Graphics and Memory Problems with Civ and BE

I recently burned through my second Nvidia display adapter over several years of Civ playing. This latest one I've had for 3 years. Maybe Nvidia undercools them, but it's inarguable that Civ's engine is very hard on it. There's a lot of heat after just an hour or so of playing. And, I...

Concerns with Storyline / Victory conditions

Okay, so here's my biggest objection with BE. Not gameplay or UI. So if you're looking for that, that's another thread. It's the storyline/VCs. So in this thread I'm going to try to get my thoughts down, starting with the Contact victory. Feel free to tell me I'm full of it or to join the...

It's a great day to be Beyond Earth

The pic's a little fuzzy; that's through the window. I wasn't even going to step out to get the shot. What you can't see is the wind blowing to get all, those trees are swaying back and forth even with all that snow on them. First snow of the year and it's a lot of accumulation. About 6 inches...

What leader/civ for your last game of civ EVER

So, with BE coming, I figure this may be the last game of BNW I ever play. Well, probably not. But there's some truth there. Anyway, I went random, and got Shaka Zulu. Should be a good "last game." :goodjob:

Korea's colors give me a headache

Blue and red? Maybe its historical, and certainly it's distinctive. But honestly I don't want to be looking at that all game. Maybe I need to turn down the gamma on my screen. I suppose throughout history leaders and royals want to have distinctive uniforms; practicality and...

Bug: Don't settle too near at game start

I started a game which was pretty crowded on an old/new world map, and when I founded my capital at game start, on turn 1, Shaka give me the demand to not settle near him. It shouldn't be triggered by me founding my capitol at game start.

Can't clear select city production prompt

Situation: at war with pedro, conquer capitol, get a city in peace agreement, annex it, in your notification/actions queue (right side of the screen) you get a hammer/city select production notice. Immediately sell the city back to pedro for all his gpt. Bug: the select production notice...

    Playing the Villain?

Is there anybody (besides me) who doesn't really enjoy playing the villain all that much? Gameplay aside, I find myself reluctant to play as Monty, Darius, Attila, Wu Zetian, etc. Leaders or civs who, in my mind, are quite simply the "bad guys." I know it's entirely psychological; I guess I...

    Two Religions in One City

I remember someone asking about this could happen in an old thread, and it just happened to me, and here's how... The Celts had founded a religion, and were in a losing war against Rome. They had a second GP dorking around their capital's tiles, not doing anything, just moving around. Rome...

    Can't trade for Embassy

Early in the game, you can trade an Embassy for 25gp. Later, after Commerce I think, you can't do this unless you have declared Friends (because you can only trade gp/turn with non-friends; you can't trade hard currency gp / loose change). The bug is if you have an unbalanced Embassy with a...

    Spy caught twice -> BACKSTABBED

Ok, this is wrong and hopefully will be changed. When you catch someone's spy, you get an option: "We insist that you spy on us no more." Then, if you later catch them a second time, that option doesn't show, all you have are the other options, to let it go or to denounce. If you...

Civ5 defaults to too many city states

Am I the only one who routinely decreases the # of city states (by using the advanced/custom startup option)? And, I'm not saying I nudge it downward a few... I routinely cut it down to 25% or fewer of what the default value is. For example, starting on a standard size map, with 12 civs or...

Did G&K go too far with enhancing AI settling?

The AI definitely didn't settle enough in vanilla. But with G&K it seems like it's overcompensated. Some AIs, when they get into city spam mode, just go nuts, settling everywhere, including really bad snow spots.

    UUs from Military City States

I just have to say, I love how you get WAS (weird-ass sh!t Watch your language!), aka UUs, from being allied with military city states. Makes it worthwhile.

    Worker: Road-to command

The worker will sometimes go to a sideways tile, building a jog in the road, which is just stupid. I think the worker is following the "fastest route" to the destination tile, but that's not the point... once the road is built, the direct line path will BE the fastest route. The worker should...

Is Ceremonial Burial / Djenne / Holy Order broken?

Ceremonial Burial: +1 :c5happy: for each city following your religion Djenne: Missionaries can spread 3 times Holy Order: Missionaries are 30% cheaper The main limiting factor in expansion is happiness. Cities can easily pay for themselves in terms of :c5gold: and :c5science: they provide your...

    Recon units too powerful?

This could go into the Feedback thread but to me it's a loaded topic and might spawn a lot of discussion. Here's my feeling, that I've had for a while, but I haven't tried to articulate it. Basically, the game is incredibly weighted toward Recon units, I don't know why anyone would ever do...
