Study in the Lancet states that alcohol more dangerous than heroin and other drugs

A new study in the Lancet states that alcohol is more harmful than other hardcore drugs such as heroin and crack cocaine. Marijuana and other milder drugs also scored substantially lower. The researchers studied the harm to the individual as well as the harm to others...

Israel's new innovative approach to organ donation

This is my first thread in the OT section, but I came across an interesting internet article regarding Israel planning in short to move people and their families up the organ donation line if they agree to donate their organs. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35842049/ns/health-more_health_news/...

    Recovering accidentally deleted files

I have a fairly lengthy DVD collection that takes up too much space. I plan to copy the DVD's on a fairly big external hard drive and have done a couple DVD's every day (and plan to eventually put them all in a box and store them somewhere). So, I legitimately own these DVD's and nothing...

    Question about AP and vassals

I'm learning about the nuances of the AP and would some clarification regarding a certain aspect which is important in my current game. I'm in an interesting situation: Tokugawa is the dominant power in this game and I been forced a couple time to bribe him to peace against Churchill (who owns...

Any reason that CIV allows galleys to transport settlers through your territory?

In my vague recollection of previous versions of CIV, one of the annoying features that was thankfully fixed was that the AI would no longer bring settlers through your borders to settle cities on the other side. So, why does CIV allow the AI to use a galley to transport settlers through your...

    Vassal and dogpile questions

In the current game that I'm playing (check the screenshots below), Alex is becoming a monster. He's already taken Hammy as a vassal and was about to take Wang Kon as well (but I bribed him to peace with Korea and then took Wang as a vassal). Alex has developed a habit of parking his stack in a...

Can the AI plan war against while in forced peace?

This question pops into my head from time to time, but I keep forgetting to ask it here. I was wondering if the AI can select you as it's target and go into WHEOOHRN mode during the 10 turns of forced peace (either through giving into a demand or signing a peace treaty)?

    The Mech Inf stack

I'm in the middle of a game where my opponents will have industrialism fairly soon. Both of my oil resources are offshore. I've also completed the Kremlin and I'm about to complete the Internet (which will be completed around the same time as I tech Robotics). Once all those things are in, I...

Is there an EVERYONE at war mod?

Lately I've been looking for mods to add and there's one in particular that I hope exists. I'm looking for a mod where all civilizations are at war with everyone else for the entire length of the game (in other words AW for everyone). I would appreciate any info anyone can give to me. Thanks.

    Game for aspiring Emperor players

The game below is for anyone who has just moved up to Emperor or who is having trouble beating that level. I rolled this game the other night intending to just try to get a feel of how quickly Emperor AI’s expand and tech without actually going much past 1AD. After this start came popped up, I...

    Questions about drafting

So, I read the drafting guide in the war academy and I have to admit that I don't feel that I can conceptualize well enough the impact of drafting. For those interested the link is just below: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/strategy/drafting.php I play on Monarch, although I usually win...

Mechanics of the AI getting out of WHEOOHRN

I think that most of us understand the factors that play a role in the AI going into WHEOOHRN mode, but I was curious of the mechanics that determine the AI getting out of WHEOOHRN. How much influence do we have in them getting out of it.

    No interface for scenarios only

I'm playing CIV BTS using the 3.19 patch (although my problem was present with the other patch as well), the latest BUG, and with Blue Marble. Anyway, the regular game runs fine, but when I try to play a scenario like MesoAmerica or Defense, there is no interface whatsoever. It's not a huge...

    Question about the AI begging

I've often had the scenario where 2 pleased or better allies go to war and you don't really want to get involved. Normally, I beg for some nominal amount of gold, knowing that it will buy at least 10 turns of not being requested to join 1 side or the other. However, that does not prevent them...

    Need for Better Tech trading

I think that one of the things that need to be tweaked is that you should be able to trade techs along the same tech path in one trade. Say for example, another civ had Military Science (cost: 2000) and you had Paper (cost: 600) and Education (cost: 1800), you wouldn't be able to swing a deal...

Ability to warn an ally of an impending invasion

Sometimes I play with permanent alliances on and one of the things I would add is the ability to tell your ally I'm going to attack Civ X soon, so make sure that you're ready. Too often, my ally is either unable to lend any type of assistance or has his cities woefully inadequately defended...

    Spiritual suggestion

In terms of the other 9 traits, the Spiritual trait is probably by far the weakest. My suggestion to try to beef it up a bit by doing something like double the research rate of techs associated with a religion and the ability to make missionaries without a monastery.

should there be maintenance for roads?

Maybe there should be a maintenance depending on the amount of roads/railroads. It would reflect reality and make the map look better. What do you guys think?
