Tips from players who already won on high difficulties?

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is you can pay gold to instantly heal your troops if they are in your territory. So if you can use the advice above about positioning your troops in your land in a good spot to catch their incoming army, keep your guys alive, instantly heal your entire army...

    Dom victory/War support

One key thing it to have demands before starting a war. Cities seem to cost about 80 while territories are around 40. But these can drop to just 10 if demanded before the war starts. If you can pile up a bunch of demands before starting a war I've had the AI just give in on a few territories to...

I don’t want to play with him anymore

I honestly thought excluding some leaders was part of the game setup, I just always have YnAMP turned on I guess.

    The Silent Majority speaks

I often play with 2 or three others in multi-player games. We The People has proven to be the most captivating out of all available Civ games for multi-player.

    Tile Acquisition via Culture

Forests seem to decrease the odds of getting expanded to.

    [Vanilla] Skip turn

I still see this problem happening often. The only dangerous thing is if you hit fortify and then the next turn forget to wake up the unit.

On starting games in later eras

Another strange feature of starting a game in a later era is your cities get bonus tiles upon founding. I have found this bonus actually keeps increasing with each additional city founded until you are getting six hexes in every direction. If you focus hard on putting out settlers you can have a...

[GS] I wish Military Engineers didn’t suck...

The railroads drastically reduce the movement cost of you tiles and you can build them in whatever route you want. If you follow where your traders are going there is a big increase in their gold on their trade routes. Your first two cities you connect also gets you some era score. The downside...

[GS] Canals, Railroads, and Trade Routes

I'm not sure on the exact numbers but trade routes that run along along railroads are worth way more.

    [GS] Maori Land Start

Thank you for figuring that out. In the end my land start is going crazy well. I'll turn off the mod for my next game.

    [GS] Maori Land Start

Interesting. I didn't try a new start as my game was going to good to stop. I'll have to try a few more and see if all mine are land as well.

    [GS] Maori Land Start

So I fired up a game today to try out the Maori now that I've tried out a few of the other mechanics with other civs. I was very surprised to start on land instead of in the ocean. I was one tile away from the coast. I could have left but starting on the edge of a jungle full of resources was...

    [GS] Co2

The units and railroads must contribute a lot. I only ran a coal plant for a very short time before getting all of my power from renewable sources. But I had a lot of railroads and my CO2 was quickly above a thousand, now the coastal flooding has gotten intense. As a side note putting the...

    100th Anniversary Achievement

A lot of the earth maps have both features and they are conveniently close for the american start.

Unit glitch that still bothers me.

This problem comes up whenever a all spaces adjacent a unit cost more movement than the unit has. For instance a warrior with all jungle hills beside it. The game doesn't seem to know you can always move at least one square regardless of the terrain cost and so it just skips the unit.

    Natural Park stupidity

I've played games where I'm going for culture wins that result in huge city areas. If there is a mountain range nearby I can often fit a couple parks thanks to fourth and fifth ring tiles.

    Spaceports in multiple cities?

With R&F I now only do one. I can usually finish a part in ~4 turns (Royal Society for the win!) so science is my bottleneck now.

About 2 Emergency at the same time.

In my current game I also had an emergency declared against me while wiping out a civ (Arabia) and they were the only participant. I left them with one city and it lost loyalty until it became a free city. At that point I won the emergency. I suspect if you wipe out England you'll win that...

    [R&F] Close Starts and Loyalty

I'm working my way back up in difficulty with R&F and had my first emperor game. Of course I had two civs (France and Poland) start right beside me and settle right beside my capitol. O thought I would stick it out and see how the loyalty would work out. It took a couple ages until conditions...

    Need help/tips for science please

I had a fun game as Alexander where I just focused on my army which let me take out Persia. This gave me all their holy sites which got me a religion. When I was falling behind in culture I took over Greece to take all their districts. That just left me behind in science which meant Nubia was up...
