Building cities on resources - when you get a bonus.

It's generally a bad idea to found cities directly on a resource, since you will lose the benefits you get from building the improvement on it. But sometimes you have to do it to gain a resource elsewhere and I believe that it's sometimes preferrable. This guide will show when you get a bonus...

    Has anyone beaten Deity yet?

On real settings, that is. Duel or tiny maps don't count. If you have, please post your settings and your general strategy. I'm very curious, because I've had no luck at all.

Does the AI cheat in combat on higher levels?

The reason I ask is that I've been losing consistently with good odds. I lose about 50-60% of the battles when I have slightly better odds when it's really supposed to be 60-65% in my favor. And yes, I do take first strikes into account. So, does it cheat or am I just really, really unlucky?

    Parthenon worse than you'd think.

I've played a couple of OCC games recently and found that GP strategy is really efficient. In one game I built the Parthenon (more GP is always good, right?). Huge mistake. Every two or three great people turned out to be an Artist from then on, despite having some 5-10 people as scientists. I'm...

Reducing effects of attrition in combat.

I've been bothered quite a bit by how effective sheer numbers are against superior units. The best way I can think of how to tune it down is to change how power is reduced when you lose hit points. I was thinking of something along the lines of 50%+current hp/(2*max hp). I don't know how to do...

    Making leaders vastly different

I just saw the project to convert Civ IV to SMAC, which reminded me of the thing I loved the most about SMAC. The different playstyles of all factions. Depending on your faction you had to go about the game in very different ways. Does anyone have any good ideas or plans to do something like...

    Limited effect from resources

Is it possible to in some way limit the effects you get from a resource? Like for instance cows can only increase health in 5 cities each or you could only have 20 units requiring iron per iron source. I'm guessing not, since I don't see how, but I'm new to modding. Maybe you have some ingenious...
