    LK147 - world map, China

Congrats guys. There LK world map games used to be a lot of fun to follow in the past and this was no exception. Can't wait for more!

    [vanilla] Do you build walls?

I guess you've never played an always war game in Civ3. There walls could really be a life saver on the higher difficulty levels. But yeah, in most cases walls are pretty pointless in Civ5 like they were in Civ4 as well.

Gripe 1: Skipping the Starting Film

Step 1: write your questions into this thread. Step 2: edit UserSettings.ini under (My) "Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5" and change "SkipIntroVideo = 0" to "SkipIntroVideo = 1"

    Riflemen around turn 120 (immortal)

Just remember that even though you don't need iron to build rifles, you do need it in order to upgrade your puny warriors into them. This isn't like the good old times when you can upgrade straight to the best available unit in the upgrade tree but instead have to go one step at a time, i.e...

    Rat's AW goes emperor Pangaea

Horsemen are powerful indeed but do you not lose them against the Persian Immortals (super-spearmen)? Chokes like that are great fun. I played a OCC game where one civ conquered everybody and eventually attacked me as well. Even though I only had a total of six units to defend with, I could...

    Quick Questions and Answers

I haven't been reading the forums much but I keep seeing the term 'ICS' mentioned occasionally. What is it short for? Edit: nevermind, I found the answer. Infinite city sprawl.

First attempt in AW games - Rat's warmongering

Great read. I tried a similar game but quickly met 4 civs and had no horses or iron anywhere near my towns. Trying to capture cities with only spears is quite costly.

    New Succession Game

That sounds like a very interesting game indeed. I first thought that a scientific civ might be better for the culture expansions as libraries are actually useful unlike temples. However, you'll probably be dead way before you can even build a single library in a game like this so temples are a...

    New Succession Game

Yay! Nice work everybody. I normally mod a couple of things for my solo games - remove the pollution caused by factories as well as remove the chance of some resource changing places (e.g. iron jumps from your territory to your enemy's). Clearing pollution is just too tedious and the resource...

    New Succession Game

Talking about shipchaining - I never ever do that in my solo games. I don't consider it a cheat or anything but it's just something I've never felt comfortable with. I remember trying it out many years ago and it works (obviously) but for some reason I always stick with the normal boat movement...

    New Succession Game

That is correct. The AI doesn't apparently know this though so using slaves is just as effective as infantry for that purpose. Whether someone thinks it's cheap to "exploit" this AI flaw is up to them. I don't personally mind it one bit.

    New Succession Game

They will come in numbers soon though so be sure to get our boats back to our shores in order to bring in reinforcements. I would raze at least all the towns in the vicinity of our beachhead town. If we want to go for domination we can later replace those easily with all the settlers we...

    New Succession Game

I wouldn't make peace with them unless absolutely necessary. If we sail straight west and found a town there (after razing that one Arab town), the Persian borders will be really close. Send the armies there and raze everything while dealing with the enemy troops with artillery/cav. We are at a...

    New Succession Game

15 galleons only have space for 60 guys. I think we have something like 90 (plus extra settlers and workers) that we could ship overseas but 60 is plenty too. It only takes 4 turns for the boats to bring in reinforcements later. Be sure to load the 4th cavs in the armies but only after they've...

Thanks. It makes sense but I wanted to be sure.

    New Succession Game

Most of our units are fortified next to our capital in various stacks (armies, artillery, elite units, cavs, inf, settlers). We now have 15 galleons plus some frigates in Leiden. Some more will reach it in a couple of turns. The invasion of the other continent can then begin. Be sure to load...

    New Succession Game

What now? We'll of course want to invade the other continent but using which route? I think about this for quite some time. I eventually decide it's best to use our westernmost tip as the starting point and sail west. It takes two turns to reach the Arabian shores. Our boats are nowhere near...

    New Succession Game

I only played 3 turns today but the Dutch are now eliminated. I'll continue tomorrow and prepare our mighty civilization for the invasion of the other continent. Edit: turnlog for the first three turns: Preturn: There's a couple of artillery that haven't fired yet so use them to bombard a...

    New Succession Game

Okay. I'll continue researching and we'll win the game somehow some day. I've never seen much point in gifting the AI techs unless I'm way ahead (like almost a full age) of everyone else but what's done is done.

    New Succession Game

TheOverseer714's question is the real one we should be focusing on. Can we win until the AI gets infantry to defend their cities? Cavalry units are struggling even against rifles. I think we should decide on three things before I play my turns: 1. are we going for domination or conquest...
