Is anyone here? Arathorn, do you want to carry this on with just us two?

Tech victory: why would I ever do this?

Diplo victory is too easy. I much prefer to play on to the tech victory which feels like a real victory and is a much more satisfying conclusion to the game. If you can't resist turning your potential tech victories into easy diplo victories, maybe you should play with diplo victory disabled?

    City center yield not added

I got the same issue in my current game. I got a number of cities in a peace treaty, razed all but one, and the one that I kept never got anything from the city square. Eventually I razed it and settled my own city on the same tile.

Hit "Reset Tiles" and turn off "Manual Specialist Control" and it seems to fix things.

    LotR29 Odd Aztecs

Played 14 turns (to finish at turn 175). At the start of my turns I found everybody was willing to make peace except for India, so I made peace with everyone except India and Iroquois. After I hit the next turn button Hiawatha came to offer all his money and luxuries for peace. We, being...

If nobody else can manage to play, I'm going to pick this up tomorrow (Monday).

    This is just unfair

If the AI is forced to immediately delete captured workers, but the player is able to keep them and use them, it seems to me like the player is getting the unfair advantage, not the AI.

    Should the AI...

All of the first three. At higher difficulty levels the AI should be biased towards trying to win, at lower levels more just trying to survive. And regardless, all AI actions should be believable as RP choices.

    Civilization is hitting the bottom!

If you take off your USA-centric glasses, I don't think a game about the most popular sport in the world could possibly be described as a "limited market".

What are you playing until the next patch?

I would be playing Civ5, but I'm not at home for the holidays and I don't want to try running Civ5 on my laptop, so I'm actually trying to finish Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor.

    Achievement Suggestions for ACE

If I was trying for this I would be donating lots of units to city-states and hoping for them to take over the AI capitals.

    Is Civ V for War-Gamers?

I don't think so. I'm not a wargamer, but I like Civ5. I think Civ5 appeals to me in a similar way to the SimCity series. It's not (usually) a challenge to win, but I like watching the world develop and writing the story of my empire through the game.

I completely agree. I always try to get to the march promotion as quickly as possible for melee units. FYI: I'm going to be mostly without internet for the rest of the month. If my turn comes up, I won't be able to play again before December.

The neurological basis of why Civ V is boring (and Civ IV was not)

So .. Civ4 is for short-attention-span people, Civ5 is for people with more patience? I like Civ5. I like to play Civ5 at epic speed. Obviously I didn't like Civ4 because there was just too much happening :crazyeye:

I believe he has shock promotions, which mitigate the -ve modifiers (a unit with shock III is better off defending on open terrain, if I have the numbers right). Also, I don't think he can go anywhere that isn't open terrain, and if he stays where he is at least he gets to heal (and keeps the...

    Achievement Suggestions for ACE

My suggestions: 1. Build a city with population 40+ (bonus points for pop 50+). 2. Build a city with population 20+ before turn 200 (bonus points for 25+). 3. On a large/huge map, achieve allied status with every city state.

    LotR29 Odd Aztecs

I had more details in my notes for my turns. There were things like "turn 122, kill two archers with swordsmen, archers bombard mohawks for pathetic damage". But I read back through and it was all just confusion and impossible to follow without pictures. I guess I could have gone back and...

    LotR29 Odd Aztecs

Things were going okay until the Indians arrived. We lost Hanoi, and one swordsman. The Russians looked threatening, then retreated, and now have a few swordsmen around Grand River. The Iroquois have been milling around and not attacking much. We have killed a number of enemies, mostly...

    LotR29 Odd Aztecs

We started with something of a disaster. Our jaguars on a hill, with the GG, were killed by Japanese warriors. Which means we lost the GG too. Ack! After that, everything went more or less smoothly. I hired some archers and brought them and all our three remaining jaguars to the front...
