Civ III messed up my computer

Yes, I know what the problem is-Civ 3 is the biggest pile of untested crap I have ever wasted money on...I have never been this dissatisfied with what basically is a beta version of a game, and by far the worst 'tech support' (if you can call it that) I've ever encountered...I will NOT buy...

    Civilization III Fixes (PLEASE READ)

Trust me, I've tried all those things, Skotie...to be honest, I have been appalled at how nonexistent tech support has been for this game. I bought Civ 3 the DAY it came out, and have only been able to play it running win 98. Because I refuse to let a game force me to downgrade my OS, I...

XP and CIV III version 1.16f

Yes, I went through that tech support-I received a total of one message, totally generic, telling me to do idiotically basic stuff like 'here's how to close background applications.' I've tried both with and without compatibility mode, the monitor isn't the problem, etc. You should not have to...

    Civilization III Fixes (PLEASE READ)

Good point about the EULA-unfortunately, when my copy ran fine with '98, I shredded my receipt, thinking the game would be smooth sailing. So, even though I have the disc and instructions, I doubt they'll give me a refund without a receipt...

XP and CIV III version 1.16f

That's my problem too-used to work fine in '98, upgraded to xp and didn't even get to splash screen. With patch, ran, but units all moved like molasses...3 weeks now, nothing from tech support. I will never buy another product by Firaxis or Infosux again..

    Civilization III Fixes (PLEASE READ)

this game really is a pile of crap. Shoddy programming, ridiculous compatibility issues with so many different things-this pales only to Pool of Radiance. I thought the Civ team was better than this, makes me wonder what they spent the four years doing, because it sure as hell wasn't...

    Speed, CPU, RAM

I appreciate the thread, but my slowness of the game is not dependent on any of those factors. My hardware is tweaked, and optimal. Rather, my UNITS move in slow motion ever since I installed XP...i.e. them mining, building roads, etc. is incredibly sluggish, even on a small 2 player map...

    Civilization III Fixes (PLEASE READ)

Unfortunately, it does that when I start a new game, too. It's not just one saved game-it's all of them, and new games too. The game runs fine on my friend's computer-the difference? He runs Windoze '98 and does not have a Geforce video card...

    Civilization III Fixes (PLEASE READ)

Okay, here's my problem 1)Game ran fine until I installed XP-then it wouldn't even boot up until the patch. With the patch, runs, but all the units move and animate like they're in slow motion, which makes gameplay impossible (unless you want a turn to take 30 minutes). 2)I have all updated...

    the non-existent support

I just wanted to say that is the best analogy I have heard in a long time-makes 100% sense. My question is, though, doesn't it frustrate you as a developer that the company who has paid you to distribute something you worked so hard on does not match your enthusiasm for the product? I bought...

    Civilization III Fixes (PLEASE READ)

Thanks for the suggestions! :) Unfortunately, I tried compatibility mode, and still nothing. I can either run it at like 10% speed without the patch and XP, or the game hangs without a hard lock up with the patch. It ran fine with 98, but I refuse to let shoddy programming force me into...

    Civilization III Fixes (PLEASE READ)

I skimmed through most of the posts, and didn't see this unique problem. 1)Game used to run fine for me on win 98 2)Upgraded to XP, game would play, but units animated at like 10% speed (i.e. miners moving REAAAALY slow) 3)Downloaded NEW version of patch (the 2nd one) and installed it...
