    ALC Game #23: America/Lincoln

Your diplomacy has been superb throughout the game and you deserve to win on that basis. This would not be an unwarranted win. In some respects, it would be the quintessential diplomatic victory. Take it if it's there and move on. Congrats on an Immortal victory should be forthcoming.

All Leaders Challenge Game 19: Sumer/Gilgamesh

The Aggressive AI really makes a difference IMO, especially if you're looking at a protective AI as a rival. There will be no shortage of units in the capital. As for the SOD coming at you, have some crossbows ready.

ALC Game 18 Pre-Game Thread: Playing as Isabella

Good luck on your last (?) Monarch level ALC. It would be great to see a combined arms Spanish assault led in prayer.

    Dealing w/Raging Barbarians?

I play raging barbarians often now. But, when I do, the civ chosen has Industrious and the GW is a priority build.

The Immortal Challenge 2: For the Fatherland

Gold, gems and wine are the only visible happiness resources so far. The specialist economy requires higher population caps, so it would appear that the two research priorities are metal casting for double happiness on gold and gems and Monarchy for both Wine and Hereditary Rule's military...

    ALC Game 14: Mongolia/Kublai Khan

It's a bold plan, an axe rush to acquire horses and then Keshiks towards domination. I like it! Don't forget to bring along a scout/medic. You may need one prior to getting the medic III unit.

ALC Game 14 Pre-Game Show: Playing as Kublai

Creative: The +2 culture and cheap libraries and theaters allow one to aggressively place cities and "steal" resources from a non-creative AI. It's war without the warmongering, although one can force a war with enough "close border" modifiers. Also the cheap theater and coliseum have synergy...

    ALC Game 13: Mali/Mansa Musa

Very nice game! :goodjob: I liked the way you used diplomacy/DPs in the game until you no longer needed them. The Spiritual trait was used very well. Financial lagged a little because you didn't have enough workers early to clear land and build cottages. Overall, though, very nicely done...

    ALC Game 13: Mali/Mansa Musa

As you've committed to a Space Race victory, my advice, having about the same desirability as fashion advice offered by Simon Cowell, would be to build some tanks and marines as you move to US and purchase factories and coal plants. Save the GE for the Space Elevator. Your mfg advantage will...

    ALC Game 13: Mali/Mansa Musa

You're fine for now, but I'll take the bait on Music/GA/pigs. To me it says that you didn't leverage your traits as soon as they came into focus. CoL, Currency and MC are the backbones for Mansa Musa in this part of the game. The pigs are a distraction. Civil Service would have permitted...

    ALC Game 13: Mali/Mansa Musa

Don't you just hate losing a long post? :( Pig War: It's a waste of hammers trying to fight Isabella at this time for the food resource. Seville has two religions and you're undoubtedly fighting not only temples, but also Monasteries that can be built (if not already). You could attempt...

    ALC Game 13: Mali/Mansa Musa

The advice to build more workers isn't exactly new. It's been a thread throughout the ALC. I'm really curious as to whether you build workers in off line games to the same extent as you do here. I'm in favor of Construction ASAP. Use the barbarian city to get CR promotions and set the...

    Save/load lame?

An old habit broken. I used to save and re-load when I was struggling with Noble level games. Now I just accept the battle or that someone beat me to a city site. It makes the game more interesting.

    ALC Game 13: Mali/Mansa Musa

To "block and fill" or not, that is the question. Isa will undoubtedly not expand further north, so south is likely. The tile 1N of the wheat captures the pigs, wheat and stone and has some production. Taking that will probably give you time to fill in the fish/elephant to the east. If you...

    ALC Game 13: Mali/Mansa Musa

So very nice of a start for Uncle Manny! :king: Settle in place or if you're really curious, move warrior SE first to reveal more tiles. My preference is not to look a gift horsey . . . . The rice gives you 3F and the mined grassland hill/gems gives 1F, so the opening sequence of...

ALC Game 13 Pre-Game Show: Playing as Mansa Musa

All victory conditions are open with Manny. All of them. The starting position may hold some keys though. I see a few different paths: 1. Masonry - GW - Oracle to MC if you have stone - Mints. 2. Hunting - AH (chariots) - Mathematics to Currency 3. Pottery - Math -...

    How can I change?

I'll echo Cabert, the link to The-Hawk's piece did more for my moving from Noble to Monarch than anything else. Before reading his advice, I couldn't beat Noble.

Monarch too easy, Emperor too hard?

Have you checked out the EMC threads by Aelf, who played on Emperor level? I thought the games were very instructive.

    ALC Game 12: Japan/Tokugawa

I don't underestimate the group mind, but you're definitely understating your abilities. While the group may help with overall strategy and city placements, the tactical decisions you make during the turns are your own. They've obviously worked well overall. The only part about...

    ALC Game 12: Japan/Tokugawa

I had to stop playing Mansa because he was a juggernaut. :hammer2: The combination of financial and spiritual traits gives him the ability to form a very large, tech-leading army while keeping everyone at bay early in the game with his UU. While the military applications don't always...
