If you can't get a windows program to work in wine you can use virtual box to host an actual windows installation on your linux os. The virtual box is a bit more resource hungry a solution that wine but it is simpler to configure and will definetly work (well assuming the program actually works...

Windows = messy turds. So upgrading (degrading) is pointless. Switching to linux is your best bet.

No need for a mod for that. Original civ since vanilla there is a button on the lower right hand side that hides units so that you can see what buildings are in cities including your rivals.

The patch doesn't work me for at all. Downloaded from firaxis site ran the setup.exe and it goes to the install shield screen i press the ok/install button and it all stops. I check my game build and it is still 3.17. What gives?

It is a good idea. I would only add some facility for armies to get food from a friendly city via a supply train. Especially this is important for modern eras where logistics are developed enough that modern armies usually don't need to forage at all. Supply lines also allow for new tactics...

This sounds very similar to an idea i had for leaders to be changable mid game in a similar way to civic and religion changes. I have minimal coding knowledge so i have never even tried to implement it yet.

Just today i had a little spare time and spent it fiddling with the partitions of the bow to try and make it work. Waste of time; it is still broken. i think my best chance of fixing the bow is to make the bow again from scratch... It is SO annoying these kind of partition problems it really...

Not yet. It is high on my 'to do' list but i have very little time to make units at the moment. If i get some time i will probably make some ethnic horse-archers first just to get the hang of mounted units before trying to make mounted archery units that also has a melee attack.
