Please help me with a scenario problem I'm having

I figured it out, but thanks anyway. When setting up the sights and sounds, I changed the names of the files in the folder to minutemanX. I fixed it when I deleted that, and copied the folder for musketman, but renamed the folder, only, minuteman.

Please help me with a scenario problem I'm having

I didn't like the way the game "played," so I made some modifications. One of them is that the Americans' UU is useless, so I created the Minuteman, to replace the Musketman. I'd successfully created this before, no bugs. But I put the game away for a couple of years and switched PCs. And...

    Slow, slow, sllloowwww artillery

Well, in Civ 2, if a city with a wonder was destroyed, so was the wonder. Are you destroying the cities?

    Question about Road-Building

This is mostly wrong, but a little bit right. If you're using some of your tax money for happiness, then sometimes you can make a citizen happier if you move him from an unroaded forest (say, if you need that shield to save a turn on your build) to an ocean tile or a roaded plain or...

    Slow, slow, sllloowwww artillery

I play Civ 3, and I've never ever ever seen a Wonder destroyed. And I'm 99% sure the rules say that's impossible. Yeah, you lose improvements, and that's a pain (altho if it's gonna take you more than one turn, destroying the barracks is awesome.) But at the same time, you're reducing the...

    Siege Tactic

Right, but you I believe very strongly that you should have taken the catapults with you. You have 450 shields worth of a military there. If you had gone in with 4 less units, and instead brought 6 catapults, you'd be be better off. Those 6 catapults would have taken a few HP off of the...

    Siege Tactic

Just a suggestion...you should have brought 2-3 catapults along with you. I always do now, and my ability to fight ancient wars has dramatically improved.

    Research Level Early On?

My opinion is that unless you start with a scout, you have to do the research, mostly, yourself. You won't have contact with enough civs to make the trade strategy work. Even trading with my one or two neighbors, I'm always finding a new civ in late ancient/early medieval, and finding that...

Best time era to play in?

"Best" is too vague for this question to have a common meaning for all the posters/voters. Best as in most fun? Best as in best for winning the game? Best as in most accurately reflecting the strategy of warfare in the relevant historical era? "Most fun" for me is when you have enough...

Post Short Single Player Tips Here

It's a good idea to wait 20 turns, tho, unless you're at the point of the game when you're all powerful and don't need any friends. Of course, by that point, you don't need any tips. ;) Seriously, most of the time it's a good idea to wait 20 turns. You'll be able to deal with AI civs later...

    13 rules for winning wars

This doesn't gibe with what I've read and learned about the Civil War. Lee continually tried for the climactic, annihilatory "Napoleonic Victory." But the advent and spread of the rifle made such a victory nearly impossible, because it allowed defenders to start shooting earlier, for one...

    Fortress strategy

I don't like that last statement for two reasons. First, it might be true for YOU, but other people have different styles. Second, they're good even if you are fighting offensive wars. You can build a fortress outside a well-defended city, and let your catapults/artillery wear it down. My...

re-loading and the 2 types of CIVers

I used to reload every once in a while against the "magical unit." That's the AI regular spearman on grassland or plains that survives the attacks of 3 vet. swordsmen. I'll still do that if it's worse, like a pikeman that holds off 2 vet. cavalry. That's very rare, though. (goes into...

Restarting if in a bad starting postion?

Yeah...how bad? On a "jungle" thread, I wrote that if I'm in a really junglicious area, AND I'm not industrious, I start over. One or the other is a challenge, but the two together, at my ability level, is impossible. I hate playing in the arctics, just because I find it kinda boring. Your...

Using the Save excessively to cheat?

Really? For me, there are rare occasions when I don't switch. If I don't have any luxuries, nor any happiness wonders, the luxury burden in republic can be crippling. Granted, if this ever happens, I'm either at war or about to go to war to get luxuries....

Using the Save excessively to cheat?

You know what would be a huge improvement in gameplay, maybe the biggest left at this point in the series? Have as an option a toggle switch that, when activated, would bring you to the city screen every time your city grows. That would make micromanaging easier, and avoid this problem.

Food is the most important part of the early game

Well, I finished the Babs game. I had my highest every score for a spaceship victory. (There are about 5 diplo victories higher.) Oops. Yeah, I meant Aztecs.

re-loading and the 2 types of CIVers

I reload IF AND ONLY IF I a) accidentally moved a unit to the wrong square, and that unit is important. (Early in the game, one swordsman is a big part of your army. b) I was just too lazy to reinforce a newly taken city properly and it flips. I properly reinforce it, and if it still flips...

Food is the most important part of the early game

frank...luxuries. If I'm not expansionist, and I'm not Zulu, I build a chariot early for the sole purpose of finding luxuries.

    Slow, slow, sllloowwww artillery

I just want to say that while for me, cannon completely suck, catapults are great. I like to have 2-3 of them in my invasion vanguard. Throw in 4-5 vet. swordsmen and 2-3 vet. spearmen, and you can usually take out the 2 cities it takes to get the enemy to agree to peace. The catapults take...
