    Game Randomly Shuts Down Computer

I had thought at first that my computer had been overheating, as it had done with previous games in the past. However, many times in this situation, the computer would abruptly shut down while merely warm. The event viewer has logged the last such crash while trying to play Beyond Earth as...

    Game Randomly Shuts Down Computer

Every so often, while playing Civilization Beyond Earth, my computer will suddenly shut off. No blue screen of death or frozen screen or anything, just abruptly shut off faster than if I had held down the power button. This will happen in-game. I have yet to determine what situation will cause...

    Civ V Will Not Launch...

I had the exact same problem with my copy of the game. It also took me a while to find the section where the game list even had a right-click section titled Properties. Fortunately, I found it and followed the advice here. It worked like a charm. Thank you! :D

5 Secret projects you can't live without.

Besides the ascent, my top choices are... 1. The Cloning Vats. Every time I build this project, my rise in power abruptly increases. This is even before switching to three social engineering choices that aren't mutually exclusive and no longer suffer penalties. So overpowered and creating...

BSOD for trying to install Civilization V

Alrighty. Crisis averted. I finally exchanged the second Toshiba for a newer model of the Sony VAIO. Not only did the games install with no problem, Civilization V works great. ^^

BSOD for trying to install Civilization V

Yesterday I bought a Toshiba Satellite L675D-S7052 and a copy of Civilization V. A few hours later, I tried installing Civ5 into the computer and I got the Blue Screen of Death immediately after clicking the first "I agree". I noticed this when trying to install another game, as well. Today...

    Can You Run it?

My speed is 1.8 Ghz, just enough for minimum requirements. Meanwhile, the site thinks I'm only at 1.79Ghz. Also, how does 8400M GT (what I have for a video card) compare to all those video cards listed for the minimum requirements?

    The ultimate future tech

Time travel would likely be beyond the scope of regular Civilization games and would definitely be so powerful as to be game breaking. I'm currently working on a galaxy-wide, post-singularity game that sees the construction of an effective enough time machine as a victory condition. Of...

    Tech tree discussion

Things I like: >No dead-end techs. Unless you count Future Tech and how it requires everything. I like how every tech has some use, even if the only use acknowledged by the player is leading to another tech. Things I dislike: >Only one tier-1 tech. >Advances along the two sides are so very...

What civ will you play as first?

I wish to choose a civilization that is great with research and industry. If I can't have both, I'll go with a civ that is great with research. So I suppose which civilization I choose will depend on what unique bonuses they provide.

    Mod: Beacon Spire

Alrighty. I updated most of the files here. For faction files, I merely updated the datalinks. For alpha.txt, I made various changes, mostly in the direction of what I suggested in my previous post. I also disabled the Cloning Vats and Telepathic Matrix.

    Mod: Beacon Spire

I've checked the files I uploaded, and you're right: they aren't. I'll need to include the new datalinks on the next update. I admit, I did make things expensive. Regular base facilities should generally be okay, though. The idea was to have players build a few of them first. I'm actually glad...

    Mod: Beacon Spire

That may actually be worth looking into. I can think of one project where I just may need to do that: The Cloning Vats. Too bad it'd leave Biomachinery close to bare. I could move down Nanohospitals, though. If I was to remove two projects, then the second one would be the Telepathic Matrix...

    Mod: Beacon Spire

No problem. That's good to know. ^^

    Mod: Beacon Spire

I may have to rethink the whole Secret Project production thing. One idea floating in my head is for them t be incentives for factions specializing into that part of the tech tree. I just checked and found that those facilities together do not multiply production by 1.5^4 or 5.0625, but instead...

    Mod: Beacon Spire

I don't suppose we could make it impossible to disband units... And I tried seeing if the mineral salvage of disbanded units was connected in any way to the retool penalty percentage... It isn't. Unless the AI employs this tactic (I'd be very surprised if they do), this could be a major problem...

    Mod: Beacon Spire

I did it for a few reasons. 1: I wanted Wealth to have considerable contrast to both Knowledge and Eudaimonic. This meant replacing its Economy bonus with a Probe Bonus while Eudaimonic's Industry bonus faded away. (This was back when those choices had Morale penalties.) 2: I had it where...

    Mod: Beacon Spire

Hi, everyone. Since 2008, I've been working on a rearrangement mod to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri that I decided to call Beacon Spire. It's basically a collection of alterations made in an attempt to enhance gameplay. This mod is intended for vanilla SMAC. You do not need Alien Crossfire to...

Comment by 'Anon Zytose' in media 'SOTD33: Madrid Size 68'

Well, the amounts of happiness and health and income seem sound. However, there is one thing for which I would much like an explanation: How did the city gain access to 136 food per turn? Counting everything in the city radius, the food available totaled to 67, plus I suppose one more from the...
