Introduction
This thread begins with a description of an approach I've been developing for a Sid level HOF game.
When I make significant progress in a game or refine my approach further and start over, I'll post additional notes on this thread.
Note that this will not be a general...
Background:
o There is a lot of discussion about this in other current threads - it is time for a thread dedicated to the subject I think.
o It seems that Firaxis is interested in what the community thinks about the corruption model.
o Most of the current posts on this subject were...
Description
When I reassigned a citizen to increase total production by one shield, waste increased by TWO shields.
I.e., I get better net production in this town if I reduce gross production. That should of course be impossible :)

I've been exploring Conquests for a couple of days now. I may be getting some things wrong and may change my mind later but, FWIW, here are my initial thoughts.
I've played just one full game so far. Didn't quite finish it, played until I had clear control and then stopped. It was an Emperor...
Aeson's comment "It will be interesting to see what percent of max turn score you can squeeze out" got me thinking. The game score as a percent of max turn score seems a very interesting metric for HOF games. I wondered what other metrics might be used along with it.
I don't know if the...
In this game I am trying to use the Palace/rank bug to get as high a score as I can. This bug can be exploited by placing very few cities near one's Palace. This results in a large area centered on the Forbidden Palace which has low corruption. (For a detailed description of this exploit click...

Introduction
Leaders appear infrequently but can have a very large impact on the game. They have the unique abilities to rush wonders and to create armies.

(Edit) This thread contains two spreadsheets which can be used to calculate/project a 20K culture victory. This first post contains a spreadsheet I wrote. In the 5th post AlanH has posted a zip file containing a spreadsheet started by Greebley and then much enhanced by AlanH. You might prefer...
This thread's purpose is to find out whether people are interested in playing a reprise of GOTM19 starting from where I was in GOTM19 at 30BC.
Suggestions on how this should be structured are welcome. If there's enough interest in this then I'll consolidate suggestions and start a new thread...
It is possible at this point (in 410BC) to negotiate the following deals for peace at no monetary cost:
Rome - by giving them Monotheism, or Monarchy, or Engineering
Iroquois - by giving them Monarchy or Engineering
China - same as Iroquois
India - same as Iroquois
Aztecs - by giving them...
Score calculation
The scoring works by averaging your per-turn scores throughout the game. For each turn a (hidden) per-turn score is calculated as:
(Territory + HappyCitizens*2 + ContentCitizens + Specialists) * Difficulty
The total of all your per-turn scores is divided by the number...
Here's a calculator I wrote which can be used to:
1) Get the number of turns played so far and still to be played from a given date.
2) Get the date which is at a specified number of turns after/before a given date.
3) Estimate a game's score given some very big assumptions (i.e. that...
My understanding is that we'll be playing GOTM#5 as America, with the 1.17 game patch.
So I thought a note about what to expect with the 1.17 changes might be useful for people who haven't played with 1.17 yet, and haven't been following the general discussions forum.
I'm sure I haven't...
I am hoping that someone (Dan? :)) can answer a question about the Domination victory condition: Is it intentional that this victory condition is very difficult to predict?
To my mind, there are two things about this victory condition which when combined can make it a game-wrecker at times. I...
I'm combining two issues about 1.17 in this note.
The gruesome details follow. First a summary:
1) I've succeeded in pop rushing with 1.17. It is a lot more tedious to set up and to run, and takes a bit longer to get rolling.
2) The aggregate AI research rate seems to be significantly...
While exploring the 1.17 changes I've encountered a nasty bug. In the first 30 turns or so of the game, I have "met" two other Civs who are halfway around the world! What has happened, twice so far, is that on the AI's turn I see a unit move which is in a remote part of the world. Then that Civ...
(This is a continuation of a subject started in the Civ3 High Score HOF Opens thread which didn't belong there.)
Last message from other thread, Grey Fox said:
I pop rushed in this game from the beginning. I put a city beside each each wheat or cattle tile I found, seven of them before the...
