Which tabletop games do or did you play? (if any)

It's subtle, and not necessarily deliberate, but in a game-imitates-life kind of way. Like, there's one hex that's a housing project. It gives you a one-time infusion of population (victory points) but nobody wants to live next to it. It drags down the value of any other residential areas...

Which tabletop games do or did you play? (if any)

I play a lot of games (regular local group, plus I've been to a couple game cons) so I'll focus more on stuff I didn't see above: -Suburbia: I just got this, and I'm really happy about it. You basically build a suburb, which sounds kinda dry, but there's a lot of strategy involved, and there's...

Random Rants LIV: I Took An Arrow In The Knee

Whelp, I could have plausibly killed a couple people a few minutes ago, just going about my night. Stupid bicyclists riding in the dark... along a federal highway... with no reflective gear whatsoever.

Virtual rape hits GTA, usual lot outraged

Well, murder scenes tend to be pretty quick. Rape scenes can be longer. Usually they cut away, but sometimes they don't, and those are uncomfortable as hell to watch. The same could be said for a drawn-out murder (i.e., torture to death scene), but there rarely is a need for that sort of thing.

    IS

Timsup2nothin, I think we're on the same page. The thing that I find frustrating is that people tend to just shrug when a crazy person does something crazy, as if there's no rationale behind it. Most crazy people are actually mostly sane; they just have some weird beliefs that lead to weird...

    Do you like mushrooms?

I like to them in dishes sometimes, but I have to not think about what they are.

    IS

I think it is a mistake to dismiss them as 'particularly mad', by which I assume you mean 'crazy'. Even crazy people have they're own logic and it's usually pretty sane. In this case, I feel like they know exactly what they're doing: They want us to go back into Iraq and are baiting us in the...

Most crucial US/West 'dumbing-down' tv program?

I had always categorized that mentally as more of a physical game show than a reality show. Survivor is the first reality show that I can recall. The first round of shows were actually pretty interesting (my favorite I think was The Mole) but the genre has steadily deteriorated to basically...

The Golden Age of TV? And all Cable?

Same here. Breaking Bad was the first series since probably the early 2000s when Battlestar Galactica was airing that I'd watched new (and even then only the last season). I've been watching stuff, just the highlights from the previous decade.

What will you have (to drink)?

Mostly craft beers (ales, stouts), scotch, stuff with rum in it. I'll have a margarita if I can get a good one.

Male, you must pee sitting down. We're watching you!

Random historical anecdote: When I was reading old copies of the Atlanta Journal--or Constitution... this is from before they merged--I came across an interesting blurb about a politician (I think this guy) who, due to the peculiar county system Georgia had at the time, became governor while...

    Who lifts?

I guess so. I've gotten into the habit of doing a bunch of weight exercises at the gym on base. I was running more, especially when it was nicer out, but my leg joints have always been kind of and I'm a pretty big guy, so I've been lifting weights more. I haven't used any particularly heavy...

What languages do you speak/are you learning?

English (native - mostly General American with a few Southern touches) French (somewhat fluent - I can read much better than I can speak/hear. Many of the filler words like although and yet still give me trouble but I can usually fudge it by context) Spanish (basic stuff)
