NOTW XXXIX: Impending Retribution Game Thread

I had the Decryption Key, and have always had it until I gave it to CCRunner, because I was the one who designed it. Now I have heard of three people that need the decryption key: Earthling, Nictel, and CCRunner. Could three innocent sailors all really need the same item? I am quite suspicious that this ins’t the case and that one of them is in fact lying. I currently find Earthling the most suspicious out of all of them because I know for a fact he has been lying about the decryption key, so I will go ahead and say I plan on putting you in the brig tomorrow if possible.

Also, does anyone need access to the magazine tonight? It looks like it could use some repairing, and I can give someone access to it if they need to do so.

I'll be sure to send someone your way, hon. If you know what I mean. ;)

Earthling, I do know that the switch of decryption key for rifle took place between Frozen and CCRunner when they each said it did. Beyond that, I ain't got a clue. I think you're wrong about the keys in general, though (or is it just roleplay?). I know of too many of them, and they ain't all stolen.

The overwhelming evidence does point towards Darth Caesar.

I think that Winston Hughes should get the photo, since I think it was his already, the crate can again go to Methos and the Navigation override should go to someone who is important, so I will say that Duke Blackstone

Winston's dead, sweetie. I know it's a shock. You might want to have a lie-down if you can be let off your duties a moment.

robbiecon can have the photograph. I haven't received confirmation from anyone of receiving the bounty of the crates from Methos, so I'm going to say we should let Earthling have a turn distributing crate items.

Earthling, rather.

“He’s a murderer!”
“Kill him!”
“You’re gonna pay, Rogue!”

Were just some of the slurs thrown Darth Caesar’s way. The midday bandwagon that condemned the man continued until its end and the masses would have their corpse. Stoically, the soon-to-be deceased was marched outside and fitted with the noose. Having used the device twice before and had come up empty both times, between the evidence against him and the old ‘third time’s a charm’ logic, the crew was upbeat they’d finally nailed a Rogue. The boisterous mob surrounded Darth Caesar, and Methos asked him if he had anything he’d like to say despite being silent for the whole day. Turning his head to the left to meet his gaze he said one thing, though he wasn’t exactly sure if it would help him out of this predicament. Still though, he was going to try.

“Nictel Ekolite Autolycus Seon Methos?”

The crowd shrugged. Seriously, the guy was going to die and that’s all he could come up with? Providing Darth Caesar was innocent, no wonder the crew had yet to catch a Rogue – there was no decent discussion going on. The silent types didn’t exactly help either and his last statement was proof of concept. If the crew had any chance going forward, they’d have to start talking. Still though, they didn’t have total confirmation yet on Darth Caesar’s affiliations, so once a nice wave swell tipped his balance he plunged downward, his neck snapping audibly. Some crew members were sent below decks to rummage through his belongings, and they found something interesting.

One sailor had in his hand a key titled Nuclear Launch Key “B”. Another sailor came forth with a Container of sorts. But the key perked everyone’s interest. Why did he have something so dangerous in his possession? It was widely known that the Nuclear Launch Key’s were split up so that one maniac couldn’t decide to launch the apocalyptic payload on his own. Usually the Captain held one, but since one wasn’t found on his body it was concluded that the late Captain had trusted Darth Caesar enough to give him his key for safekeeping. Therefore, it was safe to conclude that

Spoiler :
Darth Caesar was innocent.

So close, yet so far. The crew, disappointed at the outcome decided to finish divvying up the items that had been voted on. Robbiecon took possession of both the Photograph and Navigation Override Card while Methos once again took the Crate despite serious opposition from Earthling and Renata.

With the sun casting an eerie glow as it set, the crew headed below deck to bed for the night. Given the way the day had played out, there was no question tomorrow would be an even bigger day. A major decision would have to be made regarding the ship’s course and was something that couldn’t be taken lightly. Adding that to the prospect of more death and destruction made for a very restless night. Fortunately for me, I managed to get hold of a bottle of Irish whiskey to knock me out for the night. If only I could find some ice and a nice rocks glass… Until tomorrow.

End Night Phase Six, Start Morning Phase Seven

Journal Entry Number Nineteen. 06:00 shipboard time. Six Days to Port.

The day started with a bang.

Literally.

We were brutally awakened by a large explosion in the Sleeping Quarters, which was strange since the compartment itself looked more repaired than yesterday. If you could ignore the blood and body parts everywhere, the compartment seemed to be in much better shape. After doing a quick head count, they found Nictel’s detached from the rest of his body. Putting two and two together, it would seem Nictel had been in very close proximity to an Explosive Charge of some sort and was likely deliberately targeted. His belongings were checked out and aside from a few items of interest,

Spoiler :
Nictel was innocent.

Found among his things were a Key to the Engine Room and the Nuclear Reactor Control Override Codes. The items would be voted on during the day.

With Nictel dead, the crew headed into the Galley for some chow and were horrified to see the compartment had taken some damage during the night. It wasn’t too severe, but it was evident the Saboteurs were still at work. As people discussed yesterday’s execution and the events today thus far, they realized Secura was missing from the conversation. A team was sent to find her, only to return later with the grim news.

She was found in the Machine Room on the floor, dead from three well-placed bullet holes in her body. A Portable Compressed Air Rig, Key to the Machine Room, and a hunk of Reinforced Steel were found on her person and would be voted on today. Aside from the two things, there was nothing to suggest she was apart of any illicit activities.

Spoiler :
Secura was innocent.

Upon reaching the Deck, the crew noticed some sections had been repaired while others had been damaged during the night. The net result was a small amount of repair. Missing on the deck was the crate that had greeted them each morning. After four mornings of having one, it was odd to not see a shipment from Command. Elsewhere, the Brig, Hangar, and Magazine all were repaired during the night. At the rate the repairs were being carried out, it wouldn’t be long until the ship was back to 100%.

However, the crew had a dilemma on their hands. The ship was coming up on a small island and had two routes it could take. The first route sent the ship through a minefield set up by the insurgents. It’s highly likely the ship would hit one, if not more mines during the trek, but the benefits included shaving a day off of their travel time. The other route was by far the safer route where no mines were hidden, except it had the nasty side effect of adding two days to the time of travel. The crew would have to make a judgment call on which course of action was better.

Collected in the Galley were the numerous items up for vote today. We had Darth Caesar’s Nuclear Launch Key “B” and Container, Nictel’s Nuclear Reactor Control Override Codes and Key to the Engine Room, and Secura’s Portable Compressed Air Rig, Key to the Machine Room, and Reinforced Steel.

Lastly there were two promotions to report. First, CWO, 2 Zack had been promoted to Niklas’ Lieutenant Junior Grade position with Niklas taking Zack’s place at CWO, 2. Also we had CPO Izipo promoted to CWO, 5, with robbiecon demoted to CPO.

Okay, well, here we go since apparently something didn't quite get through last time:

I am the late Captain Whitower's son, and Operations Specialist aboard this ship. I can repair the ship, I have completely unrestricted access to every compartment, and, when holding both the Decryption Key and the Nuclear Reactor Override Codes, I can hack the engines to the point that we return home much sooner. How much sooner is not specified exactly, only that if it happened day one it would have been three days and that the time period is decreasing the longer we travel. I'd guess two days right now.

Thanks to Frozen in Ice, I am now in possession of the Decryption Key. Renata has known about this for quite some time, as has Methos, Frozen in Ice, and a few others. Nictel is the only person I told about the whole son thing, a few days ago. So, I'd like to appeal to the crew once again--whoever has the codes should contact me immediately.

Slash those are my codes, and I want them.

Hmm, the Kraken didn't eat CCRunner last night, he'll have to go today. I'm not happy with what we know about rhawn but people have claimed a bit of other evidence that means we might ought to give him a chance and see why the mistake about Darth Caesar occured.

sprig, it seems you or whoever you gave your bomb(s) to vig-killed Nictel entirely pointlessly, so let's hear an explanation on that.

Long way around probably has to be it for now because Sonar is not repaired and there's no evidence it can be soon; some rogue or saboteur is holding onto whatever we need. I'll take the Engine Room and Machine room keys to give back to folks who should have them, otherwise awaiting cases for items.

Full steem ahead!. We've been making progress every day on the repairs at a fairly fast rate. I think we can take the hit from a mine or two and still successfully limp into port. I'm more concerned about the possibility of the rogues overpowering us, and giving them less time seems to be wise.

Rhawn, I'd like your explanation for what happened yesterday. Does anyone know what the container, steel, or compressed air rig is for? I, Autolycus will take the launch codes, as they fit in well with my other duties. I found a repair-boosting item last night, so if someone who can repair can contact me, preferably with others vouching for them, I'll pass it on.

Earthling, the explosive charges belong to the Saboturs. I doubt Nictel was killed pointlessly, it seems he was killed deliberately because he has the Nuclear reactor control cards at an educated guess. The Explosive charge that I disarmed still exists. Coincidently I have already asked for proof that the charge still exists.

Also I told you guys that we should get the sonar repaired. I think we should take the long way. Perhaps CCRunner can make up the time lost... In any case I think we should give the key to Renata as she is probably the best informed.

I think the possible reasons for Rhawns mistake should be told to the rest of us.

Also I, Sprig, wouldn't mind looking at the container.

Rhawn is not going to be executed today unless several others are taken care of, and that seems unlikely, so don't vote for him, you're wasting your votes and encouraging the wrong bandwagon. There's scans/similar evidence to his Innocence, what's unexplained is why he got the wrong result on Darth Caesar, but he's not the priority.

And I agree Renata could take those codes for now, but sprig, it's rather possible CCRunner is likely behind the murder or Nictel. At any rate he's pretending like he didn't notice. For those who didn't realize, Nictel had exactly the same ability as CCRunner claims - as in, Nictel was the Innocent person who was able to repair/maintain the nuclear reactor. Sounds like CCRunner stole Nictel ability claim whenever he talked to him. It makes no sense that CCRunner in good faith aimed to steal items that several other Innocents need for a redundant ability.

I don't think that's necessarily a tried and true heuristic, it's better to not vote at all than vote for terrible reasons or out of entire ignorance. To quote a late laconic philosopher, “Nictel Ekolite Autolycus Seon Methos”

I think I've changed my mind to the shortcut though. It is possible looking at the numbers add up that we could mostly "out-repair" any damage. Sprig I think you are still ignoring that Sonar apparently needs missing items to be repaired and I don't know who you even are intending to blame, but even without it, let's go for the shortcut, since I'd say we're in terrible danger from the rogue threat more time perhaps isn't worth it.

Oh, wow, so may things happening, so little time to think about it.

Let me start by saying that running in a minefield is a crazy idea, with or without sonar, we'll be very happy to have cut a day of travel when we're all at the bottom of the sea. So I think we should take the long way around (unless the sonar can be repaired, but still, it makes me very nervous).

As a second point, I (Izipo), would like to have the steel. I'm pretty sure I could put it to good use.

And finally, I agree that CCrunner should get some heat.

That is all for now.

The steel can be used to make any compartment impervious. I'll vote and share some more info in a few hours.

Renata can have the nuclear override codes for now. As I promised yesterday I suspect Earthling of being up to no good. Rhawn deserves some attention as well, but it looks like others are already on top of that.

I'm sure that saboteurs would love to go through an effing minefield!! Why would we want to do that? We can barely repair the ship as is! Long way around.

I'm really tempted to go through. Even with the loss of Nictel we have a pretty decent handle on the repairs for now and I've set up mechanisms to maintain that in the event of my death. If it's no worse than the missiles it should be able to be handled, though the explosives give me some pause.

Rogues will want to go around, if you want to talk about who benefits. The longer they have us out here, the longer they have to kill us all.

The decision seems pretty obvious to me. I mean, I'm sure this is precisely what our Sonar system is designed for, so with it still offline, I'd assume the damage would be pretty catastrophic.

I'd also like an explanation from rhawn.
