SGOTM 13 - Plastic Ducks

:(:undecide:

What happen!!

You need to pay more attention to the thread madviking - this isn`t how we proceed.

Taking a look at the save.

EDIT: can`t load the save on my laptop for some reason. I could load SGOTM12 saves but this one isn`t working right now with the correct BUFFY.

Oh, well, that's a bitter result.:( We probably lost a few turns this way.

As long as we don't lose Oracle, we can still recover! Hope we could get some luck in the other aspects.:)

Cities situation :
Spoiler :

--> Can be whipped this turn.

--> I think it's best to whip in 2 turns.

Extra knowledge of the fur island :
Spoiler :

Units :
- Galley + worker loaded are 2W1S of Paris. 2 moves available.
- Workboat 1NE of Orleans. 0 move available.

Diplo :
Willem and Ragnar are annoyed at each other.

@ the save :
Do you want to know something in particular, Kossin ?

looking at the cities doesnt make me feel less unhappy... ...sight... ...the lib in marble, no oracle started and overall, no whipping:sad:

...

we have to look at the bright site... ...there is some roome to improve. lets hope the best for the oracle. if we miss it, we can at least show the other teams whats possible without it.

...

@ madviking:
it would be interesting to here why happened what happened and if we can count on you in further turnsets:). you have to read, write and share a bit more here with us in the thread (im not mad at you, its a game after all... ...and i guess the rest of the team shares my view, right:goodjob:)

beeing a noob isnt bad, simply ask if you have questions and/or problems with a plan/spreadsheet or whatever you want to know. everybody will be glad to help and answer your question

I like this declaration! The most important thing of playing a SG is to have a platform to chat and share, result is a good dressing but not important. Looking at the bright site should make you feel better, let's go from what we are now.:)

here we go:

1. we need a sim for the current turn. we need to do a bit of testing for the oracle.
2. we have bronze:goodjob:... ...so we have to weight plugging a city down onto it (to remove the jungle) vs. settling near it and get rid of the jungel manually after iw (im undecided myself on this. need the testgame and some testing to voice any opinion on this
3. no more open questions about our oracle pick:). construction is set in stone now i guess. we will be able to do enough teching with the glh so im not worried about picking currency. opinions about that?
4. we have to weight if we ship the next settler right away towards copper or if we wait for the settler after it

...

about the new testgame:
- cathys island should be in it, so we can test the sailing there.
- same goes for the copper island

...

i will do some sims asap, when the tesgame is online (cant do it myself, cause of the still lingering notbeingable(willing)toinstallthehofmod thingy)

Agreed, last set wasn't tremendously wrong...
It just wasn't concerted and a bit off the line.
@ Madviking : The "not concerted" part is what bugged me the most but.. nevermind. Next time will be better you wish so :)
If we're going to set responsibilities, mine lies in this post. I should have informed you that a turn per turn plan was expected.

@ Settling on the copper :
Is it worth it ? I'm unsure but I highly doubt it :
We can build Barracks + 4-5 Catapults + 4-5 Galleys before starting on melee units. Researching Iron Working wouldn't take too long. I feel we will have it in time.
OTOH : we need another worker. It will take 15 worker turns to clear the jungle + build the mine + road. That is 8 turns with 2 workers. Quite reasonable, I believe.

@ Barracks :
If we devote a city to Galley production only, then that city won't need its Barracks (which may switch the balance towards settling on the copper).

@ Settling on the copper - part II :
Settling the 4th or the 5th city there is conceivable.
Say we settle the 4th city : we will be far away from IW so we would likely settle on the resource. But then, what about production Empire wise ? Would it be sufficient ?
If we settle the 5th city, then our 4th city will be able to contribute to the military build up.
Also consider the Copper would be our site that is the furthest away from Catherine, which means it is very well suited for military production (short term). The best asset of the site is access to the resource, not production.

some good news btw:

compromise name now appears in the teamlist. so i guess youre a "full" member now:goodjob: welcome on board (if i got it right, each listed member will be recognized by the automated uploading/checking system and can submit official saves, therefore beeing a "full" member, no?)

copied memberlist:
kossin, BornInCantaloup, Compromise, Duckweed, madviking, michmbk, Snaaty, srad,

Well, you seems rarely read the new.;) I saw that right after I saw Compromise's 1st post in our thread! The answer to your question is NO, as a dedicated lurker, his play will be rejected, this was also answered in the maintenance thread.

Fix your mode issue, please!:D only half of our list team member will/can play.

@Kossin, it's good to clarify the roster from beginning.

Agreed with roster + HoF mode.

Who'll take the next set ? How long should it last ?

I believe Srad is back (week-end has ended). Can you play, Srad (do you want ?).
If there's just me, I still can but my opinion hasn't changed on the set length : I've played very recently so I'd rather not play a long set.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Snaaty, but for this one, I'll be dedi-lurking.

As the only one to get a long set of comments in before the last turnset, I apologize for not making it clear that more discussion and team consensus was expected.

I can't decide whether to view the current situation as a) karmic retribution that negates our gold island discovery, or b) effectively downloading the "challenger" version of this SGOTM. :)

I did play around on paper with the idea of planting a major production city 1N of the Stone, but without immediate access to a food supply--and no religion, not Creative, no Caste artist to quickly pop the borders, it just seems to take way too long to develop.

Sorry all, I'll be reading posts and might contribute a bit but I'll be really busy for the current week. If anyone wants to keep the discussion moving, you're up :)

I'm sure it is option a)
And the other thing I'm sure of isn't even worth telling.

@ Exploration :
There is a very large landmass in the NE. We haven't scouted any AI there, yet. However, there are good odds there is one.
Maybe the Workboat near Joao should head in that direction after traderoutes with Portugal are enabled.

@ Production cities :
There is a 2 clams + Plains hill site a little east of the fish + pigs on the stone island.
All 3 tiles could be in the first ring of a city we would plant there.

@ Catherine :
It will take us at least 10 turns to move an army towards Moscow. Maybe 15.
There's a chance Amsterdam is on the way. Should we consider the possibility to capture Amsterdam first ? It looks like a strong city with corn + gold at least.

Ok captain :)
I hope you're on the good side of the being busy.

Hmmm... I'll try to update the testgame in the next 12h.
Don't expect the most accurate thing, though
I'll fit in the stone + fur + copper islands + open trade routes with some AIs. Do we need anything else ? How far are we willing to settle the 4th-5th city ? I can lay the land till there.

Hi. I'm back and I had a look through the posts.

I could play the next turnset but I must say that I do not have the time to do much testing.

@Snaaty: Can we help you to get HOF running?
@Duckweed: If Snaaty is not next what about you? BOTM40 needs a break or :D?

Anyway I will have a look in the save to get a picture of the new situation.

@BiC ( or someone else with BUFFY installed :) ): Could you post more pictures of the current state of the map? The one's in madviking's post are too zoomed out to see culture outlines or tile contents.

Seriously...Paris is working a citizen specialist?

( or someone else with BUFFY installed :) )
So that is the reason why you're a dedicated lurker ! :D

For your convenience, East side :
Spoiler :

North :
Spoiler :

West :
Spoiler :

@ Just noticed :
There is Ivory next to our western workboat. Another strat resource.

@ Just noticed part II :
East of the fish + pigs : it isn't a single large landmass. 2 islands and then the gold + stone landmass.
