NESer Impressions Thread

Seems interesting, I am in.

My impressions will be posted here eventually, but until then I GRANT PERMISSION EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE THLAYLI HAS OPTED ME IN BY HIMSELF THANKS DUDE

I'm in, why not.

Abaddon: Land-grabbing backstabber.... :D I have only played with him a couple of times, actually more in forum games than here... we had fun.
das- I've only talked to him twice, and it was pretty terrible conversation. sorry.
flyingchicken- has good taste in movies, but needs to be an American. One day I'll rescue him from filipinoland. Oh and he's fc, not flyingchicken
Kal'Thzar-I don't know you, homie. :/
Lord_Iggy- fellow sci-fi lover who is generally more supportive and less crappy than most people here.
Luckymoose-The only other moose here... he stole my name and stuff, right?
Matt0088- one of the #nes guys that I think hates me, but he conversates well enough
Milarqui- a fun guy, one of the better sources of input in the new NES thread.
Ninja Dude- one of the most consistently interesting #nes people, but I get the feeling he hates me.
North King- definitely hates me, but pretends otherwise on #nes, just kidding. #2 conversationalist, imho.
Northen Wolf- Fellow fantasy nerd. My Estonian instructor, and the silent watchman of #nes. Definitely way better than most of the chumps here.
Omega124- only played with him in a couple of NESes, don't have any impressions.
Owen Glyndwr- Owen glindower? WTH? He's a cool cat, yo. I mean... dawg... that's my dawg right thurr.
spryllino-I dunno where to start. spry is a happening dude, you know? I've been as involved as possible with all of his NESes, because he's pretty effing brilliant.
taillesskangaru- He's so good at conversation that I had to double filter this sentence for expletives that I used to describe him. He's really freaking nice.
Terrance888- Everybody just told me to avoid him, so I don't know him at all.
Thlayli- nothing I could say would be meaningful if you don't already know thlayli. He has a little of that Phideas complex going, amirite? (that was my imitation of thlayli's attempt at Dax-style humor. Man i'm so meta. Wait is that what meta is? !wiki meta)
thomas.berubeg- Only know him from a couple of NESes, which is like a prevailing theme at this point in the analysis of my fellow NESers.
Yui108- I only know that he's one of the history guys, like Dachs, but I don't know him at all. Kinda like Dachs.
ZeletDude-I don't know him at all...
Immac-Funny AND nice, and apparently has a kid. That makes him my role model I think. Women are pretty.
hbar - I dunno, we've been in maybe one NES together, but he's already doing better than some other unsavory characters (anony)
birdjag- All I know is that he's ignored my racial intolerance and extensive vulgarity thus far. He truly is a jewel among mods.
azale- lolzale. He came here to kick butt and chew bubblegum, and he's all out of butts, or however that goes. He's one of the other #nes folk that hate me. what a character
tecknojock-too new to know, I guess. TIME WILL TELL. Soon you will join the ranks of other stale new people, like me!
Bill3000- the cunning linguist, physicist, and bane of stamp-collectors. Consistently the most interesting person in #nes. That's gonna chap somebody, I hope.
germanicus- when I think of germanicus I think of him as Deseret in that one NES that I don't remember the name of... We were cohorts. cool guy
Perfectionist- another history guy. But with a personality. Rather, one that is pleasant. He's always been nicer than most. I get the distinct feeling he's really trying to hide his hate for me, which is quite nice.
Farow-Don't know him well enough, because apparently he doesn't actually exist most of the time. He just like... phases in for a few posts and disappears into the nether. I think he came to #nes once, and I don't remember anything bad, so it was probably awesome. What a guy.
Kraz: like a cold glass of water on a hot day. If the water's frozen, and the glass was shot from some kind of glass-shooter cannon thing. Has kicked me from #nes almost as much as Thlayli.

Abaddon
A nice guy to play with and against. Has modded a couple of NESes I have joined, and he is quite good at it.

Adrogans
He is a great NESer, although I have not had a lot of interaction with him.

alex994
I've had little contact with alex.

Anonymoose
A great guy around here, good NESer.

Azale
I might have crossed my path with him, but I've had little interaction with him.

BananaLee
Mr Penguin strikes again!

bestshot9
We have worked together a couple of times.

Bill3000
None-to-little interaction.

Birdjaguar
One of the best modders I've had the pleasure to play with. He asked for HUGE orders, though.

bombshoo
I seem to remind playing in a NES next to him.

carmen510
Played in a NES with him.

Cull
Who?

Dachs

Daftpanzer
Mods a great NES right now, he is a good mod.

das
The man of the Maple Leaf on Black.

Eltain
He played a couple of my NESes, and I returned the favour. Has dropped out of my radar.

erez87
He has played one of my NESes, and was good if my memory works well.

flyingchicken
Made an excellent China in one of EQ's NESes (why doesn't EQ say his opinion, BTW?)

Fulton
We have played together.

GamezRule
The same.

germanicus12
The couple of times I have modded him, he has taken a Roman civilization.

hbar
Fellow physicist?

Immaculate
A wonderful mod and fellow NESer.

Jason the King
Still glaring at him for killing Taifa. Or letting it happen. He is a good NESer, though.

Kal'Thzar
While I still glare at him for his betrayal, it has mellowed.

Kraznaya
Not enough interaction to make a lasting impression.

Kyzarc Fotjage
Little interaction.

LittleBoots
If possible, he seems to like playing the Pope.

Lord_Iggy
One great friend. We even played together at the eRepublic game.

lord_joakim
From the north of Europe he comes.

Luckymoose
Nice chap, cool guy to work/play next to.

madviking
No interaction.

Masada
Coincidence in several NESes, not much interaction.

Matt0088
Great NESer.

Milarqui
That's me!

Ninja Dude
He is a nice chap and good NESer, although not too much interaction has happened.

North King
Only know him from reputation.

Northen Wolf
Also lives in the EU, like I do. We crossed paths in a Fantasy NES.

Omega124
Ehhh...

Owen Glyndwr
Sounds Welsh.

Perfectionist
He is physicist? Neat! (At least, that's what I gather from Dachs' opinion of him)

qoou
Oooh... his most memorable job was ruling Russia.

spryllino
Right now, he vies for control of France.

taillesskangaru
Recently had interaction with him.

Tecknojock
Unsure if we have met.

Terrance888
One of my first friends here in NESing, back in the time when he was still known as Charles Li.

The Farow
Damn, I don't remember where I met him.

TheLizardKing
He likes the US, and is a good NESer.

Thlayli
Paths were crossed, and has a good rep.

thomas.berubeg
More guys that I do not know (or remember) well.

tuxedohamm
I am now playing his TuxLife NES.

Yui108
We played in the same NES some time ago.

ZeletDude
He currently plays a good Netherlands in EQ's CIEN NES.

Abaddon - Obnoxious. :p Whether it's the metagaming, the smug arguing style, the post count obsession or the rules lawyerism, this pretty much sums it up for me. But he seems willing to roll with it, so shine on, you crazy bastard. It helps that he gets some pretty good ideas once in a while. ADDENDUM: If you want to piss off Abaddon, spell his name as Abbadon. You're welcome. ;)
das - Too lazy to see if anyone else gave consent.
flyingchicken - Competent Philippino person with ideas. Gives constructive criticism. Can't really remember if he played in any of my games right now.
Kal'Thzar - A fellow overlord of the undead. Lazy, makes lots of typos. :p Consequently tends to underperform, despite being genuinely devious.
Lord_Iggy - A pillar of the community. Rules the only countries anyone would actually want to live in. :p Above-par mod, especially in terms of persistence. Also, archnemesis and utter penguin.
Luckymoose - Neither lucky nor a moose. Admirably spiteful, though. Kept losing and losing in my games, from what I recollect. :D
Matt0088 - Who's this guy? Actually, I'm pretty sure we intersected at least a little bit at some point, but I really don't remember much. :(
Milarqui - Who's this guy?
Ninja Dude - Fairly competent player. Good sport about having his civilisation stolen from under him in N3S! :D Is pretty good at culture-crafting and staying in character.
North King - Another pillar of the community. Used to argue with him about stuff a lot, which for better or for worse does not happen as often now. Good writer, good mod, slow update rate. :p
Northen Wolf - Who's this gu- Actually, kind of familiar. Hmm... Whippersnappers!
Omega124 - Whippersnappers!
Owen Glyndwr - Whippersnappers!
spryllino - ...Who's this guy?
taillesskangaru - No idea either.
Terrance888 - Charles Li? He is evolving.
Thlayli - Veteran player, seems unreasonably opposed to the notion of just dying and moving on. :p Worthy adversary.
thomas.berubeg - Fall From Heaven person who made Fall From Heaven NESes that were actually pretty fun to lurk in.
Yui108 - Vague recollection.
ZeletDude - ???

Told you. :p

Other people have already said stuff about me, but that's cool.

In like Flint.

Dachs- has forgotten more about Byzantium (that's his favorite element, I think) than I'll ever know, and is way less standoffish than I originally thought. Genuine and give me hops now, plz. :P

das you b*stard ;)

Abaddon: Eh. Seems I mostly connect him to "finding loopholes in the rules". I've never really had a long-term playing experience with him other than that. Shame.

alex994: Very Chinese, though it's mostly his own fault (Guangfei?). Solid, quiet, risk-averse, and usually more of a long-term threat.

Anonymoose: I'd say "South Alabama represent" except I hated living there. A bit crazy; always funny.

Azale: The king of dropped projects and unsent orders. Currently doing an okay job of correcting that impression. When he does send orders, is fairly competent, although perhaps a little too easily manipulated. A member of our Avatar Cabal.

Bill3000: Relatively recent recruit from OT and #fiftychat. Also the only NESer I've ever met in person (not counting Supermath). So far, he has quite the knack for being lucky, which is much more useful than being skilled. Newest member of the Avatar Cabal.

Birdjaguar: Possibly the most successful mod of the last three or four years. The only gauge I have on his playing style is that he can always surprise you, and that he likes East Asia.

das: Best mod ever, and one of the best players ever. Doesn't seem to ever have issues getting into character, especially for despotic monarchies. Consistently excellent at story-writing in ways that I wish I could match if I still wrote stories with any regularity. Seriously, he's very awesome, or would be if he ever finished up developing his latest NES project.

Eltain: No clue.

flyingchicken: Erratic, unpredictable, and off-the-wall (usually mixed with some kind of entertaining-ness), but when he can be assed to send proper orders he's pretty damn good. If he actually stays interested in his projects or countries, they usually turn out quite well. One of the better of the more recent recruits.

germanicus12: Haven't really had much experience with him after DaNES I, which was a long time ago. :dunno:

hbar: You were right, I don't really know who you are. :(

Immaculate: Not a whole lot of experience with him yet. Seems a bit harebrained. Apparently he's good at running sci-fi NESes?

Kal'thzar: A kilt-wearing obsidian spear-wielding...physicist? :mischief: Gotta say, I agree with das, here: loads of potential, but hasn't managed to get the stars to align properly yet.

Kraznaya: Been here an awful long time to have had virtually no long-term experience. :p As a NESer, can't seem get stereotyped as Chinese no matter how hard he tries. Regardless of actual skill - hard to judge with such a sample size - does a very good job of seeming to have skill. Also has written some of the funnier orders I've ever seen. The Bad Cop to my #nes Good Cop.

Lord_Iggy: Last time I basically just associated him with Turks. These days it seems he prefers playing more out-of-the-way countries where he can sit by himself and fool around. He's also very stereotypically Canadian, with everything that implies. :p Another of the Avatar Cabal.

Luckymoose: Fun times. The grand desert invasion in NES2 VI is one of the more unfortunate errors a NESer has ever made. Lots of pluses and minuses on this ledger, but I think they mostly balance out. It's a shame he hasn't played anything consistently in awhile, but then again, neither have I. Charter member of the Avatar Cabal.

Matt0088: I have this vague impression of a fairly decent NESer who doesn't stick to any one project (or country) for very long.

Milarqui: lolberia. Other than that, never really had any interactions with him. :undecide:

Ninja Dude: Possibly the most successful recent member ("recent" defined here as "post-AFSNES", rather archaically). Fairly good mod and fairly good player, from what I hear. Member of the Avatar Cabal.

North King: Mostly lolindia. Almost never been in his NESes, almost never played with him in the same NES, weirdly, so I know him much better via chat than anything else. Fairly good reputation, though, especially at designing cultures and countries.

Northen Wolf: One of the FFHers. If I'm the good cop on #nes, he's the Really Good Cop, maybe even the Permissive Cop.

Omega124: :dunno: Not a whole lot. Didn't seem too interested in DaNES II.

Owen Glyndwr: Likes the British Isles. I imagine he could be fairly competent if he ever attempted to do anything. Charter member of the Avatar Cabal.

Perfectionist: Even if he did waste his talents by going into physics, possibly one of the best players ever with one of the best historical knowledge bases ever, even if he doesn't show it by not playing in a whole lot of NESes. Quite reliable. I wish more than anything that I could have found a way to get in character in his NES. Seems to be unduly fond of Northern Europe (minus the Celts), though.

spryllino: One of the more recent good recruits. Still a bit raw, but has quite the potential and knowledge base.

taillesskangaru: A fair amount of raw potential, but not a whole lot of experience. Another one of the guys that tends to get down on himself too easily.

Tecknojock: Aggie. Um...:dunno:

Terrance888: What? Your CHARLES LI is evolving!...but seriously, still very random, but significantly less annoying. This is a Good Trend.

The Farow: Isn't around nearly enough to give me anything other than a vague warm feeling about him.

Thlayli: Another one of us that passes for an 'old guard' these days. Perhaps overly fond of implausible plans, migrations, and World War II alliances, not to mention the Papism, but still great fun and fairly skilled. Member of the Avatar Cabal.

thomas.berubeg: An FFHer; I honestly don't know much other than that!

Yui108: Still working out a lot of the kinks, but still very young with lots of potential. Too bad he's a Papist.

ZeletDude: Quiet. I know more about his OT posting habits than his NESing ones.

I have a vague desire to rate NESers according to nonoffensive criteria like 'aggression', 'ability to stay in character', and whatnot, as previously discussed in #nes (the conversation that led to this thread, actually). Might do that later.

Brand new to this forum, but in.

I'll throw myself in there. Being inactive for the better part of 3 months, and being a generally poor NESer, I would love to hear what you all think. :P

Once again, the bitter divide between sci-fi/fantasy and historical NESers rears its ugly head. I think I'll have to try a historical NES next jusr to see how the other half lives.

This was linked? Stop fishing for compliments. Look elsewhere for self-esteem boosters.

Ah, yes, I remember now. My friendly (or not so friendly) neighbor to the north. :P You kept me in check quite a bit, I have to hand it to you.

I don't think it's so much sci-fi/fantasy and historical. I've never run a true historical NES- thus far I've run a Magical Earth Fresh Start, an Alternate World Cradle Fresh Start (two if you count the one-update LINESIII), A SimCity NES, a Steampunk RPG, and a Sci Fi Story NES.

The division is between the people who played the FFH series, who all kind of arrived around the same time and never really integrated into the rest of the forum. I recall I didn't join because of an impression that I'd be limited by dealing with a pre-designed fantasy setting, while I think the FFHers were intimidated by the apparent insularity of our community.

Off topic, but I'm hoping to update GalaxyNES this week, and I will happily talk my tongue off about it if you let me. :p

Also, front page updated again, and I hope to post my own impressions soon.

To be honest, what really intimidate me away from most NESes is the beleif that the insane complexity of the Stats will force me to not be able to play as much as I`d want, as RL would take up most of my time.

(though, I guess that`s hypocritical of me, as Immac`s NES is very Stat heavy)
