SGOTM 13 - Plastic Ducks

Sorry Duckweed, I'll try to hasten the process

What I think we can do for Orleans is something along the lines of :

T100 : whip Granary. I agree that whip anger is what matters most, here.
T104 : complete Workboat.
T105 : Start Monument.
T106 : Whip Monument.
T107 : Start Warrior.
T110 : Complete Warrior (same as original plan).

Does that effectively grant us 2 "free" whips over 30 turns ?

Regarging Lyons, I think we need the hammers the 2pop whip yields us. And we can't delay the whip if we're going Granary -> Workboat.

@ Snaaty's Paris micro :
That's effectively the same as that of Duckweed :D
No complaints from my part.

EDIT :
Duckweed said:
Gold city has 7 food plus when working 3 resources, so it can grow from size 3 to 5 in 6~7 turns. The food in this city is more than enough to support the growth faster the fading of whipping angers. What's the good of monument?
Actually, the underlined part is what makes me consider the monument...

The effect of the happiness from monument gets eaten by the whipping anger from the monument itself and will never fade off due to constant of whip later on, so it's a pure waste.

Alright, I suspected the logic I used might be flawed...
I'll stick with revised plan from post 524, then. Unless new suggestions are made before I play.

(I won't play tonight : I'll sleep :P)
But I'll play tomorrow so that a new set has been played when Kossin comes back.

So I went with this plan :

Rather uneventful :
We will have the Oracle !
Judaism spread to Orleans (free border pop). Cathy and Willem are Jewish.
We've found St Petersbourg but Moscow seems to be hard to access.
We're very close to circumnavigation.
The landmass with stone and gold maybe isn't populated.
Victoria is closing on Priesthood. Prolly she'll go Monarchy soon after.
Still haven't found Isabella. I guess she's far south.

Finally, regarding city 5 :
I unloaded the settler asap so we have the choice of :
- Settling the copper blindly and send the galley back ;
- scout a bit with the galley for additionnal seafood.

Save is reuploaded.
Who's up for the next set ?

Very good.:goodjob:

Oracle is in hand!

Both scouting WBs are still alive. Can't help to see if we could navigate. In less than 5 turns!

The main benefit of Judaism gives a free happiness in my mind.:D It also enable us to please Cathy and William soon, maybe we could demand some free cash?

The Russian WB was from Moscow and won't go south through William border. Therefore Moscow must be located in the north coast of the continent. There's definitely a short route through the north coast.

PH also opens CoL and that's a more possible choice for Vicky.

Hey... I'm still quite busy but I'm still reading.

Looks good so far :goodjob:

Am I seeing right or there's a 0F2C coastal tile 1S of the settler?

If you get the chance before tonight, could you upload a screenshot of Russian lands? Can't open the save on my laptop for some reason.

0F2C : exact... Not sure why...
I could have moved the settler on the settling spot, by the way... Maybe I should have...

Here are the screenies, sorry about that.
I realized only today that St Petersbourg was missing from what I uploaded :
Spoiler :

Notice how the land connecting the Dutch to the Russian is only 1 tile wide. (Optionnal : notice the super gems site.)

Bonus : the far east :
Spoiler :

Here as well, there are some nice city sites.
The city from Joao we saw earlier (culture) is Lisbon.

@Judaism in Orleans :
Additionnal happiness will cost us 1 turn of anarchy... We have to weight those whip hammers... Granted, our Empire wide production isn't stellar. But we still get some hammers, food and commerce.
It would be nice if it spread to Paris as well.

0F2C tile: most likely DS hit the tile with a jungle, removing 1F from it ;)

Thanks for the screenshots, Cathy shouldn't be too hard to take out and from there we can take WvO out easily.

Judaism will be our state religion because most of Russian and Dutch's cities are Judaism and they will be ours soon.:D If we want to switch to Judaism, then sooner is better.

Good point about Judaism :)

Here's the updated testgame.
Hammers/food are ok. Beakers are not.

I didn't bother updating the land tiles far east/far west. Just a minor correction on the Stone island (had 1 more tile than it should).

What are the voting issues for the next set ?
Oracle's pick.
City 4's placement (kinda forced, imo).
Next tech(s).
Others ?
What should be the set's length ?

I'm now firmly for picking Currency from Oracle. My rational :

1. We won't produce enough units till ~T135. Currency->Construction will be done ~T125, 10 turns are enough to produce 5 cats.

2. Construction is not the end of research, we need the techs to Maceman to accelerate the war and Drama and Music for border pop.

3. Currency costs 936/1.2=780C. With 5 city, Currency gives us 10~15 CPT, so it will takes ~60 turns (Obvious less since we will have more cities and cash from trade) to pay its cost if we don't research it at all. That's T170, we are still far from winning. Therefore, getting currency is beneficial.

4. Currency makes the tech trade much easier. Emperor AIs will have Alpha between 1000BC~300BC. Math is not enough to trade for Alpha and I don't think we want to put research on Alpha.

5. There are more of the potential from Currency

A. Cash demand, with shared religion, we could beg cash 10 turns later from Cathy and William to accelerate the research. This also guarantee that we won't get DOW from other AIs

B. Easy Diplomacy. Guarantee that Izzy will OB with us even we switch to Judaism.

C. Enable resource <-> cash trade

i havent finished my testing, but, with settling ON copper now, im also inclined more and more towards currency... ...only thing im not too sure right now is how it will fit in with ov whipping of our army, but with galleys + baracks + axes, that should be possible also (with a little fiddling, that is)

I just tested Oracle -> Currency (then Construction -> AH -> Code of Laws).
CoL is researched by T140, so we're one tech ahead than with Oracle -> Construction.

Troops are ready to leave our borders on T140, which is a little bit later than if we go Oracle -> Construction (although my build orders & micro may not have been the best / I was lacking Axemen when Construction came in).
Good side : we also have 2 spare galleys : 1 can stay at home to protect from barbs and the other can be sent ahead of the army as a stack protection.

I don't have a strong preference for the Oracle's pick at the moment.
I still think that Oracle -> Construction will delay the war by a few turns. But that is 5 turns at most.
In the meantime, we get some very necessary post war techs. If we want to DoW Willem straight after Catherine, then Currency may be best indeed :)

Currency also as we said much much earlier :)

I've got a hectic schedule for another 2~3 weeks, don't count on me to take a set in the meantime :(

i played the simulation up to t120:

save attached, what i did posted via markers near the cities (zooming out NOT recommended:lol:)

edith adds:
installing the hof mod buffy-something resulted in a lot of error messages like this (which i decided to skip, without having a better plan at hand):

buffy is shown in the mod list, but if it works like it is supposed to do... ...:crazyeye:... ...a really good question:)

but we will find out in a sec i guess:D

-> doesnt seem to work:cry:... ...trying to load the game i get this message:

Spoiler :

View attachment 286492

saying something along the lines:

the file you tried to open is protected to make sure the parameters included in the mod are not modified...

-> and i get kicked out of civ completely without any further warning...

...

sorry team, so far it seems i wont be able to play a set for a bit more. getting a full installation of civ+addons+mods running on another computer will take me a bit...
