If you've gone one the Civ V forums, you may have noticed my Civ Elimination Thread a while ago. Now, I'm trying out a new type of elimination thread where we see who's hometown is best.

Rules:
1. Hometown refers to the place you call home. It could be where you currently or used to live. So the elimination can be easier, if you live in a small town you may want to use a larger, nearby city.

2. In this sign-up thread, please post the name of your hometown. If it is not really well-known, post the state/providence and country.

3. If you can, post some information on your town and why you like it, especially if it is a lesser-known town so other people can get some information on it.

4. Signups close after 20 towns.

5. Elimination thread rules will be posted in the actual elimination thread.

YarraView5.jpg

Population: 4,077,036 (metropolitan)

Your Mileage May Vary:

Why I wouldn't rather be anywhere else:
- Because I've grown too attached to this city

Historical trivia:
- Originally the land was occupied by the Kulin nation. The city was founded on the Port Philip Bay in 1835 by one John Batman, who along with hundreds of settlers brought 55,000 sheep to the area and ignored evictions orders from the Government.
- Grew quickly during the Gold Rush (125,000 people by 1861, 500,000 by 1880), became the financial capital of Australia with the country's first stock exchange.
- Seat of Australia's parliament before Canberra was built because Sydneysiders can't stand us being the capital city.
- Hosted the Olympics in 1956.
- Forested areas surrounding the city are prone to bushfires. Black Saturday 2009 was particularly bad.

-it rains almost all the time
-communicating with locals can sometimes be difficult (assuming you don't speak Spanish)
-horrible bedbug infestation through out the city

Historical trivia
-Prior to the September 11, 2001 attacks, several of the hijackers of American Airlines Flight 77 (which crashed into the Pentagon) stayed at various motels in the Laurel area, including the Budget Host Valencia and Pin-Del motels in Howard County just north of the city limits. The wing of the Valencia where they stayed was demolished and a new Sleep Inn was constructed on the ground, which opened in April 2007. They accessed the Internet through public computers at a Kinko's just south of the city limits. The also prepared for the hijacking by working out at a Gold's Gym; a report by FBI Director Mueller states the gym was in Laurel,[26] while other sources list the location as Greenbelt, Maryland,[27][28] several miles to the south.

-On May 15, 1972, Governor George Wallace of Alabama, running for the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party, was campaigning at a rally in the parking lot of Laurel Shopping Center, near what is today a Bank of America branch, when he was shot and paralyzed by Arthur Bremer, a disturbed, out-of-work janitor

-The Cretaceous Era brought dinosaurs to the area which left a number of fossils, now preserved in a 7.5-acre (3.0 ha) park in Laurel.[4] The site, which among other finds has yielded fossilized teeth from Astrodon and Priconodon species, has been called the most prolific in the eastern United States
