DipNES 06

Operation Sealion, Hitler's planned invasion of the UK.

Austria cocked up massively with Vie-Bud. Italy ought to have gone for Tyrolia to use that army as a bargaining chip at the very least, regardless of prior diplomatic arrangements; if he had moved such, he and Russia could have dismembered Austria within two years - a lesser cockup on his part.

Everything else quite bog-standard (don't like Burgundy over Gascony for France, but that might just be me). Another boring S01. ;)

I'm not a fan of Army Venice - Tyrolia.

Why not? It gives you a sword of Damokles to hold over Austria without necessarily committing yourself - it's not as though having the army hold in Venice is using it any better, and Piedmont, the only other real option (other than attacking Trieste directly, which is potentially a masterstroke but usually just a planned bounce), leads to a choke point you won't actually be able to punch through until 1902 at the earliest (and, more likely, 1903-4).

Apologies for posting this reminder so late (got into Dwarf Fortress), but there's very few time left before the deadline. Get that last-minute Diplo and those orders in.

NWAG orders needed. I should really change that thing on the front page about the deadline being strict... or start enforcing it, one of the two.

Or .. both? wha?

You should enforce it, so I can play, instead of tardy people.

Oops- thought I'd sent them. Sorry!

Comments:

NWAG's orders arrived at literally the last moment :D.

immac, part of your orders was invalid; sorry I didn't catch it earlier, but oh well, that unit was holding anyway.

Lord of Elves, it doesn't matter that much, but if you wrote "Blah hold" instead of "Blah -> hold" and "Blah support" instead of "Blah -> support", it'd save me 10 seconds each update :).
And also, builds only happen in the winter.

Front page upgraded: number of units/SCs listed by each country.

Next deadline will be strict, unless 2 days really is too little time. Is it? Do tell if so.

It seems I've somehow managed to get a coalition of Italy, Austria, and Russia against me. I wonder where I screwed up...

EDIT: In my defence, it probably wasn't incompetence alone. I offered Russia a Juggernaught alliance, which usually favors Russia- I therefore assumed they were likely on my side.
EDIT TWO: Just in case this was some sort of 'get NWAG out of the game' thing, I should point out that in Diplomacy people are supposed to play pragmatically.

Don't worry NWAG, it often happens, and they always end up losing interest once they realize they need to outnumber you 2 to 1 to be able to take Anatolia.

I've played enough Diplomacy elsewhere to know that it doesn't always happen like that.

In my defense, in almost every game i've played (let alone the ones as Russia) i've had bad experiences with Turkey..

The nation just generally attracts ill-repute - simply because it really has to break, stab and steal to prosper, as I should know from my experiences as them.

The Black Sea can make or break Russia or Turkey, so your plan to vacate it reeked of a backstab.. I'm sorry I didn't trust you, but you must understand that i'm merely a product of my past experiences.

And they generally don't have favourable tales to tell of the Turks.

You didn't necessarily screw up. Turkey has cock-all options for allies. Play defense for awhile and they'll go away unless they all really want you dead. Turkey's pretty good for that. It's the reason I hate playing Turkey.

Also, if Russia thinks that the other players have any intelligence at all, he will rightly decline a Juggernaught, because he knows that it will instantly cause the rest of the countries to band together against him (whereas Turkey is no worse off than usual), and the alliance will get nowhere. It's a pie-in-the-sky alliance that only works in low-quality games or if it's camouflaged extremely well.
I've played enough Diplomacy elsewhere to know that it doesn't always happen like that.
Only if you aren't any good at tactics or if A-I-R can stay together (they usually can't unless they really despise you).

It's a moot point in this case anyway, as RL life pressures are increasing again. Assuming Ekolite or Eltain want Turkey, they can have it.

'I'm different honest guvnor, I am' says the hardened criminal to the parole board.

I have matured a bit since the old days- since I promised specifically that I would stay in INES III for the long haul I have, and if necessary I'll promise to stay in this game to it's conclusion.

It wouldn't be half as annoying if you didn't say stuff like this NWAG.

At least own up to it, don't go making promises you're just going to break at the drop of a hat.
