[RFC Europe] The Empire of the North

I almost never go for UHVs, and the Dutch UHV doesn't require you to have the highest point score in the world at a certain point. Anyways, I'm uploading my screenies to imageshack and writing the update now.

Chapter 1:
Empire of the Rising Sun

There was a gnat buzzing in Tokugawa’s ear, an irritating, buzzing gnat. He mumbled in his sleep, slapping away at the hand that touched his slim shoulder. Shaking, now… shaking. Tokugawa murmured something unintelligible, and finally opened his eyelids, looking lazily up at the broad-chested warrior standing above him. “Chieftain! The citizens have completed the task you set before them, finally… Satsuma is complete, and its sister city, Nara, on Zealand has also been constructed. We have finally become Japan!” The warrior grinned, the hefty sword at his waist gleaming from the bright, scorching morning sun. Tokugawa shot up at the news, immediately dressing himself in his silk, red robe. He gathered the long, curved sword he kept at his bedside up, and latched its sheath onto his belt. “Assemble the citizens, warrior… I must speak to them,” murmured Tokugawa, looking out from his cliff-side bungalow. The warrior nodded, bowing to the chieftain. Tokugawa quickly gathered something to eat, consisting of a small loaf of bread, and headed out to meet the new empire.

“My brothers and sisters, citizens of the Japanese Shogunate, on the mystical land of Australia! Here me, my friends, for I have important news for you.
“Your endeavors over the past decade have culminated into this wonderful achievement! This grand city of Satsuma, once just a speck on the map, has finished its construction! To the east, on the island of Zealand, our sister city of Nara has completed construction, under the wise rule of Yomoto Samurai, who lead our troops over the Great Sea to the rich and fertile land that Zealand has given us.
“Now, my brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, children, and elders… Now is the time of the Japanese! We shall conquer this grand land the spirits have given us in their generosity, and all of the world, if there are other inhabitants of it, excusing the prowling tigers and other strange creatures this land has for us, will pale in comparison to what Japan will become. And all of you… All of you, no matter if you and your sons and daughters, and their sons and daughters, have perished long before our destiny is complete, will know that you participated in what will become the greatest nation on this great planet Earth; for this is the land of the rising sun!”
Tokugawa belted out the last sentence, and the crowd turned into a frenzy. There was a constant chant, “Land! Of! The! Rising! Sun!” and the people were going insane, cheering, breaking open bottles of the sacred sake. Tokugawa looked down on them, and knew that the Empire of the Rising Sun would become the Empire of the Rising and Setting Sun, soon… For the Japanese were great in their might, as the world would soon see.

This update is a bit short, but I wanted to get the backstory in 'fore I did more of the story. ;) More in the next update, definitely.

EDIT - I'm attaching the save to where I am currently, don't mention what happens to me or post it in the thread! I'm at 940 AD on the save right now.
This is smaller then the size 2 I am using right now...

Lies! Lies and slander! :shifty:
Or maybe they are just little white lies?

So, in SK's screenshot, it seems that there are graphics that I am unfamiliar with... is that a Wheat Resource to the south of your capital or is it more like the "chaff"?

Quoting my story! :D

The size one was because I copy-pasted it from Word, and I was too lazy to increase the size.

Do you often put size tags around your work in word then?

I think they were automatically made when I copy pasted it from word...

I had different text sizes in Word, when I copypasted I think it automatically made the size tags.

The longships sailed across the sea. Prince Olaf stood at the front on the lead boat, axe high, even as rain and thunder rolled down on a stormy sea. Arngeir watched this from the next boat. Although the Prince was only fifteen years old, he was still leading this force, as he was heir to the throne. The Norse King Olaf himself had ordered this attack. The target was an old Saxon town named Lubeck.

Sixteen years earlier, Olaf had become Chief of the Danish town of Roskilde. In the sixteen years since, Roskilde was now the capital of what King Olaf had declared the Kingdom of Denmark and Norway.

After Olaf had become Chief of Roskilde, his forces had spread west. Every town, every village, every path, every landmark, every tree came under Olaf's control. The western edge of the Kingdom soon came to be the town of Aarhus, within five years of Olaf's rise to power.

Around this same time, across the sea to the north, there lived a different type of Norse. These were the Norwegians. They were hardier and less civilized than the Southern Danes. However, by Olaf's time, the main town of Norway was Tonsberg. It was rather powerful. However, the Chief of Tonsberg was dead. This had proven a great oppurtunity for men allied to King Olaf to seize the chiefhood. Arngeir had been there.

Suddenly, Angeir turned as he heard a lookout standing on another boat yell, "Land! Land!" The boats sailed ever forward. Angeir felt his stomach lurch upwards has his boat dropped off of a large wave. Next to him, Angeir heard the hulking Gizor vomiting off of the side of the boat. Arngeir shook his head. Gizor was a farmer's son, not a fisherman's or a trader's, and had obviously not been on boats much before. Arngeir had virtually grown up on boats. It took some time getting used to but after that you began to take in for granted.

As the boats approached the shore, they slowed. Arngeir pulled down his helmet, readied his axe, and prepared for the boats to hit the sandy beach in front of them. Lightning flashed and thunder roared.

The boat lurched upwards as it hit the shore. Viking warriors rushed up from the beach towards the town of Lubeck itself. There were load roars as the warriors showed their axes.

Arrows flew back at the warriors from the town. One embedded itself in Gizor's shoulder. He let out a guttural roar as he ripped the arrow out and snapped it in half with his massive muscles. Arngeir rushed up towards a hut where a pair of archers were firing from. They tried to run, but Arngeir slashed his axe, make a deep cut into the first one's stomach. He fell, guts spilling out. Arngeir slashed into the second one's neck, which was holding itself on by a single tendon as he fell.

Arngeir heard the action in other parts of Lubeck. Buildings burned and people screamed as they fell to lie dead or dying on the dirt streets. Arngeir stepped into the town to see bodies - Viking and Saxon - littering the streets, with various wounds and various body parts cut off. Arngeir turned to see the flag of Olaf raised high over the chief's house at the center of the town.

Spoiler :

The bodies on the ground were of anyone who dared resist the Vikings - men, women, and children. Arngeir was sickened by some of the brutality, but it was lessened by the fact that Arngeir was proud to serve King Olaf. Prince Olaf was parading around the town holding a golden sword high above his head as some Norse soldiers were cheering him on.

Lubeck would be but the first conquest of many by the Norse people.

Actually, the flag that got raized does look a bit like (General) Olaf's avatar.
