The American Dream (RFC)

By 1978 America had succeeded in taking over so many oilfields that the country was completely self sufficient. Fueled by the distant African and Arabian oil wells, American society experienced another wave of prosperity, which was extended further by the combined efforts of America’s smartest minds. Economists agreed that this American Golden Age would last well into the next millennium, and America would definitely not collapse until 2013.

Back in the war rooms of the Pentagon, grand strategic decisions were being made, and the summer of 1978 was designated zero hour, where America would reach DEFCON3 and obliterate its enemies. Russia was the only target left, so the hundreds of missiles in America’s arsenal were set to Russian targets. Tens of millions of American slaves had worked to death building the silos and command centres for these missiles, their sacrifice would be repaid many times over by the destruction these weapons would bring. At 9:15 on the morning of July 4th, America launched its nuclear assault.

After seeing his armies and cities annihilated the Russian leader sent desperate pleas to the American generals to stop the destruction, promising America sovereignty over the entire world in exchange for peace. However the American leadership wanted to demonstrate their power not just to the current citizens of the world, but to all the future generations of the world, that American power was absolute. The ground invasion was ordered barely days after the nuclear dust settled. Moscow and Kazan were both captured by a crack commando tank division originally from Central America, while parachutists moved quickly across the radioactive Russian landscape to take all the major cities within reach. Commanders in the field promised their superiors back in America complete occupation of Russia by the end of the decade. That same year French scientists researching Ecology in Africa were persuaded to share their secrets with seductive American spies.

The next year the conquest of Russia continued. As tanks rolled in from American Europe parachutists and gunships from Central and East Asia swept across the Russian countryside, it was only a matter of time till all resistance would be crushed. In the Americas the local non-nuking policy was upheld and Russian Cuba was captured without loss by new Central American amphibious troops. All that was left of the once mighty Russian Empire was a small strip of territory straddling the Urals and a last besieged outpost in Eastern Europe.

The dawn of the 1980’s brought the last few conquests to fruition. In the Caribbean the last unguarded outpost in the Russian Virgin Islands was taken over, while American armies mopped up the last of Russia’s mainland territory. As the cities Balkhash, Kalinin, Isin and Kara fell, so too did the last vestiges of Russian civilisation. As the ruling generals congratulated themselves and the regimes mouthpiece flew off to an aircraft carrier to declare “mission accomplished” America sat back to take in its new status as conqueror of the world.

Where did they come from??? Somewhere out in the radioactive goo of Russia, dead-headed patriots and mutated fighters have come back to claim Russia! Oh well, at least we still won. The news of this new Russian Empire was kept from the American population, and the world-beating celebrations went ahead, with ample showing of live footage of nuclear strikes on Moscow, and of Stalin’s statue being dragged to the floor. With all the festivities set to drag on for years, it was hoped that the Russian question would be, for now, left unanswered...

Great game! You played WAY better than I ever could!

You should allow the empire to collapse, and then reconquer it! ;)

Good Job! (On Super Babylon, Uber America and awesome story) :goodjob:

So, what’s next?

Or give us the save! :D

Can you believe the Russians respawned the turn after I killed them? That pissed me off, making me think I would have to conquer them again, luckily I had won!Every single conquest game Russia is always the one respawning at the end.

I just triggered decades of Golden Ages, so I don't have the energy to play til a collapse, I might come back and spend a few turns wiping out the Russians again, but not right now.

For anyone interested, here is the first few thousand years of the Babylonian Empire, when it was still mine!

Nice! I hope you pick the game back up, later. :D

And yeah, when I made a Spanish Empire almost as big as your (I didn't manage to crack Mongolia and America before the save got deleted) American one, the Russians respawned something like five times in 100 years. :p

 No way in hell I could beat that Babylon without going past 2050! :p I'll play around with the save, though.

knowing my luck, Babylon would probably collapse within ten turns on any other games, I still don't understand how they were solid until the turn they collapsed.

Yeah, you built them up pretty nice, I guess. :p

Congrats on the win! Great story, and we hope to see some more of your writing soon! :goodjob:

Tlonitte should play some Deity

I'm serious

Pah, the idea of playing anything non-RFC is absurd :) I do sometimes play Emperor for a challenge, its not too bad with powerful civs like the Europeans or Persia, but this was one of the first times I played with Babylon, so I went Monarch. I think its actually the first time I avoided being splatted by the Arabs or the Persians.

For my first story, I think it went quite well (it was at least finished!!!) I will try writing another, with more emphasis on characters and storyline, rather than purely America SMASH.

I rather liked the America SMASH storytelling, I like the history book-esq writing. :p

Well I've taken a few screenshots, still got to get round to actually writing anything though. All I can say is ... The Scots are coming!!

Amazing job Tlonitte! I wish i could play like that!

Thanks Bigtin, but I'm only good at playing the RFC map. I havent touched vanilla or any other mods for years, just can't find the enthusiasm or storylines to keep myslef interested. If you want to become as good as me (or much better!) I learnt everything from the RFC forum, especially following tactics used by people like AnotherPacifist and Blzzard. Search here http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=204 for conquest or domination strategies and I'm sure you'll be able to conquer the world too.
