I can see the quote now: "Bring your pretty face to my hammer."

That's a quote only an LOTR watcher could mention. ;)

I was ranked in the top #100 of North American Team Fortress Classic players waaaay back in the day (like 2003 or '04 I think), but I'm very out of practice. Also, TF2 is agonizingly imbalanced (I'm looking at you, demoman), so I'm not anywhere close to professional level in TF2. But, I do have some good nights:

I think this is the Cursed mission. I have also surrounded the cathedral with as many anti-religious buildings as I could (rum distillery, cabaret, nightclub, hotels and a casino).

@ Dell: Is that a small-tile city? Bravo! Turning a tiny city like that into a bustling metro... I'd be curious to see what you could do with a large city!

Its a large tile on the original map but that might mean that it is smaller than tiles in the expansion or mods.

Indeed. The crime increase is global, so it doesn't matter where it is. It does boost Commerce though, as west india man said.
Maybe it's supposed to be a conscious reference to GTA?

Then again, I thought that all of the non-San Andreas outings weren't worth investing the time to learn the layout all that well, especially IV which had that convenient GPS, so maybe the casino's not a role-playing aspect. :dunno:

I haven't invested that much into policing at least. I've attracted plenty of tasty, succulent corporate elites without them.

I am also disappointed no New Jersey jokes have been made - it's where I put most of my dirty industry and once the Scum Island is taken up, likely all my landfill. :p

Two libraries in a city with 40 000 people which is that size? I would have probably put in nearly ten libraries by then. :p

I actually like remaining solvent, thank you. :p

Though, I spend a lot of my money on the mass transit. I only need a few libraries anyway given their area of effect.

Right now, transit fares cover up about 60% of the transit budget...

Why the hell is your casino on a separate piece of land on the edge of the map? It would be awesome in a place with lots of commerce!

There aren't (legal) casinos in GTA IV, only underground ones. However, I did build it as a homage to GTA III's Liberty - Kenji's casino.

What fffffff!

I chose to put it in really to reference Kenji's Casino from the Liberty City in GTA III. But since that didn't exist in the actual game... voila, it gets its own island, just like the prison/dump.

Gameplay vs. aesthetics I suppose. :p

That and the Casino is probably one of the best rewards, alongside the Federal Prison - no real crime effect from what I've noticed, and a bit of extra cash.

I'd place the casino in Dukes, where Roman gambles in the very beginning of the game and you have to lose the loan sharks.

It would make sense but... it'd seem a little conspicuous, unlike those underground casinos.

So I discovered this neat program that isn't really a game but it could very well be someday! It's called Space Engine and it's a universe simulator. You could zoom in as close to a planets mountain range to as far as the visible universe and it'll procedurally generate countless star system and planets, all of which you can explore. There are very warm planets, very cold planets and even planets with life on them. This is one of them;

Spoiler :
scr00003.jpg

This is a planet somewhere on the rim of the M81 spiral galaxy. Not only is it a comfort terra orbiting a gas giant, it's a comfort terra with life on it.

Spoiler :
scr00004.jpg

One side of the planet experiences the usual light/dark of the day while the side facing the gas giant never gets truly dark. This is how the inhabitants learned that their moon was round as on occasion, they would see their moons shadow transit over the giants face.

Spoiler :
scr00005.jpg

A long time ago, people on the giants side of the planet developed very different superstitions to those on the other side, which caused many wars. Now, the planet is entering an industrial age with the giant side being the more technologically advanced. But one of the traditions that holds over from the past is the season where the gas giant obscures the light in the middle of the day

Spoiler :
scr00000.jpg

The M81 spiral galaxy is clearly visible and on other parts of the planet, neighboring galaxies are fully visible, spawning slightly differing myths in relation to the presence and absence of the gas giant. This time where the giant obscures the sun is the best time for the moons astronomers to observe the night sky as it is the darkest time of this side and the giant normally brightens the night sky to where you can't really see many stars.

Spoiler :
carrawayswest.png

carrawayseast.png

The West and East Carraways. The Carraways more or less are Liberty City's dump for the socially minded, directly to the South. The island chains are home to many tourist attractions, and there are even subway routes into Liberty for those too frugal to buy a ferry ticket.

Casinos have popped up on both sets of islands due to lax enforcement of gambling laws.

The Western Islands are home to 7,000 people, spread out across islands that for the most part are linked by bridges. This a sharp contrast to the Eastern Islands, which don't have much in the way of bridges due to the infeasability of such a system. A notable feature besides the packed Town Square, is the Isla Del Muerta, an island that's sole structure is a cemetery at one with nature...

The Eastern Islands are home to only 1300 people. Ferries and subways are used to get around the area, which was once the heart of the Carraways but the Western islands have seized top position.

There are plans to eventually build marinas in these cities for tourists' benefit, but until then, just going to the beach, enjoying the gambling districts, or hitting the upscale business districts on Corazon Island or Town Square can make for a great holiday.

Let's continue our tour by going somewhere less pleasant: Southern Alderney.
Spoiler :

Alderney_Map.png

alderney.png

Alderney has more or less developed to keep dirty industries out of Liberty proper as Algonquin builds up. There are plans to turn it into Liberty's landfill as well once Scum Island is full.

As such, only a few hundred souls have taken up residence in the filthy industrial island that, for the time being, is all there is to Alderney. But with wide thoroughfares being built, it is speculated that one day, Alderney could be more than Liberty's dump... it could be a state unto itself.

The remains of a once-affluent neighborhood can be seen on the northern fringes of the island. Logically, when the factories moved in, those who could afford it moved to Liberty.

Lol.

libertycity4.png

Probably the last screenie of Liberty City.

Population: 107,000

Algonquin has become a thriving metropolis, home to the vast majority of Liberty's population. Happiness Island, to the southwest, has become the location of the Statue of Happiness, as well as the Liberty City Country Club. The Mayor hopes that putting the Club next to the immigration center will remind immigrants of the opportunities they encounter coming into America.

Bohan in the north has finally begun development. Mostly apartments and industry, the island began to be developed due to Liberty's demands for a domestic industrial base. Bohan's subway lines link to both Dukes/Broker and Algonquin, thus linking all four boroughs together as one.

In Algonquin, a Stock Exchange has finally opened up in Star Junction, while the city's first high school has opened in Algonquin as well, so as to better prepare elementary children for college.

The economy is in turmoil. The Zirconium (Chrysler) Building and Rotterdam Tower have brought many jobs, but one could say too many! Other businesses struggle to compete, and residential demand waxes and wanes. Bohan's expansion of industry has helped, but has Liberty reached her zenith...?

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad BETA

I played with no sound (bug), however it was totally awesome :D I love the new cover and improved suppression systems, and new game modes. Tanks are a bit different and still buggy but eh, it is a beta. I still need to fiddle with the graphics settings too, and I also think some of them are not enabled in the beta (neither is melee).
