Italy

Italy seems to be dominated by Sarkov. Soldiers in Sarkovite uniform continue to fight on all fronts against Cytrians and Samnites. While Lijuria and Ctesiphod expand their influence and borders relatively peacefully, central and southern Italy is still torn by war and rebellion. Also, the small state of Toras-noth is quickly expanding, placing Ziril as the Matriarch of the Animist spirits, and their beloved Torasetar is her voice. Italy has War and Peace, Warriors and Peasants, Wine and Preachers. It is the most interesting region in the world; so why note buy our complementary cruise, traveling from the Rtasian trade routes down to view the Real Time skirmishes of Bellevetum, sneak through the battle lines and view the Grandeur of Sarkov, swelled by fortune seekers. Then you can travel south to see Toras-Noth, and walk with the Torasetar to look into the mouth of Ziril while drinking a mug of wine. If you didn’t get pushed in, the visit to the Aegean is half off!

At Sarkov, the War with Samnia took much of the nation’s attention. Lead by Sarklov the Second and Sylman the Strong, their army once again marched the worn path at Benevetum. There, they met the Warlord Camillius Tatius, King of Samnia. Once again, they are outnumbered despite their conscription, but this time they managed to force Tatius’ forces to retreat in the largest battle in history so far: The Third Battle of Bellevetum.

Sylman leads the Vanguard of a thousand spearmen, followed by Sarklov and the Six Generals of Sarkov. On the road to Samnia, Tatius leads his warlords to pin down Sylman’s force while his archers plugged them from neighboring hills.

Sarklov’s Force March caught Tatius surprised, and managed to break through to Sylman’s men. They cut a bloody swath through the Samnite warriors and rushed the Archers, many whom were killed or forced to retreat.

Tatius then revealed his large Spearmen force, formed into various shield walls and skirmisher formations. The battle hung in balance as the Sarkovite and Samnite spearmen clashed under the hill.

Sarklov reorganized his men and lead the charge back down the hill and broke Tatius’ right flank, ending the battle. Tatius retreated in good form with his skirmisher-style spearmen fighting the rear guard back to Bellevetum.

Losses: Sarkov loses 2 Spearmen (1500), 1 Warrior (1000), 1 Warrior gains experience; Loses 2500 of 7000, or 35%
Samnia loses 2 Warriors (2000), 1 Archer (500), 1 Spearmen (750) or 3250 Men total
Loses: 3250 of 8000, or 40%
Total: 5750 of 15000 men, or 38%. The Largest Battle yet in history.

When the Sarkovites reached Bellevetum, however, it was strongly defended like last time. Unwilling to rush the fortress (and perhaps die like his uncle), and with Sylman quibbling “Let’s conquer something and break out the ale!” they left the wounded, their warriors and a thousand spearmen at the siege and broke out among the countryside. Tatius tried many times to break out, and although his curragh did let him send reinforcements out, they were miniscule in number. Bellevetum remained under control, but he was helpless as rest of Samnia was broken up and conquered, with or without destroying Bellevetum. Although it was held very loosely, the Sarkovites were satisfied with their conquest; governing will come later. They have followed their codified rules of war (Called the Sarklov’s Code of War) and they have many heros to celebrate.

Back home, Sarkov and it’s towns celebrated Hero’s Day year after year, stabilizing their confidence despite their heavy casualties. Culture is once again increasing as Samnites are being assimilated at an even faster pace. An attempt at a Samnite Rebellion failed, and all look eagerly upon the fall of Bellevetum.

As for Bellevetum, it still survives with their curraghs unchallenged, and their soldiers still slip the harbor to raise up Samnites in “secured” provinces. They still have a brisk mercantile industry, especially with Ctesiphod, and although besieged, still control enough farmland and fishing waters to feed itself. Conquest must come with ships, or with assault.

Finally, more troubling is the reports of Sarkovite soldiers raiding the few Vallarian and Cytrian independent states remaining. Raping, pillaging, burning, ransacking, and looting, bands of troops in sarkovite uniforms have ravaged this area. Several towns joined Ctesiphod, while others attempted to “Pursue” with bands of militia, which never found any but managed to scare many villages with their tales to renounce Sarkovite rule.

Ctesiphod, in contrast to their more warlike past, develops comparably peacefully during this period. They expanded religiously, culturally and economically, especially at Ctesiphod, the capital. Their ancestor and martyrdom traditions expanded during this time to include addition figures of their history. And their ancient walls built by the first Ctesiphodite warlords are being rebuilt by the new Nicatas, granting new confidence to the people.

diraiyah_2.jpg

Outside of Ctesiphod, the Cytrians are become more and more sedentary and productive. Varence, with government investment, became a key town on the Rtas. In addition, they established colonies outside of Valyria on the so-called Cytrian Peninsula. Oral tradition states that the Cytrian people organized there before the invasion of the Rtasian valley. Overall, the Cytrian economy continues to grow in pace with the Sarkovite.

Liguria also expands, their message of unity enjoyed by Cytrians and Vallarians alike, and soon taking a role in trade once held by Sarkov with the Samnites. They borrow heavily from Ctesiphodian beliefs, but focuses more on general ancestors of a community as a whole, especially notable leaders and innovators who are believed to still live with their inventions. They also have condemned the Sarkovite attacks on their own people, saying that “declaring a Code of War, and then deliberately going against it, is hypocritical.”

Toras-Noth is beginning into an age of expansion. Their religious matriarch, Ziril the spirit of the Great Volcano, spread throughout southern Italy (especially Pompeii) and Sicily, and many of these groups, even if not bowing directly to the Torasetar, at least nods towards his religious authority. An important development is the growing of the “cleansing” industry, where “heretics” are “cleansed” with “righteous” labor. This served to greatly increase their young economy. Another development is the discovering of wine and the expansion into large vineyards. As of yet, Toras-noth is the only state which can export wine. United by their love of their Torasetar, the lands directly controlled by the growing city are growing in confidence of their theocractic rular.

Aegean

This time, Thloryn dominates the Aegean in the term of gossip. War breaks out between Thebes, Sparta and Thloryn and resulted in a very confusing conflict. At Gyrid, they focused on securing their conquest and built a new city, which grew quickly. As the Illians secured their hold on the Black Sea, the Phagrian exodi on Rhodes discovered Cyrus and has barely enough resources to settle on that new homeland before their last provinces deflect. Buy your own Rhodian province for $201,212.21 and rule with near Impuny! Or, hire an Thloryn business consultants who lead to the growth of the city into an economic center: Dominate your business and hide from Trust Busing Litigators! If you do both, you can hire a Gyridite city planner for free! Shipping and Handling not included.

Most of the mainland territories of Rhodes slowly defected to Gyrid. Sensing an opportunity, they built a new city between their former territories and the Phagrian homeland. It’s called Aladria. Using much of the loot from the conquest of Phagria, the new city hosts great harbors, large public spaces, and a hybrid of Lyr and Ceris architectural styles. In other news, under Gyrid leadership Ceris is allowed to exploit it’s gold mines within a larger state, causing it to also become a city. Gyrid has successfully intergrated its new territories. Also important is the combination of their metallic inquisition last century combined with the skilled metalsmiths of Ceris to produce a strange new form of Bronze. This bronze is much, much harder to make but is so much stronger! If they can perfect this bronze… Only the future knows what may happen.

Troy, on the other hand, focuses on colonizing more lands on the southern edge of the black sea. They managed to unite the rest of the Illians using their dominance on the local trade. It is becoming quite a formidable rival to Gyrid. As for Rhodes, her territories slowly flaked off as her explorers searched ever more feverently. Finally, they’ve discovered, conquered, and settled Cyrus. As governors on Rhodes itself prepare to declare allegiance to Thloryn or Gyrid, they brought as many loyalists to Cyrus as possible to form a new homeland.

As for the three-way war on Greece, it started between Thloryn and Thebes. Thloryn raised another, more professional army and launched an attack on the Theban walls. The Thebans held the assault and it became a siege. Sparta was enraged and liberated Cornith, but was prevented from advancing further. War on land became a stalemate. Truces occurred every few years, and Thebes was besieged on and off for decades.

spartan-warriors-2.jpg
One of the many indecisive skirmishes on the Peninsula between Thloryn, Cornith and Thebes

Finally, an Athenian general developed the technique of aggressive amphibious attack. Instead of landing with merchant ships on a suitable beach only to move troops faster, he ordered his Curraghs to split into three groups in a direct attack of Epirus. Two of them will land on the outside of the city to prevent escape and to attack with ladders, while another force of Curraghs and spearmen will land in the harbor, and assault the acropolis.

This succeeded. The Thebans tried to reconquer Epirus, but lost most of their army to an Spartan landing from the Cornithian Gulf. Thebes and Boeotia was conquered by Thloyn, the Cornithian Gulf by Sparta, and the rest of the Theban lands fell into disrepair. Thebes itself devolved into a town, now directly dominated by Thloryn. Thloryn soon grew into a metropolis after the defeat of Thebes, reflecting the now nearly complete dominance of all international trade within the Aegean.

The war against Sparta still rages, however, as is the growing fighting against the Macedonians. In addition, there is an exodus of Greeks after the fall of Epirus to Italy, where they are called Apulians by the Sarkovites. They have some relations with Thloryn, and are most important for expanding Ctesiphodite and Ligurian trade routes to the borders of the Aegean sea itself.

Middle East

Egypt comes under their second dynasty that of Nahan Ra. Egypt begins to undergo a great project to completely unify the culture of the nation under the Pharaohs and patron gods. Under Nahan, the process starts with the push for the first True Pyramid. After many experiments which litter the riverside, he was buried in the tallest and must beautiful pyramid yet. Nafer also begun his great pyramid, using the advantage of knowing what to do to build one even greater than Nahan’s. Finally, the newest Pharaoh decided to overtop them all, setting such a large base that even the engineers of Nahan and Nafer’s time were shocked. The Pharaoh’s word is the word of Ra… But wait, there’s more! They’ve begun their greatest pyramid yet. A visit to this holy construction zone (and a ticket to the Virgins of the Temple Keepers [pimp]) will set you back only a few mandatory attempts at tomb raiding!
Spoiler :

The project also includes the Temple Complex of Ra in Anor to match the Temple Complex of Osiris in Wasati Thebes. As the Pharaohs slowly shift the Egyptian polytheistic beliefs they raise their own status from the patron of one of the gods, to being the patron of THE DOMINANT god, at any time. Legends are being told of how Ra beat Osiris in the Hunt for the Great Nubian Crocodile, and how Osiris agreed to let Ra control the Nile floods. As they coincided with a series of nearly perfect floods, the status of Ra, and in turn the Pharaoh, has never been greater.

Finally and more mundanely, the Pharaohs of Nahan and Nafer followed up the reforms of the First Dynasty of Osiris (as it is now called) by continuing the reorganization of Egypt. The old provincial system still causes the possibility of powerful governors, the threat of which they recognized. It will take more years to complete this project, but all recognize the inevitability of the Pharaohs domination of the Egyptian Nile.

Anor and Thebes are becoming centers of culture and religion, as Abysos is growing in ever more economic importance as a warehouse for supplies against Nubia. Even Avaris, patronizing Ra, is on the verge of becoming a great city.

One major boon is the invention of the Preemptive attack. Egyptian merchants warn the Pharaoh of they have noticed growing warlords in Lybia or Nubia, and the Pharaoh will launch an attack to scatter their armies. This has greatly reduced Nubia’s centralization and established an Egyptian base in the desert, based on a pair of Oases.

However, their raids on the Canaanites received growing resistance instead. The Tribe of Canaan, a religious-cultural government espousing the unity of the Canaanites, receives many refugees from the west of their theocracy escaping the raids of Nafer. They also establish small paths, which quickly grew into roads of trade, to other Canaanite cities. Finally, they reorganize the irrigation system, and there is possibility of a project to bring the life-giving waters of the Jordan farther inland.

Mesopotamia

If the Irrudite War was chaotic, at least it was localized. The Wars for Levean Supremacy embroiled all within its maul. Hyakkite city states brawled in an uncivilized civil war, stemming their flow of raw materials to Aramyan industries. The Parushites fall down a few rungs on the way to centralization, as Aramyan craftsmen entered the void of their migrating warrior caste and their remaining warriors divide their attention. Greatest of all is Aramya’s great plan, and great failure to defeat Ortun with her first blow. Attrition took their toll on the economies of all sides. The prosperity of the first half of this time was completely destroyed in the battles of the second half.
Axmuk.png

If you buy now, not only will you get the above map but all 16 in the series detailing the rise and fall of the Aramyan civilization!

The first decades were ones of peace, but were called the “Cold War” or “First War” for Levean Supremacy. The first years were ruled by a Regency Council who generally followed the policies of Launar, but then there arose the Fourth Descendent of Nir Aram, called the King of Fear. Instead of seeing a progressive nation, he sees a trapped one, one trapped by its excess population, trapped by the deserts of the south, the mountains of the east. Trapped except for one direction: North.

It was the time of conflict between the King of Fear and the Regency Council when Aramyan society seemed to start collapsing. Ancient principles of the Great Rivers which flows forever were ended by Parushites and Gujaratis discovering the sea-route between India and Mesopotamia. The beliefs of animism were matched by growing scholasticism. The growing economy suddenly stagnates as the Parush divided into Sedentary and Traditional tribes, and all watch in as Ortun continues to expand, grow, and develop.

The King of Fear changed all that. He finally defeated the Regency Council’s control and started choosing people who aren’t among the “Exalted Families” base on a new Meritocracy. He turned the tides on immigration; from now on, non-Levean or Parushite neighbors will be assimilated or enslaved, and Aramyans who have sworn loyalty to him will spread throughout the known world to spread their culture. Instead of an reclusive and rich culture, he promoted an ever more expansionistic and militaristic culture. The language was fixed based strictly on Cameron grammar and culture was fixed based strictly on himself. And he has succeeded. The Semitics to the south are persecuted and killed as training in the development of his Terror Tactics. Aramyan families migrate en-mass to Hyak, to Ortun, to Parush yet retain loyalty to him and proved useful in the future war.

He also wanted to prove that the blood of Nir Aram was still strong. He wrestled with his captured slaves, and is said to defeat every Non-Aramite he has ever meet. His glare is legendary and his eyes ever since was carved as holes, for legends say that any attempt at matching the glare (and when, not if, it failed) will kill the sculpture when King of Fear himself stares at the inept craftsman through his true eyes.

During this time he also expanded the trade in the search for raw materials. He personally, like the King of Lust, second of Nir Aram of hold, meets the leaders of Hyak and stared them into submission. As Hyakkite resources flowed into Aramya, the industry revived and their new gods fit perfectly within the new way of thoughts. Renamed and married to their greater spirits, the Priests symbolically “killed” the animist spirits about eleven years into the rule of the King of Fear in a nationwide campaign of religious festivals.

GdEwf.png

From his reorganizations of his Bureaucracy, of his entire culture, of establishing Aramite enclaves in other cultures, of his personal strength he has given Aramya an entirely new spirit, one which was not entirely liked by Ortun. They too, begun courting the chiefs of central Levea, and instituted more powers over their own traditional ally, that of Awai. This stalemate resulted in many proxy wars. Ortun’s influence won out in Central Levea, but in Parushistan Aramya won out, and in Hyakkite states their influences lead to bloody wars. Neither can afford direct conflict, for it will lead to collapse of either state. It would be MAD! Mutually Assured Destruction!

Unfortunately, the King of Fear was MAD. He’s MAD at how Ortun tried to step up to ARAMYA, the EXALTED STATE. Don’t they know what happened to IRUD?

aramyaortuneveofwar.png

Picture of influence before the “Second War of Levean Supremacy”.
After the Second War of Levean Supremacy, there were many more. However, they won’t be considered here, and only the high and low points of both sides across the wars will be noted.

After a trip back from Ortun, the King of Fear let slip, intentionally or not, that Ortun was building a Canal between the rivers. Of course, he didn’t mention it was an irrigation canal, but it didn’t matter. According to all legends, Danu selected Danae as his blessed lands because that is where Tigris met Euphrates. If Ortun changes the land like that, what will happen to their blessings?

Riding on this tide of fear, they went to war. The King of Fear prepared for many years, and launched the first attack upriver from Sarte. This started the Year of Misfortune.

First, they sent their Navy to raid and destroy Ortun’s connections to her other territories before she is able to organize. What they didn’t know is that Ortun was also building up her navy, and with home waters, knowledge of irrigation canals, and without merchant ships to protect they begun preying upon the Aramyan Fleet. This cuminated in the Battle of Thinis Run about a third of the way to Ortun, whence the Navy was defeated and the survivors scattered to reorganize back at Sarte.

Second, the Aramyans decided to attack Awai with their Parushite allies. They’ve succeeded in conquering the citystate… but that is because it turned out to be empty. The Awaitis have retreated to Ortun and declared for the growing power.

Thirdly, the Aramyans decided that, since Ortun has naval superiority on both rivers on the defensive and can switch forces faster than a two-pronged attack can coordinate, they will attack from the center and use their terror tactics from a land base, as they’ve done against the Semitics to the south. It was then when the importance of Ortun’s victories in Central Levea during the Cold War came into play. Their army was battered, skirmished, and unfit for battle when they finally made it to Ortun. After settling into fruitless siege for another two years, the Second War of Levean Supremacy ended.

From then on, Ortun or Aramya will alternately declare war or press for truce as the battle lines swayed back and forth. About a decade after the Year of Misfortune, Ortun managed to march into Kitalo itself. When they are crossing the bridge into Danae, who to appear but the King of Fear himself! He fought and killed many on the bridge as his men destroyed it, and swam back with his heavy armor after it was broken, leaving his enemies on the other side, or dead in the river on mounds which legend says formed new islands on which nothing ever grows. Stuck full of arrows, he lead the counter attack which broke their hold on Kitalo and their offensive army. This lead to the Year of the Upflowing River as Aramite forces advanced methodically through Central Levea, subjugated every Chiefdom, reconquered Awai, and stood at the gates of Ortun.

Decades of wars and truces later, the battle lines stood there, at the gates of Ortun. Their ships fought off attempts at naval blockade and thus prevented siege. Their ancient fortification prevented successful invasion. Unknown number of attacks, assaults, battles… it isn’t even known how many of these wars there were! It is said that the mounds of the dead Aramyans formed ramps leading up the walls, matched by dead defenders forming ramps the other side, and upon this shifting battlefield thousands continued to fight and die, retreating, returning. Outside their colonies relied ever more on Ortun to break enemy sieges, leading to growing confidence in the power of Ortun.

However, the Wars of Levean Supremacy has other consequences as well.

Hyak faced a much more confusing conflict. Those declared for Ortun faced Aramyite revolts and accusations of betraying their people to Ortun. Those declared for Aramya faced mistrust that they would support a land lead by an “Avatar of the God of War Himself”. Those who declared neutrality were raided by all.

The Citystate of Duma raided Contar, most notably during the Year of the Upflowing River. However, they didn’t realize the Curgash, funded by Ortun, was growing ever stronger among the Pro-Ortunites. After the Pro-Aramyan Tobe was defeated, the Holy Army of Tekarzi (In Kitablic, known as Tarias) fell upon Duma, liberated Conar, and declared officially for Ortun. As there is another Aramyan army outside of Ortun, they are preparing to attack and defeat it.

In Parush lands, they generally supported Aramya and raided Awai and even Mu. However, most of the Parush homelands are being slowly assimilated. The more traditional warrior castes slowly migrated away while the others died on the battle field infront of Mu and Awai. Ever more relying on Aramya to defend them while they levy large armies to strike Mu, the remaining independent Parushites are almost a liability instead of an ally, which many Aramyans are considering annexing.

Zambezi

Independent Zambezi is a dream. Lured by copous amounts of bribes from Zimbabwe and Koama, they one by one gave into their merchantile pressure and joined one or the other nations. While Zimbabwe united the Zambezi Culture, Kuama focused on assimilating the Malawi one town at a time. Malawi warlords are 665.95 each, so if you want to take revenge on an ex, call us up and prepare to welcome them through the portal! But if you call now, you can assimilate one town and get one free.

In Zimbabwe, spirits were high and their new King Hungwe was seen as brave an intelligent. Zimbabwe’s size grew immensely with his manipulation of trade and bribes, and because the other cities joined willingly they are increasingly confident of their status as the preeminent nation on the Zambezi. Trade continues to flow down the river, and Manapools dominated any and all trade on the river and seems to be on the verge of becoming an economic center.

The Shona, however, received new leaders at this time. The northern tribes joined Zimbabwe, but the southern ones finally agitate themselves enough to seek conflict. Raids have increased along Zimbabwe’s southern borders, and although they are all easily defeated by the Zimbabwe’s archers, they have disrupted the ancient Savanna river trade. The old capital seems ever more irrelavent compared to Manapools, and many whisper that the King himself will move to the new city and abandon the old one.

Finally, the Kuama slowly integrated Malawan society into Zambezi culture with trade and bribes. Like Zimbabwe, they preferred peace to war. However, unlike Zimbabwe they have to deal with a different culture. As Kuama controls more and more Malawans, they become more and more Malawi.

Dakinsa Raj fought a successful war against Yubhama using their new Gujarati Macemen allies. However, as important as that was, it wasn’t the most important development in India. For a century they have developed their intellectual and academic assets, ushering a brave new world of philosophy and science. A new discovery was made, one which will soon change the world. To read about the background of this discovery, and to support your local public television station, please consider donating $20. For $35 you can get a firsthand account of the Yubhuman war. And for $60 you can read the series “From Brick to Bronze, Rise of Dakinsa Raj”. And for a $100 contribution you will get the whole set!

On the domestic front first, for Kumar II prepared for the war many decades before leaving it for Jairaj to prosecute. The Gujaratis were brought into the Raj as another Rajpayla, and even the significant opposition shut up after finding gold coins in their beds. Libraries and schools are continued to be built in the larger cities, expanding Dakinsan culture throughout the rajdom. Even the larger villages have teachers and material sent to them, so that the smallest villages can send their brightest student for formal lessons every year to the larger ones, who will send their most promising student to one of the larger towns.

Jairaj’s Conquest of Yubhuma is one that is studied by strategists because of his brilliant strategies. He brought the possibly hostile Gujarati Warlords to his side with bribes, and instated them into his army. He then let them spearhead the thrust towards Yub’bhabhumi itself. The Yubhuma Raj met them in battle outside the city, and forced a stalemate.

However, Jairaj himself marched another, smaller force through the Pastun deserts (rousing the local tribesmen) to fall upon Harrapa. Emerging from the desert hills, he captured the city. He then defeated the Yubhuman counter attack and reached the northern walls of Yub’bhabhumi itself. The walled city managed to survive the assault on both sides of the river, but subsumed to siege and bribes.

It was after the final victory when a group of scholars and bronze smiths approached him with the news. “We’ve discovered a new formula for bronze” they said, “it makes bronze easier to cast and to form, and if we perfect it we can usher in a new age where every household can afford bronze tools and every soldier bronze armor!”

Elsewhere...

In a land known as Amorica, things are slowly changing. The Ancient Celtic migrations have swept through many years ago, bringing the original migration of Cytrians to Italy and Macedonians to Greece originally. However, when they swept through Gaul and settled Brittania, some decided that Amorica was good enough. Osismied during this time managed to organize above and beyond her neighbors. Developing the earliest records so far north of the Mediterranean, they wrote about the Celtic lifestyle, the many wars, and the planning of a new kind a war; a war of Conquest. And so civilization was begun like in so many other places, the stresses of governing people other than citizens.

The world is changing. The civilizing of the Hyuks revealed ever more uncivilized and resource rich peoples northward, blinking in the bright toarch of civilized warfare. Trade between Mesopotamia and the Middle East, and from there across Crete and to Italy, and from Mesopotamia down all the way to India, united all these regions with gossamer fibers of trade and war. The discovery of new alloys of bronze at Gyrid and at Dakinsa will slowly but surely lead to a new age. As the world tumbles into the crucible, we will sell whatever comes out... if the portal survives.

They just enjoy the opportunities of a new life the fertile valley gave them. They have yet to distinguish their unique culture.

Spoiler Diplomacy, a Region at a Time :

From Samnia To Sarkov
Just stop OK! Why did you invade us in the first place? Why? Our friends will help us defeat you once and for all!

From Lijuria to Sarkov
What is this that we hear, hypocrites!

From Ortun to Aramya
Personally, I'm more afraid of the Hykkite empire. At least you are also Levean. However, my people fear you, and your army, and I have to stand with my people.

From Illians to Greek States
Taxes on Black Sea Grain gotta go up. Sorry boys, pay up.

Really good update Terrance, though I am preparing a very special story for the men who betrayed King Sarklov II's direct orders...

@ Gem Hound
Sure

@ Others: TerrisH, Axum, General Olaf
Going to mini-update on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday to Catch China back up to flow and get Olaf get decent orders in about the Xiong, ally or fight, because for them there is no middle ground. So talk to me during this time so I can retcon you guys in.

@ southern King: Yes, yes it was. Stockholme didn't have NEARLY enough to overwhelm Ortun in one blow, and they kept missing the death blow (and yes, failed for a while.)

@Tycho: Don't be too hard. There was a giant wall. :D

, no not them. The warriors who continued to raid Ctyria... after I ordered them to stop.

Unfortunately for them, I have already devised thirty six ways of severe capital punishment.

All will be used.

The Illians are playing right into my hands.

Also, good update!

Terrance, just out of curiosity, laziness to look through the previous updates, and a possible upcoming story, what is the background behind that city state in modern day UAE/Oman?

It is the linchpin in the scant but growing Mesopotamia-India trade. It is about 75% native Semites, 10% Assorted Levean (mesopotamian) immigrants from Aramya and Ortun, 5% Rajite merchants who settled there, and 10% assorted other cultures.

Still relatively disorganized, mostly series of harbors and ports getting rich off resupplying trade vessels.

got it. I'll send you the location I want to start with, a bit of back ground, and a link tot he source.

electric, do what you want to do to them quickly, because their recent actions.. well, if you don't do something, I will.

link to the source might take a LONG time. post sreach only gose back to 2008. this was one of my first NES's in 2005-2006

Edit: and found it.
The Atyrian Empire shall rise once more. ^_^ and found two great old neses to read through.

Trade log of the Nile (for Axumite merchants):
Axum: Center of Trade on the Southern Nile, exports gold and emeralds. Always open to traders. Merchants in Axum have grown rich on trade, and the common people do not suffer, due to the wide availability of goods. The only major problem is Axum relies on wheat imports from the North due to the local agruiculture not supporting the population, however, king Zoskales seeks to change that by increasing agruicultural spending. Once minor problems are sorted out.

Export: Gold, Emeralds, all imported goods except wheat
Imports: Wheat, ivory, spices

The Southern People:
The far South is disunited, but Nontheless, we have secure trade partners there. In exchange for egyptian iron, copper and pottery, tribes trade ivory, tortoise shells and spices. These goods are to be sold to Egypt and Nubia in the North for maximum profit.
Imports: Iron, Copper, Pottery
Exports: Iivory, tortoise shells and spices

Nubia: Nubia is a constant military rival of Egypt, thus making this part of the Nile potentialy hazardous to trade. Nontheless, Southern Nubia is largely safe.
Exports: Pottery, wheat
Imports: Ivory, gold
Embargo(do not trade to them): Iron, due to agression against caravans bound to Egypt (applies only to certain city states, check with the buruea in the port of Axum for details)

Egypt:The most powerful nation on the Nile today with a strong military and great pyramids to declare its glory. Important trade hub and main wheat source.
Exports: Pottery, Wheat, Iron, Copper
Imports: Gold, Emeralds, Wheat, ivory, spices, tortoise shells
Embargo(do not trade to them): Weapons (embargo is likely temporary)

Libya: TRADE HAZARD: DO NOT ENTER
Local tribesmen known for raiding caravans, avoid.
Exports: Camels
Imports: Wheat
Embargo(do not trade to them):Iron, Weaons, Copper

Bedouin: Saharan peoples. Varry greatly.Check bureau for details, generaly the further from Axum and Egypt and closer to Lybia, the more dangerous.
Exports: Camels
Imports: Wheat

To Ctesiphod from Sarkov:
This war must stop; what is the price for peace?

Just one small problem. Nafer's Pyramid at Giza should be the largest ever (it is based on the true Great Pyramid of Giza). His son built northwards and somewhat smaller, no one will match his Pyramid ever.

For more info: The current dynasty is rather based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_dynasty_of_Egypt The fourth dynasty of Egypt While the one before was based on the third dynasty.

And for myself and MOD - for cities etc... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/17/Ancient_Egypt_map-en.svg
Kush thought is mostly Nubia in our game.

Also thanks to Google I found the NES Terish was speaking of: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=177812&page=32. I was strangely and happy surprised to find I played Egypt in that NES as well! And it did horribly different and wrong than in here :p Stories really do help apparently ;)

In Armorica
King Derfel of the kingdom of Osismied stood on his father's palisade as he thought deeply about how far they had come in only 50 years. He hoped that he could mirror or even do better than his father had. Cunneda the Great had died in the fighting of the defense of Koriosolited. The other celtic peoples scorned their progress until they fell to the spears of the Osismii. "Good morning my lord." Gwenhwyvach said to Derfel. "I think we should destroy the Riodned and Namneted. They are annoying and I want to see them destroyed. Would the gods be with us?" Derfel asked her.

"The gods would be split because those peoples have offered more conflict than we have but we have interested the gods. They want us and them to survive to see what happens." "Then I propose that we build a wall along our Eastern borders. It will keep them out of our lands. Our warriors will patrol the border while the spearmen will defend the workers as they build the wall." This wall would make it easier to defend our borders. General Merelan was listening in on the conversation. "I believe that we SHOULD raid our neighbors. We should send enough warriors to destroy the Riedoned and to raid a few of the villages of the Namneted. Offense is the best defense. Let us defend from them on their territory. We would start the construction of the wall at the main entrance and work North. Once they finished that and the soldiers were ready to attack the Namneted, we would send the armies to attack them and begin on the Southern half of the wall." "The gods will only approve with enough blood shed. You must kill many to please the Morrigan and the gods of battle. I suggest we do not move against Namneted and just continuously raid them. That would make the gods happier." "Okay then... the spearmen will defend the wall-builders and the warriors and curraghs will attack the Riedoned.
