Realism Invictus

Good ol' Julian calendar? That was the answer to an Encyclopedia Brown mystery once.

However most would appreciate it if you temporarily use the modified form of calendar instituted by Pope Gregory the Great.

I've always thought Civ should feature qanats as an improvement. This technology is incredibly significant, historically. They could come with Masonry and give +1 food/commerce on desert hills, desert bordering lakes, and desert rivers without floodplains on some maps, but they wouldn't receive upgrades with later technologies There could even be flavor art to represent the various styles of qanat around the world. You'd just need to find an artist.

For now they are already in as an UB for Berbers (foggara).

another idea for making deserts more useful could be an event that an underground source of water is discovered which would allow the building of an irrigation project. both the discovery of the water and the building of the irrigation project would be possible in modern era. Also, the irrigation project could affect multiple squares somehow. I have some ideas, which I will have to elaborate later cause I'm in a hurry now :)
an example of this is The Great Man Made River which was built in Libya under Gaddafi. Unfortunately, I fear that it might be destroyed due to recent event there.

I was also in this mood, and I downloaded the SVN version two weeks ago, and now I am in the YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY mood.

I really encourage everyone to do samewise and download the svn version. I thought it would be a nightmare in terms of installations and very loooooooooooooooooooog in running but it actually was very easy to install and it runs fast (even without the FPK creation). You wanna it for Christmas? why not have it now :D

Been trying to download the SVN version if only to test it

Found the thread on the RI forum about how to proceed, downloaded Tortoise, created a "realism" folder in the directory where all other mods are installed, etc etc but getting error message "can't create directory c:\program files\....\beyond the sword\mods\.svn access refused"

I guess I will have to wait

Hi all,

Not posted for about 3 years, but have been thoroughly enjoying playing Realism Invictus for the last few months -- MUCH better than ciV.

Decided to try the new version through SVN. Seem to have downloaded everything OK and into the right directory. If I start BTS normally, it shows up in the "Load a MOD" menu, but when I select it and continue I get a black screen then very quick CTD.

My machine is reasonably hi-spec -- quad core, 4GB RAM, decent graphics card etc and plays RI 3.01 (started through its own Icon) with no real problems.

I'm a player note a modder -- so probably doing somehting stupid. Anyone have nay pointers ?

For now my recommendation would be to just wait for 3.1 installer. It is coming very soon.

Oh perfect, I'll visit this thread in about 10 minutes then. :D

One minor thing, something which affects game play in no way, but why does the Panzer IV's turret move backwards when it fires? If that ever happened in real life I imagine it would be quite detrimental to the crew. Like I said, not a huge issue, just curiosity really.

Well, I didn't make that unit, but I was also not content with its quality and was actually meaning to replace it. Didn't make it to 3.1, though.

The Hungarian version of the Panzer IV, with it's side skirting and early camo, looks much better. Just take the symbol of the side and it would be perfect. The current German version reminds me of the very early Ausf F2, which was the very first model with the long barreled 75mm.

Speaking of Armor, are their any plans of putting tank destroyers/ assault guns in the game such as the Stug III or the ISU-122. There's even the modern Swedish S-Tank and German Raketenjagdpanzer series.

We considered tank destroyers, but felt it would be overcomplicating stuff. A player already has tons of different units at his disposal in the modern era.

As for the Panzer, I saw a nice one made for Civ 5, I'll just convert that.

When you add a new unit class, you always have to follow the same path:
- adding first a default unit
- adding civ specific units.

With the Tank Destroyers and Assault guns, we have a big problem: these units were built by a very small number of civs (Russia, UK, USA, Italia, Germany for sure). What do we do with the other civs ? What can be the default TD or AG ?
Because there is no good solution, we choose to not add these units. Note that we have the same problem with the first self propelled artillery/howitzer, such as the Wespe.

I use my own road and river graphics for various mods. I was just touching the rivers up a little more, and recoloring them for RI, and I thought you might like to include them. The road texture is identical to vanilla, but I edited the mipmaps so they don't fade into black lines when you zoom out.

Would you please send them my way? They look nice on screenshots.
