SGOTM 15 - Plastic Ducks

I'm playing.
Need advice here at turn 44: Can Vija warrior abandon the city safely or should it fortify?

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0085.jpg

The barbarian warrior won't enter the culture border since there's neither improvement nor unit adjacent, so yes, move the warrior to the destination as the plan.

ok. I proceed :)

hm now the purple scout has suicided to the warrior. Does it mean he can enter our borders now? :hmm:

Spoiler :

The situation is the same. Unless there's improvement or a unit adjacent to the barbarian, he will walk away. The reason that he is still nearby is because the Japanese scout happened to move to the adjacent tile last turn.

excellent. Just wanted to double check cause I read something like: barbarian getting in attack mode and entering borders anyway. I proceed.

Report for turn 42 - turn 50

We have found a hidden cow (hidden cow level? :hmm:), more gold and deer up north and copper in our BFC! :woohoo:
Warrior 2 in the north is threatened by a barb archer.

I did a mistake at turn 49 as I did not change the citizen of Bombay to work the gem. So Bombay will grow 1turn earlier while missing 6 gold :(

Stonehenge built far away on Turn 48.
Red Tokugawa has copper connected since turn 49, as advised by the military adviser.
Both Gawas are at 2 cities
No Hindu spread :(

Looks good. Could you upload the save?

Since you missed what I suggested in T49 (work on Gem), hence the beaker invested was 7B less than the plan, which could cause the tech to Writing being delayed by 1 turn. Fortunately it seems that the maintenance fee is 1g less than the test game.

Save uploaded.

Maintenance is
0.87 in Delhi
2.41 in Bombay
2.23 in Vijaaa

We also might have had a few bonus beakers researching BW due to the fact both Gawas had it prior to our research (both converted to Slavery in 2480)

Some samples of research speed:
On turn 46, we added 28 beakers researching BW, while our commerce was 22 >> 28=122%(22+1)
On turn 49, we added 31 beakers ...................., while our commerce was 24 >> 31=124%(24+1)

Adding the commerce advisor in my report.

All those mountain ranges are added for 2 reasons it seems:

1) Domination harder (who wants peaks in their BFC...)
2) Naval assaults longer (no forts trick)

Interesting map design.

The maintenance fee in the test game is 8g. From what we observed in last game, it's because of map type. I guess Bebekija used a Pangaea like map script.

On T49, the raw beaker is (31 + 1)=32B, hence the actual beaker increase in the tech bar should be 32*120% = 38, or 32*124% = 39, or 32*128%=40. Which one did you observed?:)

I'm not sure whether we also gain bonus in the test game.

The galleon bridge and Fort tricks are kind of buggy in my opinion, but a very highly skillful bug.:D

Those mountains make both domination and conquest being harder, they also make spreading of Hindu harder and hence AP victory and UN diplomatic victory as well. The only less affected victory is culture, how to deal with AI DOW is still a headache.

The thing I don't like is the big map of 1784 tiles and 9 AIs, which means 100+ cities.:(

Neil and Bebe are the same person. I knew it

+41 beakers from turn 48 to turn 49

Do you guys think we might be isolated with the both Gawas?
If it's the case, is an Engineering rush still optimal?

I'd like to send out one our 2 scout ASAP in order to try and go around Gawas borders before the trap closes. Do you think it could be worth the investment/risk of scouts dying?

If you look at the EP of Toku on T42, it was 115:142, which usually means he have met 3 AIs -- us, Ham, and an unknown AI. This can be easily confirmed if Bebekija still has the track of EP. The EP of Ham against us is also an odd number.

The fact of no other AI's scout also means that either they are too far away from us (less likely since 50 turns is long enough) or they are blocked by Toku and Ham's culture (it's likely the case). Therefore only spies can do the peaceful work. OTOH, if all AIs are Toku, then it's better not meet them before we are strong enough.

Here are the EP ratios at various dates :

Date -- 3600BC -- 3360BC -- 3200BC -- 3000BC -- 2800BC -- 2600BC
Toku ... 25/16 ..... 54/38 ..... 67/54 ..... 79/74 ..... 89/94 ..... 99/114
Hamm ... N/A ....... 15/2 ....... 35/2 ...... 60/2 ....... 85/2 ...... 110/2

My (uninformed so quite worthless) guess is that all AIs are Tokus except the owner of the holy buddhist who is probably a fast techer. Hence I agree with Duck that meeting them early would do us no good. So let's focus on our expansion and "diplo" () vs. those two.

Btw, :goodjob: soundjata !

hey guys, sorry that i am inactive. i am much busier with real life than i was the last few sgotm, and so i'm going to bow out of turnsets :(. i'll probably still lurk and maybe even one day make a strategic post, but it's better not to rely on me.

I've finally been able to open the live save and I have a few humble remarks :

- I don't like the odds of our Warrior vs. the Archer. He only has ~66% odds of survival. Maybe we should have him sit on the forested hill instead
- The second Deer + Gold site seems a bit far North, but the Gold will help compensate for the maintenance. It looks like it would make a suitable blocking city as well.
OTOH, the cow+stone+shared deer is quite interesting as well, mainly because of all the riverside tiles and forests. It doesn't bring up much commerce though.
- I think the Delhi worker should start improving the copper ASAP. Riverside grass copper beats a FP farm in almost every situation, and it only takes 4 turns to improve, so it will speed up the settler by at least 1 turn.
- I'm wondering if we shouldn't pay a little more attention to the land mass in the West. Since the beginning of the game, 2 forests have grown on the 4 hills we can see, which suggests lots of forests and no AIs (yet). Maybe there are some juicy spots there.
Of course, since we'd need Sailing to go take a look, this goes contrary to the Engineering bulb plan, so if we're really 100% sure this is the way we should go, then forget about it.

That's all for now, awaiting next PPP.... :scan:

I'll do the PPP up to Oracle tomorrow.

Basic objectives first:
- improve copper
- build a few axes
- settle northern gold city
- settle cow city
- chop oracle in Vija.

Tell me what you think about it.

Edit: that's right I am intrigued by the western landmass as well.
We'll know a little bit more about it once Bombay's border pop. May Hinduism spread quick :please:
I don't think we should divert from our "engineering T100" target though.
