Pre-SysNES2: Beta-testing and Submission

After Product is fixed, it seems that new products are a bit too common what with all the global factors. Staying ahead of the pack in 2 tech fields, having a 0.4 PSSR (the default in the current econ sheet), and having Free Market + Republic gives a 19% bonus to every single habitat.

I dunno, I think a hefty bonus is justified if you satisfy all those conditions (which isn't easy to do). I don't think many people even have Free Market and Republic together.

Edit: Yeah the only people with that combination are you and Alex.

I dunno, I think a hefty bonus is justified if you satisfy all those conditions (which isn't easy to do). I don't think many people even have Free Market and Republic together.

Those conditions aren't all that hard to satisfy (staying two techs ahead of the pack isn't at all hard since it seems specializing will have its niftiness; you also don't need to stay ahead of everyone, so you can get one or two trading buddies and profit even more off your tech). Most people may not start with Free Market + Republic, but they can be adopted, and more importantly, as the game goes on better options will appear.

But I mean, this kind of goes against the game in my opinion. Sprawling out quickly, building lots of barely-populated habitats, means you're practically guaranteed to have a constant stream of new products with a half-decent global bonus. That doesn't make all that much sense to me.

Also, with the v13 talent generation, spreading out untenably like this will also give you a pretty high talent advantage (who will gradually migrate from their birthplace into your one highly-populated habitat with a university). The trade good generation will also give you a minor compete advantage. Though Dis has said that talent generation is changed, so that should only be game-breaking in v13.

In regards to immigration, will there be any side-benefits of immigration aside from getting more pops? Like habitats with immigrants have better trade modifiers (easier to trade/communicate/"cultural affinity) with other planets/habitats/systems with that background?

Something that could be built immediately (by me), with Attribute restrictions still applying of course:

Guerrilla would actually notably compromise their Attack and Defense to little end. Considering Police Training, you can probably hire them out to exterminate other peoples' unrest problems as a counterinsurgency unit during downtime.

Plus how many people are going to have the moral strength to give up 40% of their yearly e to private citizens ;).

@alex: No

So there aren't any statistical benefits to possessing a diverse and multi-cultural benefits beyond what the economic and government system already offers?

So there aren't any statistical benefits to possessing a diverse and multi-cultural benefits beyond what the economic and government system already offers?

One might say having population and talents wanting to immigrate, and most NPCs being well disposed towards you is benefit enough :p. You also received innate policy modifiers from being open and welcoming if you consult the chart (those are all based on chosen traits with a little background tweaking).

@Symphony: you still need to pay the upkeeps on those freely received things. Just because the recruits come with their own super bodies doesn't mean the army gets out of having to give them the nutrient rich diet those super bodies require.

Also you don't have electromuscle free, you have the physical prowess modification, which isn't an army trait but instead boosts the base attack/defence in your policies section. Like most biotech stuff with cybernetic versions, its less straight out potent than the cybernetic equivalent but lower upkeep (or zero upkeep) and doesn't have problems with EW vulnerability.

On bonus init and attack/defence from policies, you just add that right in (the bonus attack/defence doesn't add to distant attack/defence). So that army is Actions 5, Init 9, Attack: 14/3 Defence 13/3

Ah, I've been reading the Illosians' cells because of how tight cell-spacing is. I'd recommend turning on cell borders in big gray fields.

On the plus side, that reduces Upkeep tremendously (to 7e) at little cost to effectiveness, so. Updated the entry to fit.

I AM.

To address noob's concerns about why talent/product generation is connected to p the way it is, think about the relative population densities of North America and Europe and Asia and then connect it to the rate of innovative companies/technologies that arise, and where.

Since its come up in PM discussions, here are a few points on the technology of the setting, to whit why there are still baseline humans running around with all these cyborg and biotech supermen threatening to replace them.

Principle to the idea is the concept of holistic synaptic memory; that memories, whilst associated and encoded with specific brain regions, are held by synaptic connections and microstructure weightings within those synaptic connections. Singularity fanboys, whose experience of information is coloured by the use of computers, envision drag-and-drop learning like moving files between computers, where the advanced human assimilates knowledge instantly. However with the idea of synaptic memory, this would require the physical adjustment of neurons, which would a) need physical connections to the trillions of synapse real time, for which there probably isn't room and waste heat from the process would cook the brain, and b) require a model of the brain that is effectively an exact representation - a model so complex it effectively is the brain. Personally I take quite a hard interpretation of holistic synaptic memory, and the SysNES universe has a very hard interpretation of it.

Thus despite any bits and pieces bolted onto it, the cyborg and biotech cortex will still have to learn things by direct experience, as well as assimilating gestalt or linear information fields through traditional brain regions. Any cool new mental toys they have is in part balanced out by the fact they have to learn to use them just as a baseline learns a skill or language (incidently this is partly why you have cybernetic 'races' who have a cultural milieu of certain devices, the rest of the reason being they have been genetically engineered for immunological compatibility with a certain class of cybernetic connectors).

The second reason for baselines being around, and even the majority, is the radiative bridge concept. All the advanced groups hive off in different directions, but remain partially connected to their origins, and certainly find baselines comprehensible. They'll be able to visit baseline environments, and have sections of their societies that baselines can dwell in. They all partially overlap with baselines, but rarely overlap with each other. Hence the available niches for baselines is always greater than for any one specialist group, contributing to baseline survivability and fecundity.

Thirdly is that changing oneself to be requiring less resources than a baseline nearly always involves some diminishment of capability, since you can't get something for nothing. Obviously hardly anyone goes for this option, so baseline societies are generally more resource efficient in common environments, leading to a great carpet of near-baseline humanity pocked with transhumans.

Fourthly is that there are some non-invasive ways to get more out of the near-baseline neocortex, like hypnotic education, synthetic languages and remote brain trawling, that allows a non modified society to operate at a very high level.

Radimir Tarkiny, Ambassador to the Csser’ian Confederacy, to Executor Langley, Csser’ian Standard Cycle 151

The situation has gone critical in the Csser’ian Sector. Chancellor Andrygiz’s government has fallen in all but name. Senator Cvorak now commands a un-precendented and overwhelming majority in the Csser’ian government. There exists a unanimous consensus amongst Csser’ian political circles in support for Cvorak. There have already been massive and spontaneous demonstrations throughout Csser’ian space demanding Andrygiz’s resignation and for their government to act against our government.

We do not believe that Cvorak will move against us militarily so quickly, but the threat of Csser’ian action might prompt others to follow their lead and turn against us. Considering the vast economic capabilities of the Csser’ian state and the influential position her society holds amongst many segments of the sector, we should move quickly and occupy their Core Worlds before her fleets return.
The threat of Csser’ian neutrality and economic sanctions would significantly undermine our sector-wide endeavors and would be much more detrimental than outright military hostility. I recommend regime change.

-------------

Did you see the report Chancellor?

It was quite painful, quite painful to know that he had just approved the dissemination of a clip from a data freighter which had documented the process - the process of the destruction of Datha System and the process of killing a Gaian world and the countless billions. How else could he describe it knowing that the blood of those billions were on his hands. He hadn’t struggled hard enough against the Apeilics and the War Party.

I saw the report Ambassador.

Representing my government, I must officially protest the emotional and frankly biased perspective of the news report involving the destruction of Datha System. My government asks that in you use your influence to stop the reports.

How could the Apeilics be so cold? To have slaughtered, no, committed genocide on Datha System and still be so dispassionate as to demand that the footage of the solar flare be restricted without blinking an eye? What had the war done to them?
What had the war done to them all?

Ambassador, I cannot in good conscience order the censorship of our media. The People have a right to know the actions of our…. erstwhile allies.

The Apeilic Government would not imagine dictating to the Csser’ian Confederacy the internal domestic policies she should pursue. It is simply the fact that such footage has an audience beyond the borders of the Confederacy and that such emotional footage could fan anti-Apeilic feelings throughout the entire sector.

That is beyond my ability to alter Ambassador. I am afraid there is nothing more to discuss.

They had moved quickly. Much more quickly than he had predicted or even imagined. In a few standard cycles, they had established supremacy over most of the Core Worlds. The financial exchanges on Phrilleaus, Adamer and Oriona had utterly collapsed. The media was already predicting the end of the Csser’ian Confederacy as an independent entity; the death of Datha System had heralded the re-enslavement of the Csser’ian People, this time under the Apeilic anti-matter boot!

The fleets were still in transit. It was unlikely they would make it before the Apeilics landed. So confident of their victory was that the Apeilics had made no moves to disarm or destroy planetary or orbital defenses. He had summoned all reserve duty planetary forces and had prepared to resist an invasion and occupation. Would he, Haymir Cvorak, be the last Chancellor of the Csser’ian Confederacy?

Chancellor Cvorak. This is Admiral Natalia Hiudra of the Apeilic Seventh Fleet. I am here to request your permission for my fleet to land ground forces to ensure the safety and stability of the upcoming elections.

I am unaware of any upcoming elections or requests for Apeilic supervision.

Grant our request or I shall have no choice but to declare the Confederacy an active hostile against my fleet and proceed with the destruction and bombardment of your planetary and orbital infrastructure.

Yours is not a request but an ultimatum I cannot in good conscience refuse.

You have had your time Chancellor. To preserve the peace and stability of the Sector, this must be done.

He had given in. Given in to ensure the continued vitality of Csser’ian society as a functional entity in this new post-Datha world. He had given the order; the order to disarm and not oppose the Apeilic “landings”. It had gone unheeded. Millions had taken to the streets to protest the Apeilic invasion. Those protests had turned violent. Tens of thousands had already been killed in clashes with the Apeilic military. The planetary defense forces on various worlds were engaging the Apeilics in the cities. Blood ran in the streets.

There was nothing he could do. He had been stripped of his post by an extra-constitutional council assembled by the Apeilics. His good friend Andrygiz had been appointed interim Chancellor by Admiral Hiudra. The ever-colorful Csser’ian news and media centers had been ordered to shut down until a full inquiry had been launched into supposed Dathic conspiracies. He toyed with his gun. Perhaps this was fate. He held it and admired its wooden beauty. A priceless antique from beyond a time before recollection, this “Colt” had been in his family for generations. His ancestor had taken it from a Weipozny general during the Revolution. He steeled himself and prepared for the end.

"Chancellor! The Fleets! The Fleets have arrived!"

----------------

Executor Sirici to Arbiter Monti, Csser’ian Standard Cycle 165

As per your recommendation, Ambassador Radimir Tarkiny has been fired from their posts for gross incompetence. Likewise, Admiral Natalia Hiundra has been charged with gross incompetence as well as treason and is facing a court-martial.

As I communicated to you previously, Ambassador Tarkiny’s radical and inflammatory reports grossly overplayed the consequences of the fall of the Andrygiz Government in the Csser’ian Sector. Despite the spontaneous outrage expressed by a vast segment of Csser’ian society, fundamentally they do not have enough organizational ability to organize an alternative coalition against us. The Csser’ian Confederacy is fundamentally a society of shopkeepers, financiers, political theorists, rabble-rousers and immigrants – not politicians or generals.

The actions of Executor Langley were incomprehensible. It is impossible to understand why he authorized Ambassador Tarkiny and Admiral Hiundra’s actions; it is difficult to understand how he believed a regime change in one of our staunchest and most influential allies was possible and if it was even in our favor. In the aftermath of the tragedy in Datha System, we needed to take on further responsibilities in the Sector and to ensure the cooperation of our varied coalition partners with us.

Regime change in the Csser’ian Confederacy would have undeniably undermined all of that. The arrival of the Csser’ian Fleets along with the combined military forces of Xion Corporation, the Quajir Hegemony and the Martisk Republic showcases our fragile position in the post-war environment. The combined forces of those four respective sectors commanded an overwhelming majority over our Seventh Fleet.

The entire Csser’ian sector now hangs at the whim of Chancellor Cvorak. Without the vast shipping and financial networks of the Csser’ian Confederacy, any attempts to restore pre-war conditions will be extremely complicated. I recommend that we make immediate amends and possibly even offering to facilitate emigration for discontented parties from the Confederacy to one of the new frontier regions; possibly Alnitah?

So I’ve finally read through SysNES I. War is very bad I noticed.

The base s cost for getting a tech field from 9 to 10 is almost 11k (the total amount of s produced during all of SysNES 1) and the base cost from 4 to 5 is already 800. Isn’t that a little much?

Has the battle calculator changed the ship to-hit combat calculations between v12 and v13? I swear I remember seeing a noticeable difference around 230 int, but I didn’t write it down so it may’ve just been the insomnia.

I don’t know how trade’s changed in the newest version of the econ rules, but in v12 Data Trading seems to be overly beneficial to s production. I noticed this while messing with the “Market” section of the ExampleCiv section. I’m not entirely sure what the “Data Market” entry means exactly, but increasing its value leads to huge boosts in s production.
If “Data Market” keeps track of how many data market segments you control, then it’s fairly overpowered. If it doesn’t go quite up to 5, then maybe it’s more balanced. Either way, please ignore my ravings of doom and leave it unnerfed, because I rather like it this strong :).

Burst Drives suck for large warships. Enjoy that extra 6 Dodge. Peace.

(Will be cheaper than the original and even more nimble if the Comps are dumped.)

I see a brother piling on Burst Drives, I help him out. It just wouldn't be fair otherwise.
