If Alaska were the sole instigator of this war, then we certainly would have been more active in preventing the war. However, that is not the case. California has done just as much, if not more, to set the stage for this whole bloodbath. Dealing with two extremely stubborn heads does not make for reasonable peace talks. Hopefully both sides have been humbled and will be more open to talks.

If you think the St. Lawrence Alliance would have been able to apply pressure to any party, you're dead wrong. Our alliance's purpose is to enforce our armed neutrality in this conflict, that's it. However, Quebec finds itself more and more inclined to intervene with each passing day.

If the SLA was formed to keep its neutrality why is it speaking up now? Those are nothing but excuses with no solid ground to stand on. It is Alaska who crossed over 5000 kilometers and maintained a ridiculously improbable supply chain to invade Panama and it was Alaska who issued the ultimatum and appeared to be the director of the FAA. California and Chernorussiya were more than willing to talk and compromise. The FAA would have none of it. Then terrorist attacks are launched across our countries with unmistakeable signs of FAA involvement and most of it Alaskan. So here we are, yet at another critical hour and the members of the FAA are nowhere to be heard or seen for peace talks.

Cascadia lies ruined because of a megalomaniac. Alaskan oil fields in flames and its people on the brink of starvation. The price of oil shooting up into the sky like our ballistic missiles. Texas and Deseret will feel our complete arsenal this year if they do not come to their senses and pull back from California.

The St. Lawrence Alliance isn't speaking up, Quebec is speaking up. Just because we are in the alliance doesn't mean we speak for it. Quebec is a nation which has taken damage from the war and we have always voiced our concern as an independent state. However, it seems both the Alaskans and Californians are still too hotheaded to try and work things out (doesn't help that you're fanning the flames). Maybe next year, after even more brutal fighting, peace talks might begin. We'll focus on running damage control to minimize our losses.

Excuse me? "Southern Rebelling States?" We have existed as a sovereign and independent nation since the end of the dark times. You will treat us with respect, just as we treat you with respect.

This Missouri issue will be settled legitimately and peacefully, with your cooperation. Signing an armistice to end the current war will take us one step in that direction.

President Don Wyatt smiled, despite setbacks in the north his Texans demolished Las Vegas and pushed deep into the Canyon passes in the southern Seirra Nevadas. Barstow looks to fall within days if not a week, Wyatt smiled, after that the mighty city of Los Angeles, the prized port city of the south Pacific. Already the proud city suffers daily bombing runs and the lucrative port sees little shipping traffic, mostly because nobody risks sending ships to war zones but Texan submarines continue to prowl the area sinking any ship they see in the region.

Wyatt looks at his Generals and the Captains on liaison from Rio Grande who have reported that the Mexican front is finally stabilized with somewhat equal ground gained and lost... though Wyatt was furious Texan land was lost... even if was barren inhospitable desert land infested with poisonous snakes and coyotes. He needs to do something about that front and quick. He motioned for the Rio Grande Captains and gave them an official letter to forward to their Commanding officers. The Captains saluted and left the office, leaving Wyatt with one of his Generals, next to the General an aide was busy setting up computer system.

"Mr. President, I have brought you pictures taken from cameras in our arsenal, you will see heavy fighting around Las Vegas, see Aerial combat and bombing runs, you will see the effectiveness of your submarines and the power of your Navy." The General turned to his aide who had finished the last touches and stood by ready for the commands. The General nodded, the aide clicked a button.

Sir we believe some highly artistic troops placed this sign found approximately 10 miles behind the front lines in Barstow as a means of raising morale for reinforcing troops entering the battle.

Wyatt stares in disbelief, "Las Vegas was a terrible battle and it was unfortunate the city was razed in the end." Wyatt shakes his head and motions for the General to continue.
The General replies, "The next set of pictures are of the Battle for Barstow." The Aide pushes the button.

The Battle for Barstow is a grueling affair in which tons of dust and dirt is kicked up.


An APC races to the front lines to drop off troops at a critical point in the line.

Wyatt sighed, he was proud of his troops, they showed true Texan spirit and determination, but did the body count have to be so damned high. Wyatt rubbed his temples as the General moved on to the Air War.

President Wyatt chuckles, "I love that first picture, what squadron is that? I would love to meet them." The General nodded to his aide who promptly made a note. The General replies, "We will arrange it, now we will show pictures of our naval campaigns."

The T.N.S Texas fires a torpedo at a Californian ship. The T.N.S Oklahoma that took the picture was lost 2 weeks later to a Californian destroyer, Texas's only Submarine fatality.

Texan navy destroyers, T.N.S San Antonio and T.N.S Austin square off against the USS New York and a smattering of gun boats off Norfolk Virginia. USS New York was sunk and T.N.S Austin was so critically damaged that it was towed back to Galveston.


The escort that saw the safe arrival of the T.N.S Austin into Galveston Bay, the convoy included some ships from Rio Grande.

Wyatt smiled, he never expected his navy to dominate so readily... though he wished the USA would send their fleet out and meet his ships in combat but that is to be expected of cowards. He will simply starve the USA into submission with his navy. He stood up and shook the Generals hand, "Congratulations on a job well done this year. I hope to see further success next year."

The General saluted and ordered his aide to clean up, after 5 minutes both men were gone and Wyatt stood in his office in Dallas and stared at the horizon in deep thought.

Richmond, Virginia

Representative Dominic "Dom" Draper adjusted his fedora as he stepped outside into the bright, crisp afternoon. As head of the House Corporate Relations Committee, he is widely considered the chief economic mind of the Dixie Government. While his duties mainly pertain the macroeconomic perspective, he also deals extensively in specific microeconomic situations.

Today, he was heading to an exclusive meeting with the President concerning the recent economic downturn and its relation to the current war on the continent.

The helicopter sat about fifty yards away, the rotary engines already engaged. Before he could board, however, he needed to oblige the news crew who has gathered between him and the aircraft.

"Representative!" a young reporter waved her hand in the air. "Kessenger News. We'll keep it short, I promise." She motioned to the crew, who turned on their camera equipment. Representative Draper posed for the cameras before turning to back to the reporter.

"This is Kelly Pinkston with Kessenger News. I'm here today with Representative Dominic Draper, head of the House Corporate Relations Committee. Mr. Representative, a lot of fuss has been made about the current economic situation, and its relation to the general war in North America. How will the government work with corporate interests in reversing the current economic losses?"

"Well," Draper began, "we've been considering several options, each varying in extremity. There are a few paths we can take. I've collected my plan, the President has his, and the corporate interests have their opinions as well. I can't give you specifics now, but I'm expecting a new policy announcement in the immediate future."

The reporter nodded. "We'd appreciate that. Speaking of the war, there have been significant questions raised concerning Dixie's ability to remain outside a war that ravages all our neighbors, especially with the downturn the conflict has caused. What have you witnessed in that regard?"

Draper shook his head. "I'm a businessman, not a diplomat. Foreign policy is not my forte. I'm focusing on the economic picture only."

"Mr. Representative, one of the chief expeditures of the Dixie government last year was the Sparrow interceptor program, a joint venture with the Rosshome Aeronautics Corporation. Is this spending a result of the current war? How does that investment fit into the current economic picture?"

Draper answered quickly. "The Sparrow program was initiated long before war clouds even appeared on the horizon. We were serving our contractual obligations with Rosshome Aeronautics and thus it should not be interpreted as any distinct declaration of future Dixie foreign policy."

He turned towards the helicopter. "I really should be going," he told the reporter bluntly, taking a step towards the helicopter.

"One last question, please!" the reporter said quickly. "Yesterday the Vice President was admitted to Richmond General Hospital with heart problems. Is he doing well?"

Draper nodded. "I visited him in the hospital. He's feeling good. It's a complication of an aircraft accident a few years ago. His life isn't in danger."

The reporter thanked him. Turning back to the camera, she said, "We're keeping the Vice President in our thoughts and prayers. This is Kelly Pinkston, with Kessenger News. Back to you, Ben."

A black screen on the television. It slowly vanishes, and a man smartly dressed appears.

Spokesman: Ladies and Gentlemen, His Majesty, King Alfonso the Fourteenth of Spain, will speak to you in a few moments.

The screen goes black again, and the Marcha Real de Granaderos, Spain's national anthem, sounds in the background as several letters appear...


The letters vanish and the screen slowly gains colour. Another man appears, smartly dressed, and sitting down behind a desk: he is the King of Spain, Alfonso.

King Alfonso XIV: Spaniards, my dear countrymen. I stand here, before all of you, in order to do one great sacrifice for the good of the nation. You all know of the division suffered by our country, after the Plague destroyed the world as we knew it. Unfortunately, when we tried to restore order to the rest of Spain, our presence was rejected by the people of the Basque Country, of Andalusia and of what is now Portugal. And I know the heart of every Spaniard bled because of that rejection.

The camera position changes, and now it shows the king, as well as a photograph of the Royal Family.

King Alfonso XIV: Last year, the people of Andalusia gave a step forward, a step towards greatness. A step towards the final union of all of Iberia under the same flag, and one we hope the Portuguese and the Basque people will be brave enough to give soon. They chose a government led by the Iberian Unionist Party, a government formed by people who know that Andalusia's path to greatness lies next to Spain's, and thus, with the approval and support of the Andalusians, they communicated their intention to vote in favour of such a move. But there was still a problem, in that Andalusia was still led by King Aguirre, a man of strong character and good heart, who was not sure of what he should do.

In these last days, both of us, as well as several members of the Spanish and Andalusian governments, have met and spoken, and we have finally reached a choice. One that all of us know will be hard, but that we will do for the good of Spain.

In exactly one week, both King Aguirre of Andalusia and myself will abdicate our crowns into the persons of our heirs, Prince of Asturias Carlos and Princess of Córdoba Aurora. The two of them will, in this next month of August, marry, and they will become the King and Queen of a Spain that is not completely united, but is one step nearer to the union of all the people of Iberia under one flag, on one land, where all of us will not be afraid to call each other "brother" and "sister", for that is what we will be, brothers and sisters, finally living together and in peace.

The camera view changes again, and now it shows just the king behind his desk.

King Alfonso XIV: Spaniards, with these, my last words to you as your King, I ask you not to become sad, because you are losing a king, but happy, because you are gaining one, a new king that is more than ready to face the trials of the future, and a queen that is his perfect match. I bless both Carlos and Aurora, the future King and Queen of Spain, from the depths of my heart, and I ask you to do the same, and to support those that will symbolize the union of Spain and Andalusia.

Good night, and may Spain become a great nation again.

Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean is the third largest formal province in Quebec. It is also the smallest of the three frontier provinces. Most of the province's population resides in cities and farming communities around Lac-Saint-Jean and on the Saguenay River. The southern portions of the province are considered to be part of the national heartland.

The province of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean has been one of the provinces benefiting the most from the Sagamie-Nord Métamorphose. Cities like Saguenay and Alma have swollen with people wishing to cash in on the industrial growth. Land-based transport networks moving raw materials south end in this growing industrial center, which boasts most of the country's mineral and metal refineries as well as a growing number of steel mills. Further to the west, around Lac-Saint-Jean, agriculture and forestry control the local economy, although they are clearly in the shadow of heavier industries downriver. In the north, forests and marshlands, which dominate the landscape, are dotted with many mines, logging camps, and farms. Industry is extremely important in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, but there is much more to the province than just mines and money.

Saguenay, the province's capital and largest city, is a regional entertainment destination, much like Laurentides. People from across the country, and tourists from across the world, visit Saguenay for cruises to villages on the Saguenay Fjord. From these villages, one can stay at small hotels and bed and breakfasts to thoroughly enjoy the quiet, peaceful fjordlands. Tourists are also offered tours in the best whale watching waters and the southern most habitat for Beluga whales. So cherished are the Belugas that the fjord, the whales' preferred stomping ground, is off limits to most commercial maritime traffic in order to protect the pods from injury. Saguenay is also the home to the Nordiques, one of the original six teams in the FCHG (Fédération Continental de Hockey sur Glace), who are well on their way to winning the coveted Trudeau Cup this year.

It was a normal evening in the Franco-German Empire. People were sitting in their houses and watching their television. The many different channels had a nice variety of shows, the government channel had a program on the different punishments given to rebels, no one was really watching that...

Around 21:13 channels were beginning to turn black. Within moments all of the domestic channels disappeared from the screen. A few moments later the international channels also stopped. Television was shut down, those who checked the radio, found that it is shut down as well. At 21:17 all channels returned with the same picture. A darkened chair with a person shape on it.

The person begun to talk, it had a feminine calm voice.
"Good evening good citizens of the Franco-German Empire. I am sorry to interrupt your usual program line, but it is indeed time you will all know of us.
I am Ms. Pearl of the Shadow Cabinet. You probably have read about us some lies in the government newspaper and heard of our demands in the free media.
It is simple. We demand freedom, not only for us, but for every citizens of the empire. We demand elections and democracy, and I believe, that every single one of you watching, wishes the same.
Yes, it is a risky business to demand from Pierre Breland's military regime who would kill all of his people before letting his power slip.
Yet the already lost. The people are where power comes from and he forgot that.
Soon every citizen will be put in a need to make a choice. Join those who demand freedom, or remain with the warlike destroyed of our nation. Once we were most powerful, now he has made us weak and in danger.

Seconds later all channels returned to their usual programming. The game was on.
