TerraNES: The Civil Experiment

Hey, I sent this for this NES's first organization, and I realize I should post it in public.

The Iron Lances
Purpose: Spreading and defending The Faith
Economy: 4ep Per Turn/2 Banked (Donation/Tithes/Land)=3/0/1
Organization: Lances
Assets: Head Quarters (Nessos, Nesfrenks), Grand Temple (Spire, Vahshallah), Temples (loads of places in spoilers)
Personnel: 4 Iron Lancers (2.5), 2 Missionaries,

Your religion is The Faith, the Faith is summarized here.
Your economy is what you get to spend every turn, like normal. Organizations, however, have their own way of getting income. Instead of Cities/Land/Trade, they get it via Donations/Tithes/Land
Donations are average one-time donations by the faithful, usually by the rich.
Tithes are long-term donations by religious organizations established tax-style. it is paid mostly by the poor.
Land are lands that you rule directly or indirectly which you get income from. If you own enough, you can reorganize into a state to get more income, but lose benefits of being an Organization.

These benefits are best summarized by inherently large confidence and strong culture established for singular or set purposes.

Organization styles affect how it is organized. Of course, there are many names for similiar things, but once named I will try to make them distinct. You can name it whatever and organize it whatever.
Assets are physical things you own.
Personnel are dudes loyal to you. As of now, you have 4 Iron Lance Units.

Of course, you would want to achieve your purpose, but then there are also lots of other things to gain as an organization. ;).

---------------------------

As of now, the main area which the Iron Prophet has seen to spread or defend the Faith is the Sarkish Confederacy-Tuscany area on the map. Other areas are Kentus (on Brittania) Hamburg (near Vahshallah) and Cytria (Lombardy).

The Iron Lances as an organization was long ago attracting fanatical elements of the Faith. Recently, they safeguard the results of the Conference in Spire-namely various peace treaties, defensive pacts and such.

Tycho is the player that formed the Iron Lances. Sadly, it has outgrown him.

Here are some writings for the Iron lances.

to Levantine League:
I have not heard from you yet. My God-king has sent me with numbers this time. We wish to hire you as our naval ally, for 5 economic points a turn. I believe that should cover your naval expenses and any losses you may feel.
Please consider my offer, I would hate to return to my God-king with bad news.

to Kush:
You have not returned our calls. Prepare to be destroyed.

to Nubia:
Our forces are at Aswan by now, they will soon cross the border. Which brings me to consider things. Nubia has weakened in the past years while Kush has grown strong. In order to maintain the peace over this lands Egypt may have to leave a constant garrison. It brings my to sound a suggestion. Egypt will build a set of fortresses along the Nile and Nubia (and perhaps Kush) to help protect the lands. In return the Nubian King will marry his daughter to my heir and give him a son. That son will be the heir of the thrones of Egypt and Nubia after your current heir. What do you think?

The Administrator slid smoothly off the top of his horse and approached his aide, Laurance, who greeted him with a, "Excellent to see you back at camp sir."

"Excellent to have made it back from Damascus, they're still trying to get the piles of hay out of the streets and into the granaries. It's a wonder the whole city didn't burn down the way they were panicking."

"Damascus has never trusted Hyak, sir, it was to be expected. And all that tinder would never have been in the streets if you trusted them."

"Any news of the camp?" the Administrator asks as he walks towards his tent.

"There is a visitor waiting for you."

"Who?"

"An emissary. He wants to hire our fleet."

The Administrator his head to the side, "The whole thing? For what?"

"He's offering good money."

A merchantile grin steals across the Administrator's face, "The business of the League."

"Indeed."

"We will have to know more. What does he intend to use the ships for? How many ships does his King require?" The Administrator stops, and changes course, avoiding his tent. Out to the altars, yes, now seems the time for a good prayer.

"They call him God-King, sir."

"Well then be sure that you are diplomatic about it when you ask the emissary for more information and ask him to return with it later. You do know that I've been handling all of this diplomacy in Damascus, and I don't have the patience to be properly cordial with our guest. Besides which, if the God King wants his business arranged by lackey then I don't see why the Administrator of the Levantine League shouldn't have the same right. No, men do not turn to dust at the sight of me, but I lead a nation of free men and I am too damned tired right now."

"Of course, sir, I shall clear your tent. Perhaps it will give you some peace to see to the men. Their training is coming along quite well, I dare say Hector is getting to be one of the better Spearmen in all of Levea."

"Ahh, Laurance, you do always know how to cheer my weary heart. Thank you for this."

"Do not thank me, sir. You speak wisdom, if the God King has his lackeys handle his business then why should the leader of the League not have the same luxury. We are a free people, true, but the dignity of the League is the Shield that keeps us so. And although we are too wise to think a man a god, our leader should stand as equal, at least, to the leaders of nations of fools."

The Administrator laughs, "Please refrain from mentioning any of that when you are speaking to this emissary."

Laurance smiles, "Of course, sir. The business of the League."

@Terrance: Where's mah school?

"Amazingly wonderful!" The Egyptian diplomat's smile almost was wider than his face. He knew the rules of conducting diplomacy in the name of his master. "I will await your diplomat with more details as soon as one is chosen to speak to me!". The rules are clear. A diplomat of Egypt must always wear a smile. Constantly. He must look as if euphoria strikes him at every moment of his life. After all, he is the direct tongue and lips of the God-king himself when he does diplomacy in his name, if that is not euphoria, than what else could be?

The rules for a diplomat are not hard. You must speak whatever the God-king allows, you can only know what you have been told, and you must do all you can to bring a positive answer, or at the least, a neutral one. Negativity for a diplomat is bad. A diplomat must smile at all times, for others would look at him better if he seemed happy. The troubles of the day should not be on his mind when he speaks to one of another nation. The punishment for being caught not smiling without conducting diplomacy for the God-king is the removal of the lips and tongue, he has allowed you be his, you failed, you must pay with yours. And always be sure that either the gods or spies of the God-king watch over you.

The orders were simple. The God-king looked at the great sea and wanted to know how much changed since the days of the Anorian Empire. The Levant sure changed greatly, now united under a single league, at least on the outside. Yet Tother, after being taught well by the priests, was somewhat of a scholar. He wanted to hear what has happened outside of Egypt during those dark times. He knew of the Sardican Empire, but knew nothing of their cities and lands. He heard of the Zrilist madmen, but wanted to hear of their volcano from first eye witnesses. Most of all he wanted to see what have come to be of the kingdom of Thloyrn. Once they were great merchants, yet their ships have not passed for some time now. And how would a God-king, one chosen by the many gods to rule, would conduct such exploration if not by using the most magnificent and powerful navy in the world? Yet that navy belonged to the Levantine League, but that league highest care was... money and money Tother had in plentiful.

to The Levantine League:
Ah. More details! Of course! It is not a secret that my God-king Tother has an interest in the wide world. He wishes to send scouts across the whole world, including the far away lands, those only accessible by sea. He wishes to send an Egyptian group of Elites to all corners of the great sea and learn of the wonders that exist out there. He wishes to see why Thloyrn merchants have ceased arriving at his ports. Why Sardican merchants are fewer than ever. Even Ctesiphod merchants are come less and less. What is going on in the far away lands beyond the sea is what he would like to see through his Elites eyes.
His interest is even greater than that, were he to find lands worthy of controlling, the God-king ordered troops to join you and the Elites in the mission to take over such lands in his name.

And so I am left to ask, would you agree?

The Ambassador to Thebes

Diplomats in the Levantine League were cut from a different cloth.

Councilor Issac was charged again with a favor to the Administrator, enclosed with the remaining funding for the Drydocks was a request that he find in the Temple of Mundo an appropriate Ambassador to be sent to Thebes.

Portan had been with the priesthood of Mundo for decades, and was not schooled by books of the nature of political maneuvering, Issac had watched Portan scheme and work his way to a position of high regard at the Temple. This was the man that Issac chose for the Administrator.

The other Councilors laughed, and called him a tool of the Administration, to which he often replied, "You have not met my son in law, have you?"

And it was true, with the help of Issac Tur had completed the rites of initiation into the order of Resurus, and was becoming an influential man in his own right. Issac doted on his grandchildren and they adored him, and even spoke to a Priest of Ius named Amos to offer any money he could to find the truth when Tur's poor father was targeted by assassins.

And Issac had grown ever closer to the Administrator as he grew closer to his new son.

So, when there was need of an ambassador to help teach the ways of the waves to the people of Egypt Issac received a note from the Administrator and found the most conniving, silver tongued man of his temple. That man was Portan.

"Are you familiar with Thebes?" Issac asked the man, as they stood in the Temple and watched the sun set across Mundo's domain far to the West.

Portan laughed, "I've always heard that the power of the King is stolen from the people."

"And a free man is the only type worth being," Issac smiles, "Do not forget that I too live in Tyre and know the virtues of the League. But I meant only if you knew specific things about the Egyptians."

"Well," Portan smiles, "If a King robs the freedom of his people to claim his power then I imagine a God King rapes and plunders the fields as he sees fit."

"We are not here to talk of morality, Portan. We are here to talk of politics."

"And so, I confess that I do not speak their language."

Issac laughs, "That is probably for the best, Portan, if the Administrator sends you to their lands I doubt they would appreciate your opinions. We do, however, need a man who can orchestrate large amounts of business, someone who won't cower to their rituals but who has the good sense not to start trouble over it. A translator can be found."

"Well, that's nice. If a man must be exiled it's hardly fair to exile him alone."

"Portan, Portan. This is not an exile, this is a holy mission. The business of the League, the call of Mundo. When you return you will return a hero."

"If," Portan replies, "If I return."

From: The Levantine League

We are willing to explore on your behalf, if this situation of "lands worth claiming" should happen we will discuss that possibility when it occurs, but the sailors of The League would be glad to seek out new and revive old trading passages with you. The man carrying this note will serve as my ambassador to specify where we shall explore and how the mechanics of individual journeys will be attended to he is qualified to answer any questions you may have about boat construction or sailing. Although he is a Tyrian I am assured that he shall be on his best behavior.

Considering giving up on Vahlshallah and going with the Iron Lances... though I am wondering, Terrance, where do their loyalties lay right now? And if I donate more money to them, will they side with me more often than not?

Harish's smile continued. In his eyes a little fear could be seen, how come the league has not already answered yes of course we will do anything the greatest man in the world asks for. Returning with bad news may not be to his best.

A man came from the league, apparently named Portan. He was carrying a letter. Simple words. Yet, not so simple. A yes would have been fine just as much. And a translator? Harish could speak Phoenician! Why would they need a translator? Ah to start an embassy in Thebes. Wonderful news, but the answer still slipped away, no yes of course came.

Portan seemed somewhat rude to Harish, but he couldn't care less. As long as to the God-king himself he would behave, all the rest is unimportant.

"Ah yes. The letter. I will give you my son Harish III to help you find the way to Thebes. Please do not speak Diplomacy with my son for he is not a Diplomat by the order of the God-king. Not yet in any case."

to The Levantine League:
from Embassy
Wonderful, Wonderful! I will send your man to Thebes as ambassador to discuss deeper details. I have been ordered to remain here and begin an official embassy for the empire! if you need anything from Egypt, just come to me.

from Thebes
You are no longer among Diplomats. Here the greatest of Egypt, second only to the might God-King reside. I do not understand what details you do not understand. The God-King needs a navy, you have a navy, he would like to hire it to do whatever he wishes as long as the price covers it. He wishes first to send a voyage to Thloyrn to see what they no longer arrive at the ports of the Levant and Egypt, I assumed you felt they are missing for some time. He received an Omen from Osiris that something terribly wrong has been done there. He wishes to understand what it is, and defeat the lunatics who may have taken over. Some religious loons, not much more. He wants the Island of Creta to make a new Nomarch of the sea so his future grand navy will actually be good for something. He also wishes to contact the Egyptian settlers of Cypriot and the Katanic Coast.
So he needs your navy to do his bidding, he even offered a price, something we both know he did not have to do.

And so we get our newest Minigame: What kind of people do you send as ambassadors? Does your leader personally check out their neighbors mano a mano, or do they send a screen of subordinates? Is diplomacy centralized, or run by whichever lord is closest to the border? How do they think, what do they know or allowed to know, and what formalities do they present?

Considering giving up on Vahlshallah and going with the Iron Lances... though I am wondering, Terrance, where do their loyalties lay right now? And if I donate more money to them, will they side with me more often than not?

1) They lay specifically to the Faith Itself, although they tend to sway to Vahshallah and Nesfrenks due to the placements of their capitals.
2) Yeah, but you got to be faithful enough as well to sway them.

The specific reason they split is the focus of Vahshallah on the "slow but steady, do not make enemies like last time" while the "Bronze Lances" not only collected Vahshallite radicals, but also men from Buertgang and the Frenks as well.

to Nubia:
Oh great Nubian king! I am the God-king's personal vizier, Methusaleh of Thebes. He have sent me personally to speak to you. It was because of your aid for Egyptian unification the Kush raised forces and came successfully upon you. It was because of your aid to our grand empire. And my God-King feels that aid should be sent at once. Already Egyptian forces are marching south with men and supplies for your state. Do not accept anything the Kuhorsehockyes send you, they will soon die.

to Kush:
I am Gevet of Thebes, a diplomat of the God-King of Egypt. I have been sending baring orders from the God-King. Halt your invasion and retreat into your wild lands. Pay for the damage you have caused a sum equal to 50,000 grain weights (5 economy points). If these two demands are not met by the time the God-king and his armies reach, your state will be annihilated... Do you feel lucky?

From Nubia
Many thanks. We will stand firm!

To Nubia
From Kush

From Nubia-Well suck this, because Egypt is comming to help you
From Kush- Well, I can cut off your pharoh's head here before your fancy friend of the north, pay up

From Kush-Slick-*THUMP* Ah well. I'm fine with the head anyway. It can go on my mantlepiece.

To Egypt
From Kush

We will pay these damages and remove our armies from Napata. We made their men squeel like girls for aiding our bitter enemies, the Severi, and go the revenge we wanted. Here, take it all, and give my respects to the God-King.

Unsure if I missed it or not, but who won the marriage and the flag minigames?

@ Gemhound- Luck of the draw/memory. Very very sorry.

Also, it was very very long and I am very sorry to say, I only just recently (i.e. after the update) did I read teh entire thing and enjoyed its subtleties.

AT ALL: I MAKE LOADS OF MISTAKES.

Please reveal them in public, so that all may know of my ineptitude and search ever harder for their own checks.

1. Tambien- Concise and crazy, your marriage submission somehow hit the spot.
2. Luckymoose: God, I refuse to give it to Lucky for his one liner, simply because it gave me a nightmare. A wet one too. *shudder*
3. Tycho-Your consisness is up there, and your cultural stretch contended well for the top spots but were edged out. You got 2nd for crazy, and that nomination let your win 3rd.

So what do they win?

POPULATION GROWTH- INITIATE VIAGRA SEQUENCE.

Second step; more food!

I'm also interested to see what the populations of our nations are like... since I have a mainly agrarian-city based society, I wonder if the population has hit a high level yet?
