SGOTM 15 - Plastic Ducks

I think we don't need 100% EP slider this turn, just make sure it's enough to see HC/Mansa's current tech. If it's Banking, then we can invest more, otherwise, better to save more cash to complete Banking ourselves.

Everything went as planned!

Traded to HC: Whale+Marble+Stone for his 2 resources + 11gpt
Traded to Shaka: Deer for 8 gpt.

We get a GE for our efforts, we can trigger a GA now and research banking in 2~3 turns.
Spoiler :

Cyrus's stack is gone...
Spoiler :

Hatty is now Friendly at +12
Spoiler :

I waited a long time for this!
Spoiler :

The results are perfect.
Spoiler :

I have not moved troops in English lands yet.

The south stack can head to the forest this turn, which is my preferred move (not 1SE of the city) as it allows units to cross the river in 1 turn.

I've queued Banking and then Calendar for that elusive Banana.

We need 2 spy missions against Mansa (1. bring to Organized Religion, 2. convert to Hinduism) which will cost more than 200EP.

Comments? Want the save?

What's the tech HC/Mansa is researching? Edit: I see from the sceenshot, GP.

As the movement of southern stack, yes, moving to the forest tile. My suggestion was for last turn as moving to 1SE of Hastings allows saving 1 turn for that stack -- Bombardment and healing.

We also need spy missions for Shaka and probably Cyrus as well.

Edit: Where did your fearsome of bad luck come from? SGOTM12 mission of stealing Communism?;)

Indeed, I'll switch EP 50/50 to Cyrus/Shaka.

Do we launch GA this turn? Better chance to accumulate bonus from Mercantilism.

About Cyrus DoW:

Would we get a -1 penalty from Mansa for DoW?

Yes, launch the GA, it will also speedup the troop production, I think we should stop producing offensive troops from home cities soon 9 (in ~5 turns) and start building wealth. Producing more spies, we might be able to afford 1 or 2 revolting mission for Persian cities.

Not sure about Mansa's altitude of our DOWing Cyrus, we need to DOW regardless.

Ok. In any case, Cyrus DoW can't happen before next turn, troops need to heal a bit.

It can't happen before T163 as we demanded the forced peace treaty.

Edit: Remember to gift away BMs -- 1 in Pat and 1 in Lahore

Imageshack not working so I'll limit screenshots.

The situation at Warwick: the last stand of England.

Hatty has 10 attacking troops, plus 2 Trebuchets and 5 Catapults.
Liz has 22 units in all in the city. (1~3 reinforcements next turn)
We have 17 attacking troops around the city
And 18 Trebuchets.
I've bombarded the defense down to 31% and can finish it this turn with the trebs that are across the river.

We have 2 choices:

1- finish bombarding this turn and hope Hatty suicides in the IBT, making our job easier
2- cross the river and let Hatty remove 16% culture

EDIT: there is a path to Mansa, it's about 8-tiles movement for Caravels. But I don't see us spreading enough Hinduism in time to convert him by turn 171 and have him stay Hindu reliably.

EDIT2: Did we ever beg from Hatty?

Don't cross the river, it's useless for battles as the initial attacks come from Northern stack. Are there more units with the WE, if we could safely kill them, do it as we can move the stack 1 tile closer to London this way, in any case, remove the defense and let Hatty do the work.

I have never begged from anyone.

Edit: send some workers to lay down a couple of forts --1NE of Can and 1NW of the Fish

Moving the south SoD 1W doesn't change anything because those tiles will be freed of English culture once Warwick is gone.

Something like this:

Re: Hatty
I was asking because she has 200+ gold on her hands and just popped a GM.

How many turns have we known Hatty? There's formula to calculate it, Given the power ratio and LT, it's safe to beg 100g+, maybe 150g?

It seems that the road under the northern stack got pillaged, make sure you have 2 workers ready to repair it in time.

OK to let the stack stays.

Begging worked! We're 150 gold richer.
Spoiler :

Next turn:
I've killed 16 units, 0 losses on our side, leaving 6 units in the city.
Hatty still has 5 units she can use to take the city
Spoiler :

Before

After

I still have 2 units that can attack this turn. Based on Settings tab, Hatty's turn comes before Liz... meaning she'd likely take the city.

So... do I wait for next turn to capture it ourselves or do we go for London 1 turn faster?

The good thing here is we're already well ahead on schedule compared to your war plan of post #751 : you had planned to take Hastings on T166...

Regarding your question, as long as we're 100% sure that Hatty will vote for us (I think we are), and this city's votes won't make Hatty our challenger for AP (I really doubt it will), taking the city or leaving it to her makes no difference for the AP vote.
By the time Hastings comes out of revolt, we will probably have finished Liz off, and Cyrus will not be a huge problem anymore, so this particular city is of little use to us, except for score, which I really don't care about in a SGOTM.

So I'd probably attack now and let her take it (not 100% sure she will though, AIs behave so oddly sometimes...)

BTW Duck, do you have a link to the formula for begging/demanding? I'm interested...

There is the matter of captured gold mostly...

... and Duckweed loves boosting score ;)

Well, I honestly think it doesn't make it any faster for us if Hastings goes down 1 turn faster, we'll only use minimal troops anyway to capture it.

Question:

1) Do we DoW Cyrus this turn? We have 22 troops ready to go.
2) MM is Pleased with Cyrus but HC Cautious. The DoW will earn us -1 with MM? Or possibly 0/-1 from both?

@Bebe
I have to leave in ~45 minutes, you can pick up the save and keep going if you want once I leave.

As long as we are able to take London before election, get the city ourselves.

@Bebe

I can't find the link now, either dingding posted somewhere in SGOTM11 or there's a post in OSS thread.

Yes, DOW Cyrus immediately.

I know, I kind of said that on purpose....:mischief:

I'll trust you on this since you have the save and can figure out all the unit moves

Question:

1) Do we DoW Cyrus this turn? We have 22 troops ready to go.

Cyru's SoD left on T159, headed towards Hammy's land, so we should have at least 5 turns before we see it (or its remnants) again.
But really, is there a reason for *not* declaring ASAP? We're paying maintenance for those idling troops...

2) MM is Pleased with Cyrus but HC Cautious. The DoW will earn us -1 with MM? Or possibly 0/-1 from both?
I have no idea.
For any diplomatic action, the team's attitude towards Cyrus is Cautious (the lowest of the two), but I really don't know if it translates to diplo bonus modifiers.
If I had to guess, I'd say that we're going to take -1 to MM and nothing to HC.
Anyways, like Duck said, the only reasonable question is "Can we win on T182 as planned without declaring on Cyrus?". If the answer is no, then we have to declare anyway and deal with the consequences.

Comments

Ok for taking the save, it leaves me just enough time to finish watching Real/Bayern  ...

Alrighty. I'm slightly worried we'll have difficulty winning over MM's votes but in any case, he barely has any (40).

EDIT: Great news! No -1 penalty incurred!!!
We also have a GG I forgot to mention... can attach to a Knight perhaps?

I have to run, the save is yours Bebe!

Hastings fell, no losses still. Troops in front of Cyrus's city... should take 2 turns to bombard.
I forgot to send the spies in London last turn but 30% discount should still be more than enough.
Either I don't understand how borders work or London just got a border pop :dunno:
Spoiler :

Religion spreading is going fairly well.

Game Log was too long so not included.
