It was a warm spring afternoon, the newly elected Stadtholder of The Republic Jan Van Leeuwen walked up onto the stage set up in front of The Dutch Senate building, for this very speech, below him he saw thousands of Dutch men, women and children cheering and waving The Dutch Tricolor. The newly elected Stadtholder stood there for a moment taking in the view before him, waving and rejoicing in his recent victory. Then he began to speak into the microphone and the crowd quieted immediately..
“Sons and Daughters of Holland, I speak to you today at the beginning of a new epoch in this nation’s great history. We stand at a crossroads we can either continue business as usual and continue to oppress The Dutch Worker, or we can enact programs which reward, and strengthen him. I personally opt for and will fight to the death for the latter. And I thank this great nation for giving me a chance to lead. I have already begun to follow through with the promises I gave to The electorate. By proposing two major bills to The Parliament, upon their passage our nation will be a much more equal, and justice based society. The first bill I have proposed is a comprehensive Pension system for all Dutch workers. In the current system the Dutch worker slaves away for years at low wages to just get by and once they are too old to work they are just cast onto the street and left to starve and die, we must no longer stand for this! Following the passage of the Dutch Pension System Act, all Dutch workers will be rewarded for their hard work. Upon their retirement they will receive a monthly pension to remind them that their hard work to improve this country has not been forgotten, the exact amount they receive will be determined by exactly how much their salary was during their working years, but the absolute minimum pension amount will be well above the poverty line.
That brings me to the issue of poverty, this evil must be eradicated, we cannot allow poverty to exist in a nation as affluent and advanced as ours. I stay up at night thinking that many young Dutch children are suffering and starving in the streets of Amsterdam, Antwerp, and Rotterdam at this very moment, it pains me greatly to know this. This problem needs to be addressed and reversed completely. This is why I will begin advocating the creation of poverty shelters throughout these cities to give these people a chance to recover and become self-sufficient and vital parts of the economy.
This brings me to the second radical act I have proposed in The Parliament, The Dutch Healthcare Act of 1908. The Healthcare act aims to bring cheap and affordable Healthcare and Hospital services to every Dutchman, women and child by nationalizing the system and paying for the people’s healthcare through taxpayer money. This will help increase our lifespans, and general well being of The Dutch people. I imagine one day where the Dutch Healthcare System is the envy of the entire world, and any Dutchman or women, no matter their income or social status will be treated of their diseases free of charge.
Domestic issues are not our only problems, we also face many enemies abroad, The Conservative Party has ruined our international prestige and has greatly weakened our international standing. They brought us into the devastating Great War, which has cost us thousands of young Dutchmen. And for what? To save the decaying Spanish Empire? Why should it have been our responsibility to save the Spanish Empire? I do not know, you will have to ask the Conservatives of this nation for the answer. Although I was adamantly against our entrance into the Great War, we cannot just turn away from the Political scene all together as many people are proposing. We are bordered to the East by a large, nationalistic and very aggressive state, The Kingdom of Brandenburg. Our only way to defend against this threat is to remain in our alliance with Denmark, and The Franco-Burgundian Confederation, for without the French troops in The Netherlands, Amsterdam could have very well been overrun and occupied by The Germans, who would’ve undoubtedly caused untold havoc to the people residing there. Without French troops defending The East Indies we would have hordes of Japanese troops descending on these vital, and rich islands and taking the land for themselves. Although I am not particularly fond of these foreign entanglements we have gotten ourselves into I am fully aware that we cannot abandon our allies for it would prove costly for our nation. I fully intend to revive our nation to its past glory, stand with me and I promise we can achieve this together!”.
Leeuwen walked off the stage amid cheers from the crowd, the Dutch tricolors waving ever more ferociously.

It will be at least a decade until they pose any real military threat to us. Our only worry at this point are some of their more.. Radical elements that seem to be gaining firmer holds upon their government.
as such, we wish to wait a bit and observe the reaction of the other allied governments, before entering such a treaty. we will provide a more concrete reply to your offer by the years end.

There wasn't much of Poland left on the map. The room was filled with Generals, Admirals, Top Government Agents and, a rare occurance, the King. But this was not a place for etiqutte and cordiality. Everybody in the room had aged exponentially over the past few years. Subordinates were running in and out of the room.
One of them had just brought in a copy of the Treaty of Riga. There had been a chorus of swearing, then a long, sullen silence. Both America and Britain had signed it.
"If we're lucky, Brandenburg would try to claim Ostpreusen from Russia." The speaker got a lot of dirty looks. Then the communique from Russia arrived and was read out.
"They are right, we have no allies left. Perhaps...the only way for Poland to survive is...accepting their offer of unconditional surrender. The people will survive, we all get amnesty and His Majesty gets to live. It may be one day we come back. No empire lasts forever."
"No. He's not right." Everybody looked at the King. He had largely remained quiet for the whole session. "We still have allies. Hungary, Serbia. They still stand. I expect they recieved messages just like this. If I listen to their demands, I may as well lose my crown. Get a secutary."

If you continue to fight, the terms will only grow harsher. We gave the Polish Royal family and their court a chance to abdicate to the country of their choosing. If they choose to continue fighting what is now a lost cause, they will be sent to a place of our choosing, which we can assure them will be much less pleasant.
We will allow Hungary to reconsider our offer to them now that they see the future of Eastern Europe. As we stated to them privately, that is the best deal they will get from us.
