Re: Ypres Convention

Please note that this convention is unlike the Ypres Convention, in that each nation attending will be able to vote on each proposed amendment to the Calais Convention, and will be able to propose their own amendments to be voted on next year. We therefore request that those nations who have so far refused to attend the convention to rethink their decision.

The Treaty of Odessa

Article 1: A state of war no longer exists between the Kingdom of Hungary and the United Russian Empire

Article 2: The city of Odessa and the lands around it shall be returned to Russia, with no further harm or destruction being visited upon it or the citizens therein. The Hungarian troops in the region will be allowed to return home unmolested so long as they abide by the aforementioned conditions

Article 3: Hungary shall pay reparations to Russia totaling [200 EP], to be spread out over 5 years

Article 4: Serbia will be from this day forth under the protection of Russia, free from Hungarian interference

Article 5: Romania will be granted its independence from Hungary and placed under Russian protection and guidance

Article 6: Hungary will send no economic, political or military aid to Poland, Georgia or any of the Roman factions

Article 7: The Hungarian fleet in the Black Sea will leave, never to return, nor shall Hungary send any additional ships to the Black Sea nor construct any more warships on that body of water ever again. Russia guarantees the shipping rights of Hungary on the Black Sea, so long as it does not violate Article 6 of this treaty

Signed,
Emperor Nicholas of the United Russian Empire, King of Moscow and Novgorod, Don of the Cossacks, Lord of the Khazaks, Khan of the Mongols

Sardinia and the Italian Republic have agreed to a cease fire, and Sardinian troops will be withdrawing from Genoa. With this halt in fighting and our ongoing cease fire with Naples, Sardinia no longer considers itself at war with any nation. However, we will respond appropriately to any attacks on our sovereignty.

We grieve over the death of your father, a great friend of our country. At the same time, we welcome the beginning of your rule and hope that it will lead to a period of even greater cooperation between our two nations.

The Italian Republic seconds the cease fire and promises Sardinian forces will be allowed to peacefully withdraw from Genoa. We hope relations will soon improve with the Sardinians.

Gas weapons are no more inhumane then anyother. A man shot in the lungs with a bullet will still die a long, slow, death. A man burned in gasoline will still feel his skill peeling off him. A man stabbed in the gut with a bayonet will still suffer the curse of gangrene advancing upon his heart. A man half-delimbed by artillery fire will still suffer as he slowly fades to black. And survival is almost worse. The Shot man will feel death just on the horizon with each torturous breath. The Burned Man is now defigured and shunned despite all intentions. The bayoneted man will suffer indigestion and pain for the rest of his life. And the amputee... the amputee will suffer the strange and inhuman mixture of pity and fear reserved for only their kind.

War is war, and War is Hell. Respect for civilians and medics can be understood, but the limitation upon weapons of war is ludicrous.

Gas weapons don't damage one lung, or the skin of a single person. Gas weapons kill thousands in a miserable way. Not only that but unlike bullets, gas cannot be aimed well and will kill thousands of innocents, perhaps even more, just from being shot. Gas weapons are also shot with no faces. It is dishonorable and destructive.

Gas weapons are a tool of the devil, and only devils would be found using them against brave soldiers and innocent populations.

A barrel of gas is no more or less evil then a crate of machine guns, razor wire, entrenchment tools and riflemen. War is a slaughterhouse. When is the last time you saw the face of your enemy? That you saw the white of his eyes? When is the last time Artillery fired right at the enemies lines instead of lobbing shells over hundreds of meters with a prayer of good aiming? When is the last time a rifleman aimed at the oncoming horde instead of just squeezing bullets as fast as he can reload?

A wayward artillery strike can destroy a town as well as a barrel of gas, and for the very same reason: mere miscalculation. And yet no one speaks against artillery. Mass machinegun fire kills impersonally like gas, and mows them down like gas, but no one speaks against machine guns. A line of Infantrymen is more cheep then a barrel of gas, and can kill just as well, especially over the years. But no one speaks against the Infantry Platoon.

WAR IS HELL, you idealistic republican. War ITSELF is the tool of the devil. But this tool is worth it for certain people. Like the Perfidious Spaniards and their Cheese-eating friends. The same way you feel maiming and killing hundreds with good ol' hot lead and flying shrapnel is worth defending your ideals and your hopes for a united Italy.

This is the 48 hour warning to get the orders in.

We thank you for your kind words and hope that a new agreement can be struck between us. Though we have been economic arrivals in the past, we hope you will agree to a mutual defense pact between our two islands.

Russia hereby agrees to the Entente with the Confederation

We can agree to such a measure, as it is especially necessary to be on guard against any attempts by Naples or the Italian Republic to "unite" Italy.

From: The Republic of The Netherlands

Our country has suffered much from The Great War, thousands of young Dutchmen have died, and we have lost swathes of land. We do not feel that war is quite worth the costs that it bestows, for this reason we hereby declare our neutrality. We ask that any nation receiving this message will guarantee and protect our rights as a neutral nation, as the world has done to our southern neighbor, Flanders.
At this time, we also withdraw our nation from The Triple Alliance, although we are withdrawing from this organization we hope we can still have close, and friendly relations with both Denmark and The Franco-Burgundian Confederation. We are also withdrawing from The Dutch-Scandinavian Defensive alliance, we too hope for close and friendly relations with The Empire of Scandinavia.

Signed,
Jan Van Leeuwen, Stadtholder of The Republic of The Netherlands

The Confederation will protect the Netherlands in a military capacity in Europe and in the East Indies for the coming year and probably longer, if desired, and will guarantee Dutch neutrality against anyone who encroaches on it.

Flanders applauds the Netherlands' decision to join the ranks of the world's neutral nations, and hopes that our countries' shared unaligned status will allow us to work towards further cooperation among the Dutch peoples, allowing Dutch speakers everywhere to experience a new prosperity they have not enjoyed in years. In this spirit Flanders offers a guarantee of the neutrality of the Netherlands and the integrity of their European holdings.
