Deity Fun #6 - Mystery Leader [fractal, no huts, no events, standard, BUG mod]

Well i survived the first storm, but it's very likely Tachy put us into isolation

ZzZ i think we should play this without BW, for extra fun.

Ha! Maybe when I play this map later today I will do that, and use it as an example on how it is a terrible idea for that guy. He is really starting to get on my nerves as he completely ignores the reasons why you need it. :\

Ok, I approve this start. Let's not die to barbs with that tundra.

Edit: Benefits of avoiding BW by relying on Pyramids and Hanging Gardens? Seems strong to me. ;)

Spoiler :

Well, that's a horrible situation. Isolation on deity...ugh.
Anyways, I play it and Joao II with all his auto-sufficient (autarchy-like) empire developer traits is pretty good.

Almost everything sync....only the annoying fact I missed the second plain tile and worked a little my second settler along a lake tile worked. That's a hoot for an IMP leader.

Plan: Sip, second city next to fish (I ignore the copper as fogbusting is mighty easy), about to found the third city in the FP region and EXP will certainly help me. Shame I can't have less than 8 FP's which translates to 2  to 3:sick:. At first, I wanted to settle just 1N to wheat, but the unhealthyness is going to be terrible, I prefer 1NW to the wheat. We're isolated; health is a problem. I prepared my trade route as I read somewhere (about few days) if you prepare the route, you receive the trade in the present turn instead of waiting next turn. Let's try it then...if it is true!

My fourth city is going to be next to stone for a gun to Mids. I need HAPPY resources at all cost! I don't know if I'm going for Astro. On deity, it is often a bad idea given how fast the AI may tech it. I'll try to keep an eye on indicators to see how fast the AI is (wonders, religions, etc.).

My tech path is pretty simple: Agriculture > BW > Wheel > Pottery > Masonry (Mids and perhaps GHL, but I'm not going to hope on this. It is far easier to gun for this wonder when the capital is coastal.

My fogbusting was almost perfect. Interestingly, many warriors spawned and later archers made their arrival (not that later). I guess RNG was generous.

EDIT: That's true! Preparing the trade route makes the trade route available the present turn of the foundation. Cool to save some beakers.

Funny, my little warris got pushed back so early by numerous archers..had no chance of fog busting east. So it's really full isolation huh, unnnh..

In fact, there is a strip of lands down in the south...not explored yet. Maybe...I will see a friendly face. Shame I'll have to tech AH to get chariots so I can get sentry promotion(oops, yeah, pigs) and get more chance to meet someone.

Just now, I looked at your game; indeed if you had bad luck with barbs, then you went for the right decision to settle your second city for copper as an immediate reaction to bad luck. In small isolation, if one pushes early with a little luck, one can skip the copper thing (that city isn't attractive), but if bad luck happens a lot, then better arm ourselves. Anyways, it is not competition here, but just to get a win and seriously, if I lose
Spoiler :
the Mids, then I'm at lost. I need happy.

BTW, I sure like task forces (workers) management along settlers and other things. So cool to prepare routes in a timely manner to save one turn or two.

EDIT: Holy friggin' mama!

Spoiler :
Christianity in 1760 BC with the Oracle. The AI sure is crazy!

The human anti-barb GWall.

==========================

I lost. The mids went away at 1000 BC. I missed the mids by one turn. Now, I've lost all my enthusiasm.

Okay it's full Iso, and no happy res omg Tachy i surrender give us something else :)

Spoiler :
Really.
Well, now I looked into the worldbuilder and oh my! Guess what. Willem had a HoF start with 2 gold tiles, another one a bit farther and good food.
Indeed, that was a possible terrible game. And losing either Oracle (Monarchy) or Mids(Rep) means an automatic loss as we need to raise the happy cap early. Relying on those is a pure gamble.

Reroll in a minute. That is why I verified the maps before releasing them; I knew I would encounter such bad maps.

Thanks a lot for the spoiler...

Thanks a lot for the spoiler...

So what. Isolation is too gambley. I don't think someone can keep up with a boosted AI. Anyways, knowing that AI doesn't change much. Quite early, I noticed somebody was running away.

EDIT: wait, were you intended to play such start? Just wait, I'm rerolling. Just need to get something else than HC or Shaka with 2 gems for instance.

Ho ha! Guess who I rolled. Wang Kon! Hmmm weird start.

Isolation + no happy resources = Cottage everything + go for Monarchy ASAP

And here we are now.

Struggled with myself on going for Taoism, but best date I could have bulbed it was 100-200AD so I decided against it. I think it is much safer to go for National Epic (sidetracking is too dangerous in deity isolation I guess) and set up a GP Farm since I want to have something to trade once I finally meet someone. If this landmass had island or two... And yeah, I settled differently. Since I knew those pigs would need to wait and had no visible commerce, I went for 4 Flood plains so I could cottage them. I don't intend to give up until I see AIs.

What do I do now? Deity Fun #6 will have a single player then.

OK, looks like I'll have to split this deity fun into two different games. Unfortunately, I'm out for the first not completely for the loss of the Mids, but because I went for worldbuilder after hearing Mylene confirming it is an isolation situation.

Relax a bit Shaka ;)
I know you currently seem to experience "what can i win on deity" but really, you dun *have* to read threads while playing.
Sure this could be winnable, but honestly if you take Deity Iso with Joao serious...that goes a bit too far for me.

100AD Isolated Joao

What is deity without a bit of a gamble, right?

Mwahaha!

@Mylene

Well, when I started playing game I didn't know we were isolated (but was hoping for since I never played real deity isolation). I already invested time and nerves so I cannot just leave it be.
Normal games aren't fun enough to me last few months. I always read Civfanatics while playing. It relaxes me. You said somewhere you do that too.

@Tachy

Solution to this can be putting this game in trash (heavy spoilers) somewhere in OP and post another one, one people will play. But leave me right to post screenies here. Once I am done with this game, or parallel with this game, I'll gladly play new roll.

No problemo. It is a pleasure you continue with your. In fact, if I was not unlucky to lose the Mids, I would continue playing for sure.

Honestly, losing at 1000 BC was a bit cheap, but to ensure Mids for almost 95%, we have to get ~1500 BC. I saw the amount of food and concluded mids would be cool in that situation and the GScientists along. Now, my cottages are barely prepared and I completely avoided the religious path, so that is no good.

Shame I saw in worldbuilder. Maybe I could have tried to get the said wonder just one turn earlier.<

And that is normal at one point games are not fun anymore. You are playing against yourself. That is why I try HoF and XOTM game; these are places where you cannot be number one ever in all types of skills until after long long training period.

Yep, brutal game. I had no issues with barbs and built the Mids. Actually beat the AIs to Astro, but Lib went very early and a couple of AIs were running away with it. I played a bit longer trying to play catch-up but the cards were stacked against. After some initial trades to backfill (and I traded with most everyone), I really had nothing to offer except for SB, who wouldn't trade with me. I was way to slow on OX as well, as I tried to move the palace. I think my big mistake was beelining Optics (GE bulbed Machinery) without picking up CoL first, as well as probably overexpanding in iso.

Ok..what's next ;)

Spoiler :
Of course, Willie was the big runaway, but interesting SB capped him shortly after we met

That's cool you play the games, but it is cooler to post some pictures or a save. And, when did you build the Mids? Don't tell me after 1k BC or I rage.... :pissed:
The next in line (hoping it is not another isolation) is a Wang Kon game.
