Just got AND to work and I have to say, it looks pretty awesome! But I would like to play the Earth 18 Civs scenario in standard RoM, but when I copy it to AND, it brings up a black screen saying "You have been defeated!" Why is this? Can someone help me out? I'm guessing this is the incorrect way to do it, but can someone link me to a Earth 18 civs map for AND?

I've been using earth evolution 2 map (random resources) which seems to work ok. Just google it and put it in the maps folder for rom and.

I think there was an earth map included in AND but I don't remember how many civs or how big it is. Anyway special scenarios like those of the earth would need to be balanced on their own because balance is made for random maps. I will balance some earth map as well, but I need some time.

I've downloaded RAND twice now and it hasn't shown up in the BTS directory. If it's a stand alone mod, why would I have to dl RoM first, espec if v2.92 is unstable. I've tried gamefront and SourceF, but there's no info there. I have gotten nowhere.

I'd like to get away from PF, FF and Next War and play this, but can't seem to figure out what to do with it. Any help?

There are different versions of RoM-AND in this forum. Latest official stable version was 1.75C which can be downloaded from the first post in this thread. Then there is ver2, which is a beta and you can download it from here if you don't want to mess with SVN versions:

Since it's almost 900MB zipped, I've uploaded it in 5 parts, here

Download, unrar and cut-paste the folder inside your mod folder of BTS.

OR you can follow SVN instructions from another sticky to download the last SVN version which should be updated more or less frequently, but it's a still-under-developement-version, so bugs are possible.
Anyway you don't need Rom 2.92, it's already included in every version of AND (in fact, it was the base for AND).

Man, thanks. I've run into more difficulties with this than any (HL series, TES-WryBash and Construction set) mod I've ever tried to install. After 3 installations it still is only accessable with "search" in WnXP and it does not show in-game at all!
So, I'm gonna use your links after deleting the last one and hopefully get it started.
It took me 2.5 hours to dl the 1.75 + patch and another to try the 2.92, but I hadn't unzipped it yet when I saw your post.
Wish me luck.:goodjob:

Finally got this to start after a tremendous amount of hassle. Playing Iroquois and got to this point and had a CTD with fatal error. Here is the last save prior to this. Any ideas anybody?

I've loaded your savegame and played a dozen of turns without any problem or CTD at all...

heh, I know. I left this last night and came back to it this morning. Couldn't get it to do it again until I tried to load an autosave from 1-3 turns before. Then I got the "bad allocation" popup (but no "fatal error" message this time) and CTD. I've noticed some stutter when chosing a unit to move of about 5-6 seconds, then it goes ahead after the lag and moves.

It just may be my old system, although I run a P4 @ 3.0Ghz 32bit XPpro with a 512Mb 8400 GS and 3 Gb RAM. I've never experienced this on any Civ stuff before.

I just deleted about 500 saves from previous turns on BTS and Mods, so I'll see if I can get it to do it once more.
Thanks for the feedback btw.:)

Oh, I just remembered. while unpacking part 2 (I think) I got a WinRar error message on "Isabella headboard -cautious" not present or something. I looked for the clipboard archive to see exactly what it said, but not sure where to find it.

Are you using the 3GB/switch?

There is a stickied thread here in the main RoM forum on how to use it.

Also with only 512 Mb of vid ram you might want to consider using less AI in the game. Anything above 10 will probably give you late game problems. Same for using REV with either Barb Civ or Barb World.

I've got more prob now than ever!
I did the 3GB switch. Reset graphics to medium with high detail unticked. Now it it won't even load! I get an initial renderer fail and a direct x reference. It says to check drivers for my vid card (get auto notifed on these).
So, I'll run a DDX and see what shows up. I'll even chk nVidia to make sure I didn't miss an update.
But, I just finished running all the way through TES Oblivion with heavy mods, all the dlc's and Shivering Isles. Not 1 glitch.

[Ok, I checked Dx diag, and I am running Dx 10 with 1024 MB graphics. All tests for accelleration and drawing were successful]
The only thing I can think of is to try to set the hyperthread to 1 core affinity for Civ and see if that makes a diff?? If that doesn't do it, I'll go back to the orig boot ini and undo the 3GB switch.

OK, got past the graphics glitch by going back to original .ini, played about 100 turns with the minor annoyance of ctd when reloading a save. (It's why we couldn't get it to repeat, it only happens with a prev save game load)

So, now I'm getting a Maj CTD when I try to raze Cyrus' city I've just captured.
I thought that by trying the load/unload modules folder suggestion with static lh and unit art might work and set about to try it.

Only prob is, it's no where to be found. I've searched the entire innerwebs for a good 24 hours and cannot find a good file to make the transfer. I thought again, this is supposed to be a stand alone modmod, now I find out I've got to dl another set of files to get past the bug.:crazyeye:

Come on! This ain't new to anyone who's played this or read this forum.

Where's the fix for this?

We can't all be running on 64bit, 99 gazillion gigs of RAM and SSD with a DDR3 graphics controller. Where's the love for the old and steady 32bit systems?

I'm talking to the major developers here more than anyone. Besides many of us old gamers think there's collusion between the game houses and hardware shops already and crap like this only reinforces that suspicion.

Hey, I know! Occupy CIV!!!!!

Hey,

as this is my very first post on civ fanatics ever, I first of all would like to compliment you people in general: over the years this forum has provided me valuable information, since civ II? When I played civ I, I had no internet access. Anyways. Secondly, I want to thank the makers of a new dawn: this is the most outstanding CIV IV mod turning the entire game into the best strategy game i know.

But here is my questions: I have installed the civ iv complete edition (from amazon) on my lenovo work notebook and it runs totally fine. When I try to load RAND the game fails to reload into the mod and I get the win 7 error message : "civ iv bts has stopped working". I did start BTS as an administrator (please note I can not set the shortcut properties to 'run as admin', so I had to do this manually).

I have tried to reinstall several times, but to no avail. At my home PC it always worked fine. If you have an Idea what I can do, please let me know.

If you think that the notebook is not powerful enough: vanilla BTS works fine, also a 18 civ game way into the 2000s runs very smooth. The notebook specs are: win 7 64bit, i5 2.7Ghz, 6Gig ram, Gfx: Intel HD (is this the weak spot?)

thanks for helping me out, I cant wait to play RAND again.

c

Since your laptop OS is 7 64 bit, did it create a path for the Civ IV Complete directory with this in it: ex. using c as main drive, c:Program Files (x86) or just c:Program files ?

Since Civ IV is a 32bit application a x64 bit OS needs to have the (x86) to emulate a 32 system.

What is the OS on your desktop?

Hey Joseph II,

thanks for the reply. the desktop also runs win 7 64 and yes the game is installed in the x86 folder. Please note: without the mod the game works just fine on the notebook. I just dont know why I cant get the mod to run.

just installed my civ iv complete from amazon on yet another system (windows 7, 64 bit) and BTS runs without a problem. the stock mods also load. but i dont succeed with installing rise of mankind 2.91, RAND 1.75C or RAND 2beta ...

in all three cases after i click on load mod, my desktop is shown, i see in the taskamanger that civ is somewhere around 10 or 20 mb or ram trying to do something before like 30 seconds later i get a crash report from windows.

and yes, i run bts as an admin.

any ideas anyone? I m really lost here and surprised that no rise of mankind mod works.

For RoM 2.91, you should ask in the RoM forum, although I don't know if that version is supported anymore. For RAND 1.75C, it should work. It's not officially supported anymore but that was the last stable version and it works 100%; RAND2 is the last version which is currently under development and right now the most updated version can be found via SVN updates (I'll release the next update on sunday, I hope). Some time ago I've uploaded a version of RAND2 which also includes the "coinage fix" for those who don't know how or don't want to mess with SVN; I think links are still working, you can find them here: (there are 5 parts to download)

This is NOT anyway the latest SVN version (v. 586).
Try loading any other mod from default BTS and see if it works. Then clear the cache and try again with RAND. If it doesn't work it's probably a faulty installation. Either reinstall or (I suggest) download a new version either via the link I've provided or via SVN updates: there's no installation file in this case, just drag and drop RoM-AND folder inside your BTS mods folder (just make sure you delete your previous RoM/AND folder).
