I will just say for now that the REAL problem began with the last fella, and it brought my mind back to Immortal because good lord every tile a unit. So many you literally cannot believe facing them. This will also be a big (and final - for this iteration anyways) update, so I will have to split it up and fast forward along the way.


But without adieu, we begin with some comedy relief



Turns out Cathy had extra SAMs in the rear, which would explain the loss of our *sniff* special unit



Never to fear, rocket tubes and battlewagons dealt with them in short order



Spy we assigned in Moscow discovered something perilous... but to be honest, we weren't that worried. Reconnaissance of Russian strategic resources after the war had showed her lands to be not possessing anything greenish and radioactive... at least we hoped



We got a fighter recon up... 4 SAMs (2 we already killed when they came forward)... that would explain the Bomber loss.



We simply held the line at Orenberg while we took a city real close to Moscow



Like bees to honeypot, Russian forces slammed onto our beachhead... but they were kinda few



Meanwhile the Chinese were trying to do their own naval envelopment of this Heroic Ironclad, after their Almaty lackeys failed with their much more modern Destroyers.



I could see why they brought along a Privateer, but honestly, you are trying to attack someone with Bombers. You either swarm him with a ton of units, or not do it at all.


The taking of Moscow:





It didn't seem like a good idea...



I was kinda wondering where her navy was, and why I didn't get to see much of her forces in action... they were stuck in this inland sea all along!

In the middle of this heated action, Wu Zetian has finally decided to make peace with the magnificent score leaders, Harun/Sejong.



Ground forces managed to push into Vladivostok, and here we discovered a potential source of Russia's mind-boggling science



Atomic Theory came... and there was no uranium for me :-(



To top off the disappointment, Russian naval forces retook their capital



We took it back, and our brave Bomber boys made sure the Ivans will think thrice before trying another stunt like this!



(Un)fortunately, peace was made in time.



In time for us to prepare some more. My intention is to liberate this city-state from the Ivans, so it may provide us a bountiful supply of much needed smiley faces, and boy did we need them

Fighting at -33% was quite bad



Spy reporting from Beijing says that a naval invasion is planned... but for whom? Us? Has she not learnt her lesson, that little... oriental deviant?!

Then just as things went south, Washington realized that it was only the beginning of an endless nightmare





Catherine finally completed the Manhattan, but it turns out she did not have any uranium at all



There was only one thing left to do with such news

Russia was too big an empire, and too far ahead of the space race, so the logical conclusion dictated that...

"City-states declare war on Harun/Sejong"



But quick blitzkrieg with Cavalries ensured that we had extra CS supporting our war efforts



Ah yes, the dangers of a lone Privateer sheltered inside a coastal city



We now begin with a two-pronged assault towards both Novgorod (a major production city spamming out Destroyers) and Yaroslavl'



Russian navy did not like Infantry sitting a tile from Novgorod, therefore Infantryski died due to many shellings



But it was a crap spam city anyways - Yaroslavl' was where the real goods laid, and out of reach of the legendary Battleships, it was an easier target to acquire with rocket tubes and bomber support



It was also non-coastal



Goodbye, poor worker, may you be the greatest bait to ever live under the wise gaze of Harun al-Rashid (the Terrible)



Yeah we paid him off, but at this point, I was hoping there would be a massive naval engagement or two... somewhere...



Our very first submarine, and not converted or anything cheesy like that. We never had to resort to converting submarines or aircraft carriers this entire game, btw

Back-and-forth struggle for Novgorod, but we eventually got it burned down

An interesting set of actions on Bismarck's part - his electronic brain was probably wondering whether to invade Sejong or not (all this obsolete Turdleships...), but something must have clicked that it was an extremely bad idea to attract Harun's attention

Thus, an impasse of pieces



Well, that was next to our WHAT... oh boy



Closer to the south, a Chinese Naval Fleet was on its way towards putting an end to the ancient American Republic (how did they get OB from Sejong?!)



Let's just say they lost quite a bunch of units



A formation only a little child could come up with (why front the carrier??!)



Oh yeah, she was at war with Bismarck too

Well, may ya'll live in interesting times



She even tried to make faraway landfall to do a slow push towards NY with 2 GW Infantry and 2 Artillery (and presumably, that rabble of a fleet)



Between the Iowas and Luftwaffe (when they were not busy killing each other), the Chinese invasion fleet was as good as toast



But one's weakness was another's opportunity





Oh, and here's a shot of us completing the Eiffel. If Napoleon was in this game, he would be so proud...



We took down Almaty before making further moves, also upgrading some Privateers into Privateer Destroyers!

Hello Dear Readers, this is your magnificent host Smallfish. To give ya'll a reward for bearing with my crazy short posts, I will now disable Quick Combat at certain points of time to give you a better grasp of the situation to come



She had so many units she never even bothered sending west. Anyway, the age of the Ironclad/Battleship is over, and it is the dawn of the Human Runaway W/ Nuclear Weaponry

We are thus now well and truly into the endgame



The only limitations being how many uraniums I can get from Sejong (4), how much I have in my funds (not alot) and whether I can get 20,000g (and Advanced Ballistics - my lovely avatar!)



Perhaps it was because of this apocalyptic holocaust, that a Chinese Great Admiral came to our side



Even then, once we took Beijing, the Chinese became less of a concern. We were now going to head west, to the industrious lands of Deutschland



Took this Chinese spam city and gifted it to the Russians (they literally had no monies and were in some massive negative gpt)



I don't just bully...



I... at this point, there was a clock ticking somewhere. If it goes below 50, the bomb in the bus will explode, and we can't allow that to happen now can we.



Therefore Jerusalem had to be smashed





We could not have our cake and eat it too - the trade off for having an easy going game with wonderspamming and fun warmongering.

(He had 4 atomics, another 3 stashed in a carrier to the northwest)



It was now or never.

A Gotterdammerung the 2nd Chinese War only hinted at



I would have brought more nukes, annexed more puppets, had I known the scale of units Bismarck had around his Fatherland



This was no atom bomb job - this was something for nuclear missiles



I guess what really amazed me was that he kept so many units in his homelands, but he never sent them out to really fight the wars with America and China, or to smash the Polynesians and Romans when they were weakest... in short, doing everything he can to fill up the map with his gray blob and units



Then, in response to my opener, he nuked Jerusalem and I lost a rocket tube. I shouldn't have placed them there, but there was really no way other than relying on Battleships



But I took Cologne!



I believe he popped another nuke before retaking it. This was getting seriously bad... I like how he basically lured my submarine into a false sense of security, and then basically swarmed it



Then cut the hex between my remaining sub and Logistics BB with his own BB, and a bigger force not more than a few hexes away

Also nuking Jerusalem again because I annexed it and bought a Destroyer there (lost my Privateer Destroyer, and all my melee units...)



It didn't prevent me from rushbuying or shifting new arsenals from Mecca/Damascus, however...



And so, finally, the Koreans decided they should try and land a hand... their sole Ironclad in the charge got wiped out by German BBs

But at least they are now presenting a broadside towards Berlin

Yay!



What really prevented this from dragging super long was that I just pulled out a destroyer and BB I had stationed around Beijing, got them double quick to charge down the Berlin sea-route and of course nuking Berlin again...







THE WORLD... has been CONVULSED by WAR. Many greater and powerful CIVILIZATIONS have fallen, but YOU (and Sejong!) have truimphed... and emerged victorious!

The WORLD will long remember your GLORIOUS TRIUMPH!

Indeed, but I'd wager it was the lack of space than anything else than made them so... slow.

For now, I'm going for some Late Era start game as Korea, with their special H'wacha and Turtle Ship. This will be on Renaissance Start, because its the last kind of late era start where one can still get religion and unique units from militaristic CS.



We started off on a coast next to a mountain (not shown yet), but the first civilization we met was Gandhi.

We are also going down Banking because that will be the fastest route to Industrialization.



Then we made friends with the Mahatma when he decides to show a force of arms... (???) It turns out that he was trying to conquer Tyre to the east!



Only problem was that this opened him up to a variety of DOWs from unsavory characters like



and



Then to the far north, the Austrians were taken by surprise when they too were caught off-guard by Catherine!



Our first and only named H'wacha



Just as it looked like the Austrians were gaining a upper hand on India, Gandhi whips out a bunch of Gatling guns. The poor Austrian musketmen never knew what hit them.



The Austrians and the Aztecs eventually made peace with the industrial might of India, and they set about plotting against me instead.

Never to fear, friends kept rolling into my sleeves.



Funny thing - we were first in Literacy, we told the Austrians to stop spying on us when they stole a tech from us and they apparently agreed. Then when we sent in our own watcher...



So they did move back their spy to their capital, much to our consternation



Then a City-State, Valletta, who could give us Norwegian Ski Infantry if we chose to ally them, asked us to denounce Montezuma. We did just that, and the results were amazing to say the least





... or maybe he was just deceptive. Hmm...



Austrians basically went down the bottom techs, which is bad news if we want to declare war on them



Ah yes, we have also met the other folks from the faraway lands of Achaemenid and Nippon... and him.

Snake Gandhi (we just made that up but who knows)





At this point, the Joseon Dynasty was basically dancing to the lullaby of isolationism. It was way ahead of everyone else in Technology and Literacy - when people think of the Atomic Bomb in this world, they remember Sejong the Wise who completed the Manhattan Project

The year was 1840AD. It was a time of great innovation and prosperity, and of the inevitable march towards a worldwide conflagration



The Austrians never liked us, therefore they decided to hammer the point home this close to Daegu





Demands were made against the wretched Holy Roman empress to stop her aggressive campaign of buying and turning all the city-states (this was her first, to our knowledge) into her Austrian Industrial Powerhaus, but she simply refused with a enigmatic smile.



So we had no choice but to take a detour into an extremely unfortunate direction





Her skeleton garrison in Genoa was easily swept aside with the thunderous roar of four battlewagons



Meanwhile, the Russians decided to go for extreme settling, possibly in prelude to war against Montezuma



The state of our lands



Our glorious submarines, the first in this world, patrolling the western seas close to the Aztecs



The Austrians tried reinforcing their fallen stronghold in Genoa, and they were quickly met with a broadside



Unfortunately, things got seriously bad at this point

It looks like this could turn out like your game right after G&K came out, where you had it out with Austria so badly.

Its proving to be quite the war, mainly because I was trying (too hard) to keep an isolationist stance. Then I remembered what happened to Japan when Admiral Perry came over...



Unlike Tokugawa's Japan, Sejong Korea is an extremely advanced nation well beyond the peerage of everyone else in this world



But we were indeed in a Sakoku

Laws could not be broken, even if the barbaroi didn't understand them





Meanwhile, Snake Gandhi shows his displeasure at the Joseon Dynasty... possibly due to building wonders and being ahead of everyone



Tyre was a threat no more, and the isolationist circle was complete



So fast that Sejong was literally blown off his feet when the news came through the Aethernet



So for a lump sum of 369, we paid off Snake Gandhi to have a go at his old nemesis Darius.



The war with the Aztecs was initially a lackluster one. Outside of a few sightings of Aztec riflemen or Lancers along the southeastern borders, most of the fighting took place west of Tlatelolco



Despite the massive disparity in kills the Joseon submariners were racking, Monty was pretty adamant in winning a war against a nuclear power



Austrian marriages, now with uraniums



On another show, the Persians and Russians declared war on my neighbor Gandhi. Persia managed to take the only other city Gandhi has besides his cap...



Only for them to take it back a couple turns later



Our first missile cruiser, loaded to the brim with a special present for Monty and named after someone we forgot to thank due to massive posts here (thank you ense7en!)



Joseon had an absurdly staggering kill rate against Aztec Privateers and Frigates, but now "Happy Time" was over

Apparently now Monty decides to get all serious and start pumping out modern units instead of the galleas and privateers he had previous spammed



1915AD - world's first nuclear strikes, against Teotihuacan, Texcoco and Tlatelolco





"We must not let war define us," says Montezuma the Terrible. "Let us return to peace..."



Maria Theresa wishes to return to peace, but Sejong refuses - knowing that she would get much more bigger through city-state marriages and with an eye on the (hypothetical) treasuries of Vienna



Then something else buzzed - someone else was finally constructing the Manhattan!



1917AD: Another nuclear strike on the Aztecs, this time at their capital Tenochtitlan



Nobunaga declares war on Snake Gandhi, while the missile cruiser ense7en goes in to hammer Tlatelolco



But between Aztec bombers/fighters and rocket artillery, it sunk a couple turns later



Somewhere else on the map, Austria marries another CS we haven't met, boosting her chances for Time Victory



In response to the sinking of ense7en and this newfound knowledge of Austrian supremacy, Sejong orders another pair of nuclear strikes on the Aztecs

It was 1924AD





But Monty was still unfazed... so Sejong ordered his military advisor to draw up plans for an invasion of Aztec southern holdings. Starting with a nuclear barrage

Even as the war against the Aztecs escalated to the nth absurd, all was not well for Sejong and his standing throughout the world.

The first was Russian supposed "Neutrality"



An agent in Moscow confirmed that Catherine was indeed planning future operations against the Joseon Dynasty



Then Maria Theresa decided enough was enough, it was her time to smash friend and neighbor Gandhi so she could properly get at us



Then Moscow agent reported something more substantial, and the war coming ever closer to home was ignored...



What the military advisor was saying:



Then ground operations against southern Aztec holdings commenced with the taking of Valletta



The navy was essential for supporting the advance, before a rocket artillery arrived on-scene



Ah... that is so much more simpler



Montezuma had finally seen the wisdom of signing the Versailles Treaty, but Sejong refused.

When asked by his economic minister why, he responded: "they still have 6000 gold in their treasury"

(not shown: Maria Theresa completes the Manhattan Project, the last would be Catherine)



But his wants did not correlate with the reality of the situation, when the Persians suddenly and deliberately lashed out



We managed to take Tlaxacala, but then Persian ally Sidon marches in... and on the borders, ominous signs pointed to another intervention...



Initial battle against the Persian fleet sent against Tyre was not good



Then finally, the Russian Bear enters the war against Joseon





Sejong finally decided to take up Montezuma's offer while it still existed. Eventually, the crazed Aztecs will declare war against little Joseon, and that would be Monty's undoing.



A nuclear munition intended for Tenochtitlan was now diverted to Yaroslavl'



Followed by smashing the Sidonese



Despite losing a promoted Battleship off Tyre, the Joseon fleet was able to rally against further incursions through this use of a Privateer Destroyer





An ally was gained through the completion of CN Tower in Seoul (and some good ol' fashioned bribery)



This was followed by a nuclear strike on Persepolis




Now, which of these 3 Industrial policies should Sejong take - Freedom, Order or Autocracy? I would normally take Autocracy, but this is getting old and everyone is doing it this days and I want to do something else different... so what do my fellow readers say, eh?

They were essentially stuck in a classic "surround" start - imagine if you were circled by Askia, Hiawatha, Ramkhamhaeng and Napoleon. That was basically what India faced, except it got worse since Austria has a strong UU in the early Industrial. But I remembered my Germany Immortal game in Vanilla, where they were the warmongers who took out Songhay and England and "covets my lands"... thus I figure this was the real "peaceful" Gandhi (instead of Gustavus Adolphus Snake Gandhi there).

Actually... I think my neighbor was actually the GOOD Gandhi. Snake Gandhi was the real, genuine evil twin who would have nuked Moctezuma if he could (he didn't, Monty was lucky, but that's because someone else took the brunt of his arsenal instead). Thusly, Snake Gandhi was the power hungry tyrant with modifiers like "covets your lands" and "covets your wonders", and would randomly declare war on his neighbors for giggles (read: gold)...

Evil. Literally oozing with evil juice.



There was a lot of events before that, but I'm just skipping most of them and getting to the interesting ones. We made unconditional peace with Maria Theresa, while she turned on Catherine to the north and also Montezuma at the same time.



A look at Austrian Bucharest before the fall of Rostov.

Though if there is one thing I hate, its friends who don't back each other up



By stabbing me in the back like this, the real Gandhi was setting himself up for an eventual takeover - he was not a friend anymore, but rather a threat and the last thing I want on the borders of my isolationist empire is a threat.

So we got a modicum amount of forces ready... and then Gandhi told us it was a terrible mistake (???)

The only mistake I can see was of his own doing. He needed to be shown the liberating light of Songun and Juche



We rapidly rolled up Vijayanagara, but the Republic was intent on taking it back from the evil communists



But this was when Songun Prime rolled up on their front - and for all the degrading things I say about GDRs, they are extremely tough and handy mounted units to have in the post-Atomic age.



Their Atomic Era units could not hold up, and at this point, I can safely say this game is kinda a sit back and relax event



We also eventually made peace with Darius (no loot) and Catherine...

Then both Snake Gandhi and his mistress declared war on the Democratic People's Empire of Joseon





So we began pushing into Salzburg with some nukes



It looks like Monty was racing us for the goods too. We couldn't let the fascists beat us to it



More nukes being used:

Heavy fighting on the way to Vienna. The road to Austria was paved with blood - we lost an entire unit of Paratroopers



Austrians meanwhile tried to make a safe retreat through a marriage... a bad move, given that she was also at war with Oda Nobunaga to the south



Forcing our way into the defenses of Vienna:



The GDR was an extremely durable unit compared to everything else.



Then we smashed into Graz and razed it to the ground, and at this point, the Austrians still didn't want to give up



So Chairman Sejong initiated another nuclear strike on Linz/Bucharest



and liberated Budapest



One of glorious socialist nuke boats being boxed in by capitalists pigs Snake Gandhi's heinous forces of crime. He died a Comrade's death



We also took back Rostov for the ungrateful Russian comrades, and fortified our DMZ with the Aztec fascisti with this lone "McGuyver"



At this point in time, Snake Gandhi tried creeping up the heartland of Songun (he should have just nuked it first, but the AI is just funny...)



Results will be displayed in sequence:







He lost all of them. Not a single one of his invasion force survived to escape from North Korea Greater Joseon

Also, that opened up some really sweet peace deals



And I'll just end this here because of the annoying 30-pics-per-post limit and after this it was basically cruise control to a Time Victory. No more wars for us to elucidate and spout on...

I think I'm going to try a Small Map something something next. Or go back Emperor to run some science experiments...

I was kinda bored and decided to have two versions of the same civ in-game. I remembered random games of Empire Earth 2 where my opponents would tend to consist of "3 Japans, 2 British, 3 Koreans, random civs". If I was able to run a Huge game with 22 civs, I would no doubt just put some of them as the same civ of one another.



It's a random continents map, but instead of having two equal continents with four civs each, its this randomized almost historical map... I wish my generator would run more of this types often.




in case you are wondering, this are tripwire forces meant to spring into action if Monty decides to be cute.

Why do I believe that?

I'm 2nd in military ranking. Oda Nobunaga has way over 1.3 million soldiers, which makes him first and foremost the military topdog of this game. And what does Monty do?



"Walk softly, but always carry a big stick," a famous American fellow once said. I believe that. Having a nuclear and substantial naval force close to Tenochtitlan was essential to preserving peace against wanton Aztec aggression.

Nuclear Deterrence!
