SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

Oh, and please try to make sure that Woodie 2 stays on forests/jungles. Woodie 3 is such a useful promo (it gives us a medic with almost the same healing powers as a Medic 3 great general).

Roger Wilco! :salute:

I shall begin play shortly. Please make sure the appropriate deities have been appeased.

Goats and chickens have been dispatched to the greater glory

OK - I've played to t71. No surprises so far. The GLH will be finished in GP Farm next turn, so it is ours.

One issue I wanted to check before finishing. I switched the build in Paris to a granary 1 turn late (on t70 rather than t69). I can still 2 pop whip the granary this turn but the overflow will be only 9 hammers into the lighthouse. Should I whip this turn or delay until next turn?

Excellent news!

Delay the whip, get as much overflow as possible.
It probably doesn't matter at all.

Thanks! I will finish up, upload, and post a report.

We haven't met anyone else yet, BTW, and our WB is pretty far south.

I've modified the micro to reflect what you did, and now I am trying to repeat it for the test save.

Turnset: turns 58-72

The save has been uploaded. All went according to plan (except one micro screw-up on my part).

Mission accomplished:

Spoiler :
Unusual80.jpg

Nothing unusual (or interesting) happened during this turnset. Our eastern exploring WB discovered what looks like the southern end of our continent:

Spoiler :
Unusual82.jpg

Brennus' core cities appear to be well to our south. I did not see any of his units during the turnset. The WB did see his culture borders. No other AIs appeared.

Our settler is 1 turn away from the Clams city site. However there is a barb warrior wandering around down there:

Spoiler :
Unusual81.jpg

I tried to bait the barb into following our fogbusting warrior away towards the west, but we will have to wait until next turn to see if he moves that way. Woody2 is just south of the barb city.

Thanks. Sorry about that. I managed to not forget that in multiple tests runs.

Edit: I changed the Paris tile assignments for turns 71 & 72 to be accurate.

Very nice Trystero. We like no surprises.

Thoughts:
- One of the AI does appear to have a massive population for some reason. Any guesses why?
- Brennus is not coastal, which is a little bit of a disappointment.
- Woodie 2 might have to swing South East to fogbust the jungle south of Clams, just for a few turns.

edit: and don't worry about the micro, I tried 4 times before I got it right for this test save! We have all made mistakes, and we will make many more.

The bad thing (or maybe this is a good thing) is that we did not get too much new information. The next turnset should probably continue with the previous plan to explore and try for The Oracle.

Edit:

The roster has been updated. Revent, you are up!

  • ChrisShaffer - (t0-31)
  • neilmeister - (t32-57)
  • Trystero - (t58-72) - just played
  • Revent - UP!
  • Benginal - skipped for now
  • SteelHorse - on deck
  • vra379971
  • Deckhand
  • Brian Shanahan

Yes I agree.

The west coast WB will be done in 6 turns I think, so then we will know what goodies that barb city has.

The wonder dates in the test game are significantly slower than the real save, Oracle is going to be a real fingers-crossed affair.

edit: the population thing seems normal actually. The test save has 1 AI with a size 7 city, and a very similar population.

Espionage is currently 260 vs 207.
Last save was 200 vs 147.
So, we have both added 60 esp since then.

I'm not too experienced using espionage, but I think it might have been a mistake to make him esp rank 1 before we met anyone else. Since then, I think he has put 100% on us. Unless of course the mapmaker gave them castles or something.

The graph makes it look like he is accumulating EP faster than we are. I am not sure if the AI alters his esp focus in response to the player. Regardless, we can run espionage slider for a turn or so to steal IW if need be.

Maybe we should put the Paris whip overflow into a chariot?
- Brennus is not coastal, which is a little bit of a disappointment.
If he had been, we wouldn't have been able to sail past him and find our copper. :mischief:

Until we meet someone else, it would default to 100% on him anyway. I say leave it on him and then reconsider when we meet someone.
It is really looking like the two of us are alone. I don't understand how we got 53 points ahead of him. Can't think of why he wouldn't split his espionage if there wassomeone else. Buddhism is only 4% (15/17% for Hindu/Judaism) so it is unlikely it has spread to a possible neighbor. We need 117% for missions against him, which I interpret as him having spent more on us. But what is the 107/260?

Yep. OK, he has a neighbor and was gifted a great spy (pre settled?) by our most trustworthy map maker.

Ah, kcd is making it more challenging to tech steal from our nearest neighbor. Tricky devil.

Something like that makes sense. He must be spiltting his esp points, its just that his split matches our 100%.

I suppose we should have expected something like this, considering the must steal tech requirement.
