Oh, and please try to make sure that Woodie 2 stays on forests/jungles. Woodie 3 is such a useful promo (it gives us a medic with almost the same healing powers as a Medic 3 great general).
I've modified the micro to reflect what you did, and now I am trying to repeat it for the test save.
Espionage is currently 260 vs 207.
Last save was 200 vs 147.
So, we have both added 60 esp since then.
I'm not too experienced using espionage, but I think it might have been a mistake to make him esp rank 1 before we met anyone else. Since then, I think he has put 100% on us. Unless of course the mapmaker gave them castles or something.
If he had been, we wouldn't have been able to sail past him and find our copper.- Brennus is not coastal, which is a little bit of a disappointment.

Yep. OK, he has a neighbor and was gifted a great spy (pre settled?) by our most trustworthy map maker.The graph makes it look like he is accumulating EP faster than we are. I am not sure if the AI alters his esp focus in response to the player. Regardless, we can run espionage slider for a turn or so to steal IW if need be.
