Capto Iugulum

Sadly this NES isn't holding quite the same interest that it used to for me, so I hereby am announcing my resignation as the United Kingdom. Doing orders has started to become a chore and I do not have any coherent long-term goals that I feel very into. To be honest it's wasted potential and I'd rather focus my efforts on my own projects.

I'd be happy to help EQ find a replacement for the UK, but I'm sure he is more than suited to find someone suitable of his own accord.

I apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

OOC-Crezth: What about throwing your full support behind the Second Union to stabilize (I'm guessing -2 stab this round) the remnants of a now Republican USA, then assisting it's reunification with the politically available means and finally offering a generous loan package to revivify it back into a great power? That's certainly both difficult and worthwhile for the English-speaking world of CI, as a whole.

I heartily endorse Circuit for the role.

JAPANESE PILOT MAKES HISTORIC FLIGHT. Honolulu, Hawaii. Yohei Takahashi, a Japanese noble from an ancient family has been one of the few of those islands to take up education with various German aviation firms. Using a plane designed especially for him by a German aircraft company, Takahashi has become the first man to fly across the Pacific Ocean. With the support of the Japanese government and makeshift landing fields on Wake and Midway Islands, the pilot managed to fly multiple short flights across Japan's Pacific empire. Ultimately, he landed in Hawaii, and from there, flew nonstop to a landing strip in southern Jacksonia. The flight has been noted for its historical importance, and has done much to build support for an imperial air arm in Japan, to support aircraft and their military potential. Takahashi has campaign loudly in the halls of the emperor for the establishment of an air arm for the military, and this particular journey has done much to cement his credibility as a aeronautical expert.

EARTHQUAKES SHAKE BULGARIA. Sofia, Bulgaria. The Eastern European nation of Bulgaria was devastated by a series of violent earthquakes measuring between 8 and 9 on the Carter scale. The earthquakes are considerably massive and have been the largest measured on the new record system which has only been in place a few years. The earthquakes have caused thousands of deaths, and hundreds of thousands have been left without food or housing in the wake of the disaster. Martial law has been declared, but the turmoil remains as people grow increasingly lawless and desperate in the more rural regions of the nation. The Bulgarian government has pledged to begin a rebuilding and reconstruction effort immediately, in the hopes of staving off further unrest or chaos from the earthquakes. The military has been placed upon high alert, fearful that the natural disaster could spur rebellious sentiment in the small nation. (-4 Manpower, -1 Stability)

ELECTIONS IN SWITZERLAND. St Gallen, Switzerland. New elections have been held in Switzerland this year, and they have proven to be fairly unremarkable, as the Swiss National Party continued to maintain a commanding lead in all regions of the nation. The small Central European nation has proven its relative stability and levelheadedness with tame debates and arguments, focused upon the continued platforms of the nationalists towards Confederate Switzerland. The majority of the populace seems to remain directed at freeing their brethren from Confederate rule, and thus the Swiss National Party has secured its position once more. These elections have been the most notable for the first time inclusion of woman voters in the political process, after female suffrage was legalized in 1918. The women voters have done little to change the politics of Switzerland, serving rather as a footnote to the local elections more than anything else.

BRITISH ELECTIONS HELD. London, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Parliamentary elections were held throughout the whole of the British isles, offering a new chance to express the voices of the people. The main issues brought up by the Union Jacks against the controlling Labour Party have been the continued tolerance of colonial demonstrations and autonomy like those in Australia and South Africa. The Union Jacks have charged that the Labour Party has allowed too many demonstrations in those regions, and have risked losing control of parts of the empire to rampant nationalist groups. The Labour Party have mostly dismissed these claims, and have pointed to the soaring economy and new rights granted to the British people under their leadership. Their case has remained very strong, and the economy continued to grow, thus assuring them the majority in Parliament once again.

NEW ITALIAN MOVEMENT RISES IN CORSICA. Ajaccio, Corsica. The subsiding of the Brothers of Italy in recent years in Corsica and Sardinia has led to that organization becoming all but defunct upon those two islands. Unfortunately, a new pan-Italian movement has arisen in Corsica, this time with heavy ties to various proletarist groups. Claiming that the unification of Italy would be best for the workers of Corsica, the United Italian Front has emerged and begun building up support among Corsican unions. Claiming that the island has a symbiotic political and economic relationship with a unified Italian nation, the UIF has vowed to use any means needed to bring about Corsican control under the Kingdom of Italy. The new organization has been declared illegal by King Sampiero III, who states that it violates laws against proletarist political parties. Several key members have been arrested, but they have retained a foothold in Corsica regardless.

WOMEN GAIN THE RIGHT TO VOTE IN DENMARK AFTER PROTESTS. Copenhagen, Denmark. The return to rule for the Social Democratic Party in 1918 has led to a restoration of confidence for the women of Denmark. This year a series of large scale marches and protests emerged calling for the right to vote for Danish women of the proper age. During the time of the Free People's Party, the suffragette movement was ironically suppressed, and most agitators were arrested before they could do much damage. Eager to show their compliance and will to serve the people, these new protests encouraged the Danish legislature to bring to bear the right to vote for women. The Social Democratic Party, thanks to the majority it currently holds, managed to pass the bill and give themselves a large number of new voters from the population. Suffragettes have applauded the government's movement, but they have also promised that they will not blindly vote for those who gave them the new political power, but are every bit as capable as making intelligent decisions as men.

FINAL PROLETARISTS ROUNDED UP IN HUNGARY. Budapest, Hungary. With the horrors and devastation of the Second Hungarian Civil War still fresh in the mind of the people, there has been a rising tide of hatred for the proletarist cause. The monarchy has successfully instilled the idea that the proletarists were to blame for all of Hungary's woes both during and after the Great War. Over the course of this year, thanks to a number of sympathizers among the population, a massive purge took place as civilians took it upon themselves to identify and bring justice to those who fought for the proletarists. Though an amnesty had nominally been offered to the proletarist army's soldiers after the war, it has not stood up under the scorn of their neighbors. The result has been a growing number of mob beatings and random attacks, which has led to a new exodus from Hungary. Allegedly for their own protection, Hungarian proletarists have been placed in local prisons and jails, and under guard by the military. Thanks to these new developments, it seems that proletarism in Hungary is at last in its death throes. (+1 Stability)

CARDINAL DENOUNCES "TANGO." Rome, Papal State. The fairly moderate positions of Pope Paul VI have not gone unnoticed by the cardinals and other members of the Catholic Church. Despite his constant preaching against the evils of the modern world, particularly liberalism and proletarism, some are still uncomfortable with his moderate past. The result has been several speeches by a cardinal taking a tack far from criticism, but opening new ground not yet addressed by the Papacy itself. The cardinal has denounced the so-called "tango," an Argentine style of music and dance which has arrived in Europe over the past couple of years. Popular among a variety of clubs, the tango has been proclaimed to be an evil dance, causing loose morals and promiscuity among youth, especially women. While the Pope himself has yet to comment upon the new thoughts in the Church, many are awaiting his position upon the tango and its effects upon the world's morals.

REVOLT IN ALBANIA. Tirana, Roman Empire. Despite the successes of the past few years in rebuilding the wreckage of the Roman Empire, it seems that not all are pleased with the return of central power in Constantinople. With constant new restrictions and drains upon the local economy placed upon them throughout the course of the various wars and reconstruction efforts, the people of Albania had enough after the arrest of a prominent local nationalist writer this year. A revolt emerged as a mob of people stormed the prison and freed the writer, and Albanian members of the local garrisons mutinied. The rebels managed to win major popular support, especially after winning several of the opening battles against the Roman legions. The Romans were not amused at this development, having effectively lost control of the province, and brought overwhelming might down to bear upon the Albanian rebels. Outnumbered and without heavy equipment, the Albanians were smashed by the Roman forces, and the rebellion was crushed with heavy casualties and damages on both sides. The tensions remain though, having disrupted the return to peace, as the Albanians remain mostly hostile and angry against their Roman overlords. SPANISH CRISIS BROUGHT TO AN END. Toledo, Spain. At last, the brutal civil war which has devastated Spain and the resulting expanded conflict in Europe has been brought to an abrupt end. After last year's defeats of the monarchist forces and the military confrontation between the Franco-Burgundian Confederation and Germany, it seems that all parties are at last prepared to negotiate. The new accords signed at the Spanish city of Toledo have brought to an end the hostilities involving some of the greatest powers of continental Europe. The peace has been surprisingly lenient to all involved, as an essential "white peace" has been established between the Confederation and Germany. The situation in Spain itself has been more involved, as the monarchists and the Imperial Congress have at last met to discuss the situation and form a new constitution to replace the old. With new elections pending to determine the fate of Iberia, the new peace has been a hard won victory in most people's eyes for the Congress and their cause.

CONSTITUTION BEGETS NEW SPANISH PLEBISCITE. Madrid, Spain. The end of the Second Spanish Civil War has come with a new constitution which is essentially an extension of old reforms, eliminating all but the last remote vestiges of the emperor's power. The constitution also has further consolidated power within Spain itself, ending the old Viceroyalty system, which had been thrown into tatters by the Great War and ensuing conflicts anyways. With the passing of the new constitution, amnesty has been granted to all involved in the fighting of the war, though the terms remain silent on those involved with the proletarist uprising in 1917. This year new elections have been held, as the conservative and liberal elements of Spanish society campaign to once more secure true power and control over the new posting of Prime Minister and the revitalized Congress. To no one's real surprise, despite a spirited propaganda campaign, the Unión Liberal Española triumphed, having managed to undercut the contributions of the United Front with their own involvement. The conservative Comunión Tradicional Española has managed to maintain at least some of its influence, but it is clear that currently, power rests in the hands of the liberals.

OCCITANIA COMPLETES RECONSTRUCTION PHASE TWO. Toulouse, Occitania. The Occitanian government was pleased to announce the completion of phase two of the national reconstruction effort from the Great War. Though critics have claimed that the latest phase of reconstruction consisted of unnecessary improvements, the government pressed forwards regardless, to finish new roads and railroads. These modern new causeways have provided new work and labor to the nation, but seemed to have done little for the national economy, as critics feared. On the other hand, they have been immensely helpful to the military, who views the new infrastructure as a significant aid against any future invasion of Occitania that could occur.

MANNERHEIM LINE COMPLETED. Helsinki, Scandinavia. A series of massive modern new defenses have been at last constructed along the border of Russia and Scandinavia, a move which Syndic Mannerheim claims will protect the revolution indefinitely. The new line, named after the Syndic himself, has been stated to have taken all of the lessons and knowledge of the Great War and the following conflicts into account. The fortifications include prebuilt entrenchments, fallback lines, massive bunkers with artillery dwarfing that on all but the heaviest of battleships. The defenses have taken advantage of numerous natural chokepoints, blocking the access into Karelia and Finland, hoping to bring any Russia attempt at invasion into disaster. The Mannerheim Line is planned to be supplemented by a military exclusive railroad, which will be able to rapidly deploy reinforcements and railroad based artillery to any point in the line. Military theorists across Europe say that the new line is quite likely impregnable, thus securing at least Scandinavia from the threat of Russian invasion.

INFLUX OF FUNDS PROVIDES FOR PIEDMONT RECONSTRUCTION. Grenoble, Franco-Burgundian Confederation. The conclusion of the war between the Confederation and Germany has brought about the evacuation of German soldiers from the occupied Confederate kingdom of Piedmont. The war had unfortunately brought with it some limited damage of the local infrastructure, as bridges were demolished and city fighting caused urban destruction. The damages were fortunately fairly light when compared to similarly embattled regions created by the recent crisis. Therefore, an extensive amount of funding has been immediately directed at providing reconstruction and the restoration of the region to its prewar economic status. The funds have been immediately put to work, and by the end of the year, some areas could already say that they can no longer see the scars of war on the land.

News from the Americas

DEEP SEA FISHING DISPUTE. Caracas, Venezuela. The recent multiple exchange of territories throughout the southern Caribbean has led to growing disputes between local deep sea fishermen from a variety of nations. The current argument has finally reached newspapers' front pages as the tactics of all involved have escalated. This has particularly focused upon a murder trial which has been launched in two nations, which resulted from the death of a Hispaniolan fishing crew at the hands of one from Venezuela. Due to a fluke of nature, the Venezuelan crew was divided and arrested in both Venezuela and in Hispaniola. The nature of the violent crime has brought this to the forefront of local politics, as none of the parties in the region have been able to agree upon where territorial boundaries are in the local waters. Puerto Rico and Jamaica have had similar interests in the region, and the boundary disputes have mounted with no clear end in sight. Negotiations have begun between the four nations, as they attempt to settle the disagreements to stave off the possibility of regional violence or the involvement of other nations.

AZTEC ELECTIONS HELD. Oaxaca, Aztlan. The Aztecs held new elections this year, and they featured a surprising upset, as the Party of Tradition faced significant challenge from the liberal Democratic Party. Using recent deterioration of relations with Japan as an example, the Democratic Party has campaigned on the platform of ending the nation's involvement with the Pacific Concord and breaking free of that. They have claimed that the Pacific Concord restricted the economic and political potential of the Aztec people and was merely a bulwark against peace and prosperity in the Americas. The Party of Tradition, for its part, completely bungled their defense and campaign, marching from one gaffe to the next, alienating a large part of the electorate. Therefore, when the time came to vote, the Aztecs turned out in surprisingly large numbers to vote for the Democratic Party, bringing in a new era for Aztec politics. (+1 Stability)

ELECTIONS IN CHILE. Santiago, Chile. As elsewhere in the Americas, the Pacific Concord was the most highly disputed topic in the political campaigns of Chilean elections. The Chileans have faced growing pressure from Argentine economic interests as well as other foreign groups attempting to compete with the Peruvian and Japanese dominance in the South American nation. President Pablo Montoya has remained closely tied to both Japan and Peru, remaining a firm ally against the Brazilian and Argentine threat. He has stated that the Pacific Concord is Chile's best hope at preserving independence from the other powers of South America in the long run. His opposition in the liberal Democratic Party have argued against this, pointing out the booming prosperity of Argentina and Brazil. Despite running free campaigns in previous elections, it has become clear that these elections cast significantly more doubt upon the Montoya presidency. Though the president once more won reelection, it has been charged that he did so only through dirty politics and intimidation tactics, building up new resentment among the masses. (-1 Stability)

CUBAN ELECTIONS HELD. Havana, Cuba. Elections in Cuba were highly disputed as the American expatriate population begun agitating once more, and throwing their unified weight around in local politics. They have begun stating that with the large American population in Cuba, the island should fall under the governance of the newly forged Second Union. The claims were further reinforced with the proletarist landings throughout the island and the growing guerilla war with the new insurgents. The Americans marched and called for their own candidates to be elected, but this had an unfortunate backlash from the natural Cuban population. The Democratic Party has firmly established itself as standing against American annexation of Cuba and the proletarists of the north, and have won the elections handily, unifying the Cuban people behind them. ECUADOR HOLDS FIRST NEW ELECTIONS. Quito, Ecuador. For the first time since the toppling of the proletarist government by the armies of Colombia and Peru, new elections have been held for the South American nation of Ecuador. With the proletarist parties illegalized by the occupation administration and the new monarchy under King Manuel, new movements have been created with the support of foreign observers. The illegalization of the proletarists have led to liberal leaders adopting many of the former tenets and ideals of the defunct organization. Pledging to act within the realm of the current constitution, the new National Social Party has pledged to enact social reforms and build a better life for the Ecuadorian worker. Promising to put the needs of the people over foreign businesses, the new legislature has not won many friends among Ecuador's neighbors but is highly popular among the masses. (+1 Stability)

ELECTIONS HELD IN JACKSONIA. Jefferson, Jacksonia. The nation of Jacksonia held their constitutionally mandated elections this year, only their second since secured independence from the United States of America. The absorption of the Allied Territories of America and the Treaty of Atlanta created many new concerns about the security of the Jacksonian people from any future aggression from the Second Union. These concerns have led to heated debates as the ruling liberal Progressive Party came under attack for alleged inaction towards security the nation's borders and coastline. The conservative Party of Order has pushed forward with a campaign playing off the insecurity of the people, and have pledged to build up the military capacity of the nation. They have promised stronger ties and a better economy with less regulation and interference from the government. These pledges proved enough to win them the presidency, but they have continued to face a hostile Congress, where they were unable to seize a majority. The result has become a highly divided political system and vicious feuds among Jacksonia's rulers. (-1 Stability)

PERUVIAN ELECTIONS HELD. Lima, Peru. As foreshadowed by rising discontent with the government's economic policies, the elections in Peru this year were focused upon the normalization of economic ties with Argentina and Brazil versus retaining a strong economic and political alliance with Japan. The Party of Order raised the stakes by releasing a number of alleged diplomatic correspondence in which the Brazilian minister pledged to wage a war of extermination upon the Peruvian people. With numerous large business interests still highly invested in the relationship with Japan, the Party of Order continued to maintain its base of support. Though there was the signs of discontent continuing to demonstrate in the eastern provinces of the kingdom, they have failed to gain any substantial holdings in the national legislature. For the time being it seems that the effort to maintain distance from Brazil and Argentina has remained secure and with it, the political position of the Party of Order.

ELECTIONS HELD IN URUGUAY. Montevideo, Uruguay. The government of Uruguay has faced momentous change this year, with the arrival and conclusion of the regular election cycle. The elections focused on issues of morality this year, as the rise in the "Rosario culture" has been alleged to threaten the youth and moral fiber of the Uruguayan nation. The liberal Party of Order has long maintained the natural rights and freedoms of the population, while the Uruguayan Morality Party has garnered the support of the Papacy and the Catholic Church. Their candidates pledged to resist the corruption of national tradition and beliefs, and bring moralism and faith back to the government. The Party of Order had a very lackluster response to this campaign, and even began to fracture of its own accord. The collapse of the Party of Order came unexpectedly as varying personalities led to a split, which resulted in the exile of a large number of members to various social proletarist parties. Thanks to the chaos among the nation's liberals, the Morality Party managed to win the nation's presidency, and a new political day dawns for Uruguay. (-1 Stability)

VINLANDER ELECTIONS HELD. Nya Stockholm, Vinland. The position held by the Social Democratic Party of Vinland was a moderate one, bringing together a number of disparate groups and political movements, and hoping to preserve some stability. The end of the American crisis to the south has led to a shift back in Nya Stockholm, leading to the Social Democrats facing substantially more challenge from the electorate. Though Grim Magnusson has been lauded for his handling of the nation during the crisis, the Social Proletarist Party has risen once more and claimed that under further Social Democratic rule, the rights of the worker were besieged. They claimed that the continued rule of the Social Democrats would only lead Vinland to new disaster in lieu of any continuing crisis, and have mustered support for their cause. With a few of the more liberal members of the government defecting back to the social proletarists, they have managed to once again secure a majority in Vinland's legislature, though many outsiders believe that the hold is tenuous at best.

DEATH OF THE EMPEROR OF BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. To the bereavement of the Brazilian people, the much loved Emperor Joao II passed away this year, quite unexpectedly, despite his old age. Emperor Joao II ascended to the Brazilian throne with the death of Empress Isabel in 1904, and helped lead his nation through the Great War and its aftermath. The Emperor's rule has been widely considered to be just, though he remained the symbol of oppression to Brazil's social and traditional proletarists. To them, however, the late emperor was a raging liberal compared to his son. The newly proclaimed Emperor Pedro III is a notorious reactionary, and is known to be incredibly more conservative than his father. This has been widely attributed to various ties he made during his education and his time serving in the military. While possessing numerous friends in the aristocracy and military, the new Emperor is despised among the nation's legislature for his radically right leaning views.

MORALISM ON THE RISE IN BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the past few years, it has been noted of an increasing trend to moralistic ideals and politics throughout the nation of Brazil. This year, the movement has finally gained a plain face, as a religious radio station was opened by devout Catholics, and having the largest effective broadcast area in Brazil outside of the government. The new radio station has been called True Christian Broadcasting. Politically supported mostly by members of the nation's Conservative Party, the moralists have emerged as a backlash towards the rapidly changing world. The inclusion of new inventions, including a wild surge in radio stations and cinema, have been viewed as a tool of the devil for corrupting the Brazilian population. They have also been highly against immigrants, particularly from Protestant nations, as they offer their full support for Pope Paul IV and his philosophies. While the moralists have not truly yet crossed the boundaries into politics, they have become an outspoken minority, preaching their word of faith to all who would listen.

PROTESTS FOR LIBERTY IN COSTA RICA. San Jose, Costa Rica. Since gaining their independence from the oppressive New Spanish government of Managua, the regional governor of the former province of Costa Rica has retained absolute wartime powers. Refusing to relinquish these powers in the years since the war, Cesar Mencia has established himself as a tyrant among his people, enriching himself as the masses starve. The military has been allowed to decay and the population has become increasingly agitated towards the rule of the government. This year a series of massive protests were held against President Mencia, calling for him to resign and keep his promises of local democracy that he offered during the fight for independence. It seems that the president's rule could well be unraveling, and it is rumored that the military allowed the protests to continue undisturbed despite Mencia's call for arrest or suppression of the demonstrations. ATTACKS BLEED OCCUPIERS IN ECUADOR. Quito, Ecuador. Colombian and Peruvian forces have begun facing more and more local resistance against their presence in Ecuador this year, as they faced a continued insurgency against them. The rebels have mostly supported the proletarist ideals, and remain the diehard radicals that refuse to support the currently triumphant liberals in the new constitutional process. They have vowed to continue their war against the invaders to the last and have begun operating from both within the major cities and in the jungles outside. It is apparent that they have been avoiding operations against new Ecuadorian troops, choosing instead to focus their firepower upon the foreign forces present. They have proven to be highly effective in their guerilla war, inflicting a growing casualty list upon both Peru and Colombia's armies.
Casualty Lists
Colombia: 2 Infantry Brigades
Peru: 2 Infantry Brigades

REPUBLICANS BUILD SUPPORT IN MAYAN REPUBLIC. Belize, Mayan Republic. After the daring escape from prison in 1917, the Mayan republican leaders fighting against the current military dictatorship have begun building new support both at home and abroad. They have found sympathetic ears to their cause in Aztlan, Honduras, and Jamaica, three steady democracies with a strong tradition. Local individuals have provided money and weapons to the republicans, pledging to provide what support they can within the laws of their own nations. On the home front, the continued oppression of the republicans has allowed the Mayan republicans to continue to build their armies and citadels in preparation for an uprising against the Ceh Peh government. The military junta in Belize has issued a dire warning to both the Aztecs and Hondurans about further involvement in their own political affairs, raising tensions throughout Central America.

MORALISTS GAIN GROUND IN PARAGUAY. Asuncion, Paraguay. With True Christian Broadcasting reaching over borders from Brazil, Paraguay has seen a surprisingly larger political backlash towards new Argentine culture of the cinema. Though the broadcasting has only had limited effect in Brazil itself, it has turned many heads in Paraguay, as the local clergy offers its full support for the moralist ideology. The Catholic Church has gained continued support for the cause, and though the moralists remain a mostly apolitical ideology, they have been campaigning upon tighter restrictions for movies and a moral code for their production. So far the leaders of the reigning Social Democratic Party have been firmly against artistic and creative restrictions, even those imported from other nations. This liberal group has become the primary target of the moralists, who claim they are responsible for the moral decay of their nation.

AZTLAN BUYS PERUVIAN WARSHIPS. Acapulco, Aztlan. The new approach of the Aztec government towards international politics has not diminished the need to protect the Aztec coastline from invasion or attack. Similarly, the need to protect harbors and shipping remains all the more apparent after the blockades and wars seen since the end of the Great War. The Aztecs have thus maintained an agreement to purchase five older destroyers from the Royal Peruvian Navy, giving them a far larger coastal defense force. This has been maintained as a single part of a series of sales of ships from the Peruvian fleets, including the sending of ships as gifts to Ecuador, Vinland, and Japan. The Aztecs have put the ships into use to guard the mostly barren western coastline, providing escorts and aid to fishing boats and trawlers upon that previously undefended coast.

TREATY OF ATLANTA ENDS AMERICAN CONFLICT. Atlanta, United States of America. The American government has at last signed a landmark new treaty with the various governments of the negro proletarist republics. The border has been set, assuring the independence of the three surviving proletarist republics throughout the South. The victory has been clear, with the world's second successful slave rebellion after Jamaica in the nineteenth century. The new truce has granted control of the Atlanta area to the United States, and the Mississippi proletarists have pulled back from their furthest extent of advance and returned the territories to the Americans. The new treaty has allowed for the free passage, regardless of race, along the borders ,which some view as a possibility for future instability and legal issues. Still, the brutal battles which began in 1912 have been brought to a final end, and peace now reigns in North America as new nations are formed and people return to work.

ATA REJOINS THE UNITED STATES. Denver, United States of America. The signing of the Treaty of Atlanta has brought the end of the war in the South, allowing for the finalization of the return of the Allied Territories of America to direct Federal control. As previously recognized by Robert Wallace, the new government in Washington D.C. is the legitimate one known to the various leaders of the Allied Territories. Despite some initial resistance, a compromise has been formed that has allowed the military district system to remain intact for relevant regions. The various leaders and generals commanding these districts have been allowed to retain their commands and are immune to any legal proceedings relating to the recent crisis. The former Great Lakes Republic has been readmitted as legal states within the union, and preparations have begun for the various Congressional offices held by those states in 1920. The Treaty of Atlanta and the return of the Allied Territories has created a plethora of new political issues, which have begun to mount in preparation for next year's national and presidential elections.

BRAZIL FIRST ACT PASSED. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In order to improve the status and living of the people of Brazil, the national Congress has passed the Brazil First Act of 1919. The new act effectively doubles national spending into education and pension for the retired, showing that the government cares for the masses and is focused upon internal well being. The act also provides new money for subsidies towards science and industry, hoping to create new competition and inventions for the global market. To many, the new act seems to state that while the government has been focused abroad over recent years, that this is the beginning of a new direction to focus on the Brazilian people. The education has also placed an emphasis on teaching Portuguese to newly arrived immigrants, as well as helping people learn English for better communication and relations with the nation's close allies of Argentina and the United Kingdom.

UNITED PROLETARISM IN NORTH AMERICA. Chattanooga, United Proletarist Republics of America. The Appalachian, Mississippi, and Tennessee Proletarist Republics have established a unified state for their people this year, as the three governments have at last cemented their status with a new nation. The United Proletarist Republics of America consist of the three republics, and a new government consisting of fifteen elected deputies, five from each republic. The head of state is the new Chief Deputy, who in this case has been the former Tennessee leader Scipio who is widely respected and known as a war hero against the United States. The newly created nation has begun establishing new ties and relations worldwide, creating a fully forged state, though some tensions do remain within. The bulk of political power seems to rest in the hands of Tennessee, causing continuous clashes with representatives from Mississippi. All seem to be dedicated to the common cause however, as the personal friendships remain as created in the fires of war.

PROLETARISTS SPARK NEW BLOODSHED IN THE CARIBBEAN. Kingston, Jamaica. The establishment of the United Proletarist Republics of America have led to a disturbing series of events further south. On the islands of Cuba and Jamaica, various Freedman's Cadres have been spotted in involvement in local attacks. Hoping to rile local support immediately in rebellion against the governments of these two island nations, due to worsening economic conditions, it was hoped that these attacks would spur rebellion. In Cuba, the newly bolstered Cuban fleet, with their new ships from Brazil, managed to intercept and destroy or turn back the proletarist attackers. Some made it ashore, where they have continued to plague Cuban defense forces by guerilla attacks from the jungles. Jamaica proved a bloodier debacle as the Jamaican army essentially resisted an invasion and fought a hard won struggle against the proletarist attack. The army remained loyal and local support failed to materialize in both cases, causing an expensive pair of defeats for the proletarists.
Casualty Lists
Jamaica: 1 Infantry Brigade (+1 Army Quality)
United Proletarist Republics of America: 2 Freedman's Cadres

VENEZUELA BEGINS NEW DEFENSIVE LINE. Caracas, Venezuela. As new rhetoric emerges from Colombia, the Venezuelan government has grown increasingly concerned that the ambitious regime which brought down the proletarists in Ecuador and the Americans in Panama could turn more ambitious eyes to the east. In order to protect the provinces won from Colombia in the nineteenth century, plans and production has begun on a new defensive line said to rival that of even the Mannerheim Line in Europe. The fortifications include ample new border defenses and bunkers, as well as a selection of new coastal forts to protect against naval raids. While not actually as intensive as the Mannerheim Line, the new defense is slated to consist of numerous strong points to dominate any potential Colombian advance with overwhelming firepower. Current plans are for the completion of the line by 1925.

News from Africa and the Middle East

KING OF AZERBAIJAN DIES. Baku, Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani people mourned the death of their beloved King Samad this year, as he at last passed away after several years of ill health. The late king came to the throne in 1868, giving him only a little over fifty years of rule over the small nation in the Caucuses. During the course of King Samad's reign, Azerbaijan went through many tumultuous years, including a number of small border wars and skirmishes with neighboring Georgia. Since Georgia was annexed by Russia at the end of the Great War, King Samad preserved the nation's delicate position between the two expansionist power of Persia and Russia. In recent years, under the advisement of his son, the newly crowned King Ismail II, King Samad brought the nation closer to Persia, building new ties and a defensive agreement. King Ismail II is believed to be a highly devout Muslim, in possession of strong personal ties with the members of the Persian government.

ELECTIONS IN THE PONTIC REPUBLIC. Trebizond, Pontic Republic. Elections in the Pontic Republic proved to be a vicious affair this year, as the Party of Might faced considerable criticism for policy decisions made during the year. The critics of the conservative political group claimed that the new cultural memorial program did too much to once more create a divide between the Turk and Greek populations as well as being a major unneeded expense. This campaign against the newly begun program proved to be highly effective, giving the Party of Might a tough run for their money. The Party of Might still barely managed to retain their majority in government and control of the presidency, maintaining it from the liberal teeming masses. Unfortunately, the criticism of the government had an unfortunate effect, dividing national politics and making them a far more bitter affair. (-1 Stability)

ANTI-WAR RIOTS IN KURDISTAN. Cizre, Kurdistan. As the war against Turkey and the Roman Empire continues with no end in sight, the Kurdish people have had enough of fighting and bloodshed. With barely a break in battle since the end of the Great War, a large protest was held, featuring tens of thousands of wounded veterans and civilians marching against King Alaadin's insistence upon continuing the war against Turkey. The prevailing winds of opinion seem to be that the war has been lost, and that the Kurdish government should take its lumps from the failed battle. They have rallied against the King, and in their protests, a military response ultimately escalated the situation into violent overreaction. The Kurds have clearly begun to lose control at home, and desertions have begun to mount at a rapid pace in the armed forces, particularly upon the conscripted forces. King Alaadin has remained silent on the matter, but many foreigners believe that the growing internal pressure will force him to make a humiliating peace with the Turks. RUSSIAN EFFORTS CAUSE NEW KHAZAK VIOLENCE IN PERSIA. Tehran, Persia. Over the past two years, the Russian army has been successfully hunting down and destroying Khazak towns and villages throughout their Central Asian possessions. This has directly led to a resumption of the war between the Khazak tribes and the Persian army further south. The Khazaks, fleeing the effective massacre of their communities by the Russians and their new weapons, have begun moving in greater mass than ever into Persia's northeastern provinces. They have overwhelmed a number of Persian border outposts through sheer numbers and surged the ranks of those who resisted Persian rule already. The fighting has been vicious and has continued to tear the countryside apart, as the Persian army struggles to maintain control on a region which had been at least momentarily pacified. (-7 Infantry Brigades, -1 Artillery Brigade)

PONTIC REPUBLIC COMPLETES INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT. Trebizond, Pontic Republic. The Pontic government was pleased to announce the completion of the anticipated Infrastructural Development Project this year. Slated as the second phase of a plan which had included the recent completion of the electrification of the Pontic countryside, the project has created numerous new railroads to provide transportation between the nation's main cities. It has also provided revitalized ports and new paved roads throughout the main towns and communities, creating better health and sanitation for the people living there. The success of this project has been followed with a third phase to develop the culture of the nation, including the construction of new statues and artistic creations sponsored by the government. Critics of the new phase state that it is nothing more than an unneeded expense which will drain the coffers of the government with no foreseeable benefits.

ARAB ATTACK RESULTS IN NEW WAR. Muscat, Oman. A new major war has erupted upon the Arabian Peninsula as a disastrous military endeavor by the Arabian Empire launched a bloody conflict. An attempt by the elite Arab Guard to scout out and spy the Omani defensive positions deep within Oman's borders turned into a full battle as both sides escalated into combat, and Arab forces launched a true invasion. Though the Arabs initially had some successes, the Omanis mobilized their armies with time to spear and drew the empire into a brutal fight of attrition through the narrow corridor of their advance. Ultimately, thanks to superior knowledge of the local terrain, Oman's forces managed to draw the Arab forces into a bloody salient, where they concentrated devastating firepower upon them. The Arab artillery was woefully outmatched in terms of qualities and numbers, and after only a few counter barrages, the Arab guns fell silent. The Omanis managed to push back to the border, and the Arabs only barely held their forces together without a rout. Further west, the fighting started between Oman's ally Yemen and the Arabian Empire later, as Yemen issued a declaration of war in support of their friends to the east. The heaviest fighting has been around the town of Jazan as the Yemeni attack was blunted as the Arabs deployed new weapons and tactics. Thanks to airborne reconnaissance, the Arabs were able to anticipate and respond to Yemen's attack, but they were unprepared for the sheer firepower brought against them. Ultimately though the weight of their artillery, the Yemenis were able to shatter the Arab armored detachment and break through the lines, capturing the city and pushing forward up the coast. As the final action of the year, the Omanis and Yemenis closed the Persian gulf to the Arabs with a major naval exercise, putting their new fleets into action. The ramshackle Arab fleet didn't stand a chance, as they only barely managed to scratch the paint of the enemy ships. Elsewhere, the submarines of Oman and Yemen have begun sinking any Arabian flagged transport ship, though they have clearly avoided the vessels of any neutral nation.

OPSIKION RECONSTRUCTION COMPLETE. Cius, Roman Empire. During the crises which followed the Constantinople Event, the region which would be the most hard fought over would be the province of Opsikion. Having temporarily declared independence and preserved this independence for several years, they put up a strong fight against the forces of the new Imperator. The end of the war brought about the latest attempt at reconstruction which has been an ongoing process over the past six years. The reconstruction was finally announced as complete this year, even as the fighting began in Albania against Roman rule. The Imperator lauded the work of the engineers and individuals responsible for the success of the reconstruction, and stated that it is a symbol of the new times and the growing restoration of Roman glory and power.

KURD-TURK WAR CONTINUES. Konya, Turkey. The war between the Turks and the Kurds has continued, once more at a fairly subdued pace after the failure of last year's offensive by Kurdistan. As the Kurdish military faces troubles at home, the front line along the Euphrates has diminished and both powers have retained their standing positions. The fighting has been fairly mild and lacking in significant developments, consisting mostly of minor skirmishes along the river line. The Romans have continued to aid the Turkish defense, preserving their forces and hoping to secure a peaceful settlement. Despite the decline in actual military combat, it seems that the conclusion of hostilities is nowhere in sight as both parties continue to fail to secure an amicable treaty. Local ambassadors remain secure in the prediction that the fighting may well continue indefinitely until, at best, a minor cease fire or truce is enacted or even enforced upon them.

CONSTRUCTION OF SUEZ CITY BEGINS. Suez City, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The British colony of Dumyat, obtained in the aftermath of the Great War, has given them control over the essential Suez Canal, providing substantial economic benefits to the empire. Locally, however, the colony has remained fairly unproductive on its own and lacked most of the basic shipbuilding and commerce facilities. In order to rectify this shortcoming of Britain's newest colony, the British have begun the construction of a new port city in the region. The newly claimed "Suez City" is slated to be provided with the latest in shipyard facilities and infrastructure. New roads are being built with automobiles in mind, as well as railroad junctions for trade with the rest of the colony. The schedule has the project being completed in one to two years, allowing for a vital new commercial center for the British Empire.

DUTCH LAUNCH SECOND ATTEMPT TO RECLAIM HOLLANDIA. Mombasa, Hollandia. As the war in Europe wound down, the Dutch prepared yet a second expedition to make an effort to reclaim the wayward colony of Hollandia. Deploying an even larger force to achieve this success, the Dutch once more confidently marched off to planned victory against the colonials. Unfortunately, the battle they had to face was hardly a pushover, and despite being veterans of battle against German reserves, they were hardly prepared for the determined resistance of the Hollandians. In a surprising display of arrogance the Dutch once more attempted to land on the exact same fortified beach they had taken last year. The beach, as before, was already marked by colonial artillery experts and the preplanned fields of fire devastated the Dutch invasion. Once again, through sheer force of will the Dutch expanded their beachhead, only to find themselves outnumbered and surrounded. As before, the Dutch expedition, having proceeded in the same manner, was destroyed, forced to leave behind substantial heavy equipment and suffering major losses.

KONGO COMPLETES PORT EXPANSION. Haraldsholm, Kongo. Though the death of the Emperor delayed labor on the new port expansions in Haraldsholm, work was begun once more this year. The work has also been completed, greatly expanding the capacity for shipping through the key western coast port for the Kongo Colonial Society. The port of Haraldsholm has been substantially enlarged, allowing for the largest freighters and shipping to take place, and increasing the nation's capacity for trade. New agreements with Argentine businesses have begun to further open the doors of the interior of Africa to South American commercial interests, bringing growing new wealth and the free market to the Scandinavian empire. Military experts state the expansion will further help naval projection in the Atlantic Ocean, in preparation for the war many believe must come to retake the fatherland.

News from the Far East

DEATH OF THE KING OF GUANGXI. Guangzhou, Guangxi. The British dominion of Guangxi suffered a blow to its nation this year with the death of King John, the Chinese monarch ruling the region in the name of Britain. The death of the king has led to the departure of one of the most stalwart allies of British business in the world, and is the first death of one of the tame kings of China. The new king, adopting a British name as part of a new royal tradition, has been declared King Henry, and has thus ascended to the new throne. The new king is also widely considered to be not much more than the continuation of his brother, holding many of the same political views and remaining in the pocket of British business. The transition has been fairly painless, resulting in less than negligible disruption of the Guangxi political and economic system.

ELECTIONS IN GUANGXI. Guangzhou, Guangxi. As education grows in China, groups have begun to organize in resistance towards the corruptive influence of the British in China. With education has come new ideas of Chinese nationalism and a Chinese nation, free of the English and their ways. This has proven to be a highly disruptive new force in Guangxi's politics, as the Chinese Restoration Party has emerged, and begun making spirited attempts to oust the Whig Party. They have campaigned upon a platform of ousting the British economic and political dominance of China, and building a nation ruled locally, rather than from London. They have also expressed plans to eliminate the English-sponsored monarchy, claiming it to be the worst of both European and Chinese history in action. These rabble rousers have only gained marginal ground in the nation's Parliament overall, mostly thanks to the constitution favoring the pro-English factions. Unfortunately, they have succeeded in destabilizing the political system, hoping to begin a course to destroy British dominance in southern China. (-1 Stability)

INDIAN LIBERALS CALL FOR BREAK FROM SPAIN. Bombay, India. The conclusion of the latest Spanish Civil War and the political machinations of the new Indian government have led to a major campaign by the Indian National Party. Though a minority in the current legislature, they have called for a severing of ties with Spain and the establishment of a fully independent nation. Though they have applauded the cessation of payments to the Spanish and the new trading agreement with Argentina, both against the treaty for Indian independence, they have stated that the time is ripe to permanently bring an end to Spanish influence. They have claimed that the Spanish must be removed from the subcontinent, by force if need be, stating that the new regime has no right to rule the Indian people and that India must take its chance to form a strong state without European influences. The Traditional Ties Party in control of the government has of course refused these claims, creating growing tension in the halls of the Indian legislature.

JAPANESE BRING LANGUAGE EMPHASIS TO EDUCATION. Kyoto, Japan. The Japanese emperor has ordered new educational standards to be put into effect throughout the myriad possessions of the empire. New funds have been dedicated to bolster the educational process by aiding the existing local schools in China and Korea to develop a new curriculum. Taking a strong new path from the teachings that the Japanese are the rightful inheritors of the empires of Korea and Japan, they have expanded upon this idea by ordering all students to learn Japanese. The Japanese hope to further civilize the barbarians of China and Korea by teaching them their language and forcing them into cultural assimilation with the Home Islands. There has been an immediate backlash from the local populations, who have been considerably less eager to have a foreign language forced upon them in their own homelands. This has given strength to regional nationalist movements against the Empire of Japan. (-1 Stability in Japanese China and Korea)

INDIA BEGINS NEW INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS. Bombay, India. The Indian government has announced plans for an ambitious program to provide extensive new infrastructure improvements for the people and nation. The first of these projects was begun as a motorway and railroad transportation network to connect the capitals and economic centers of each of India's principalities. The roads will pass over considerable difficult terrain, and analysts have woefully determined that none of the existing pathways are anywhere close to being able to provide the capacity for the plans. The second phase of the plan includes modern new facilities such as jails, modern sewage systems, electricity, and even running water to the whole of the nation. The cost for this project is said to rival any ever conceived world wide, and has received much criticism, claiming that simply attempting such a project can only lead India to financial disaster. Current estimates state that at the current rate, it could take nearly one hundred years to actually complete such a program as thoroughly as the government insists and will take away from the desperate need to build up a military force to defend the nation from future imperialism.

NEW ARAB-BRAZIL TRADE AGREEMENT SIGNED. Natal, Brazil. The outbreak of war has done little to alter the desire for raw materials and resources for the growing civil apparatus of the Empire of Brazil. As more and more people take to the roads in home and Argentine produced automobiles, the demand for refined petroleum has grown exponentially. The new trading agreement has opened Arabian markets for goods produced in the South American economic sphere dominated by Brazil, while providing a large source of petroleum, and allowing for the exploitation of Arabia's natural resources. The new war between the Arabian Empire and Oman and Yemen has caused some delay in getting the agreement truly humming along, but Brazilian market analysts are confident that the Arabs will deal with their opponents in short order, creating an even larger region for Brazilian exploitation in the Middle East.

ARGENTINA SIGNS NUMEROUS NEW TRADING AGREEMENTS. Buenos Aires, Argentina. In a series of actions which have resulted in Argentina being privately known as the "world's whore," the Argentine government have signed a plethora of new agreements worldwide. Trading agreements have been established in order to expand Argentine cultural and economic influence worldwide, opening doors for lucrative new markets. The current list of nations who have signed these agreements with Argentina is Colombia, Portugal, India, Brittany, Netherlands, Occitania, Hispaniola, Aztlan, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. The growing dislike and hatred for Brazil's diplomatic policies worldwide have been cited as a major factor for this initiative's success as Argentina forges its own identity as a cultural center through cinema. With Argentina's film industry at its most popular internationally, and overwhelming its competitors like a juggernaut, Rosario seems unstoppable. The cinema has begun bringing in a massive amount of money and trade into Argentina's coffers, while various embargoes against Brazil have made Argentina virtually the sole supplier of the extensive modern goods and technologies emanating out of South America for Europe and North America.

The Last President
Arthur Taylor, the President overthrown by General Scott in 1845, died in 1869 and was burried in Washington, D.C., and his daughter, Janice Taylor Daughtery, moved with her husband to the state of West Florida, and she took her father's memoirs with her. These memoirs were recently discovered by the current residents of the house, and have been turned over to an Austin publishing house, who published the memoirs. The Last President; The Memoirs of President Arthur Taylor describe in vivid detail the coup, President Taylor's imprisonment, and reveal secrets about the military takeover that lead to General Scott becoming President. It's being revealed that General Scott threatened President Taylor's family and the families of all the other government officials in prison, and in essence forced the government to turn over the Presidency and the government in general to Scott and his cronies. Never before has this information been released, and historians have already begun to pour over it and determine its implications. Other information in the Memoirs include a general description of President Taylor's life, his military service, his years as a de-facto prisoner in Washington, D.C., and also notes from his daughter that were also found.

A Nordic Struggle
"A Nordic Struggle" is another Revolutionary pamphlet published anonymously, which detailed the fact that the Revolution of the Proletariat is a fundamentally-natural part of the overarching fact that Nords have been at the vanguard of Europe in political modernization. When the rest of the continent was ruled by merchants, royals and military strongmen, Scandinavia had the first true parliamentary legislature. While the rest of the continent drew a sharp wedge between economic and governmental venture, we combined the two. Summarily, Scandinavia has always been one step ahead of the rest of continental Europe politically, socially and economically. The Revolution is no exception, and eventually Europe shall join the Revolution, in the same manner that eventually nearly all absolutist regimes made concessions to republican forms of governance. And yes, eventually even the remainders of those absolutist monarchs will join the rest of the modern world in embracing democracy.

Roningai
Created by Makino Cinema Productions, a small moving picture production studio, produced and released Roningai, a movie which follows the life of a ronin samurai wandering through Japan. When the nameless samurai enters a rural village, he attracts the attention of a local bandit king and the plot develops from there. Roningai is a strange new development in the Japanese film industry, though it has received little success internationally beyond Japan's own borders. The samurai have fallen mostly into disregard over the past hundred years or so, and this film has provided a bit of a resurgence of respect for their depleted ranks. Though few samurai actually remain, most having died out in the past twenty to thirty years, it is widely agreed that this could be a turning point in the rest of the nation's understanding and relationship with this shunned caste of society.

We hereby terminate our membership in the Pacific Concord, though we hope to retain prosperous trade and community ties with your nations. We stand steadfast in our dedication to peace, and hope that you do not see this as more than it is, a move towards isolating ourselves from the potential of a new war, not a switch to another side in a perceived greater conflict.

@Quisani: As you requested in a prior conversation, the Takao has been converted to a Heavy Cruiser rather than a destroyer. Therefore the price has changed and I have done what I could to produce these according to the amount of funds you have provided. Excess funds have been banked. Also your technology idea has been rejected as it clashes with the tech setup I have laid out. That element of your cultural orders has been completely ignored.

@TerrisH: The women's voting law DID pass, as referenced by this year's election entry for Switzerland. I just did not feel the need to include it in the update, though I probably should have.

@Blue Bacon: There was no confirmation about the first trade listed in your orders, so that was ignored.

@Lokki242: Your orders would make more sense if you did in fact actually have a populace which watches movies, which they don't. At this time, there are no public cinemas or theaters in the whole of Persia. Money related to this has been banked.

@Azale: The ideas of the Tobin Plan are fairly well encapsulated by simply increasing the amount of education domestic policy spending. Therefore, the funds dedicated towards that have been added instead to your education per turn expenses.

You may notice that manpower has NOT been added to your various stats as usual. Instead, it will be all adjusted when we complete the changeover to the new thread.

@theDright: All trade agreements which actually went through have been mentioned in the updates. Any not mentioned didn't happen for a variety of reasons. Also, you made a error in your calculations, you have 10 EP less than you thought you had.

@Lord_Iggy: As mentioned on AIM, the type of plane you discussed is not possible with what you provided. Therefore that part of your orders was ignored and the excess EP has been banked.

@ChiefDesigner: As I told you in the past, the other republics are independent nations and therefore the spending you recommended did not go through. Though the unification did occur, you did not possess control of their finances for the start of the turn. I did what I could regarding your intents for spending, but it fell short of what you may have expected.

Jason the King has been dropped due to inactivity. Kongo is now once more an open nation.

The American-Brazilian Trade Agreements of 1920

1. That a mutual reduction of tariffs between the two states shall begin, and not end until the year 1930, with the stated goals of revitalizing the American economy and the Brazilian merchant marine with freer trade.

2. That the United States of America shall not make similar agreements with other South American nations, including Argentina, during this time period.

3. This deal may be resigned for additional years after 1930 should both parties agree.

As I previously stated, we're now going to get ready for a switch to a fresh thread to cover the updates from 1920 to 1939. The reasons for this have been discussed elsewhere, and this is just to tell you what you can do for Uncle EQ to make the NES better. Below is the format of stuff you can (or don't) fill out to make the updates more flavorful and interesting for all involved. I'll be giving a week for any diplomacy you wish to carry out on this thread and filling in the sections below that are relevant to your nation. Once these are filled out I'll be filling things in on the new background thread (to be posted in the next couple of hours) and preparing the actual new NES main thread. I've already discussed what's changing and what's not, and as before your stats will remain mostly intact. The whole switch to a new thread is simply to make the NES less intimidating to newcomers and to clean up some elements of the stats and ruleset as seen on the front page. This is the real chance for all 35+ of you to speak out and let everyone know about your nations and any problems with the NES as it is stands. While I will be away this weekend and cannot promise any immediate responses, I will do my best to address any criticism that are presented at this point.

As always, I reserve the right to ignore any offensive, ignorant, or contradictory input in relation to flavor stuff. Also, if you choose not to use these handy formats, I will be filling in the blanks, which may not be to your own personal benefit. Remember, the only things set in stone is your current ruling party/monarch/despot. Fill out the below sections and post them in order for me to add the relevant information to the backgrounds, etc.

Section for All Nations

Unlike the other two sections below, this part is something all players should look at, as it applies to all nations, period.

For reference here is the link to the old background thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=456857

National Backgrounds
If you choose, you may write out the background that will be provided for your nation on the background thread. If you are using a nation that has a preexisting background, please expand upon that background or make sure that you do cover everything mentioned there. If you are playing a nation that came into being after 1900, you may write up a completely new background on your own, though I reserve the right to edit for space or clarity.

National Flag
As with backgrounds, nations that existed before 1900 already have flags provided. If you have a IC reason that your nation's flag would have changed, feel free to include it here. New nations will of course need new flags, and I will be providing them if you choose not to.

Comments and Criticism

In this section please fill out any comments about the NES itself, NOT your nation or the handling of any specific events. I'm mostly looking for ways to make the front page more coherent and clear. Any grammatical errors, contradictions, and so forth, please make sure to point them out to me. Similarly, if I have given the go ahead for anything special that you feel merits further exploration on the front page, make sure I know about it, as it will save us all time and trouble in the future.

Pontus was born out of the Pontic Revolution against Rome in 1906, led by General Anthimos Stavridis. After almost 2,000 years of Roman Occupation, the Greeks declared their Independence. Altough boths Greeks and Romans were Orthodox Christians, the Greeks never forgot their Ancient Glories. The memories of Pericles, Alexander the Great, Aristotle and Platon are still alive in Pontus. Can vary. The official one is the 47 star flag, but for diplomatic purposes in countries where the SU has good relations (Vinland for instance) the one below is standard.

National Background

Created by the 1916 Treaty of Washington, the Second Union was a compromise between the militarist federals and the United American Republic. As the spiritual successor to the United States of George Washington and a chronological successor to the militarist republic, the SU has made the relics of the former sacrosanct and the imbibed the ambition of the latter. Though able to bring much of the old union back into the fold and expand the franchise through the abolition of slavery, setbacks (including the secession of the proletarist republics of the south) have accompanied success.

@christos: I'd prefer if the Pontic Republic retained its name. Sorry, but it was already recently changed from the Roman provincial name of Chaldea. Make other adjustments accordingly. Also you missed the section about the status of unions. Similarly, the previous player already created and deployed a flag for the Pontic Republic, and I see no IC reason why it should change, especialyl since in your orders you've been trying NOT to outrage the Turkish population. Finally, as a note on your background. The Roman Empire is more a Greek state these days than a Roman one, but that could always been disputed, just thought I'd point it out.

Current Pontic flag:

Cease all military activity against Jamaica and the other Caribbean states at once. Brazil does not take assaults on our political friends lightly.
