SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

there is a buddhist missionary in a galley just north of Zhou. I've been told he likes long boat trips. And he needs the miles for a free night of converting non-believers. I like this

Yes - and we should be building cottages on the grass instead of the plains in commerce. Yes and no, doing the plains first meant we have a few extra hammers, and we were growing a bit too fast. We should obvciously continue cottaging all of comemrce's tiles

Other thoughts:
No needs for HR yet - happiness is not a limiting factor and we are getting happier all the time. 100% agreed. We will probably switch to HR/Caste in 1 revolt

Wheat can use another worker for chops and cottages. Agreed.

Rams seems to be holding his own against Brens - this is v-good news. Yes, very.

And I still have power here in DC despite Sandy  Oh yeah, is it getting a little windy :mischief:

Congrats to the Giants - a clean sweep of the motor city. Held the Tigers to 6 runs in 4 games. Is that a record?

Some thoughts

Micro
- assign desert hill to Production instead of Commerce, reassign citizen from forest.

Sorry Production grew onto the forest last turn, I was trying to make sure all our core cities were working good tiles every turn, but I might have gotten sloppy the last couple of turns.

- assign PHF from East Fish to Zhou and mine it, asap

I moved a worker to Zhou to chop into the Moai. The other worker there should be done cottaging soon.

- after Trireme in Prod, build the 2 WB's for 2 Fish, then MoM?

I agree with MoM. I felt I had to insert the trireme before the WBs with all the barb galleys about.

- switch Commerce to Aquaduct? It has 3 unhealthy faces.

Agreed. I was thinking the same thing.

Edit: Regarding happiness. We have workers improving sugar and wine tiles right now, so we will get another +2 :) soon.

I also need help determining who's up next.

SteelHorse said the 1st week in November. I assume, if he is not washed out to sea (edit: Stay safe SH!), that he is still OK next week but not this week?

Chris is out until Nov. 12th.

Benginal, how is your availability looking?

If we only need a few more turns played, I can continue if no one else is available.

Anyone else itching to get some turns in, this week maybe?

No worries, I inspected the save for 30 minutes to come up with that, and I am still adding to it. I don't expect everyone to analyse the save in minute detail every turn. I made a similiar list after my turnset.

Edit: Regarding happiness. We have workers improving sugar and wine tiles right now, so we will get another +2 :) soon.

Yes indeed, and don't forget the Incense. The silk gives an extra +1 to those few cities that have a Market as well, add in HR if we get really desperate.

I'm always itching to play :) but I have already had 2 turnsets.
I think it would actually be beneficial if we played just 1 turn, to see what the GP is. edit: Because if it isn't a GS, we will probably pause for more arguments discussions

I can play one more turn tonight, if you don't mind making a summary post of the micro changes. :)

Yes, please do.

This is just changes from the current save, and only the ones that are needed for 1 turn:

Macro
- SWITCH TO ASTRO!!!!!
- cancel the free fish/clams trade with Brennus. Sell him fish for 1gpt.
- sell Rams either Lit or Maths for his gold. (Brennus doesn't seem to care that we are trading with Rams). I would prefer Maths, as he may already have most of it.

Micro
- GP Farm, assign 2 scientists & 1 engineer now. WB & growth both in 2 turns (edit: we simply must maximise gpp every turn now we have NE)
- Production, assign forest citizen to desert mine from Commerce
- Commerce, change to aquaduct
- Clams, change to Caravel
- East Fish, change to Caravel
- Barb City, whip temple for 36 overflow (edit: 2 turn worker next) (edit2: and it is already working 1 unimproved tile, and growing this turn)

Units
- Paris spy to Clams
- Commerce spy to Paris

You are so lucky. I want you to play the rest of the game. :):)

Seriously, we had 54% * 75% = 40% chance of getting 2 GS, and trades galore.

I also need help determining who's up next.

Trystero and neilmeister have played two sets. Of the people not on vacation, Benginal, Deckhand, and Revent have played one set.

Luck? Sir, this is all skill. :smoke: (edit: and in case it is not clear, this is a joke.)

Seriously, if I had to play the rest of the game: :faint:

Or at least: :vomit:

We can use Aristotle to part bulb Astro right now, for 1701 beakers, adding to the 271 we already have. So we will have 1972/3120, or 1148 to go. We have enough cash to do 1 turns @ 100%, for 293. After that we can do 98bpt sustainably. Therefore Astro is 9 turns away.

We can sell Compass to Brennus (after the Astro bulb) for CoL & 50g.

And revolt to HR/Caste all in this turn. (edit: though, we probably want to delay it a little bit, as we have a number of whips coming up, and we might wait for CoL from Ramesses or someone else.)

edit: yes, playing SGOTM can be scary.

I updated my brief turn report with a couple of screenshots. Ramesses gave us 50 gold for Math.

Edit:

Before Universal Suffrage, Slavery is the only production we are going to get in Two Fish. Edit2; Although, what do we really need to build there?

We definitely want basic infra in all of our cities, such as:

Granary/Lighthouse/Courthouse/Library.
Forge/Markets/temples would be nice as well.

Having actually thought about it now, and not just being excited about what we could do, we only want HR for happiness, which obviously isn't a problem and won't be for some time. Caste is really only desired in GP Farm, nowhere else will make use of it.

So, if we simply max our available specialist slots in GP Farm, this should be OK.

Well, if power is not lost, I can potentially play Fri/Sat. If nothing else, can work on a PPP tomorrow as it looks like office will be closed. If anyone else is up and ready, i am equally happy to wait.

I was just looking at the save again. We really need courthouses soon. We are paying over 5 gpt in almost every city for maintenance. One city (East Fish, I think) is paying almost 13 gpt maintenance. We could use CoL just for the courthouses.

Looking at the schedule, Benginal is the next available player who's only played one set. Benginal, do you think you can play this week?
