Six-Months War; Take 4

To: Russia

The Empire of Japan is deeply saddened by the reaction of Russia to our efforts in assisting in the emigration of those that oppose the regime. The Communist Government has no reason to stop dissidents from leaving. The fact that you force them to stay only incurs more costs on your government.

We find ourselves in much the same position in this world. Young Nations, ready to prove ourselves to the world. As such, we ask whether you would agree to a Defensive pact, as well as a possible trade agreement in the near future.

Sorry, forgot to write up an agreement earlier. Would this be acceptable? (I included some trade things)

The Saint-Joachim Agreement

La Republique Indépendant du Québec and The Aleyskan Republic hereby agree to these terms.

1) Either nation will come to the assistance of the other, should hostile action be undertaken by any third party.

2) Both Nations shall agree to lower import Tariffs on goods and products produced by the other.

3) Both Nations will allow the opening of an Embassy in the other's, allowing for quicker lines of communication between both.

There is no sympathy for Sweden and her "plight" in Berlin, or in any other reasonable country in Europe. Sweden's actions over the last year are so similar to its attacks during the Great War that they cannot possibly be painted as anything but an act of naked aggression, a last ditch effort to forcibly install a dying ideology on unwilling freemen. You may attempt to avow responsibility for your actions, but the world clearly sees your malicious intent.

That being said, we hope that the failure of your most recent adventure has opened your eyes to the reality of the world, and made you think twice about any attempts to forcibly inflict pan-Scandinavianism on your neighbors. To ensure a future of peace and prosperity in the Baltic, we present you with the following treaty, generous to say the least:

Treaty of Kiel

1. Sweden permanently denounces offensive warfare and foreign alliances.

2. The independence and territorial integrity of Sweden at pre-war borders will be guaranteed by Germany and its fellow Baltic states under the terms of the Baltic Pact.

3. With no need for forces for an offensive war, and its independence protected, Sweden shall limit its military forces to the following:

15 Divisions
2 Lion Troop Battalions
15 Cruisers
7 Destroyers
5 Submarines
1 Zeppelin
1 Xiaolong H-1 Bomber Squadrons
3 Fighter Squadrons

These limitations will remain in place for 5 years, at which time they will be reviewed by Germany. In the case of an invasion or foreign threat, Germany will allow additional forces over the current limit. All excess troops will be disbanded, while all excess ships and aircraft being sold off or scrapped. In order to lessen this burden, Germany offers to purchase all excess ships and aircraft at face value.

4. Sweden agrees to pay 30 EP in war reparations to Denmark over the next 2 years for its unwarranted aggression.

While we strongly support the efforts of the Danish and German governments, we must point out that Norway should hardly be viewed as innocent in their involvement in the conflict, and to us, seems like the propagators of the entire conflict. We recommend all involved nations keep that in mind.

Crimea, Siam and China are being NPC'd, as their players haven't made themselves present, and have not sent orders. They can of course, easily reclaim these nations, should they want to.

EDIT: @Thomas - I have to say no, it really doesn't effect overall experience.

Has Norway made any IC statements?

We have no intention to scare you. We are keeping our forces ready should you be getting any ideas. We merely wish to remind you that Quebec has had ENOUGH of the oppression by Anglos, and we will fight to keep this independence to the last man, woman and child.

However, that being said, It cannot be denied that both of our nations cannot afford to maintain hostility in the face of the world. As such, we ask for an opportunity to build a friendship between our two nations.

@TLK
Who is the ruling party in Belgium? From a bit of research, there are three main parties, so which is ruling; the Traditionalists, Modern Nationalists, and Liberals?

Has Norway made any IC statements?

There is the address by the king, a 5 paragraph explanation with italics at the top. And the following statement as well.

-----

Statement released by staff of Prince and Army Captain Olav, heir to the Norwegian throne. - 1923

These claims that we have instigated this conflict are ridiculous. Its a claim made by Sweden in order to gain International sympathy, and the fact that it has been endorsed by nations and groups such as the Socialists in Spain lends evidence to the fact that Socialism clearly does painful and disrupting things to the human mind and should be avoided at all costs.

I have seen many things during this war, many that I wish I could have unseen. I was on the front lines with every other man in the Norwegian military. Every single man who joined up after the war had started, you know what they said was their reason for joining? They weren't Swedes and they didn't want to be. They are Norwegian, and those in Denmark are Danish, and those in Finland are Finnish! They do not wish to be part of a Pan-Scandinavian state, especially one dominated by Sweden, and they fought for that! They fought to keep independent from the warmongers and tyrants in Sweden.

Now for all that the fancy lawyers and politicians and government and the college educated in the world might have to say, it all eventually comes down to what the common man has to say that truly reveals the truth of an issue, and the common man has spoken. They do not wish to be Swedish subjects, and they were willing to fight for that! What right do we governments have to stop our people from fighting for something so dear to their hearts?

In answer to Sweden's ridiculous claims of us starting the war, what would we have to gain? My father and I wholeheartedly endorse the Treaty of Kiel set forth by the Germans, a treaty that gives Norway no gain in territory or in anything else. Surely if we were to start this war just to set up the Swedish as scapegoats, we would at least take some sort of prize? But nay, Norway fights not for the spoils of war, but for the wishes of its people, and for its allies to the south in Denmark which Sweden has viciously invaded twice now.

Austria's lack of response to their current rebellions and whether they will do the right thing for peace in the region by releasing Serbia and Croatia as sovereign nations is most disheartening. We ask they respond soon or we will be forced to intervene to ensure the Serbs and Croats given their proper independence and to also ensure that the Italian minorities in Austria-Hungary are given their voice for independence.

Ooc - Tlk, When will you put the designs up on the front page. I'm curious what the new Italian battleship's stats are

Beasts in Calm Wilderness

A bullet bobbed the deer’s head violently, as the animal’s legs stretched forward and its body lunged down, collapsing and then falling sideways. Lucas Pourbaix relaxed to a cigar, perched on a stump overlooking his kill among the trees and snowy landscape. He was celebrating - alone, in the Ardennes. He never used to be a solitary man. Pourbaix’s family could never balance their money in the home, and had bad debts to the wrong people. But for their deficiencies, Pourbaix’s parents kept these troubles secret from him enough that he found friends and enjoyed his adolescence.

He became a taxman in Flanders; the requirements were low back then, and he trained as he worked. He found himself some fortunes, though it wasn’t money Pourbaix cared for, but, he might admit over a tonic, power. Not political power - he forswore the responsibilities of that kind - but power in personal relationships. He’d come to realize he didn’t have friends but either allies or subordinates, and he liked it that way. A hunter he prided himself to be, prepared to seize opportunities by the throat.

A partridge cautiously stalked around some trees past a short clearing. If Pourbaix could hit the little fellow, he’d grab his deer, and call it a day. He stretched his rifle to his shoulder, and stared calmly down the barrel. The bullet echoed loudly, but missed the partridge.

Pourbaix lazily sat back down on his stump, chomped back on his cigar, and contested fate. He’d call it a day anyways. Few men would know, but, Pourbaix may have become the most important man in banking. He’d been appointed as chief of a modest government bank for his reputation in the field of finance, and was informed the modest bank would be the site of a massive government project to rebuild the institution of banking - or how Pourbaix preferred to think, of hunting.

The scene quieted, as Pourbaix stepped confidently down the minor slope towards the powerless and thoroughly dead deer. His boots left light imprints in the soft snow. He squatted before the deer’s inanimate face, resting his rifle flat on the ground, and whispered:

“Thanks friend.”

CIVILIANS armed with handguns and rifles, firing at police in armored personnel carriers are not images associated with the urban hearts of commercial capitals. But Asyut is no ordinary city. Earlier this month its crime-infested quarter of Khalid Bazaar, a sprawling network of alleyways housing 8,000 people, saw battles that pitted police against the followers of a powerful local imam. In one scene locals flattened a carrier's tires with gunfire. Then they kept firing at the stationary vehicle, killing an officer inside.

A local mosque had been the center of much communal teaching, by the local imam, Usmain bin Ali, al Askari, had been preaching the particularly firebrand branch of Wahaabi teaching, especially from the Verses of the Sword in these gatherings. This culminated in a general hatred and dislike for anyone not Muslim by birth. Their demands are plain and simple : to stop any sort of association with the infidels.

Several civil causalities have been reported, including several women who were out shopping for their daily wares. The police have not been available for comments, though sources in the administration department, who was not to be named that, reinforcements were en route; though, it would be hard to contain the general mood of the people.

It's 1923 RPG's ans AK-47s were not in use I think you should change your story to reflect this ..

Denmark

The Danish people back the German peace proposal. We also would like see Norway stand up to her crimes of instigating this brutal and needless war. They may not have stepped foot on Danish territory, but they certainly supplied the motive and the "bullets" necessary for such an uncalled-for atrocity.

We have noted the concerns of the Nicaraguan people and their desire for greater reform and independence. However, Nicaragua's continued independence and security relies on its rejection of nationalism and its continuation of a close relationship with the United States.

As such, the United States feels that the appointment of a more liberal, reform-minded President of Nicaraguan descent is required, albeit one who appreciates the benefits that Protectorate status brings to Nicaragua. As such, we have carefully selected Diego Manuel Chamorro, a Liberal reformist with close ties to the United States, to the Presidency and we wish him and Nicaragua the best as we continue to work closely with this nation to continue a beneficial protectorate relationship.

While we of course entirely back our dominion and sympathise with Canada's nervousness in the circumstances, it is much better that there should be peace and general cordiality in North America, and we hope, especially in view of the Treaty of Boston and the wider implications of any such conflict, that all parties in North America should not run the slightest risk or put before each other the slightest temptation that might spoil the peace.
