SGOTM 16 - U'nu'sual S'us'pec'ts

I think few choice cities would be ideal as well, but there would be significant problems with it. The city may revolt back to the previous owner for example. The unhappiness may also pose a problem for us. The AI will not be very happy with us (the ones we declared on) as well and may start plotting again. The last thing we may need is a war to slow us down.

Taking the entire continent means we will have one super vassal who SHOULD be able to match our research rate so we could trade our way to the top (ie for FT1, we have to research the top and the bottom of the tech tree. An AI who could match us by doing the top half would be awesome :)

Ok, green from me.

I like the overflow into sankore and ND. Happy with the other reasoning for builds.

Agree regarding cottages

I originally favoured the hamlet as well, but changed to the plains hamlet because there is a 3rd option to move his stack, and that is to where our mini stack is standing. If he does that, then you cant attack next turn without most troops crossing the river.
If he does move away, and the border pop sends him to the fort, our stack can then move to the oasis.

Having said all that, i would rather not attack him on the hill. A lot of his units have hills defence.
Rather just dow him again and see where his stack goes, it wont be able to go to that forest again

I dont know yet about the other continent. I do want cahokia, but im a bit lukewarm on much more.

We will probably have to be careful regarding domination limits.

But its too early to tell just yet.

Neil, I'm not positive in what you want me to do? We can wait until we see where the stack goes (we'll know next turn). But for now where should I put the stack?

Chris, the one-pop whip was to get the overflow multiplied by stone. I can do a 2 instead of 3 pop whip, but the tiles being worked are lame.

Green from me on the overall plan.

Regarding the DOW: maybe we should take this slow and see where the stack goes (as Benginal suggested) and then make sure we are clear on the troop micro of our response.

Sorry, do as you suggested....... thinking too much about what-ifs.

GREEN from me.

edit: still would rather not attack him on the hill though.

Gunpowder is 1216/1872
We're producing 572 beakers
How do we finish Gunpowder this turn?

In what appears to have been an annoying oversight on my part our map didn't change. He's only got 6 cities and we can see them all. Sigh. Now he has a map of the other continent. He'll be dead soon, so not really a huge loss I don't think. But still kind of silly of me.

Brennus's Turn:

Civ4ScreenShot0005.JPG

You're such a little jokester / moron Brennus. And now

..............

the moment you've all been waiting for

..............

Civ4ScreenShot0006.JPG

We can even reach with the troops that just took Stone!. Our borders popped before he moved. And he got bounced to 1S of those pigs and then moved most of his stack there ... on to flat land ... where ALL of our units can reach, except the 2 maces and xbow on their way down. A clearer view:

Civ4ScreenShot0007.JPG

And just to be a pain in our side for a little while longer:

Civ4ScreenShot0008.JPG

So that's the lot. Next turn looks pretty obvious to me. But we can talk about what to do just for funsies. We're not going to have enough units to finish him off I don't think. We'll have to figure out a way to do this carefully.

Great play Ben! :D
Right now, our problem is quantity of units. His stack is far too big to take out in one hit. However, what we could do is fight from a forested tile so that when we attack, not only do we win, but when he counter attacks, he has no (a small) chance! Key for him attacking however is not using seige though. If we use seige, his units will get free XP and retreat making him a lot harder to kill.

We have 14 attacking units at the moment. That will leave him with around 8 units left if we win them all. Combined strength will be low since we will be killing his strongest units.

We finished Gunpowder because we get the pre-req bonus (I think its 20% per pre-req) for having a pre-req, its not intuitive I know. Most techs have pre-reqs, but some don't, like Agriculture.....

I can't see the images... but the description is great. WOOT.

I was thinking we might do a very limited war on the other continent, taking a few choice cities.

I hope Ramesses doesn't live long enough to build the AP for us, though it would be nice if he did.

I wonder if our two victory conditions should be AP and Culture?

I like the idea of AP, The only concern I have with AP is that if we are helping Qin (or others) with research might someone get Mass Media and UN while we are completing FT1

I'd prefer AP in Buddhism. We have already infected Qin with Buddhism, any chance we can get hammy into the group? This could be really helpful when we DOW SB.

The other question would be Is Culture quicker than Domination? Assuming we have our continent plus SB and Hammy as vassals, how close will we be to Dom?

I like AP as well, just for the hammers. Anything extra is a bonus.
If we had our continent and 2 vassals, we would have surely tripped domination.

@ Stacks
I have opend the save, and I love where he is, his Chariots can only reach Vienne.
Soooo, move the 3 trebs into Vienne, with the Bibracte LB and 3 Maces, we are fine. Move our super medic into Vienne as well

The other 2 Maces & x-bow take out the lone LB, take all the trebs from our main stack, and continue to Georgova

Everything else smash his stack, no concern regarding counter attacks, a lot of our units will not be too wounded. Our pikes might not even attack, as most of his survivors will be Chariots.

Great job, Benginal! :goodjob: Our fantastic luck continues with the border pop. :king: We will be well placed to grab his east coast cities.

We are lucky that we can attack from our territory, meaning we can move our stack 3 tiles the turn after the attack..

The only concern I have is if he moves all his chariots to next to Ski Resort, we won't be able to reach them. So, move the spear that is next to CamelDumDum towards Ski Resort, and move the Pike that is 1N of Ski Resort into it.

He is going to settle that 1 tiles island , sink whatever boats you can see and block Isca again. CamelDumDum can then safely be left empty.

Ramesses will give us 40g for our map.
SB will give us his map & 50g, which is the most I have seen him have.

We should be able to get 1 more map sale to Ramesses sometime in the future

edit: @Trys, what's your opinion re: attacking the SoD this turn??

edit 2: are we going to switch research off for a bit, until we know what Qin is rersearching and we finish more Uni's & Salons??

I will be traveling and away from the internet for most of the next 18-24 hours, so don't wait for my green for the next turns. Good luck!

Buddhist missionary could get on Caravel this turn a sail over to Saladin or SB.

Saladin might be the best option, as we may lose our OB's with him.

edit: We should get the OB +1 bonus next turn with all 4 AI's on other continent, check if you can beg/bribe Hammy into Beauro.

edit 2: tempted to whip West Fish this turn and give both FP's to Fake Humbaba.
