Guilds of LochSpring:
Ironmongers of Quality ~ Smith & Sons
The history of the mercantile guild Smith & Nephew is one of inspiration, almost to the point of being a legend among the other mercantile guilds. This has drawn quite some attention as well as negative propaganda among the others.
Old man Smith, Carrow Smith, came to the new world, in search of a job, any job would do. Back home, the Smith family was known for their expertise in working with plate armor. The family was one of the few foundries that had supplied the rebel faction of Ymirra, that had led the rebellion against the royal house. When the rebellion had been weeded out, any one who has remotely connected to the rebellion here put the guillotine. It was only through sheer luck and some tricky "gifts" that Carrow had managed himself to packed in a box of coffee beans.
The "Ironmongers of Quality" started off as a small blacksmith in the bleak end of the city catering to the agricultural tool needs that the local population had. "Services" were also provided to many a shady characters as long as they carried coins to pay for their needs. Sabers, knives and shortened hand axes were made for these characters. The BIG BREAK for the Carrows came when the mercenaries came in droves into the city, trying to make a living as city gaurds. The Halberds and Sabres used by the city gaurds, were of the finest quality in all of Lochspring. Business was flourishing, the smith family had big money flowing into the coffers, as were as the the enemies that envied their rise in rich and power.
By the third decade of establishment of Lochspring, the Smith Family had earned themselves quite a name for themselves. It was during this time
that the Smiths started to have an interest in the City's administration as well. Honorable Guild master Peter Smith, by no means honorable, had got himself
elected to the City Council, as a member of the Trading council whose main function was to look after all the commercial interests of the settlements.
Mr. Smith with the support of his father's institution had proposed a motion whereby the city would be needed to guarantee the safety of the Merchant Ships that ply the seas.
The Smith & Sons establishment had provided the designs for the Raiders as well.
The earliest models of the commerce raiders were totally wind powered, which were in later years equipped with steam equipment, so as to increase their speed.
The naval shipyard of the Smith & Sons are abuzz with activity with several families getting their fast Raiders for their own needs, some not so honest, after all. But then, as long as gold keeps coming, everything is a good deal for the Smith family.
