OptNES III: Foundry of Nations

...Oh.

Preview time!

Spoiler :
The monarch of the Tengalu was a fearsome sight. A ceremonial head-dress, made from dark red, long feathers stretched down his neck and almost halfway down his back. His eyes stared at us - almost right through us. It made most of us feel slightly weak. We proceeded to make our offer, trying to make ourselves understood in a blend of Avirrian, Tengaluese (we knew not their word for it) and signing and gestures. It worked, somehow, but the monarch was initially displeased by our price. We told him that other potential buyers might turn the Engines against the Tengalu. It was then that he accepted; we sold him two blueprints for our Engines, one that my colleague, Head Engineer Ressis, had called the Raider and another I had dubbed Marecraft.

You didn't, he completed his sign-up post half an hour after you posted. :p

Haha, yeah . I just thought, "Hell, why not? I got 30 minutes!".

Yeah, Sorry for confusing you :p.

Actually, L_H, I just noticed a small problem with your submission. You've got Lancers down as your conventional soldiers twice.

You've got them, that's fine, but you are entitled to another one ;)

EDIT: Oops, Sorry. Mis-read it :p. Fixed :D.

Three types of Conventional Soldiers. You can then build as many as you want of those types in your orders :)

Guilds of LochSpring:
Ironmongers of Quality ~ Smith & Sons
The history of the mercantile guild Smith & Nephew is one of inspiration, almost to the point of being a legend among the other mercantile guilds. This has drawn quite some attention as well as negative propaganda among the others.

Old man Smith, Carrow Smith, came to the new world, in search of a job, any job would do. Back home, the Smith family was known for their expertise in working with plate armor. The family was one of the few foundries that had supplied the rebel faction of Ymirra, that had led the rebellion against the royal house. When the rebellion had been weeded out, any one who has remotely connected to the rebellion here put the guillotine. It was only through sheer luck and some tricky "gifts" that Carrow had managed himself to packed in a box of coffee beans.

The "Ironmongers of Quality" started off as a small blacksmith in the bleak end of the city catering to the agricultural tool needs that the local population had. "Services" were also provided to many a shady characters as long as they carried coins to pay for their needs. Sabers, knives and shortened hand axes were made for these characters. The BIG BREAK for the Carrows came when the mercenaries came in droves into the city, trying to make a living as city gaurds. The Halberds and Sabres used by the city gaurds, were of the finest quality in all of Lochspring. Business was flourishing, the smith family had big money flowing into the coffers, as were as the the enemies that envied their rise in rich and power.

By the third decade of establishment of Lochspring, the Smith Family had earned themselves quite a name for themselves. It was during this time
that the Smiths started to have an interest in the City's administration as well. Honorable Guild master Peter Smith, by no means honorable, had got himself
elected to the City Council, as a member of the Trading council whose main function was to look after all the commercial interests of the settlements.

Mr. Smith with the support of his father's institution had proposed a motion whereby the city would be needed to guarantee the safety of the Merchant Ships that ply the seas.

The Smith & Sons establishment had provided the designs for the Raiders as well.

The earliest models of the commerce raiders were totally wind powered, which were in later years equipped with steam equipment, so as to increase their speed.

The naval shipyard of the Smith & Sons are abuzz with activity with several families getting their fast Raiders for their own needs, some not so honest, after all. But then, as long as gold keeps coming, everything is a good deal for the Smith family.

Members of note:
Peter Smith : Guildmaster of Smith & Sons; Senator of Trading Council.
Jonathan Smith : Incharge of the Shipyard of Smith & Sons;
Kegan Smith: Rear Admiral, in charge of the 2nd Fleet, Lochsmith Confederate Navy.

Since I'm still a while from finishing, let's have another preview!

Spoiler :
We landed on a plain. Northwards and eastwards, the rainforest continued as far as the eye could see. To the south and west, a vast plain of long grasses grew. Blue shadows of mountains lined parts of the horizon. In the middle of all this, slightly to our north-west, lay a small city, with thatch-roofed, stone houses. We disembarked and entered.
As we walked through the wide main thoroughfare, we felt a strange sense that we were being watched. Some sort of market was in progression, but as the eight of us walked past, clothed in flight-gear and blueprints in hand, each and every one of them stopped and stared at us. Having visitors was clearly an unusual occurrence.

Now see if you can guess which country our esteemed narrator is in.

It isn't the Yyaraskihn, no.

no...

Just from location, I'd narrow it down to Arexthia or Tengalu’kulchen. Of those two, I would guess Tengalu.

Nope. Surprisingly, considering you didn't guess it, it's actually Masia. Your location is just to the south of where the rainforests end, but your territory is all on the plains.
Having visitors was clearly an unusual occurrence.
This bit was supposed to be the giveaway.

Oh geez, I can't believe I actually forgot about my own country. *facepalm*

We all do it sometimes ;).

Also, Could you post up a map on what biomes are where (If theres not one already)? Would be very interesting to look at.

...And maybe an ETA of the update? :mischief:

Update? I'm working on it pretty much constantly. I can have the update up, most likely, within 24 hours. Ideally less than that. It's heading towards being a two-post update, sitting at almost 30,000 characters in its current state.

I can do a biome map, it'll be pretty sketchy but I can have it up within 15-30 mins.

Wow... 30,000 characters?

Cannot wait! :D

I will take this time to point out that Costal isn't a biome. Mediterranian/Chaparral Biome would work better.

Coastal is just a sort of mishmash of Mediterranean and atlantic island biomes. As long as people get the idea, it's fine in my book. :)
