I fought about 5 defensive wars against the Mamluks while conquering Anatolia, and eventually they collapsed on their own. Some time later, I finally got around to conquering Egypt and I found this in Cairo 
none of those wonders were built by me in the (few) turns between the screenshots, and by this time the city was rivaling my core cities which had around 20 pop in each.
