SGOTM 17 - Plastic Ducks

I'd definitely raze Gao. Sury will have some cities worth keeping too, especially if he shrines as Doshin suggested. Jungle is incredibly worker intensive, and our guys have some better things to do, like irrigating the land once we traded for CS. Also, if the fifth city is not coastal, we may have to consider the fort chain as Duckweed pointed out.
@Bestsss: cannons can be a huge problem unless we can disconnect their iron on the first turn of war which is not very likely. However, most of the AIs usually don't prioritize Steel. They tend to get Rifling first which is good for us.

Do we plan to road up to Djenne before declaring so that we can save a turn later in the war?

Not sure we should raze Gao, it'll pop border in 2 turns to work the Pig in 2 turns if we could send 2 workers to prechop the jungle. At least 1 forest to chop, which will enable 1 pop whip of granary. If there's more resources or more forests available, it might worth keeping. Such a city could contribute in ~20 turns.

Not looking at the map, I guess yes if the road save the time. The criteria of worker movement during war time is Roading>chopping>tile improvement.

UnforcedError, you use spies to pillage if you get there (worst case castles+slider+spies). It's doable, truly sweaty stuff to war so much behind tech but doable and we will know to focus the espionage points if one gets that far. Immortal AIs just do not build crazy amount of units to make you lose. Indeed in a competitive game that might not net the win but at least we won't lose vs the map.

The holy Christian city is the best extortion one as it doesn't even have popped border. I'd skip it for the time being as it doesn't affect us now. Besides the pigs there must be something in the fog, I know the settling algorithm is quite sucky but not that much.

Edit: if we trade for HBR+50<=>compass I'd trade it for monotheism+gold to Sury as well.
Edit2: now thinking if Chatlie was organized instead of lousy protective holy roman would be a top tier civilization along w/ Inca/Darius... (ok starting tech still blow)

You mean if he was Julius Caesar? ;)
Praets vs. Rathaus.....:shifty:

Checked the save to take a look at that strange silver tile we just found. We definetely have to take a look over there, cause it's too map tweaked to be ignored.
However, if we want to use it as a canal to the other side, wouldn't it be better to build a fort instead of a city? This city would have absolutely no tile to work before border pop, and we're not teching Music anytime soon, so...

There's something to be said for holding on to techs. HBR + 50 <---> Compass is a good deal, since Elephants will help us crack Archery units. But Monotheism... meh. Let Sury tech or trade for HBR himself, unless he gets a sudden infusion of gold.

Unfortunately Forts can only be built and function as canals within cultural borders.

I meant to trade compass for the meh (But Monotheism... we have that already, I meant meditation). And of course, I know it's meh but prevents Qin from trading compass, also allows us to trade optics for currency and we get browny points in fair trade value. We can get philosophy from Mansa eventually (dunno what we can trade it for, though... Music perhaps?)
Let em build explorers/harbors instead useful units. Compass is totally useless on this map for the AI.

@Bebekia, Rathaus is "corporation delight".

That's very true in general, but on this map espionage missions towards someone in the South-West corner might prove really costly. We're not exactly swimming in commerce (and not even the GLH will change this significantly). I'd rather not use the slider for epionage. If we need techs we might get free techs from peace treaties if we can arrange it so that we can attack someone else while the ten turns are up so that we don't lose time. But again, all this is speculation as long as we don't know the rest of the map anyway.

The silver canal gives me a feeling that this map is eviler than expected, so my estimation of T150~170 victory will be more likely on the longer part. Time is quite tense. Any more issues from the battlefield commander?

With only 2 AIs possible on that side, the map would require to be very very evil. MM is the fastest techer of the map so we shouldn't expect ultra-advanced AI... maybe only large ones. I can already feel the Galleon chains forming :p

I guess shakabrade's eyelids betrayed him before he could play his set. Hopefully we can advance today so that this weekend can be quite productive :whipped:

I'm not worrying about AIs, but more engineered barriers ahead. Some AIs might hide behind the stronghold of barbarian cities. TBH, I have thought that our galleon could give us the complete map view.

Hopefully we can advance today so that this weekend can be quite productive :whipped:

Does this mean that you could take over and blitz?:D

I'll spare as many hours as I can :D

My weekends are usually free for the remainder of this SG with the exception of June 1-2 where I'll be away for a conference.

Probably we should send more than a spy to scout, a woodmanII LK would be nice as there are mainly jungles and forests behind the mountains.

I did mention something earlier:

Doshin said:
Remember this area:

?

I haven't seen a single barbarian unit come by that way. It must be self-contained or blocked off somehow.
Really, there should be barbs swarming around that area. There might be another barb city just out of sight... I don't know. I'd just be guessing. :undecide: We just need to play and progress/explore at this point.

As usual, I will be stuck behind my computer in a library over the weekend. So I'll be around to offer my (generally limited ) feedback to the active player.

Great idea. It could kill any possible barb with ease.

Silver canal won't be that bad. It does have gold in second ring, GLH bonus and will most certainly speed the troops up. My faith in importance of that city is immense.

Sorry guys, but I guess I am not that young anymore. I come home tired and crash into bed without performing any of my duties leaving you and even more my wife, disappointed.
If kossin can storm through the game, great. If not, I will find some time to play, but definitely not to storm.

BTW, great GLH, kossin.:goodjob:

Doshin is PD sentinel.

Decisions we have to make are a war path, secondary stack for Gao composition and how many more units we should produce. I also understand we are making Eng+Aesth for CS trade and Compass for HBR+50gold. Cities except frontline SP and BF will focus on forges, while frontline will produce couple more units to speed the conquest up.

Dude, I hope you mean dishes or something otherwise that some serious stuff.

Also I proposed to trade meditation+gold<=>compass to Sury as well. Qin has no feudalism and that will allow him to trade compass (+something, research/money) for it.

Well, dishes too, but I meant more like bed activities...:(

I am still in favor of trading Compass for Currency. It should be available relatively soon.
Currently away from my civ computer and can't check the trades.

We can try optics for currency too, my point is that we give a trading chip in the hands of Qin.
