Capto Iugulum: 1920 - 1939

I agree with the change, it would make things a lot more interesting and could help some people out to learn the game a little quicker.

GLOBAL MEDICAL CONFERENCE HELD IN ITALY. Naples, Italy. The Italian government, as part of its own local effort to spearhead better healthcare and medicine, has invited other nations to send representatives of their own medical community to a large conference in Naples. The stated goal of the conference was to share the most recent developments in the field, helping to expand the knowledge and capabilities of the global healthcare community. Representatives from all over the world converged upon the city, and it proved to be an exciting affair for all, showing the latest and greatest in modern medicine and human biology. Practical advancements such as the new X-ray device, demonstrated by its British inventor, all the way to more radical theories of the workings of the brain proposed by German theorists, have kept the affair in the headlines for months. Similarly, representatives of various nations also talked about mutual support in the case of the outbreak of epidemics, and it seems to have been a marvelous success. Another key element was a display of the effects of chemical weapons, which made great headlines at the same time as the explosion which devastated parts of Iberia. A strong argument has been made that the use of chemical weapons bears a cost which turns even the stoutest hearts. All representatives left the conference satisfied, and with a greater knowledge of their field and better ways to perform medical procedures.

TURKISH PHILANTHROPIST FOUNDS RED CRESCENT. Konya, Turkey. A businessman with strong ties to the Turkish government and humanitarian aims has created the new organization known as the Red Crescent. This organization is dedicated towards improving life and helping spread better healthcare and foodstuffs across the world. So far it has been recognized by a majority of African and Middle Eastern nations, and granted nodding acknowledgement from several European nations. The organization, though secular in its works, has taken a number of undertones from the Qur'an and professes a lightly religious ideology in its efforts. They have so far been refused entrance into the troubled regions of Arabian under colonial rule, but have been heartedly welcomed in places like Libya, Tunisia, and Egypt. Similarly, Mali has welcomed observers from the Red Crescent, as have representatives from Benin after the recent Burgundian atrocities. It seems this organization has gained substantial following, bringing some truth to the idea that the religion of Islam is one of peace, as opposed to the aggression of the Christian states.

FIREWORKS MASSACRE INVESTIGATION YIELDS RESULTS. Xinjing, Guangxi. A collaborative effort between Guangxi's and British intelligence services has offered up a finalized report on the events which led to the Fireworks Massacre and currently ongoing war. These results have been released to the international media, making it one of the largest stories of the year throughout the British Empire and Europe. It has been revealed that the Red Army completely orchestrated the attack themselves, without support or encouragement by China, which remained in the dark about the Red Army's intent. On top of this information, it has been shown that the Red Army had actually notified the Russian government through back channels of the impending disaster, giving Russia ample forewarning of the Red Army's plans. Similarly, the Russians apparently warned the Unified Realm only days before the attack, though no such warning was granted to Guangxi or the United Kingdom. New outrage has emerged in Britain towards Russia, but even greater uproar was turned against the Union Jacks Party, who felt the blow in this year's elections. The British people have called for action to be taken against the true culprits of the massacre, putting the war against the Unified Realm aside. Similarly, this has cast a pall over Russian diplomacy, as they had allowed several nations to lose noted members of government to the Red Army's attack.

MORGAN-SMITH TREATY RENEWED AND EXPANDED. Plymouth, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Diplomats from the United Kingdom and Argentina met this year to discuss the old Morgan-Smith Treaty from 1924, which was up for renewal this year. The treaty itself has been amicably renewed, allowing the continuation of trade rights stipulated within as well as the purchase of naval vessels from the British by Argentina. In addition to the renewal, several new terms have been added, helping to build an even stronger relationship between the kindred states. The new treaty has increased the amount of possible surcharge upon the sale of naval vessels, allowing for greater profits from British naval arms manufacturers. The more important addition, however, has been the inclusion of a defensive pact, establishing a new agreement between the two. This now pledges that both nations will come to each other's aid in the case of an aggressive attack upon the other. Some analysts believe this to be in response to recent bellicose words from Brazil, hoping to bolster the diplomatic security of Argentina's position in South America.

News from Europe

EARTHQUAKE ROCKS SERBIAN CITY. Kosovo, Serbia. Major damage took place this year as an earthquake registering 5.1 on the Clarke Scale devastated the city of Kosovo. Numerous fires were begun, as the emergency forces present attempted to respond to the growing debacle. Thankfully, the earthquake was not followed by too many strong aftershocks, and the disaster was contained to the city itself. The efforts of the military in helping restore order were not unnoticed, as soldiers and even the king himself donated time and aid to the region to help save lives. The devastation was still extensive in the city itself, a major Serbian industrial and economic center. Reconstruction began immediately, and won over the loyalty of the people for the monarchy, as they saw visible signs of improvement. Many are concerned that the recent destruction caused by this year’s coup have set reconstruction back by several months, and the king retains a popular following in Kosovo for his prompt response and aid.

FACTORY EXPLOSION KILLS THOUSANDS IN IBERIA. Estrela, Portugal. A catastrophe of manmade proportions has taken place in western Iberia as a Portuguese factory mass producing chemical weapons for sale to the Spanish Army exploded. For unknown reasons the factory exploded and a massive amount of weaponized chemicals were thrown into the winds, and spread out across the countryside in both Portugal and Spain. Numerous towns and villages were affected by the disaster, and many have gone to the brink of death or beyond. Thousands are estimated to have been killed in the aftermath of the plant’s explosion and this has led to the rise of new protests throughout the civilized world against chemical weapons and their horrific effects. The growing movement has called for the illegalization of chemical warfare and their production. Already it seems that production in Portugal could be shut down as this new disaster has left many children dead from the toxic clouds which spewed forth in the wake of the explosion.

ELECTIONS IN DAUPHINE. Grenoble, Dauphine. Prime Minister RochForestier of Dauphine took a brave stand this year as he called for the holding of national elections despite the ongoing war with Burgundy. The conflict, which threatens the very existence of the nation, has been of course the primary element in the electoral campaign. The New Conservative Party has called for the nation to remain unified behind the prime minister, vowing to win the war and secure the peace. Thanks to the arrival of Occitanian forces, this seems more than a mere promise, and though Grenoble itself was under heavy attack and fire, the elections went through. To the surprise of very few, virtually almost every sitting legislator was reelected, as all pledged the full support of the government to the ongoing war. It seems that the people of Dauphine have not bought into the propaganda of the Burgundians, as the fight wages onward with the endorsement of democracy. Prime Minister RochForestier has been returned to his office, and continues to pledge to lead the nation in this troubled times.

DANISH ELECTIONS HELD. Copenhagen, Denmark. A major electoral sweep took place this year in Denmark as the government faced a strong challenge from the left. The Socialdemokraterne has taken the elements of the highly unpopular bailout program of the conservative government and used it as a platform for attack. They have condemned the conservatives of the FrieFolkeparti for allowing the recession to affect Denmark so harshly. They have also assaulted on the foreign policy front, claiming that the ceaseless antagonism with Scandinavia needs to come to an end to prevent a devastating war. These two platforms have proven highly effective as the spokesman for the Socialdemokraterne, Christian Zahle, has stated that the Danish people should focus not on giant cannons, but rather new support for the worker. The election was an apparent landslide, as the liberals have achieved a major proportion of the vote, but they are highly unpopular with the military, which see themselves as under attack by the new government’s platforms. Zahle has been appointed Statsminister, and has taken up the highest office in Denmark below the King. (+1 Stability)

ELECTIONS IN GALICIA. Santiago de Compostela, Galicia. President Abreu came under extensive challenge this year as the stagnating economy threatened the base of support for both himself and the Social Proletarist Party. The failure of the government to turn around the faltering economic situation has worsened the cause of the social proletarists. The conservative Party of Tradition has blamed the devastating social policies of the proletarists for the current failure of the economy, placing too much of a strain on the government. The Galicians have found themselves at a loss, as it seems the champion of the worker has placed the worker in greater jeopardy than before. The Party of Tradition has played off these fears, waging an effective campaign, and securing themselves the majority in the legislature when the elections came to a close. They have pledged that they will restore the economy and bring back prosperity to Galicia. Conservative leader, InigoCossiga, has been established as the new president by the new conservative majority in the Galician government. It remains to be seen if his efforts truly will bring back a prosperous economy to this Western European nation.

DUTCH ELECTIONS HELD. Amsterdam, Netherlands. The National Party of the Republic in the Netherlands has suffered greatly with the outbreak of the latest economic downturn. Many have accused the conservatives of being responsible for encouraging the horrid ethics and banking fraud which led to the collapse of several major Dutch financial institutions in 1933. The government has done its best to deny this, but the popular consensus has been that the Socialists did a superior job in regulating and governing big business. Therefore the current situation has been firmly cited as a failure of the National Party of the Republic, and the Socialist Party has once more emerged in triumph. StadtsholderJoëlAdrichem has been ousted from his office in favor of Socialist candidate Hans Sterk, while the legislature has turned from a highly conservative one to a high social proletarist one. The Socialists have pledged the resumption of policies which led to prosperity, claiming that by treating the worker right, a nation’s economy soars with them. (+1 Stability)

ELECTIONS IN NORMANDY. Caen, Normandy. The people of Normandy have had much on their plate for this year’s elections, which were sure to be a highly disputed contest. The outbreak of war between Burgundy and Dauphine, the situation in Benin, and the overall economic recession has done much to give concern to the Norman people. The Unified Conservative Party and Prime Minister Phillip Dufort have called for measured and reasoned approaches to Burgundy, sympathizing somewhat with their cause and efforts in Africa. As new reports came out of Benin though as the number of atrocities grew, and the economy was faced with a further spiral, it became all too clear that the business as usual approach would no longer be enough. The revived Septembrist Party has once more come to the fore, calling for a more active role in international politics in the former Confederation, and condemning the activities of Burgundy. They have stated that the aggression of Burgundy cannot stand, and that all efforts must be made to stabilize the local political situation before the economy can recover. This argument has proven successful, and the Septembrists have won a major political victory with these elections, though this has not translated into a full majority. They have been forced to cooperate with smaller liberal parties in order to secure the position of Prime Minister for their favored candidate, Pierre Toubon.

ELECTIONS IN ORLEANS. Orleans, Orleans. Even though the war between Dauphine and Burgundy has been right upon Orleans’ border, the primary concern of this year’s elections has been the faltering local economy. While the New Conservative Party has claimed that the war has had a detrimental effect upon the growth of the economy, they have also stated that the people of Orleans have no part in the conflict. They have claimed that further financial reform and infrastructure projects will help restore the local economy, without the need for foreign interventionism. The liberal Septembrist Party has decided to take a different approach, following in step with their brethren in Normandy. They have agreed that the war is taking its toll upon the economy, but have gone one step forward in stating that the government in Burgundy is an example of everything the Confederation and its successor states have stood against. They have called for intervention in order to return order and peace to the region. These have been highly popular statements, and have won the Septembrists substantial support, and more importantly, the majority in the legislature. Septembrist politician, Jacques Lebou has been appointed the new President of Orleans, and he has vowed that the aggression and government of Burgundy will not be allowed to continue by any right-thinking citizen of Orleans or the former Confederation.

BRITISH ELECTIONS HELD. London, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The British people have taken up the burden of the elective process this year, and the Union Jacks have suffered greatly as a result. The election was to be a close-run contest to begin with, but the nail in the coffin of the conservative cause was the release of the Fireworks Massacre Investigation’s official report. The report led many to believe that the war had all been for naught and based on false pretexts and evidence. The resulting outrage has spurred a rebirth of support for the flagging Labour Party, which has only been slightly tainted by the report. The Labour Party has called for a peace with honor with the Unified Realm of China, so that the real culprits can be brought to justice. Furthermore, they have stated that the aggressive policies of the Union Jacks have helped exacerbate the ongoing recession, claiming that they have their own solution to economic revitalization. With this two-fisted platform, the Labour Party has triumped and gained a majority in Parliament. Edwin Halifax has been invited to form the new Labour Party government, and has been appointed the new Prime Minister of Britain.

PROLETARISTS ARRIVE IN BOSNIA. Sarajevo, Bosnia. Over the past decade, the republican movement in Bosnia has been widely discredited and dismantled through various government activities. Unfortunately, a new threat has emerged to take up the mantle of resistance against the authoritarian monarchy present in the Bosnian nation. Rather than seeking a peaceful exchange of power, the traditional proletarists of the Free Bosnian Front have begun amassing arms and munitions for a violent takeover. They have aggressively begun recruiting throughout the countryside, though many are wary after the recent Russian intervention in Serbia. The government has declared any membership in this organization to be illegal, and that involvement in or support for a plot against the monarchy will be countered with sentences no less than life imprisoned or death.

BRETON PROLETARISTS MARCH FOR RECOGNITION. Nantes, Brittany. The Breton government has been one of the more free and consistent ones over the past few decades, but they have now faced a new group calling for recognition. Though the social proletarists are a legally recognized political entity, their traditional brethren have not been so fortunate, remaining illegal. In recent years, the traditional proletarists have grown more numerous and prevalent, particularly among the nation’s unions. They have yet to be allowed to run political candidates for office, and have sought to rectify the situation. This year they organized a massive protest in Nantes, confronting the government and calling for a new order. They have stated that the Breton people cannot be denied and that electoral reform is required. To the surprise of many, the call for reform has been answered by a conservative majority government, allowing the participation of traditional proletarist parties in new elections. Some cynics believe that this is likely a ploy to split the liberal opposition, allowing the conservatives to continue to retain their majority.

PROTESTS IN CECHY-MORAVA. Prague, Cechy-Morava. The worsening recession has led to a number of older factories, especially those with government contracts, beginning to close down. As unemployment rises in Cechy-Morava, so has the amount of dissent and unrest, as the people have nothing else to occupy their time. This year several major protests were held in Prague against the closure of several old automotive factories that had been operated by German corporations. These factories created employment for much of the population of Prague and the surrounding areas, and the closure has put them out into the streets. The government has only made things worse by being unable to agree upon a response to the worsening economic situation, which has only been exacerbated this year by the loss of these major factories. President Kovac has appealed for calm, promising that the economy will recover as new business is created and new trade opportunities emerge.

CORSICANS CALL OUT UNFAIR POLITICAL SYSTEM. Ajaccio, Corsica. New protests emerged in the small island nation of Corsica this year as the National Reform Party has called out an unjust political arrangement. Under the workings of the Corsica constitution, the conservative Party of Tradition is greatly favored, as the districts and provinces are arranged to their benefit, as are voting laws. The National Reform Party has called for implementation of a new, more fair, system to allow the right to vote to all of the nation’s citizens in an equitable manner. They have advocated taking power out of the hands of the wealthy landowners and putting it into the hands of the masses. The leaders of the Party of Tradition have condemned these protests, and several arrests were made by local law enforcement. This has done more to tarnish the reputation of the current politicians than it has to quell dissident sentiment, and some believe this could end badly for the conservatives come the 1935 elections. REFORMERS ORGANIZE IN CROATIA. Zagreb, Croatia. After years of calm support for the Croatian monarchy, it seems as though the faltering economy has begun to take its toll upon local politics. As numerous businesses close and only those apparently favored by the monarchy thrive and advance, it seems that there is less wealth to share and more troubles to be had. With no outlet for their frustration, a number of workers have established the Croatian Freedom Movement, a political organization dedicated to the formation of a democratic regime. So far they have advocated nonviolent means of political pressure to help force the king to enact reforms and bring about a peaceable solution to the problems at hand. So far the movement is widely resisted by the regime and its supporters, but thankfully for all concerned, no violence has emerged from either side. For now, the republicans seem to be mustering support as they look towards a hopefully brighter future.

STRIKE BROKEN IN EUSKADI. Bilbao, Euskadi. Tensions mounted in Euskadi this year as the National Shipyard Workers Union declared a strike in effort to negotiate for higher wages across the board. The strike effectively shut down a good portion of both Euskadi’s imports and exports, as well as the military docks, leaving ships unserviced by their land crews. This was the final straw for the government, and the strike was declared an illegal activity, and military units were mobilized to crack down upon them. Twenty-four hours were given to vacate the premises, and some of the strikers departed, but most did not. Upon the conclusion of the time, the army immediately moved in, and several dozen were badly injured in the attack. The strike was rapidly dispersed, and most have since been fired by their former employers, while new ones have come in under military guard. It is believe that several key leaders of the agitators may have been killed or disabled in the process of the strike, and it has taken some of the fire out of their enthusiasm for further demonstrations.

RIOTS KILL HUNDREDS IN FLANDERS AND SPUR UNION SCANDAL. Brussels, Flanders. An unusually hot summer and worsening economic conditions created a perfect storm of unrest this year, combined with increased agitation from the more traditional proletarist unions. A major protest was spurred by these unions, calling for the establishment of a true proletarist regime, and the protest soon turned violent. The army was called in and forced to use their arms to restore order, killing dozens, and more of them came under attack by angry mobs. The police and military did their best to restore order, and the government immediately appealed for calm in such a chaotic situation. The riots eventually died down and it was discovered some of the worst agitators of the traditional proletarists had actually been financed by the regime in Scandinavia. Public outrage has erupted throughout Flanders, as the opposition denounced the Scandinavian government ,claiming that their actions solely supported these bloody riots. The hatred created towards Scandinavia and traditional proletarism has done much to spur unity, helping to increase the overall stability of the nation. (+1 Stability)

IRA ESTABLISHED. Rome, Papal States. The Papacy has more or less managed a good deal of the threats that have come their way, but this year a new force has emerged, with considerable resources and influence. The proletarist leadership in the Papal States has declared the formation of the Italian Republican Army, a force dedicated to the overthrow of both the governments in Naples and Rome. They have declared that the will of the people will prevail over antiquated regimes of theocracy and monarchy. These forces have begun to muster their own munitions and arms, and have begun waging an active propaganda campaign against the Papacy and its Inquisition. The Inquisition has done its best to hunt down the leaders and safe houses of the movement, but so far this force has managed to elude the best inquisitors. The IRA has clearly begun mobilizing their efforts, and some are concerned that this could be the precursor to open rebellion and civil war upon the Italian peninsula.

VOXPOPULI LEADERS ARRESTED. Athens, Roman Empire. The Roman Empire made a significant coup this year as the key leadership of the VoxPopuliwere identified and arrest by the Praetorian Guard. The movement has been declared responsible for over a dozen different attempts made upon the life of the Imperator and other actions which have contributed to the instability of the empire. The success was made possible by combined intelligence operations between the Praetorian Guard and the Russian Emperor’s Hand. The highest leadership of the republican Greek movement has been thoroughly gutted and dismantled, though some of the lower ranking leaders are believed to have fled to various Western nation. The Roman government has declared the intelligence operations major successes, and has announced them as the end of the VoxPopuli and the threat they once posed to the Roman people. (+1 Stability)

POLAND IN CHAOS. Warsaw, Russia. The Russian government faced a major uprising as the Polish Underground has led a massive guerilla operation against the local imperial authorities. The attacks have been coordinated and efficient, and have caused severe damage to Russian operations throughout Poland. Among the attacks have been the assassinations of several governors in Poland, bombings upon imperial buildings, and outright attacks on isolated Russian units and positions. The attacks have been wildly successful and have begun to spur further efforts to destabilize the Russian rule over Poland. The Russian army has been mobilized to even greater strength in Poland and along the German border, as the Emperor denounces these alleged proletarist insurgents, seeking to overthrow a God-appointed monarchy. The Poles have vowed to continue the fight, and some believe that these words could be the opening salvos of a full blown uprising throughout imperial Russia’s Polish provinces. RUSSIANS CRUSH COUP IN SERBIA. Belgrade, Serbia. The close ties of the Serbian monarchy to that of Russia has long been a matter of concern to the Serbian military. Many officers have equally strong relationships with officers in Croatia and Germany, and they are not fond of the idea of Russian and Roman dominion over the Balkans. Therefore, a cabal of these discontent officers soon organized their forces and launched a coup, placing King Aleksander under arrest and declaring martial law. They immediately began making overtures to the Germans and British, but soon their efforts were stopped, as Russian forces swooped in to “restore order.” The Serbian army fought as valiantly as they could, but most chose to stand aside, rather than face certain annihilation by the Russian onslaught. The Russian army quickly restored order to Belgrade, arresting the cabal’s leaders who didn’t flee, and the rightful monarch was restored to his throne. The Russian army has stationed numerous soldiers in the region to protect the government from further insurgencies, claiming that proletarist conspiracies will always seek to undermine good, God-fearing governments.

RECONCILERS EMERGE IN BRITAIN. London, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The growing antagonism and numerous conflicts between Britain and Russia have begun to emerge as an issue of great concern to a small selection of British citizens. The Peace and Reconciliation Party has emerged as a political movement claiming that peace can be had if the British people simply leave well enough alone. Created as a counter-movement to recent British political press campaigns in the cinema, they have stated that the British and Russian people have few interests in conflict, and much in common. The PRP has stated that the Russian people are entitled to their sphere of influence, much as the British should be entitled to their empire. They have advocated a live and let live policy, and some have even suggested that by siding with the Russians over the Germans or Scandinavians, the British Empire could last a thousand years. The PRP has further pledged to put as many of their supporters into political office in 1937, stating “Britain for the Britons, and Russia for the Russians.” For the time being they remain an isolated fringe party, as the Fireworks Massacre remain fresh in the minds of the British people, but there is some concern that should casualties mount in the simmering conflict with the Russians, the PRP could grow in size and influence.

SWISS MAKE HEALTHCARE REFORM. St Gallen, Switzerland. The highly successful medical conference in Naples has turned heads around the world, as civic-minded regimes look to improve the lot of their citizens. The Swiss, have made a strong push to help further finance their own state healthcare and development program. They have provided a substantial amount of fresh funding to provide hospitals with new equipment and financing, supplying the best in medical equipment and new buildings. Good doctors have been poached from across the world, and many now allege that the Swiss medical system could be the finest globally. This has been proclaimed as yet another political and social success for President Christian Zilberschlag, and will likely help spur further victories in the upcoming 1935 elections.

HOLLANDE ASSASSINATED IN PARIS. Paris, Burgundy. Disaster struck the government of Burgundy this year as Alexander Hollande, Chancellor of the empire, was assassinated by a sniper at a speech in Paris. The chancellor was on one of his typical disjointed rants upon a shambled stage in front of supporters, when he was shot from across the square. The assassin was not caught, and managed to elude all of the efforts of the local law enforcement and military intelligence to catch him. The death was immediately bereaved by the press in Burgundy, and Hollande’s designated successor, Phillip de Gaulle, has been appointed the new chancellor. Conspiracy theories abound as to who the sniper was, and the government has claimed that this was the first strike by the forces of Dauphine against Burgundy. More reliable sources have reported a German man has been loudly shouting about how he was the man who pulled the trigger, but little evidence exists to verify this. Conspiracies abound from a Brazilian special forces team, a Russian conspiracy, and even all the way to rival forces within the Burgundian government.

WAR SPARKED BETWEEN FRENCH STATES. Dijon, Burgundy. The assassination of Alexander Hollande was merely the first of two such attempts, and the more successful of the two. Only a couple of months later, Emperor Joseph II was nearly killed himself by assassins in a similar manner. In this case, they were caught, and interrogated, and according to the state press, were members of Dauphine’s secret police force. International free press lambasted this declaration, as Dauphine quite notably does not have a secret police force beyond minor law enforcement operations. Despite the flagrant lie, the government of Burgundy proclaimed that French unification was at hand and declared war upon Dauphine. Occitania immediately declared war in retaliation, and Orleans and Normandy have likewise mobilized their forces. The Burgundian attack was a horrific failure, as Occitanian and Dauphine’s planes swatted the invading aircraft out of the skies with ease. The Burgundian forces were badly coordinated and poorly trained, with obsolete equipment, with the sole exception of their Russian-made tanks. These proved effective in engaging Occitanian armor, but were insufficient as their infantry support was quickly defeated. An attempt to take Grenoble was easily repulsed, and Burgundy’s armies have been utterly routed by the defending forces. Rather than launching an offensive their own, the army of Dauphine has secured a strong buffer of territory north of Grenoble. They have been widely supported by the citizens of Burgundy, who are well aware of the false nature of the declaration of war.

PROHIBITION IN SPAIN. Madrid, Spain. The election of a religious government backed by the Catholic Church in Spain has had one key development this year, as Prime Minister Eduardo Gomez pushed forward his own private pet project. This has included the outlawing of all hard liquors, such as vodka, whiskey, and other drinks along those veins. Various types of lighter beers and wines have been allowed, particularly in regards to those used for religious purposes. The new laws have followed a trend gripping moralist nations, helping to fight the problems and impropriety that mass consumption of liquor can produce. The Church itself remains divided on the issue, as the Papacy itself has not condemned hard liquors, though lower members of the clergy often have a dissenting opinion, and have mostly backed the new legislation throughout Spain. There have been some protests, and a notable rise in crime since the passing of the new laws, as smuggling begins as hard liquors are brought in from across the borders throughout Spain. Several of the protests have called for the repeal of the laws, but most legislators agree that it is too early to call it a failure and that repealing such a law so quickly could only diminish the legitimacy of the government.

News from the Americas

ELECTIONS IN COLOMBIA. Bogota, Colombia. Colombia has suffered greatly in recent years as the global recession and reduction of commerce has diminished the wealth of the nation. Furthermore, the devastation caused by fires has been left dormant from government activity, and many remain homeless. Much of the blame has been heaped upon the government, especially the legislature. A large number of people have begun to argue that if the Party of Tradition was not so busy being so holy, the recent problems could have been averted. The backlash has been mostly in the legislature, as President Rodriguez retains substantial popular support, despite the recent disasters. The elections have resulted in a new, liberal, legislature which has opposed the development of prohibition among other platforms of moralist policy pushed forward by the conservatives and the president. They have further advocated a freer marketplace and a more independent, and isolationist foreign policy, allowing the nation to fix its own problems first. President Rodriguez and the new Congress are clearly aligned against each other, and many fear a growing stagnation of the government in the election’s aftermath. (-1 Stability)

ELECTORAL CHAOS BRINGS REGIME CHANGE IN ECUADOR. Quito, Ecuador. This was scheduled to be the next year of shifting elections in the South American nation of Ecuador, but political chaos brought about a change in plans. The worsening economic situation, the rise of local proletarist movements, and the worsening stability in Colombia have caused much concern among the voters of Ecuador. The recession has hit hardest here, or so it is said, than the rest of South America, and resentment towards Peruvian and Colombian businessmen is at a fevered pitch. When it came time to vote, no major political party was able to harness the resentment of the electorate, finding it instead turned towards against the establishment. With a traditional proletarist party gaining strength in the polls, it was feared that a new regime and a war could erupt, much like after the prior rise of a proletarist movement in the nation. In order to forestall this inevitable conclusion, elements of the military, backed by key leaders in the local Catholic Church, declared martial law and disbanded Ecuador’s Congress. A military government has been formed behind King Simon IV as a figurehead, as the army launches a major crackdown over the rest of the nation. General Mauricio Suero has been appointed as the new head of government, and has pledged to protect the people and nation from the dire threat of proletarism. (+1 Stability)

ELECTIONS IN HISPANIOLA. Santo Domingo, Hispaniola. The elections in Hispaniola began on a sad note this year as the much beloved President, Ruben del Salvador, announced he would not be running for a fourth term in the elections. He has endorsed his vice president, Guillermo Carvallo as his successor, a new member of the majority Party of Order. Though much of the world has seen troubles caused by the ongoing recession, the average people of Hispaniola have been predominantly unaffected, remaining mostly isolated on a number of plantations. Therefore, the economy was not a dominant feature of the ongoing election campaigns. Instead, much was focused upon Hispaniola’s involvement and aid towards Jamaica and a local dispute emerging over the great gulf between the island’s wealthy and the island’s poor. Eventually this proved irrelevant, as the Party of Order has retained its comfortable position as the majority political group. Guillermo Carvallo handily won the election for presidency, and has taken up the mantle of his noble predecessor as the second president of Hispaniola.

PERUVIAN ELECTIONS HELD AMONG PROTESTS. Lima, Peru. The Peruvian people have apparently had enough of the conservative powerhouse that has effectively ruled the nation since its inception. This year the typically cordial elections were marred by extensive protests and rallies, calling for the support of the leftist New Progressive Party. While not quite proletarist in their ideology, they have called for the legalization of all political parties and the reformation of a freer society. The move has also been combined with a public campaign distancing government from religion, proclaiming a more secular society. The rule of the conservatives has been claimed to have been devastating to the economy, and it has been argued that a focus on secular and worldly concerns is needed to restore peace and stability to the nation. The New Progressive Party has won a substantial majority over the Peruvian Congress, allowing them to appoint the new President, Andres Spera. The new President has promised to push forward new reforms and development, creating a prosperous new era for Peru and its people. (+1 Stability)

OPPONENTS CLAIM FLORIDA ARMY UNDERSTRENGTH. Dallas, Florida. While the victory of the United Front has led to a more open and fair government in the North American nation of Florida, there has been numerous concerns raised by conservative opponents. The conservative opposition has claimed that the United Front has allowed the Floridian army to slip to proportions that are understrength when compared to the nation’s neighbors. They have warned against the growing threats of the United Proletarist Republics of America, and the unrest which has gripped the United States of America. The conservatives have further claimed that the army has not been rebuilt quickly enough since the end of the war, despite the conflict having only ended recently. The protests have been noted as not much more than a political ploy, as the conservatives seek to strengthen their positions for the 1936 elections.

MASSIVE REBELLION TAKES HARSH TOLL ON AMERICAN WEST. Denver, United States of America. The outbreak of war between the United States of America and the United Proletarist Republics of America has led to a prime opportunity for the slaves of the superplantations of the West to rise in open revolt. After years of amassing support and munitions, the technically free, but impressed workers of the great mines and fields of the West have risen in a full rebellion against their overseers. The rebels managed to overwhelm local military forces and airfields, though much of the heavier equipment was destroyed by the American army before it could be captured. The fighting soon became a racial war as the black population took out centuries of hatred upon the white populations, and the city of Denver was captured and looted by the rebels. The Colorado Proletarist Republic was proclaimed, as local factories and armories were mobilized to join the fight against the United States. Unfortunately, at this point the would-be revolution began to fall apart. When it became clear that the American government would respond with massive force and very little mercy, a goodly number of blacks fled into Jacksonia, where they were granted asylum and a new place to live. The rest chose to stay and fight, and the resulting battle was bloody, as considerable American troops were brought from the East to fight. As the rebels lacked any artillery, armor, or aircraft, the outcome was inevitable, though they put up a bloody fight regardless. Numerous American lives were lost, as the blacks fought to the death, rarely surrendering if ever. Those few who were captured were executed for treason, and eventually order was restored, if at the cost of the commitment of a large part of the American army. URUGUAYAN CRIME BEGINS TO RISE. Montevideo, Uruguay. The passing of harsh prohibition laws has been opposed by liberal elements of the population and government, but the moralist regime has stood firm. The prohibition has begun to see a rise in criminal smuggling and behavior as liquors are brought in from Paraguay and Argentina. Even some beers are snuck across the border with Brazil, and the Uruguayan government has seen increased amounts of criminal activity and violence as powerful gangs fight over the lucrative routes. The police have struggled to crack down upon this illegal behavior, while the government has begun to appeal to the nation’s neighbors to do their part to stop these thugs from their activities. The liberal opposition has begun loudly proclaiming this to be justification of their cause, but it seems unlikely that the rising crime rate will do much to discourage the government from their course of action.

PRESIDENT LOCKWOOD ANNOUNCES NEW PROJECT FOR FLORIDA. Galveston, Florida. The Floridian president announced this year an ambitious new plan to help bolster the eastern coast of the North American nation against future military attacks and natural disasters. President Lockwood has stated that the 1931 Galveston Hurricane showed how a region could be devastated if not prepared. Therefore, the project currently in place will endeavor to bolster already extant levees, build new ones, and otherwise fortify and reinforce existing port and military facilities along the east coast. Overall the program has been lauded as a good idea from the president, though some critics have claimed that the effort is only directed towards making people forget the failure of the Colorado River War and its aftermath. Proponents of the plan have brushed aside all naysaying, stating that this project will create new jobs, as well as helping keep the nation safe from both mother nature and enemy powers.

REPUBLIC OF JAMAICA RESTORED. Kingston, Jamaica. Ever since the aftermath of the Portuguese invasion of Jamaica, the proletarist government on the island has been backed and kept in place by the efforts of the United Proletarist Republics of America. The massive military presence on the island has kept the highly unpopular government together and held off previous Brazilian attempts to remove it. This year, as American pressure mounts upon the UPRA and its forces back home, they made the decision to withdraw the forces present in Jamaica to fight on the home front. In the process, they declared martial law, seizing anything of military value, and destroying the fortifications they had built over the years. The Jamaican navy was seized, along with numerous local merchant vessels and ships of all shapes and sizes in the harbor. The Jamaican government and other proletarists also fled with the forces of the UPRA as naval forces from around the Caribbean began to close in. They managed to escape, leaving a tattered nation in chaos in their wake. If not for the timely arrival of Colombian, Mayan, and Brazilian forces, the Jamaican people could well have starved. These arrivals were welcomed in the process, as was ample Vinlander food aid and reconstruction. A coalition government has been established from the wreckage of the nation, as the people of Jamaica begin to put a new life back together for themselves and their island. The proletarists executed most of the imprisoned dissidents before departing, but one of the few moderate survivors, Jason Dove has been appointed the temporary President while a new constitution is formed. THE RECLAMATION WAR. Chattanooga, United Proletarist Republics of America. The war between the United Proletarist Republics of America and the United States of America has proven to be one of the bloodiest conflicts the continent has ever seen. The brutal struggle exists along every inch of border, even as river boats clash upon the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers and planes dogfight in the skies. The fight lessened a bit as the massive uprising in the western USA dragged a considerable amount of troops off the front. In the skies, the UPRA received assistance from an unexpected sector, as Catalan volunteers have come to the skies to help protect the region from oppression. The vicious air battles that have ensued have kept the skies in constant dispute, as despite superior numbers, the Americans have yet to be able to fully overpower their opponents. On the ground, the year started as the Americans continued their advance towards the vital intersection of Pensacola, hoping to seize the vital harbor there and cut East Florida off from the rest of the UPRA. The fighting eventually was drawn into the city itself, as the American army fought house to house to remove the proletarist presence, ultimately achieving their goals, but at a heavy cost. As the snows began to clear, the proletarists made the next move, as the Americans were forced to draw troops off to crush the uprising in the west. Short of supplies, the Americans clashed on the East Florida peninsula and otherwise held the lines where they could. In the so-called Summer Offensive, a major UPRA push was made towards the major industrial center of Atlanta out of the Appalachians. The attack was a major tactical surprise, catching the American flank off guard and breaking through the lines. The loss of Atlanta severely disrupted American supply lines, and the UPRA continued the advance through Georgia, pushing towards the Atlantic Ocean. In a desperate move, the American armies did their best to pull back, as they came under assault on all fronts. The UPRA continued the push forward, eventually taking Savannah, isolating a substantial American force. The Americans, cut off from overland supply and support, were faced with the possibility of encirclement, and desperately held onto the captured port of Saint Augustine. The US Navy helped withdraw the surviving forces, as the proletarist net began to close in, winning a major strategic and tactical victory for the UPRA . With full control of Georgia, the UPRA has begun to push north, though they have begun to meet heavy resistance as troops return from the vicious fighting in the west. Still, the year has been recognized as a victorious one for the UPRA's cause.

MAYALAND PROCLAIMED A MONARCHY. Belize, Mayaland. The Mayan military government under Ceh Pech has long been a source of contention throughout the region, having been isolated from the Pan-American Democratic Accord and associated agreements. With the nation's involvement and support for Brazil's efforts in Jamaica, it seems that a page has turned in Mayan history. The Mayan leader has taken a final step towards consolidating his power, announcing what he has proclaimed to be a glorious victory over the proletarists in Jamaica. With the support and supervision of the local Church, Ceh Pech has been proclaimed King Ceh of the Mayan Kingdom. This royal new title has sought to stabilize and legitimize his rule, by establishing a clear line of succession from father to son. Many believe that this effort was just in time, as the newly minted king has grown old, and had not yet appointed a designated heir. The military has backed this move, continuing to support Ceh Pech and all of his domestic agendas and platforms. Any opposition domestically has been silenced, though Jacksonia has withdrawn its embassy and recognition of the current regime in protest. Other nations have been fairly silent upon the matter.

ARGENTINA REDUCES FORTIFICATION SCOPE. Buenos Aires, Argentina. After international backlash from Brazil and Chile, the Argentine government took a step back from its announced program of construction of new border fortifications. Instead, it has scaled back the project to merely modernizing and update older border forts along the Brazilian frontier, while continuing construction on newer projects along the border with Chile. The Argentine government has declared that it has no desire to escalate the situation further, seeking to provide a calm and reasoned approach to the incessant threats and bluster of the Brazilian foreign office. Foreign governments have applauded the Argentine approach, helping to defuse a tense situation with relatively little effort and expense.

COLOMBIA ESTABLISHES NEW SURVEY BUREAU. Bogota, Colombia. With the fall of the supporters of President Rodriguez, mostly in the wake of the disastrous fires that plagued the nation last year, an attempt was made to garner support for the elections at the last moment. Though the measure failed to gain proper support to aid in a electoral victory, it has been an emerging success socially. The establishment of the Colombian Infrastructure and Survey Bureau, the Colombian regime has taken steps to make sure that negligence and equipment failure will no longer lead to such tragedies. This new bureau is dedicated towards the maintenance and repair of the oil pipelines, roads, and other facilities managed by the government. Despite the harsh divisions between the president and the new legislature, the bureau was approved by all sections of government, and has been heralded as a triumph of President Rodriguez, taking steps to help prevent further suffering from industrial disaster.

KING CARLOS II FOUND ARCHEOLOGICAL SOCIETY. Lima, Peru. The ancient Incan ruins of the interior of Peru have been treated harshly over the past hundred years, first under Spanish colonial rule, then under the newly independent governments that followed. Multiple ruins were destroyed in efforts to expand the nation's infrastructure and resource collection, with little thought provided for the history of these structures. King Carlos II of Peru has sought to begin to reverse this trend and preserve some of the ancient tales of his nation and people. With the support of the legislature, the Royal Peruvian Archeological Institute has been created, to preserve and excavate the remaining older ruins across the nation. Most find this development meeting approval, as a good way to not only create employment, but also to help boost knowledge and awareness of the deep history of Peru and the states that preceded Spanish conquest.

PERU BEGINS DEVELOPING THE INTERIOR. Sucre, Peru. On the heels of the announcement of the new archeological institute, the government has also begun pushing forward the mass construction of new railroads and highways. Much of the nation's interior provinces have been fairly neglected over the past thirty years, and many still have dirt roads and aging railroads. President Andres Spera has promised that with the new program, the luxury of paved roads and railroad transportation would be expanded throughout the county. This has been launched in conjunction with a similar program in Paraguay, hoping to unite the transit systems of both nations to improve commerce and trade. The construction has been brought well underway, though it is estimated to cost great amounts, it could help modernize and develop Peru into the twentieth century at last. Opponents have recoiled at the cost of the scheme, and warn against the risk of bankrupting the nation in the effort to improve it.

COSTA RICA-NICARAGUAN WAR CONTINUES. Managua, Nicaragua. The bitter struggle between Costa Rica and Nicaragua continued in Central America this year, as the Colombian air force eased off their own campaign against the Costa Ricans. The lessening of Colombian involvement has not altered the situation in the skies, as Nicaragua has begun fielding numerous new Portuguese-built aircraft to help decimate enemy positions in the field. Thanks to overwhelming numbers and airpower, the Nicaraguans have once more shifted things in their favor after heavy fighting. The Costa Ricans have fought hard and held every little town and village with a tough fight, dragging out the struggle throughout the year. At last it seems fighting has come to a head as the Costa Ricans have been forced into a battle of attrition around the city of San Jose, which has begun being constantly pounded by Nicaraguan aircraft and artillery. Allegedly negotiations have begun between the two nations, and it seems likely that a peace will be made early in 1935.

PARAGUAY BEGINS HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION. Asunción, Paraguay. As Uruguay completes its own construction, and Peru starts efforts too, the nation of Paraguay began to develop new highways systems for itself. The new plans for the nation's infrastructure include numerous new bridges and highways of paved roads to match those of Brazil and Uruguay in quality and size. The new roads are planned to connect to similar roads in Brazil, Argentina, and Peru, and optimists state that the invention of the highway could very well turn Paraguay into the nexus of South American overland trade and commerce. The new highways are planned to be a project taking multiple years, and negotiations have been had with similar construction authorities in both Brazil and Peru, to help foster the effort and provide consultation in development. As a massive initial investment has been established, the Paraguayan government claims that the project will likely be completed no later than 1937, starting a new era in Paraguay's history.

URUGUAY COMPLETES HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION. Montevideo, Uruguay. The Uruguayans have announced the completion of a highly anticipated project designed to provide new commerce and trade to their small country. After the completion of the great highway network along Brazil's coast, it was determined that Uruguay could use a similar project of its own. This new system was designed to follow the same policies and construction as Brazil, hoping to interconnect the two economies even further in trade. The program was successfully concluded this year as the final highways were opened for automotive traffic, connecting overland trade to both Brazil and Argentina. It is hoped that the Argentines will begin similar improvements, helping to develop the burgeoning highway system that seems to be establishing itself across South America.

BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT URGES WOMEN TO RETURN TO THE KITCHEN. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Moralist Party in Brazil has begun an ambitious new social propaganda policy, stating that the woman's role in modern society should remain in the house and kitchen. The new effort at propaganda has been seen in Brazilian films, in literature, and throughout the nation, as the government encourages this behavior by offering higher wages to men to help support growing families. The moralists have seen themselves as the guardians of the traditional family unit, and have sought to reverse the trend of a greater female presence in business activities. Though some traditionally feminine professions have remained opened, it seems likely that the Brazilian economy will continue forcing out those who have roles in the economy that are better thought of as male jobs or duties.

News from Africa and the Middle East

WAR IN SOUTHWEST AFRICA. Rundu, Ovamboland. A brutal new conflict has erupted among the young nations of southern Africa, as the Chokwe and Ovambo, former brothers in arms against Angola, have begun fighting. Negao Jasso of the Chokwe has proclaimed that the Ovambos’ proletarist government threatens the peace and stability of the region, and the well-being of the people. He has declared the regime of Syndic Amadi Beloyi to be illegitimate and forfeit, pledging to establish a much more stable and righteous system for the Ovambo people. The Empire of Brazil has offered their own support to the Chokwe cause, initiating a blockade off the coast of Ovamboland, preventing the arrival of further supplies from other proletarist states. The Syndic has pledged to fight to the last, and prepared military forces to respond to the attack, which began quickly and effectively. Despite some minor initial gains by the Chokwe forces, the offensive stalled against determined resistance, as supply lines were sabotaged and the Ovambo fought bitterly. The Chokwe continued their advances, but with heavy casualties, and it seems that the fight has stagnated as the year draws on. It is suspected that fighting will remain heavy well into next year, though most observers doubt the long-term ability of the Ovambo to wage a war of attrition.

STRIKE RESOLVED IN KURDISTAN. Cizre, Kurdistan. Last year’s onset of a strike by the Kurdish Union of Railway Workers has kept the nation in a state of lockdown as both sides have failed to budge on the matter. As the nation’s legislature has been stagnated in debates and discussion, President Juda Amjad has made the first move. President Amjad called for immediate negotiations, likely favorable to the working class. With his pressure and guidance, sweeping new reforms has been passed by the legislature, ensuring growing popularity with the workers of Kurdistan. These new reforms have implemented the formal recognition of the right of unions to negotiate with business and government, minimum safety regulations, and a bureau to oversee and regulate industry. The recent global economic downturn has made it quite relevant to take action, and this recent crisis has allowed the government to shift the balance of power between it and industry to its favor. It seems quite likely that these may be only the first of numerous concessions big business is forced to make in this debacle, but for the time being, the critical strike has come to an end. ZULU KING CALLS NEW PARLIAMENT. Bulawayo, Zululand. After last year’s dramatic speech by King Shaka III, it has become clear that it was not just a gesture to end the protests. The king has announced the formation of a new legislative parliament, though he retains the final word in any foreign or domestic matter. Elections are scheduled to take place next year to allow time for proper formation of party ideals and organization, leading to the establishment of a democratic regime. The new government will continue to feature the king as head of state, but a new position of prime minister will act as the head of the legislature, a powerful person in his own right. The prime minister will be appointed by the rest of the ministers in Parliament, after the primary elections are held throughout the nation. Foreign observers have applauded the move, particularly from London, which has stated that this seems to be a positive step forward to closer ties with the enlightened nations of the Western world. The effort has been highly popular at home, and the king now possesses greater acclaim than ever from among the populace. (+1 Stability)

ELECTIONS IN THE KONGO. Haraldsholm, Kongo. To the surprise of none, the current ongoing war against the Mali has been the primary focus of the elections among the Scandinavian people of Kongo. The fighting has been on a brutal scale, and it seems likely to continue, as forces of the League of the Three Emperors remain bogged down in harsh terrain. The fighting has been ugly, and with the recent atrocities in Benin, the people of Haraldsholm have become concerned that their own soldiers may reach such depraved levels. Chancellor Henrik Eklund has vowed to stand firm behind his allies, and has pledged to continue the fight to retain control and capability befitting an imperial nation. So far, the platform seems to stand on its own, and the people eligible to vote have once more elected Eklund and the rest of the National Vanguard Party back to office.

KURDISH ELECTIONS HELD. Cizre, Kurdistan. The Kurdish people underwent the lengthy process of new elections this year, as their representatives fought for their positions and authority against coming challengers. The success of negotiations ending the Railway Union strike created a strong position for the liberal Progressive Party, helping bolster their popularity and support among the workers. President Amjad himself has become one of the most popular personalities within Kurdistan due to the support he has offered for the working class. His endorsement of a number of candidates has led to climbing support for the Progressive Party and their agendas, despite the worsening economy. The president has called for the Kurdish people to unite and work together to help restore the economic well-being of the nation, and it seems the people have followed this cry. The Progressive Party has increased its majority and President Amjad has retained his position as head of government.

ELECTIONS IN MOZAMBIQUE. Mozambique, Mozambique. The troubled nation of Mozambique has had more added onto its list of woes this year as the election process was full of accusations of corruption. Chancellor Rashed Löfgren and his Liberal Party have been accused of tampering with the final vote in order to retain their position of power. Significant amounts of evidence continued to heap up against them, and the overwhelming victory in the elections this year has been appropriately tarnished. It is believed that through methods of bribery, intimidation, and double-counting, the Liberal Party achieved victory with more votes than there were actual voters. Regardless, the Liberals have celebrated their victory and majority, even as a tide of resentment and unrest builds against them and their cause. People have begun turning more to radical movements and groups, threatening a number of types of unrest to emerge in coming years. (-1 Stability)

ZAMBIAN ELECTIONS HELD. Lusaka, Zambia. In the elections held this year in the African nation of Zambia, one of the rising concerns has been the outbreak of war between the country’s neighbors of Chokweland and Ovamboland. The violent struggle has stalemated and very few Zambians forget the hostility of the Chokwe during the recent confrontation with Burundi. Some liberal and social proletarist politicians have begun calling for the support of the Ovambo in the conflict, building their platform around interventionism. The conservatives have instead reminded the people of the bloodshed of Zambia’s last war, calling for continued isolation, while remaining protective of the nation’s borders. By enflaming passions for revenge, the Socialist Party has managed to come to the forefront, allying with other leftist parties to achieve the majority this year. The Socialists have further promised new social reform, as well as support for the brother Ovambo in their war against tyranny. Socialist leader, Peter Damron, has been appointed the new Prime Minister, and has offered his full political, if not military, support to the Ovambo people. (+1 Stability)

SLAUGHTER TURNS TO REVOLUTION IN BENIN. Lokoja, Benin. Burgundian colonial authorities began a major initiative of monstrous proportions this year, which in turn spurred a full-blown uprising and revolt against European rule. The unrest began as the French army began an effort to poison the water supplies and food sources of several key villages and towns. Word quickly spread that the effort was to be launched as an attempt to purge the colony of the undesirable black population. After sickness spread, and the source was determined to be poisoned, the French logistical problems came to the fore, and the poisoning had to stop, particularly as war erupted in Europe. The Burgundians then began the direct approach of systematically wiping out villages throughout rural areas, simply by attempting to round up the inhabitants, imprison them, and execute them. Each village offered resistance, and were often forewarned by sympathetic French soldiers or citizens. This led to the attacks becoming just against villages as a whole, until eventually the local resistance under General Emile Dawon organized their forces and struck back. The rebel forces greatly outnumbered the Burgundian troops, and soon secured much of the Benin interior. They pushed their way south, and eventually took the main population centers, unleashing their rage against both the white population and the soldiers who had attacked their families and homes in the north. This great butchery led to any whites in the area being rapidly slaughtered by a vengeful mob, and many fled where they could, despite fuel shortages. In order to protect the navy of Burgundy from capture, the fleet was scuttled in Lagos harbor, as sailors and soldiers attempted to flee to friendly territories in Britain while they still could. General Dawon has proclaimed the Free Nation of Benin, and has declared European colonial rule to be at an end. Norman and Poitou representatives have protested this gross failure of Burgundy in Paris, and seem to be at greater odds than ever before over their interests in Benin.

ARABS MOVE TO STIR UP TROUBLE IN GERMAN AND ITALIAN HOLY LAND. Damascus, Germany. The recent revolt in Filastin did much to diminish localized Arabic nationalism and support for their cause, but it has not removed it completely. Though the old stockpiles of the Arabian Empire are depleted, there remain many Arabs seeking to punish the Europeans for their occupation of the region. In the German holdings this year, a new group has begun to organize, calling for a new holy war against the Germans, seeking to overthrow the government in favor of an Islamic regime. They have decried the new “crusader states” and have begun mobilizing their forces for military action against German and other Catholic holdings in the Holy Land. The German colonial authority has illegalized the Arabic Islam Fighters, and they have looked towards arresting anyone associated with the movement and its violent aims. The Italians have found the movement growing within their own borders, and have taken similar measures to reduce their efficiency and legality. The armies of both Germany and Italy stand on watch, wary of another outbreak of local religious violence and warfare.

REVOLT CRUSHED IN BRITISH CENTRAL AFRICA. Gentle Port, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The successes of numerous movements throughout Africa in gaining independence has led some in the British holdings in Central Africa to believe that they could accomplish the same. The Nkomi Independence League, though founded as a nonviolent effort to remove the British, was surpassed by a more active guerilla army led by a local warlord. The local warlord assembled a considerable force of both local tribesmen and foreign mercenaries in an attempt to defeat the British garrison. Despite being low in morale and supplies, the British managed to rally their own forces, with no heavy equipment or aircraft. Their ingenuity and perseverance ultimately managed to win the day, as they won multiple key victories, using only the meager resources at their disposal and supplies captured from rebel strongholds. The British have won a major victory here, and the cause of Nkomi’s independence has had a several setback, and it seems quite likely that even the nonviolent League will have difficulty mustering support for their cause in coming years. MADAGASCAR FACES NEW REBEL FORCES. Antananarivo, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Even as victory was had for the British on the Africa mainland, an old foe has once more begun surging to the forefront. As British naval and air assets are required elsewhere, restrictions around Madagascar have begun to lessen, and the locals have once more begun mustering munitions and support for revolt. The island’s natives have begun to assembled new arsenals and construct new arsenals according to local reports and information. While no attacks have yet been made on British soldiers or positions, it seems quite likely that the rebels are once more rebuilding their strength in the hopes of leading a successful uprising to liberate their people from imperial rule. The British garrison has immediately begun searching out these supposed arsenals, but have found little, wasting their resources on numerous wild goose chases, finding nothing for much expense. (-1 Stability)

MUTINY CRUSHED IN ANGOLA. Namibe, Angola. The military government of Angola has continued to face rising calls for the establishment of a new republican regime, but they have resisted this at every turn. The resistance has often included the use of the army to crush allegedly insurgent outposts, but more often than not, innocent villages and towns. This year, a number of army units grew tired of killing the people they thought they would protect from foreign powers. The result was a mutiny against the predominantly Spanish officers, as the natives fought back against this oppression. Loyal military forces were eventually called in, and the revolt was crushed, viciously. Any surviving soldiers were immediately executed for treason and their families imprisoned by guilt through association. While this has not exactly stopped the worsening instability, it has not done much to improve the situation either. (-1 Infantry Brigade)

VIOLENCE IN BOTSWANA. Maun, Botswana. There have been a growing number of reports from the young nation of Botswana about tribal violence and unrest. Various tribes and other groups have been more or less ignoring the rule of law, and taking advantage of the overall weakness of the central government to undertake old vendettas. The result has been informal warfare and bloodshed from all corners of the nation, as the regime has been powerless to stop the violence. Martial law has been declared in Maun, but the small zone of safety in the center of the city does not extend to the rest of the county. Foreign businesses have been encouraged to employ their own guards, as banditry and other such activity has been growing in size and scale throughout the countryside. Oluchi Ihejirika has vowed that the government will not be cowed by these criminals and has promised eventual retaliation for this behavior.

REPUBLICANS ORGANIZE IN GABON. Moanda, Gabon. Gabon is a young nation, still under the rule of EkeneMba, the man who organized the war of rebellion against Burgundy. Mba is a fairly popular individual among all classes of society, but some of those politically opposed to him have begun calling for the holding of free elections and the establishment of a republic. Mba has been reportedly outraged by these activists, attempting to undermine his leadership and position as father of his country. He has vowed to slay all those who would seek to destroy the security and wellbeing of the people of Gabon. The republicans have been declared outlaws and their movement has been made illegal by the central regime. Most of those opposed to Mba have since gone into hiding or fled to sympathetic governments in the Americas or in other parts of Africa.

MOBS RILED IN JEDDAH Jeddah, Hashemite Sultanate. Recent dissent has grown among the Hashemite Sultanate’s people as the mobs have begun to be agitated by British supervision and overwatch. The British retain almost exclusive control of the nation’s resources, and the sultan is widely considered to be a puppet of their agenda. Therefore it was easy for agitators to rile up extensive unrest this year, as marches turned violent towards the British government and other foreigners. The British embassy remained under heavy guard by military forces as mobs ransacked the marketplace, and its believe that nearly a dozen foreign visitors to the sultanate were badly wounded in the rioting. Extensive property damages were also reported through the markets and surrounding neighborhoods, caused by fires and other criminal activities during the unrest. For the time being, the situation seems to have calmed, but much resentment remains towards British governance.

MILITARY LEADERS ARRESTED IN KABINDE. Luanda, Kabinde. The young nation of Kabinde has faced much concern recently about the intentions of currently leading Commander Ludo Janz. His decision making came into question when he allowed the transit of Brazilian produced tanks to Chokweland to support the war against the Ovambo. A budding rivalry existed even during the fight for independence between a number of military leaders and Ludo Janz was the one lucky enough to seize power. Some of his rivals openly called for reform this year, and this proved to be a fatal misstep on their part. With his opposition in the open, Commander Janz ordered their immediate arrest, leading to a decapitation of the primary rivals to leadership of Kabinde. This success has secured him a stronger position of leadership, and has consolidated his reign over the small African nation. (+1 Stability)

UNREST GROWS IN MESOPOTAMIA. Baghdad, Iran. The Iranian government has determined that a disturbing new threat is on the rise in their newer western provinces. These territories, taken from the Arabian Empire in the coalition war against it, have been mostly quiet for nearly twenty years. Unfortunately an aggressive new movement, known as the Arabic Warriors for Allah, have begun staging significant attacks against the Iranians. These have ranged from an escalation of propaganda to outright raids against government arsenals and outposts throughout Baghdad and other areas. These operatives are mostly Sunni in origin, but retain a strong Arabic fervor, hoping to oust the rule of the Persian invader in the hopes of establishing their own nation once more. The attacks have been surprisingly successful in securing new arms and munitions for these rebels, and they appear to be a rising new threat against the Persian regime. (-1 Stability)

DISSENT FESTERS IN TADJOURA. Tadjoura, Tadjoura. The monarch of Tadjoura has come under growing pressure this year from various sectors of his court, calling for the withdrawal of Roman and Russian military forces still remaining in the nation. The presence of these troops, while appreciated in the time of war, has caused some disturbance among those immigrants less than happy to have their old nation’s army still in their lives. Opponents of this pressure have claimed that the military presence is required for the ongoing safety and security of Tadjoura. They claim that nations such as Sudan, Abyssinia, and Adjuuramark are only waiting for their chance to strike once more. Regardless, the pressure has mounted, claiming that the logistical strain is hampering economic growth and proving detrimental to the cause of fostering further immigration from Russia and the Roman Empire.

KONYA CALLS FOR TURKS TO RETURN HOME. Konya, Turkey. The new government in Turkey has issued a statement to the global Turkish people, calling for them to come to the free Turkish state and look to build a nation for themselves. This has mostly included those Turkish residents of the Roman Empire and the few which still remain in the borders of Kurdistan. The message has gone out throughout the Roman Empire and Russia, which have done their best to encourage the effort, hopefully dealing with a troublesome minority. The Turks have so far only reported minimal success for the program, which has been attributed to a lack of interest of others from leaving their adopted lands and employment. This has been particularly noticeable among the Turks of the Roman Empire, who have often felt that rather than leaving the Roman Empire, the Roman Empire should leave them and go west. A trickle of people have come back, and so far, not many have immediately found employment, and have been holding out for improvement eventually, despite the weak global economy.

PAPACY COMPLETES HOLY LAND INFRASTRUCTURE. Jerusalem, Papal States. The recent uprising in the Papal Holy Land caused oddly enough, little disruption to ongoing projects to revitalize the region's infrastructure. Both sides in the rebellion kept the installations constructed in relatively good condition for use in the war effort. The brief occupation of the region by the Italians also actually aided reconstruction efforts, as the Italians rebuilt what damage there was in order to move their military equipment. This year, the Papacy announced the end of the infrastructure project, with substantial financial aid from an unlikely pair of backers. Both Germany and Russia provided funds to help complete this project, calling the area a vital place of religious importance, providing full support for the Pope's efforts to build it up. The completion of the program has been a major secular victory for the Papacy, and has been graciously accepted by most of the area's residents.

LIBYAN GOVERNMENT URGES WOMEN TO COME OUT OF THE KITCHEN. Tripoli, Libya. In a surprising move for the Islamic government in Libya, the local authorities have begun a new campaign to encourage the entry of more women into the workforce. Portrayed as a cause of necessity it has been stated that in order to compete in the modern Mediterranean economy, the Libyan people need to all pull together for greater success. The government has begun to pass laws to help encourage employers to hire women, and to attract them into traditionally male places of employment. They have begun to be welcomed into new industry and agricultural construction, though they have remained segregated from the larger male workforce to prevent incidents in certain locations. Overall, the program is well under way, though some more traditional clerics have opposed the measure on religious grounds.

CHAD AND SPAIN SIGN TREATY. Abeche, Chad. After several years of brutal rebellion and war, the nations of Chad and Spain have at last come to terms, ending the conflict. Spain has recognized the independence of Chad at the borders they've held at the height of the rebellion, refusing to allow claims or control any further south. Both sides have withdrawn to the borders laid out by the treaty and have made sure of the adherence of both parties to the agreement. The new government of Chad has also pledged to return any physical property to the Spanish, allowing them a bit of reprieve from angry businessmen back home. The leader of Chad has proclaimed this to be a great victory, another nail in the coffin of European imperialism in Africa. They have stated that this new treaty will secure the establishment and peace of the new borders of the interior of Africa, along with the successful rebellion in Benin to the west.

MALI CONTINUES REBELLION AGAINST SCANDINAVIANS. Bamako, Mali. As other regions begin to make peace in Africa, the western part of the continent continues to be torn in strife as the rebellious forces in Mali attempted a push against the League of the Three Emperors. Offensive operations by the League promptly failed, as they would be overwhelmed by superior numbers when attempting advances. Supply shortages have continued to a great degree, as attempts to airlift in supplies have proven incapable of bringing in all the goods that are required for waging the war. The best that could be said is that the League has been able to hold their own lines against rebel attacks, creating a status of stalemate between the two sides. It seems likely this stalemate would continue, as both struggle to gain a strategic advantage over the others, and the rebels continue to fight to the last.

News from the Far East

ELECTIONS IN GUANGXI. Xinjing, Guangxi. When it came to political topics this year in Guangxi, only one came to mind when it came time for the nation’s constitutionally mandated elections: The Fireworks War. The raging war with the Unified Realm of China has been at the front of newspapers and is common conversation in every household. The loss of substantial territories last year to invading Chinese forces has led to much concern and disruption in the process of elections. Matters were complicated further with the revealing of the Unified Realm’s relative innocence in the Fireworks Massacre which led to the outbreak of the war. As the fighting remained deadlocked, the liberal Datongdang was crucified in the press, for their failure to achieve even some sort of façade of victory. This has allowed the conservative Fùxīngdǎng to claim the majority and promise a new approach to the war against revolutionaries and the Red Army. They have appointed Nathaniel Xilai as the country’s new prime minister, having previously been an experience member of Guangxi’s military forces and an ideal leader for this time of war.

REVOLT IN CEYLON. Colombo, Netherlands. German and Dutch colonial authorities on the island of Ceylon were forced to cooperate this year as the local population became unruly and a local minority force began an open revolt against the regime. Guerilla soldiers began striking at colonial outposts in Colombo and throughout the rest of the island, seeking to destroy and raid imperial military installations and armories. The strikes have been mostly successful, more against the stretched German soldiers than they have been against the Dutch in the urban centers. The unrest has grown extensively, especially as fighting in the civil war becomes more intense upon the mainland. The German government has been forced to mostly sit upon the defensive, lacking the resources to take the fight to hidden rebel encampments throughout the island. It seems likely as though the rebels hope to establish an independent state, ousting both of the European nations which possess holdings upon the island. (-1 Infantry Brigade for Germany)

RALLIES CALL FOR MORE GERMAN SOLDIERS IN INDIA. Gujarat, Germany. The outbreak of civil war in India and the flagrant invasion of Kalingahas caused a surge of concern in the German holdings in India. Many are concerned that one or more factions in the current fighting may take an opportunity to invade and subjugate the holdings of Germany in India. Therefore, a number of major local merchants, businessmen, and nobles, have called upon Germany to provide a substantially larger garrison to the region to protect it from invasion. The German government has waffled upon the decision, as the resources at home have been dedicated towards the possibility of a Russian invasion, and most have been concerned about the wisdom of sending a large force to protect tenuous holdings in India. Still, the locals have argued that as subjects of the German Empire, they are just as entitled to protection as the people of European Germany.

CHAOS ERUPTS IN INDIA AS CIVIL WAR BEGINS. Bombay, India. After years of unrest and disturbance it seems that the regionalist/federalist situation in India has at last come to a head. Accusations have flown about regarding the culpability of the current Prime Minister, JeetendraNarang in the recent massacre in Bombay. On top of this, efforts to further consolidate the nation and establish a more centralized regime have gone to the point where they could no longer be accepted. The final straw was the surprise invasion attempt upon Kalinga, which proved to be a disaster, as the Indian air force was annihilated and the forces sent in were quickly stalled by defensive actions. From here, the true chaos erupted. The strongest of the nation’s principalities soon recalled the forces recruited from their lands, spurring chaos in the lines against Kalinga, and they mobilized their own defense forces and regiments. The army was quickly split among regional lines, and the central government did what they could to recover their forces as the Kalingese army counterattacked. The regionalists have united their own forces and have begun mobilizing to focus on the overthrow of the government in Bombay and the establishment of a freer India. Kalinga has declared their support for the cause, and offered their full military force and economic base to wage war upon the failing regime. Extensive bloodshed has occurred, and it seems likely that a prolonged war is on the horizon, as the central government hopes to restore order and greater unity than before.

KOREAN RED ARMY SCORES MAJOR VICTORIES. Pusan, Japan. As the war rages between Japan and the Red Army in China, the Korean Red Army has strove to match the accomplishments of their ideological brethren to the south. They have mustered considerable influence of their own, but have frequently lacked the arms and weapons they’ve needed to fight an open revolt. This year, the Red Army has changed all that, with the gracious courtesy of the Japanese. The war in China has required a large amount of arms to be shipped into the mainland through Korea, and the Koreans have been able to help themselves to several raided merchant freighters. Thanks to the daring assault, the Koreans not only overran a Japanese shipyard, but managed to delay word of the victory from reaching the Japanese long enough to recover a massive amount of armaments and supplies. Not only has this weakened the Japanese war effort in China, but it has created a heavily armed and dangerous new opponent in the holdings in Korea. Some fear that this grand victory could be a sign of an imminent fresh rebellion against Japanese rule. (-1 Stability in Korea)

THE RED ARMY REBELLION. Harbin, Japan. As fighting somewhat dims once more between Guangxi and China, the real fighting in mainland Asia has been further to the east. The Japanese, with major air support from Germany, has engaged in massive land operations against the Red Army, as millions clash along the front lines. The year opened with German and Japanese beginning a massive air bombardment of major Chinese cities and production facilities. This has done much to cause extensive damage to Chinese infrastructure and logistics, forcing them to be more reliant on the facilities that remain out of range of enemy bombers in the west. Numerous of these attacks have been with chemical weapons, particularly against civilian centers, and casualties within the cities have continued to mount. With no air force of their own, the Chinese have made other arrangements to relieve this pressure. This came in the form of wildly successful rear attacks against German and Japanese airfields. Local cadres managed to overwhelm the very few guards provided to the Germans in Guangxi, and destroy large numbers of aircraft before fresh reinforcements secured the airfields. Similar attacks took place throughout Manchuria, as the Red Army has continued intensive activities, but with less triumphant success than they had against the Germans. The Chinese launched the first blow with an offensive, but fresh Japanese troops stopped the attack cold, even pushing back against the Red Army. A major offensive was planned to follow the Red Army’s attack, hoping to recapture Peking and break the stalemate. Though the Red Army had lost the first round, they managed to redeem themselves by stopping the Japanese counteroffensive with heavy casualties on both sides. The Japanese lost the battle, despite actually possessing larger numbers, mostly due to fuel and supply shortages caused by unrest in Manchuria and Korea. Furthermore, the Red Army’s deployment of the Equality-type tank has proven to be an unpleasant surprise, far outmatching the Type-92 in the field and blocking attempts at armored assaults, being essentially invulnerable to the Type-92’s guns. The Red Army, ironically due to the constant bombing of their own sources, still maintained better supply lines than the Japanese, who by winter, were running short on almost everything, forcing them to stop their attempts to break the Red Army’s front.

THE FIREWORKS WAR. Chengdu, China. As questions begin to emerge about the legitimacy of the Fireworks War, the fighting continues with a new fervor. Chinese troops have begun to dig in and move to the defensive, while the Russian Empire has proclaimed a no-fly zone over their territory. Despite attempts to avoid conflict, the Russian pilots have frequently engaged with British and Guangxi pilots throughout the region. Thanks to the entry of Chinese pilots, fresh from training in Russia, the Chinese have begun to acquire air superiority over portions of the theater. Older British craft have been downed by the dozen, easily made prey by Russian jets and Chinese aircraft, and with climbing losses in bombers, they were forced to end attempts to provide air support to the year’s main offensive. British and Guangxi forces launched a major push, in the hopes of driving back the Chinese from the territory they occupied after last year’s fighting. The offensive started fairly successfully, and the armies of Guangxi and Britain came close to reaching their objectives. Unpleasantly, however, the deployment of new aircraft and the mighty T-28 tank has been a major thorn in the side of the advance and casualties have been far heavier than those that have been inflicted. By the end of the year, the fighting slowed to a stalemate once more, as both sides have dug in throughout the winter.

BRITISH ESTABLISH INSURANCE FUND. London, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Seeking to stem the side of bank closures and runs, the British government has sought to establish a method of security to bring back consumer confidence. They have offered up the optional bank depository insurance, financed by the government as a choice for banking institutions to make. This choice allows the government to insure twenty percent of banks' standing funds and deposits, allowing for quick response in the case of a shortage of on-hand cash. The bill has passed through the new Labour Party government, but critics claim that this is the first step towards nationalization of the banking industry, which is highly concerning to richer investors. Supporters of the bill have dismissed these claims, stating that it is nothing more than reckless alarmism on behalf of the routed Union Jacks.

DANES LAUNCH FINANCIAL BAILOUT. Copenhagen, Denmark. One of the driving forces behind the change in regime in Denmark this year has been the handling of the worsening global economic situation. The old government passed as its last act a series of bills which offered substantial sums of money to banks and other financial institutions under threat of closing. These businesses welcomed the money, and some put it to good use. Unfortunately, the incidents that gained substantially more press were those in which the money was taken, and the banks shut down anyways. It was accused that the conservative government simply offered money to its richer Russian and big business backers. The resulting outrage provided significant support to the challenging liberal parties and this program will likely go down in history as a failure, despite some modest, short-term successes in boosting a sparse few banks from failure. 1936 OLYMPIC CITY CHOSEN. Geneva, Switzerland. Unlike previous Olympic Games Committee meetings this year’s debate over the host city for the 1936 Olympics have proven to be fairly subdued. Three highly acceptable options were granted, but in the end, an overwhelming majority emerged in favor of one particular city. The Aztec city of Tenochtitlan is one steeped in history and tradition from a variety of cultures, and since the independence of Aztlan from the United States of America, has grown into a sizeable economic center. The Committee has also acknowledged the presence of ample facilities and room for expansion, allowing for the development of the needed space for the Games. The people of Aztlan and Tenochtitlan have been congratulated on their selection, and it is hoped that the 1936 Games will be memorable ones. As in the past, the actual votes of those present in the committee have been provided in their raw numbers below:

OCCITANIA FUNDS NEW LEAGUES. Toulouse, Occitania. While many sports aficionados globally are often divided between the rising sport of varukorgbollor the more traditional game of balompie, the government of Occitania has effectively declared, “Why can’t we have both?” Rather than favoring one game or another, the Occitanians have provided new funds to establishing formal national leagues for both games. Though varukorgboll has never really taken hold in Occitania until recently, the move has offered substantial support for the game, legitimizing it to the same level as balompie. Balompie has of course received the greatest benefit from government support, as the games have become more regulated, and the players more skilled. With the apparent darkening of the political situation, it seems to do the people of Occitiana good to see a thrilling sporting event.

BALOMPIE WORLD CUP RESUMES. Madrid, Spain. The sport of balompie suffered greatly in the wake of the Rhine-Rhone War, and never really recovered outside of the Olympic Games, where it has remained one of the most anticipated events. Through the support of the Spanish government and monarchy, the Balompie World Cup has been renewed, as the home of the game has been the scene of the final matches for the contest. In one of the most heated games in the sport’s history, the teams from Spain and Hispaniola played for the cup, and played hard. The Spanish unfortunately fell short, losing on their home soil, as the Hispaniolans triumphed with a last minute goal. It is hoped by many fans of the sport that the resumption of the world cup will mean that there will be something to look forward to in the years between the epic national matches of the Olympics. The next games are planned to be held in 1936, and have been confirmed to take place again in Spain, in the city of Seville.

The Contemporary Khan
The United Kingdom has begun an international propaganda campaign across Europe and the Western Hemisphere warning of Russian expansionism and tyranny. The highlight of the propaganda campaign is a film called The Contemporary Khan, the title linking the Russian Empire with the Mongol Empire and arguing that the Russian Empire is the modern successor of the Mongols. The film claims that the Russian Emperor desires to control and conquer the world and, if not controlling it himself, will force it through military might to reverse the progress of the enlightenment and revert to the world of the Dark Ages. The world will be forced to adopt the Russian political, economic, and religious model. Democracy will be destroyed and replaced with Russian absolute monarchism or puppet tyrants, and the ways of Eastern Europe (such as Romania) will be how the world as a whole will be run. Capitalism will be replaced with feudalism and economic growth and progress will be a thing of the past, and the world will be forced into serfdom/slavery and generational poverty. Orthodoxy will be the world religion, and Catholics and Protestants alike will be persecuted and eventually forced to convert to a "strange Eastern religion." The film notes that Polish Catholics have suffered under Orthodox rule, and also that nearly all of Russia's current borders with other nations are through another nation that Russia has annexed, including Poland, Georgia, Azerbaijan, the Kazakhs, and others. The film argues that Russia is preparing to strike again and annex more of the world, bringing the World Island under its rule and dictating global politics from Moscow, in the center of the Heartland. The film points to the Russian buildup and the Russian no-fly zone over China as evidence that Russia desires to expand its borders once again. The film has been translated into German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Italian, Dutch, Persian, Japanese, Breton, and other languages, and will be distributed to theatres all across the globe.
It is short enough to be shown prior to a main attraction and has been put in front of any film in British studios and other sympathetic nations.

The General
Written and originally performed by singer and guitarist Rick Carson - a veteran of the War of the Colorado - The General has, despite facing accusations of being unpatriotic or subversive in nature by conservative media and politicians, proven widely popular in the nation of Florida this year both via radio broadcast and in live performance. Viewed by some as the Floridian response to Deadman's Gun, the song emphasizes the peculiar dissonance experienced by many Floridians as the war dragged on. Fervent national pride unabated regardless of the increasingly apparent futility and waste of the conflict, punctuated by the war's abrupt end and the subsequent return to a situation little different from the status quo ante bellum. The song clearly adopts many musical elements popularized by the success of Deadman's Gun, notably its feature of and reliance on the acoustic guitar and narrative vocals. Some versions as performed by various artists have begun to incorporate drums and other percussion instruments.

Köroğlu
Köroğlu by Kel Hasan is a masterpiece of kanto, Turkish opera inspired by Italian cantare music. Unlike many works of that narrow genre, Köroğlu stands out as an epic masterwork that combines elements of classic operas and ethnic musical styles. Köroğlu is a Turkish national hero, whose name is literally translated as “the son of a blind man.” Avenging his father’s blinding and death to an ill-tempered bey, this bandit and ozan becomes a defender of the poor and fighter against injustice. In the end, however, Köroğlu realizes he can’t save the chivalric code of honor and stop the change of his country, so he dismisses his band of merry men and fades into obscurity, leaving these words behind: Valor has been lost whence guns were invented / The curved blade in its holster shall rust. In Turkey the opera has achieved an immense success, having become an anthem to nostalgic neo-romantism of newly re-emerging nationalist movement. In liberal circles, at the same time, it is viewed as a swan song of traditionalism, given the pessimistic end of the backward hero who is infinitely stuck in the past.

REFORM IN THE ARGENTINE FILM INDUSTRY. Rosario, Argentina. Rosario is often known as two conflicting images: the center of modern culture and cinema and the hive of scum and villainy that plagues the world with coarse footage and features. This year, leading figures in the Rosario film establishment, have begun establishing their own internal guidelines and regulating themselves, rather than losing out on international markets. They have established a two tier rating system, marking some films as for a General all-audience as a G film, and making more mature pictures with a Restricted or R rating. The new regulations within the industry have sought to make films more accessible to the greater global audience, and have since started turning their efforts towards making more Church friendly films, in greater size and scale than ever seen before. The Catholic Church has approved of this development, as the Argentine movie making community attempts to appeal to the largest markets possible in their products.

@Nailix and Quisani: Ya’lls trade negotiations must have been quite confusing. You both seem to have different ideas of what the trade actually consisted of. Therefore, no trade was done this year.

@Nailix: Sonar can no longer be added to old designs, but will be present on all new ones.

@TerrisH: You cannot reduce your manpower pool. That is set, and will not change by player dictation. If you don’t want to use more than 50, don’t recruit more than 50. Overall, even economically, Switzerland is one of the nicer places to live globally, infrastructure is very good and developed, and for the life of me, I can’t really think of any more long-term domestic projects that you could conduct at this stage. Maybe there’s some hydroelectricity you could get going or something?

@Azale: typically bombing requires planes that can actually drop bombs. Just an Fyi there.

@ork57: Your orders look pretty good, personally I’d recommend asking other players what sort of formats they use to send them in. I’d provide them myself, but I suspect some people may object if I start sharing their orders with everyone.

The Farow has been dropped from Normandy due to inactivity.

Per his request, momo1010 has been dropped from Kongo.

@Christos200: I want to make things perfectly clear to you right here. Everything that happened to you this year was solely because of the choices and decisions you’ve made. Nothing was RNG created or bad luck. You, and you alone, are responsible for miserable failure. Do not try to shift responsibility psychologically or vocally. The only reason that Burgundy is in such a sorry state is because of you. This is not meant as an insult, but a simple statement of fact, and one I am willing to break down and explain, so that you may see your errors and (hopefully) improve in the future. Let’s start with Africa. Your colony in Africa had a population of over 40,000,000 black people. You ordered their destruction through a ripoff process of the Holocaust. To undertake such an effort, you had to rely upon a mere 36,000 soldiers. Just to make it clear: 40,000,000 > 36,000. Now, as illustrated in past updates, the population here was already getting ready to rebel against you and had arms and munitions. Therefore your sorry-ass soldiers didn’t stand a chance once things started getting real. Even if the blacks had tamely submitted (which is a dumbass notion to start with) there’s no way in hell you could have gotten 40,000,000+ people into “several” camps, especially when you had just started a major war in Europe. Speaking of which, did you really think any people would actually buy the faked reason for war this year after you just tried the same thing last year? Similarly, you DO NOT have total control of the media. First of all, there’s radio stations in all of the countries around you, which will report the truth. Second of all, you’ve only been in power with the current regime for two years. Posting pictures of Hitler and making bizarre “speeches” does not make a fascist government. It took the Nazi regime OTL a bit longer than two years to actually solidify control to the point where they were secure in power. Speaking of Nazis, just claiming that you’re doing a blitzkrieg, also does not make a blitzkrieg.A blitzkrieg is a highly coordinated, high speed, operation featuring a conjunction of specialized mechanized military units working together. In all fairness, you do seem to have a decent grasp of what a blitzkrieg is, just not the actual knowledge of what is specifically needed to enact it. Your doctrine is woefully obsolete, and most of your equipment and soldiers don’t have radios. You need radios to coordinate (hence, the Coordination stat in new doctrines) a rapid offensive. You also probably should have considered that perhaps an aggressive invasion might be anticipated and opposed by your other neighbors. Overall, both of your key decisions this update were foolhardy and self-destructive. There was no way, no circumstance, in the universe that these choices could have even come close to ending well for you. The summary is that YOU made these choices, and the failure that is now Burgundy is solely your responsibility. You’re not the first person to do things like this, in fact, there’s several people in this NES who’ve made worse decisions in the past. Learn, and get better.

Rather than deal with the full presentation of rebel factions stats as I described earlier, I'm instead going to just insert the named organizations and their ideologies. While this will not give a rating at how powerful they are, it should be noted that the only organizations that will make it into your stats are the ones which have national recognition and presence. Similarly, this will only count for nations within the mainland of your empire, not extended island possessions. The rules and sample stats on the first page have been adapted appropriately to include this change. There will be more added as I take a look at things later on, what's been put on so far is it. I reserve the right to change my mind at later date before the next update.

Kudos to TheMeanestGuest for picking one of the most appropriate musical selections so far. Sir, I salute you.

From Occitania

CC Dauphine, Orleans, Normandy, Poitou, WORLD

The French people are engaged in what can only be described as a catastrophe. Brother fights brother in this Fraternal War, initiated by the deluded self-aggrandizing barbarians who defame the title of "government" by their atrocities - the Paris regime. And yet worse, these undeserving monsters were elected by the people of Burgundy, whom are now hostage to the regime's war of conquest.

There is no room for a moral defence of Burgundy's crimes. The Burgundian state fabricated a justification for the invasion of its peaceful neighbour, went about a war of conquest involving the slaughter of fellow Frenchmen, and this year as well participated in the most heinous atrocity in Africa imaginable. This regime's actions demand its brutal and swift destruction.

Occitania as leader of the coalition in this Fraternal War, declares openly our demand of nothing less than the unconditional surrender of the Burgundian regime. The wicked minds behind this dire war must be brought to justice - there can be no negotiation, no mediation, only the swift liberation of every centimetre of Burgundian soil from the enemies of freedom, peace and the enemies of the French nation itself.

Occitania calls on our allies, Orleans, Normandy and Poitou, to fight the face of dictatorship in France, and join the coalition forces immediately. This war must be settled by brothers, and so we request foreign nations do not involve themselves unless explicitly requested to do so by the coalition.

We neither expect to nor wish to speak with Burgundian diplomats, until they are prepared to unconditionally surrender to the coalition.

God help us all.

No one has a problem with Japan's use of chemical weapons against Chinese civilian centers? Fine.

Thanks for the help. The utter uselessness of your petty army helped us train our superb tank crews. Also, thanks for arming our Korean brethren. I'm sure we'll both thank you pretty soon.

By liberating every single non-Japanese slave under your yoke. Or you could just surrender now. If so, we'll be happy to refrain from stomping you into the ground.

Also, stop bombing us. Thanks for listening. Bye.

Rise with us. The Japanese are spent. The Germans are busy elsewhere. The Guangxiren are just plain dumb. You have nothing to lose but your chains, and everything else to gain. So rise with us. It will be glorious. And fun. After all, who doesn't enjoy slaughtering people who have oppressed you for ages?

OOC: I find it incredibly amusing that the British propaganda film has been translated into Persian. EQ, IIRC, specifically stated the lack of theatres in Persia/Iran/whatever the hell it is. So it'd be entirely useless to have a film translated into a language that no one would be able to watch it in.

To nations seeking cheaper alternative Armored Vehicles for their armed forces, the Republic of Egypt offers the Equality-type Medium Tank for the low, low price of 23 ep.

@ork57: Your orders look pretty good, personally I’d recommend asking other players what sort of formats they use to send them in. I’d provide them myself, but I suspect some people may object if I start sharing their orders with everyone.

Hmm, noted on the manpower pool. half the reason I tried was because even recruiting Millita, it's going to take Deaceds worth of EP to even make a dent in it. dose give me an Idea though for a minor project. which is good.
Your suggestion on the hydroelectricity dose give me a few Ideas.. and I guess I can start up plan B also. might be interesting to see if I can pull it off. Orders might be in tonight.

Oh, and feel free to show last turns order's as an example, if you feel they are good enough to be an example. Got nothing to hide.
