Hard to know who has the clear advantage. French on the attack but chariots are unlikely to make it towards the Persians capital. Still holding out for some red coats from the English. Looks like Ottoman or HRE could become strong. See how the Greeks do too. Game is finely balanced for now.
I started this game as well and in my game Pacal was in a different religion from all the others. He is pretty much out of the game after wars with France and the HRE.
Diplomacy is certainly not one of the AI's strong points.
I was hoping that Victoria would start a war with Pericles after being boxed in but that doesn't seem likely anymore.
Darius bites back and re-captures his two cities with a crushing tech advantage.
Spoiler:
Darius wasn't lazy. He's been fighting Napoleon for around 40 turns, but that doesn't stop him from winning Liberalism.
Spoiler:
Shortly before 800AD, "WW1" happens.
Charlemagne DoWs Pericles.
Charlemagne bribes Suleiman vs Pericles.
Pericles bribes Victoria vs Suleiman.
Darius and Napoleon are still going at each other...
Spoiler:
Poor Pericles is facing off against the two toughest opponents on the map...
Spoiler:
While Victoria is doing her share:
Spoiler:
Hummm... troops? Where are troops? Oh... 0.5 power ratio to Suleiman... why even bother accepting the bribe
Needless to say, the Greeks suffered 300:1 casualties heh. Close enough.
Spoiler:
Charley and Sulei are left with massive troop counts such as this:
Spoiler:
And how about the 1000AD situation?
Pacal - nothing spectacular. He's stayed out of all wars but his tech rate or wonder whoring are not getting the job done.
Spoiler:
Charlemagne - now with Grenadiers and a bucketload of other troops. A nice tech rate and things are looking up... only, Peace was signed with Pericles (???).
Spoiler:
Pericles - ugh, this was a rough set. There are tons of units at his doorstep despite facing only Suleiman now. On the plus side, wonderwhoring was great and tech rate is still top notch.
Spoiler:
Victoria - sighhhh.... what is she doing? Tech lead but not doing anything with it... troops? Don't need those. 2~3 Redcoats should be enough, right?
Spoiler:
Darius - surprising performance from Darius, holding off Napoleon and still winning Liberalism. Close to the tech lead but with a lot more production available to him. A Friendly Charlemagne as neighbour is very good for diplomacy!
Spoiler:
Napoleon - tech hole and no exit in sight. A (relatively) bad start and poorly played gets the worst showing from an AI so far.
Spoiler:
Suleiman - is it the Ottomans? Or is it the leaders? Both have done exceptionally well so far. A lot of cities, good warring and nice tech rates. If he can get Pericles's capitulation and start moving on to other AIs, domination is possible...
Spoiler:
Various demographics.
Spoiler:
Land overview...
Spoiler:
An interesting set with both bad and poor performances. Who are your top three AIs so far?
(12-4-1)/2 = 3.5 >= 3 ... Charlemagne could be Pleased towards Suleiman even with a vassal. But in any case, most of his power is stuck in Mayapan so he'd probably be fighting the Greeks while losing cities at home.
with top 3 being friends with each other, i see a space or culture victory.
Who is in position for culture? probably pericles. how is pacal on that point?
If that goes to space i see suly wins after capping pericles and victoria.
If peri capitulate now he still have a shot for culture. else he will be brained dead

If I counted right the Suleiman clobbering of Pericles was 23-9 casualties. Not exactly 300:1 but he still got clobbered pretty good of course. Was surprised so many siege was lost. He barely lost a single normal attacker, though.
Libbing Astronomy on such a map... so sad
Looks like the Buddhists will win one way or another. Will be interesting to see if Suleiman and Charly will go head to head at some point, if one manages to vassal a pile of others, or if perhaps one of them go to space at some point - which could perhaps lead to Pericles snatching Culture, if he survives that long with enough cities. Right now my money would probably be on Suleiman, but it's still fairly undecided I'd say.
That land overview shows the AI's hard-on for espionage though. So many security bureaus and intelligence agencies going up.
Very interesting game, and I enjoy your thorough writeups
My (noob)rating after the first turnset:
1. Perry (blinks @ avatar)
2. Darry (I like his corner start)
3. Charly (good REX)
4. Sully (also in a nice corner)
5. Packy (could have been good, but 1 worker is a hole in the head)
6. Vicky (happy on her "island")
7. Nappy (lost and lost in the forest)
Action! I love it, but why oh why did Charly make peace with Perry
Lol, Vicky attacking Sully with 1(one) knight
As my noob eyes see it now it's:
1. Sully for Domination
2. Perry for Culture, maybe as a vassal
3. Darry for Space (or who will grab Space if it comes to that?).
Charly being the dark horse here, but will he play on his oportunities. Maybe UN win?
Yeah Vicky looks in trouble although she is building units now. Trouble is Sulie and HRE have huge stacks. Nice to see some Redcoats. Would be nice to see a winner that is not Ottaman based.
Pacal is plotting and his worst enemy is Charles. If he declares on Charles, good luck.
I think Sulieman is the front runner, but he is facing a two front war. If Pacal declares on Charles and gets whipped, and Suli hasn't vasseled Pericles, Charles could take over the game.
Edit: Actually Suli and Vicky made peace. But everyone except Vicky and Charles is either at war or plotting. Should get very interesting.
Last week I was busy and I got sick the past few days. Feeling better now so here's part 1 of the ending of this game...
Leading up to 1600AD...
As we left off, we had war on Pericles. He's vastly outnumbered so it's not surprising he keeps losing cities.
Spoiler:
Back on the French-Persian front, Darius is finally teaching Napoleon a lesson.
Spoiler:
However that city would later culture flip to Pacal hahaha!
Pericles is surprisingly tough this game. Survives heavy assault from Charlemagne AND Suleiman... doesn't capitulate and finds time to build Wonders such as SoL.
Spoiler:
As some had noticed, Charlemagne had turned his attention towards Pacal. Note the lack of siege units from Charlemagne.
Spoiler:
The keen of eye may also have noticed that Charlemagne bribed Suleiman into war (he'd only just stopped fighting Pericles). His troops are still healing near Greece but he still manages to conjure up a few other stacks.
Spoiler:
Over on Victoria's side of the land... a smart move at last. It's only 500 years too late but... better Oxford in a good city than never.
Spoiler:
Back on the French-Persian side of the war... (Keep in mind this was has NEVER stopped so far). More brownie points for Darius.
Spoiler:
Darius is really crushing Napoleon now! Airships vs. Longbows! How can he lose?
Spoiler:
Fast forward a few turns, Charlemagne finally lowers the city defenses enough to attack. Attack!
Spoiler:
The city is sniped by Suleiman! He already has this many troops here:
[/IMG]
And they're all NEW... the ones from Greece are not here yet!
A few turns later, peace is signed and Pacal is a happy vassal.
Spoiler:
Staggering stack of Suleiman. This gives him this demo screen:
So... what about the French-Persian war, uh?
Spoiler:
What....
What?
What !! is happening !!
Darius lost Chartres to the French. He's got freaking Infantry against Muskets and he can't make progress? Ugh. I give up.
Some turns later...
Somehow, Pacal thought this could be a sound idea.
Spoiler:
He didn't have long to be reminded.
Spoiler:
But Charlemagne doesn't take capitulation... smart move really when you have a monster next to you.
Still.... that's a lot of HRE troops stuck in 3 cities.
Queue in former master. You can imagine the result.
Spoiler:
Now, this is just too funny. Or miserable, I don't know anymore.
Spoiler:
Darius can't make progress against this?
And that's not the worst... Napoleon is still making Horse Archers in 1560 AD ! On DEITY !!! (his Iron was culturally stolen by Pacal - also enabling Chariots to be built but I haven't seen any of those at least.)
Various demographics.
Spoiler:
No Land overview... not useful at this point.
Suleiman has built U.N. to prevent a backdoor win from a vassal.
Suleiman has denied most culture wonders to deny cultural victories.
Some stupid AI has built Manhattan Project without much thought about his southern neighbours.
Nobody really likes nobody.
Darius and Napoleon are pathetic - I don't know which more: Darius for not crushing Napoleon or Napoleon for being so stubborn. Over 100 turns of war for nothing.
I guess I have to say Darius gets the pointy hat award so far. He has about 4x times more power and production than Napoleon yet he's barely holding on to his starting cities.
peri could technically still win a culture victory (figures are not availables, so it is hard to guess) but he is worst enemy from sully and sully is at his doors...
As my noob eyes see it now it's:
1. Sully for Domination
2. Perry for Culture, maybe as a vassal
3. Darry for Space (or who will grab Space if it comes to that?).
Charly being the dark horse here, but will he play on his oportunities. Maybe UN win?
There is not much to add but the astonishment at some of the AIs plays
Worst moves so far: (in no particular order)
Vicky not REXing. Did she think she was on an Island?
Nappys play in general. Especially early city placement.
Packy for not builing enough workers.
Darry not being able to focus his military efforts.
Charly for signing peace with Perry whilst winning.
Packy choosing to break vassalage from Sully
