Become a ModCast Regular Co-Host

Can we send our PM to you too?

Why not, I'll throw my hat in the ring (assuming time zones work out okay)

- Oh god, I think it's just gone three years since I released The Golden Pavilion as my first wonder. Wow. Launched into civs a year or so back, before that it was mainly wonders

- I've played mods since the game came out, once they started coming online. I use all sorts, civs, wonders, I used Building Made Fun for a while and occasionally Total Conversion (PCTP and NiGHTS) a couple years back. Now it's mainly civs, wonders, religions and UI / Building stuff

- I co-hosted Beyond the Monument one time, does that count?

- My glorious kiwi accent My professionalism, as well as my position within the modding community and experience of working on a number of mods with several members of it help me gain a wide understanding of what's happening in the modding community, including several projects at the forefront of the realm of possibility (city styles with Leugi and so on).

I don't think I will have time to be a regular co-host, but I would love to guest on one or two episodes. :D I'm in the GMT timezone and I work 9-6-ish on weekdays.

- I joined CivFanatics in April 2011 (3 years ago), at which time I was basically starting up CivV modding. The amount of modding work I've done since then has fluctuated a lot (I'm fairly sure I disappeared for a year in there somewhere)

- I don't actually play with mods that often - mostly because they disable achievements. :( I do try to keep up with a lot of projects here on the forums though, and offer some help where I can.

- I haven't been on any podcasts before (I'm really selling myself here, right?) and I do need to get a headset! I've been meaning to do that for LANs anyway.

- I did some work on some modding related tools that I think helped the community (Tech Tree Editor maintaining and the original NexusBuddy decompile, which Deliverator has been using his awesome 3D artwork knowledge on to build a much more feature-complete tool). I think I do some fairly complex work with the mods I've released/am working on and I'm happy to talk at length about the challenges involved there and how I've seen the community change over the last 3 years. (A lot more has become possible! And I still think we have more left to unlock!)

I wouldn't rule it out, but I don't have a microphone either, and my accent is far from understandable. If nobody else wants to, I would gladly step in, but I think I'm content being a guest co-host at some point, if you so wish. The other advantage this gives me is time to release a mod or two. :p
Consider yourself a guest co-host potential then. :)

Wow, thank you! I haven't expected such outcome :) I feel honoured. I hope I will be of use in the podcast. Now I only need to buy a good headset and get used to it. :)
:)

I sent you a PM yesterday with some more particulars.

I guess I'll give the courtesy of an explanation. In PM, though.
I appreciate that and have received it -- thanks. I will respond in the coming days.

I don't think I will have time to be a regular co-host, but I would love to guest on one or two episodes. :D I'm in the GMT timezone and I work 9-6-ish on weekdays.
Consider yourself a potential guest co-host too. :D

Welcome to the panel, Pouakai.

The new ModCast regular panel is now tentatively set -- I say tentatively as an important next step is coming to a mutually agreeable day and time to record episodes in balancing timezone and availability differences. Should this effort result in one or more vacancies again on the panel, I will follow-up to that effect in this thread.

Short of that or circumstances otherwise affecting the make-up of the regular panel, if anyone is interested in being a guest on the show and has not yet so indicated in this thread by all means note in reply.

I am getting my headset tomorrow so I will send a message on Skype after I test if everything works properly. Shall we agree on the date via PM, here or elsewhere? In any case, I am in GMT +1 timezone (in 5 days Europe is switching to daylight savings, so GMT +2). I'd like to avoid recording at night, though I usually stay up late anyway. I am accessible at any day at the moment and I can adapt to any hour if it's not between 3 and 8 am in my timezone. (roughly 9 pm - 2 am in Canada and 3 - 8 pm in Australia/New Zealand).

Sounds good.

(Yes, pun intended. :mischief:)

Shall we agree on the date via PM, here or elsewhere?
This is to be decided amongst you and your fellow regular co-hosts, along with one or two guests potentially, over a Skype conference group.

How long you have been modding Civilization V, as well as CivIV if/as applicable?

My first mod, the addition of Sweden and the Papal States, for Civilisation V was released in November 2010. I had modded before then for Civilization IV, but this was only in private.

Whether you play CivV mods as well and, if so, since when and of what variety

I play exclusively with mods; most of them are either components made by Whoward, or custom civs from a wide variety of authors - LastSword, Hiram, Patria Grande, More Civs, Colonist Legacies, Tomatekh and myself, but there also many others; of note Putmalk's CIV Diplomacy Mod and Barathor's More Luxuries. Most of the types of mods I look for are immersion mods; mods that suppress the competitive nature of the game that I feel wasn't so significant in Civ IV.

I have played occasionally without mods, but I don't believe there has been any extended period of note since the release of the game in which I haven't used mods.

An account of any previous podcasting experience, if any; and

Hahahahaha. No, none whatsoever.

Why you believe you would be well suited in the role.

As someone with no previous programming experience, and of poor mathematical skills to boot, I feel that I have come to harness a technical knowledge that is sufficient to know the limitations of the types of modding that I am involved in. Nothing as extensive as that of the DLL modders here, but still a valuable insight, and it has been a startling experience to come to learn so much from modding. In addition, I seem to be amongst the few modders that have been making custom civilisations regularly since the release of the game, and so have first-hand experience with the development of the game - including patches and expansions - and their effect upon modding. My tendency to release only European civilisations also fills a niche that most modders are often uninterested in filling themselves. I also have a very political-centric Academic career, which drives much of my mod-making, which is probably not the healthiest way to design mods, but certainly insightful.

The new ModCast regular panel is now tentatively set
Pouakai has had 'Real Life Interference' cause him have to withdraw from being a regular panelist. That, combined with JFD's application above, has resulted in his now taking the spot as the fourth new panelist on ModCast.

Welcome, JFD.

Don't worry, he'll still probably be as equally difficult to understand <3

I'm not sure what happened to my place on the panel - which I thought was agreed late last year when DanQ originally asked. I have been ill and wouldn't have been able to have done the first one, but was really looking forward to doing the others.

Dan, I've sent you a pm regarding this. Whilst I don't want to put a spanner in the works and wish the four who've been chosen all the best, I am disappointed to have been left out.

Well you did say mid-June when were were looking at the possibility of recording this next week.

As I explained to Rob in a PM follow-up yesterday, it stemmed from a misunderstanding of mine based on what he had told me about his availability: in our most recent communications, it had come across about his being available for one or more guest co-host appearances but could not commit to becoming a regular co-host.

As a result, "Rob (R8XFT)" is to become a fifth regular co-host as the recording of Episode 51. (The next episode is to be recorded is #50.)
