He is/was vice president for Jackson. When Jackson retires he will endorse Van Buren.
Candidates will sometimes not appear since this is alternate history; as you probably know, Jackson was historically president in 1928 and then won two terms, then retired. However, in this game, he has only had one term so far.

Don't you guys remember my America DOC story? I warned you about prolonged Jackson presidencies...
Although (I know I don't usually post my opinions about presidencies, but I think Jackson pretty much won at this point) I wouldn't vote for Jackson (I'd vote Webster), I'd disagree that Jackson would ever become a "permanent resident" of the White House. After all, he did only run twice. My complaints with him, that really have no effect on the game, are mostly just racism, anti-education sentiment, anti-banking, the Spoils system, and partisanship. I must say, he has the best presidential portrait though. It almost has a Rembrandt/Csontvary Kosztka Tivadar quality to it.

With that, I think it's time to wrap up the election. We got a voter turn-up of about 12 people which is pretty good. The most we ever got was 15. I'd be happy if we beat that. I think we will when the Civil War gets here; that'll be interesting. For those of you wondering, I end elections when all the usual voters cast in their vote. I do pay attention to what time you vote, and wait until your usual voting time. I never wait more than 24 hours unless it's a HUGE election (Like, the Civil War) or I'm off saving the world and can't be at the computer.

PS. I have recieved some input that my storytelling is very straightfoward without any "background" information, like things going on between presidential decisions or popular music playing. I'll incorporate some, but I want to focus on the elections and the presidents, as that is the focus of this IAAR.
My next AAR post will be more detailed and interesting, I promise. You can believe in me, just look at my profile picture. Look at it. Feel inspired. Can't you just taste the arrogance of his slight grimace? It's like the opposite of the Mona Lisa... It'll be up tomorrow morning (Pacific Time).

Hahaha, guilty as charged (except the immortal part). I wrote that story at the height of my "gee I don't like Andrew Jackson very much" phase. I profess that I still have a personal dislike of his presidency, and I'd add his Indian policy to your own list.
Regarding the game! Another Jackson term should make for some interesting times.

1836-1840 - Jackson's Sunset
As the war proceeded, America's superior naval tactics combined with the large navy produced under the Adams administration gave the United States naval superiority.
Then, Andrew Jackson got horrific news. The British had developed mass produced automatic rifles that dwarfed the military capability of the Americans.
This, combined with a "gag rule" put into the House of Representatives banning the discussion of anti-slavery, made Jackson's approval rating plummet in his last term.
This would lead to Andrew Jackson's immediate loss of interest in Canada.Soldiers would pour out of Canada, but superior American guerrilla tactics led to the defeat of one infantry division by a well trained minutemen division.
In 1838, Jackson procured another great trading relation with Turkey; the United States' relation with Turkey under Jackson had become worrisome to neighboring countries that felt the wrath of the Ottomans, and the Whigs would use this as evidence of Jackson's aims for authoritarianism.
Jackson's diplomacy had proved to be very effective in his second term, with the United States negotiating an end to the monarchy in Russia and a trade embargo against the Spanish. Trade would open up as a result of this, with Russians smoking on big Virginia cigars.
Meanwhile, American allies had made considerable gains. Venezuala was soon captured by a combination of Colombian and French troops outnumbering the British infantry. American navy was commended for its bombarding of the city as well.
During this time, the Trail of Tears began which resulted in the death of 4000 Cherokee Indians being removed from their home. This is result of Jackson's policy towards Natives.
The war in Cuba extended much farther than anyone expected, with a galleon bringing 3 extra riflemen to defend Havana. After four years of war and blockade, Cuba was captured with only the loss of one cannon division on the American side, and 7 riflemen lost on the Spanish side. The experience in this war would lead to a military academy being founded in Chicago from the Cuban War veterans.

His last term was seen as a failure, with only Cuba being assaulted and the Canadian and South African forces overwhelming US invasion.
