1872-1876: The Finland Conflict

The third term of Lincoln's presidency showed the rebound of the American economy, and victory over Finland. However, both the conflict with Russia and America's economy still had a way to go.

After massing troops outside Helsinki for a couple years, in early 1875 Lincoln ordered the Attack on Helsinki; the most violent battle in world history. Over a dozen Russian riflemen divisions died, with very little casualties on the American side. Lincoln ordered Finland to be put under military law for the remainder of his term.

Lincoln retired from office, stating he did not wish to run for a fourth term. Returning to Illinois, he tended to his family and lived a peaceful life.

Following Lincoln leaving office, most political parties had a huge vacuum of candidates. Ulysses S. Grant, who most expected to run after Lincoln, instead decided to take a two-year long trip to Europe and Asia. The Liberal Republicans disbanded. The People's Party, or the Populist Party, fell into inactivity with Woodhull focusing on civil rights in a local level.

James G. Blaine. Anyone who enforces separation of Church and State (otherwise, Atheists like me are discriminated) gets my vote.

A small rules suggestion, do you think that we could have primary elections before we have the presidential elections? Currently, the party with more candidates seems to have an unfair advantage.

People have an opportunity to change their vote at any time, and the voters know that party votes are accumulative, so I'd rather not change it. Also if you look at previous elections, that isn't the case.

Benjamin Bristow

also, when will we see some commies running for election (as it seems as if it's around the time that would happen)?
