she's done a good job so far and she's giving the right to vote to women ! She's experienced by now in handling complex situations in economy and foreign relations without getting stuck in a quagmire like the Finland war. Dare I say, she's perhaps the best president in the US after Lincoln !
I have an idea. Why don't we have something like a Congressional debate ? One commentor would represent one of the candidates and speak on his/her behalf to explain why everyone should vote for them. That could influence players and make the game more dynamic.
World-built. During this time, Italy really began trying out imperialism, and the fact that Ethiopia happened to collapse almost the exact same year was just too convenient for me to miss. However, France at this time also colonized Vietnam, but I did not allow this as Thailand is somewhat stable.
Midway through Lockwood's third-term, the passing of women's suffrage became a hot topic in America. Movements went through cities and down states, bringing out fanatics from both sides. Early in her third term, over 5,000 suffragists rallied outside Washington D.C. in support of Lockwood's attempts to push through the amendment. As the rally went on, many anti-suffragists attacked the women, leaving 100 injured before police broke up the attacks. Lockwood gave an immediate condemnation on the attack. By 1894, over 30,000 women were rallying in New York City.
Susan B. Anthony, a leading figure in women's right to vote alongside former president Gerrit Smith, were chief activists in supporting Lockwood's passage of the amendment of women's suffrage. Smith, during his presidency, could be said to have made Lockwood's presidency possible. During Lockwood's administration, Smith's image became much more favorable. A looked over, but recently-made-popular quote from the 12th president said:
"Neither here, nor in any other part of the world, is the right of suffrage allowed to extend beyond one of the sexes. This universal exclusion of woman... argues, conclusively, that, not as yet, is there one nation so far emerged from barbarism, and so far practically Christian, as to permit woman to rise up to the one level of the human family."
"...sensible and responsible women do not want to vote. The relative positions to be assumed by men and women in the working out of our civilization were assigned long ago by a higher intelligence."
Opposition, such as Cleveland, also found support against many elite women in society, who found their behind-the-scene dealings were far more beneficial than if all women could vote.
By January 10th, 1895, pro-suffragists became the majority in all but the southeastern states. Lockwood, through many negotiations with top politicians, agreed not to run for a fourth term as her popularity among women would guarantee her presidency for as long as she ran...
In January 12, 1893, a suffrage bill was brought before the House of Representatives but was defeated by a vote of 204 to 174. Another bill was brought before the House on October 10, 1893. On the evening before, President Lockwood made a strong and widely published appeal to the House to pass the bill. It was passed by two-thirds of the House, with only one vote to spare. The vote was then carried into the Senate. Again President Lockwood made an appeal, but on January 30, 1894, the amendment fell two votes short of the two-thirds necessary for passage, 53-31. On February 10, 1894, it was again voted upon, and then it was lost by only one vote, 54-30.
There was special anxiety as Lockwood's third term was closing, as she agreed not to run again and the successor could sabotage all the suffragists' progress. In 1895, nearing the end of her third term, it was passed 304 to 89.
woah this is exciting ! I hope you weave a really awesome story out of this ballot full of twists and turns and one decisive vote at the end . Like n the Lincoln movie ! ( No not the vampire one )
1892-1896: Soviet Collapse and the Congress of Edinburgh
Upon assuming office, Lockwood had the honor of unveiling the opening of the Cristo Redentor in California. Built by an up-and-coming religious and political movement, the wonder signified a beginning of new, mobile politics which could change the course of a nation without bloodshed and better represent the people.
Spoiler:
In July, Lockwood had the honor of having a newly developing part of Australia named after her. The new city promised oil, iron, and whale tourism.

In 1894, predicted by diplomats who forged the defensive-pact with Mali several years ago, Mali came to the United States wishing further ties with America. Within a couple months, Mali was annexed as a territory. Lockwood also began supplying aid to Mali, as well as other American territories, in order to bolster American culture (music, sports) and the fishing industry (which corporations had little interest in). By July of the next year, Korea followed in fashion.

As promised, a lowering of the science rate gave the state a surplus, which was funneled into a department focused on maintaining democracy and free trade. With a record amount of gold being sent, France was convinced to revert from Communism back to Democracy! Sweden soon followed after being given American aircrafts. Iran's monarchy soon collapsed after America gave military training in its rural provinces.

Unfortunately, the drive for Mexico to become more democratic resulted in a fierce division between top Mexican politicians. With several scandals breaking out, riots in the streets developed. Soon, gangs and mafias would develop to try and support their political view. Within weeks, Mexico completely collapsed with American investors fleeing the country. With the military away in the Middle East and Asia, America watched as Spain took claim to Tijuana.
Spoiler:
On July 6th, 1894, the Soviet Union collapsed. After a long embargo, tailored by Lockwood, Russia could no longer support its far-stretching empire. After Russian officials began talks of becoming a client state of the greater English communism, riots ripped Russia apart. German forces quickly moved in to try and annex Ukraine. Meanwhile in the States, people cheered and Lockwood's approval rating reached record heights as even anti-feminists had to congratulate the president on destroying one of the largest communist nations. The event was not well received in London.
Spoiler:
Lockwood pushed against communism even harder at this point, less afraid of the consequences. America began boycotting Spanish products, and Spain's economy lost valuable American tobacco, venison, spices and fruit.

By 1895, returning soldiers from Asia took an Indonesian island that declared independence from the Dutch East Indies a decade ago. This move was seen as a sign of an improving economy and stabilizing nation, but conservatives in congress railed against the president for this action.

Meanwhile in the Middle East, victories in the Caucasus Mountains and the Levant had brought the region under strong American control. As usual with Lockwood, she began handing over the Armenian region to Turkey, which agreed to secularism. This event escalated into a tragic loss for Lockwood, as Turkish, Brazilian, Dutch, and English leaders met in Edinburgh at the Congress of Edinburgh. Although the Turkish masses applauded America as their savior, Machiavellian and sly Turkish politicians saw America's weakness and refused military access and embassies as soon as US forces left the cities after reconstruction. During the congress, representatives of the city of Perth came before England and asked to join them on the basis of greed and anti-Lockwoodism. Lockwood spent an enormous amount of gold trying to bribe the congress and cover up news about this separatism, but the result was only a scandal as Lockwood openly broke freedom of speech and used the state's minimum funds for what opponents stated as a non-emergency. The scandal weakened Lockwood's influence over the region, and Western Australia, including the newly developed Port Lockwood (renamed Port Victoria), seceded from the United States and became an English, communist commonwealth. After America's defeat, Turkey found the opportunity to invade Saudi Arabia and Ukraine right under America's nose, while convincing France to return Istanbul at the price of a large bribe.

Following failures in Turkey and West Australian secession, the American economy and its stability began plummeting. Instability rose from -22 to -32 within months, with no end in sight. With the women's suffrage bill also being fiercely fought for, Lockwood began developing severe health-related issues, with future historians noting symptoms of insanity.
By 1896, following universal suffrage and a year of political chaos and media-driven attacks against Lockwood, projects to eliminate diseases such as Polio were underway in Georgia, California, and Montana.
Spoiler:
American forces during this time, with the aid of newly-developed bombers, began taking Mexico. Unlike Lockwood's normal attitude, she demanded that the region stay under strict military law to secure oil interests in the Gulf of Mexico.

By mid-1896, movies began taking off in Chicago to such a point that it became a world sensation! The Hollywood District became famous for producing the likes comedians, documentaries (producing wonderful films such as "The Fall of the Soviets"), and political propaganda. Chicago, which during the Perth Scandals rapidly shifted from Equalist to Republican, villanized Lockwood as a shady, untrustworthy and corrupt mobster. Although during this time Lockwood had historically brought down Japanese Fascism through diplomacy, Lockwood ended her term with record high unpopularity among the less-fervent of her rise to power.
Lockwood, leaving office not only out of agreements with politicians needed to secure women's suffrage, also left a political vacuum as parties vied to fill in the historic presidency that lasted 12 years. American forces began storming eastern Russia and granting the territory to Korea in order to secure military access to northern Asia, and American stability soared to -38 with the economy following it. Although, for most of her long presidency seen as the greatest American figure since Washington, the scandal and the panic caused from Turkish independence temporarily demonized her as a politician.

The upcoming race for presidency would be a dichotomy of fierce opposing ideologies on solving the economy and stabilizing the nation, and dealing with England.
This has been a great read whilst trying to revise, I hope to start a AAR myself I just have to get back into Civ 4, but I am wondering though what is the mod you are using?
He is using Dawn of Civilization, a wonderful modmod based off of the popular Rhye's and Fall of Civilization. It simulates the ebb and flow of actual history, but lets you blaze a path of your own.
Royal Tenenbaum in particular is (I believe) using a improved map modmodcomp of his own creation.

Democratic Party William Jennings Bryan, Age 36, Nebraska Senator. Outstanding orator. Believes in pacifism and popular democracy. Known as the "Great Commoner" due to his opposition to monopolies, corporations and elitists and support of farmers. Wants to lower science rate to stimulate economy, proposing adding silver to back the dollar in addition to gold, stating that the gold standard only helps the rich maintain their wealth. Rejects trade embargoes. Disagrees with the United States keeping territories for corporate greed, or military bases. Supported by the Populist and Silver Republican Parties, but his pro-silver stance caused a schism in his party where many "Gold Democrats" sided with McKinley. With a belief in America's "Global Mission" to spread democracy, he supports strengthening the military and signing defensive-pacts in order to secure allies from communist attacks, but wants to extend declarations of war to a popular vote. Supports using espionage to defeat communism. Travels around the nation giving speeches, and meeting with the common people and only sleeping a few hours a night; once giving 25 speeches in one day!
Spoiler:
Republican Party William McKinley, Age 53, Ohio Governor. Wants to maintain the science rate, stating that the best way to compete with communism is to be better educated than it. Rejects adding silver to the monetary system, stating it would hurt businesses and cause inflation. Condemns Bryan's views on weakening corporations and American territories, stating that they are needed for a better economy and American stability and influence. Sound supporter of trade embargoes. Stating that Spain and England are already undermining democracy in America's allies, wants to prepare for a quick and decisive war against them that would minimize casualties and would not only not drain the economy, but would boost it. Wants to maintain American territories, stating that the economy, which he promises to restore, will re-stabilize America without America having to further compensate. States the espionage will only weaken American reputation, and that military action combined with diplomacy will not only defend America for generations to come, but improve the economy and foreign relations. Brings people to his front-porch to discuss his views and address the concerns of the people; sends Republican orators (like Teddy Roosevelt) to tour the nation and portray Bryan as a religious, un-experienced fanatic.
Spoiler:
Campaign News: William McKinley, securing a strong turnout from New England and among factory workers and businessmen, wins the 1896 election to become the 17th US president with %78.5 of the vote! This comes as a crushing defeat to the Democratic Party, as although the party had secured many supporters during the Lockwood administration, they have failed to get a Democratic president into power since Lewis Cass!
None of them could entirely convince me of a strategy. Both want interesting things and other not so interesting ones. None could be above the other, so none got my vote.
