America: Write Your Own History

I will Abstain my vote.

None of them could entirely convince me of a strategy. Both want interesting things and other not so interesting ones. None could be above the other, so none got my vote.

I'm with Spirictum on this. This has to be the worst American election ever ! I think its high time we introduce some Socialists to spice up the political spectrum.

I wonder if he's going to have McKinley be assassinated like in RL.

1896-1899: The Spanish-American War

Following a landslide victory for the Republican Party after a 12 year disruption in the Republican leadership of America and the retirement of Belva Ann Lockwood, McKinley came to power backed by industrialists, corporations, the military, and those who wanted a strong economic plan.

McKinley's ultimate plan to have a clean victory over England and Spain began with these principles: Coastal cities will begin producing battleships, which would gain superiority over the much more numerous English destroyers; if a city is unhealthy, the workers cannot work to their maximum efficiency, therefore health should be focus before production; inflation happens from straying away from the gold standard, science rate will remain high and money will not be spent on economic stimulus; and finally, all other cities should focus on infantry, marines, tanks, and bombers.

In order to begin dividing up the world into the Allies (pro-American) and "Axis of Evil" (which McKinley coined, referring to communist sympathizers and monarchists), McKinley gave technological aid to Brazil if they ended their war with Colombia; hoping this would allow them to focus on preparing for war with Spain or England instead of democratic allies.

In 1898, the highly funded military began developing refrigeration, which reduced the time the navy needed to stop for food supplies.

McKinley's failure in diplomacy began developing when Spain signed a defensive pact with France, complicating his plan to declare war on Spain. After controversy and many attacks from the Democratic and Equal Rights Parties (which began transforming into the Liberal Democratic Party during this time), McKinley still planned on declaring war.

Although strongly opposed to espionage, McKinley reorganized the espionage network and focused existing networks on allowing sight into English and Spanish territories. Lockwood-Era spies were stationed in Washington, ordered not to go vigilante.

In Venezuela, American marines stormed the beaches while bombers and fighters chipped away at Spanish defenses. On the Peruvian and Ecuadorian coasts, defenses proved too strong for an amphibious attack and American troops made trenches to surround the cities until the city was weak enough to be taken.

By 1899, McKinley's failure in diplomacy strained Colombia's government to declare war against Argentina, an act that divided Colombia -- Bolivia declared its independence, destroying 4 divisions of aircrafts, and Colombia and Venezuela quickly fell under Spanish control, where another 4 divisions of aircrafts was lost. This resulted in a total loss of 8 aircraft divisions and the attacks on Caracas, Venezuela were wasted. McKinley's quick war promise was nullified, the stability and economy of the nation was plummeting, and McKinley's opposition began drafting impeachment declarations.

Returning to the war with Spain, McKinley conservatively began making gains. Territories were gifted to Bolivia (soon to become Peru) in a way to alleviate the stability problems; McKinley had hoped that Bolivia would stay a democratic nation and a friend to the United States.

1900: The Beginning of the Edwardian War
In 1900, McKinley's forces had overcome Spain and kicked them out of Latin America. Spain's surrender agreement included becoming a democratic nation, and adhering to the Monroe Doctrine. Theodore Roosevelt had become a national figure for fighting in the war, as well. Haiti was taken as well, but France and Argentina had not backed out of the war yet, as they met with communist officials...

Below are Argentine, French, English, and Dutch officials meeting in Brest. McKinley had knowledge of this meeting from spy networks in France, but did not think it would amount to anything substantial.

Nearing the end of the 1900 presidential race and the end of McKinley's 1st term, the Edwardian War broke out! Britain, agreeing to aid Argentina and France, declared war on the United States and brought in their client state, Netherlands. A fleet off of northern Newfoundland met with an English navy, and while it defeated several ships, it was eventually outnumbered and unprepared. The Eastern Coast was ravaged by a large wave of English ships, surrounding the several American navies and even sinking the USS Lincoln! McKinley retaliated by sinking English civilian transports, which not only angered the Equalists at home, but began tarnishing America's reputation.

Nevertheless, McKinley's focus on corporations led to a drastic cut in exports of fish to stimulate the seafood industries, in which he replaced exports with music, sports, and films. His constant focus on oil, as well, lead to strong support of the military industry in Washington as well as extended the American Golden Age.

Ending his first term, he signed trade agreements with the new Indonesian nation, began taking Caribbean holdings, and assured the nation that the United States will make it through this war. I thought you would like these revisions.

Now that was an unexpectable turn of events, and the impeachment idea sounds nice!

BTW, so long ago we talked about the inflation random event and it still didn't happen, maybe it isn't active in your game, and I don't remember if only one civ may do it (meaning if anyone else already did you can't do it anymore). Or chances are playing with us..... again :p

Election of 1900: Edwardian War

As McKinley's reputation plummeted during the outbreak of the Edwardian War and the failures during the Spanish-American War, the Democratic Party found its first chance in decades to win the election. As Bryan was found unpopular with a large faction of the Democratic Party, the party split into 3 separate parties: the Popular Democratic Party, those who followed Bryan's conservative but ethical stance on domestic and economic policy, and also absorbed the Populist, Silver, and anti-imperialist parties; the Liberal Democratic Party, nominating Lockwood with her return to politics and fusing with the Equal Rights Party, while also nominating Admiral of the Navy Dewey to attract those who are disappointed by Lockwood's age and inexperience with war; and finally the Social Democratic Party, which formed out of the industrial strikes and include labor unions and Marxists.

Republican Party
William McKinley, Age 57, Current President. Vows to win the Edwardian War and collapse the British Empire and return them to democracy, stabilize the nation through strengthening the economy, and continue scientific research. Urges voters to support his renomination, as radical changes will only further destabilize the nation and weaken the war front. As his former vice-president has died, Theodore Roosevelt, the New York political reformer and Spanish-American War hero, has become his running mate.
Spoiler :

Popular Democratic Party
William Jennings Bryan, Age 40, Nebraska Representative. Known as the "Great Commoner" for his support of farmers vs large corporations. Famed orator. Backed by those who want to add silver to the gold standard, and by anti-imperialists. Wants to grant independence to territories that only benefit corporations, such as Tasmania. Wants to fight for access to the Malinese territories, regaining Kenya for Ethiopia, and retaking Western Australia as a priority, but wants to end the war as soon as possible. Wants to lower science rate slightly to stimulate economy. Travels the nation giving several speeches per day and conversing with the masses. States that granting independence to territories such as Iraq and Mexico will reinvigorate the economy and stability of the nation while improving international relations of the United States needed for the United Nations.
Spoiler :

Liberal Democratic Party
Belva Ann Lockwood, Age 70, Former President and current orator, humanitarian, and lawyer. Returning to politics after the Equal Rights Party agreed to not being involved in the 1896 election, reformed the party and created the Liberal Democratic Party, fighting for dominance over the other Democratic wings. Supports the war with Britain, but states that McKinley's preparation and execution of the Spanish-American War was a devastation to stability, the economy, democracy, and the military. Wants to fight a total war with Britain, choosing to end the century-old contest here and now. Promises to keep soldiers safe by using expert naval and air tactics, while focusing on diplomacy and espionage to undermine England's resources and supporters. Wants to begin declaring independence for several American possessions, such as Mexico, Colombia, Tasmania, and the Middle East.
Spoiler :

George Dewey, Age 63, Admiral of the Navy. Regarded as a national hero for his decisive naval victories in the Pacific and the Caribbean during the Spanish-American War, and a Civil War veteran. States that, during this historic war, he is the only candidate that can bring the nation to a militaristic victory. Wants to slightly lower science rate to increase federal funds for economic stimulus needed to improve the economy and keep American territories producing enough for the war. Vows to listen to congress in order to improve order in the seemingly chaotic White House, and keep state affairs running smoothly. Controversy arose when, during the race, he stated that the next war will probably be with Germany, and also mentioned he had never voted before.
Spoiler :

Social Democratic Party
Eugene V. Debs, Age 45, Indiana Senate politician and union leader. Leading activist in the Cristo Redentor Movement, which aimed for large-scale political reform without instability. With a history of constantly clashing with corporations and executive powers over unfair wages and working conditions, wishes to lead a large reformation and move America towards a socialist model; promising equal treatment, economic recovery and stability, and no corporate manipulation. Renown for his excellent speeches. Undecided on his stance on imperialism and the war, but would definitely grant independence to territories that only benefited corporations, such as Tasmania.
Spoiler :

Campaign News:
Lockwood wins her fourth term and becomes the 18th president! George Dewey, Admiral of the Navy, is elected vice-president by the Liberal Democratic Convention to attract pro-imperialist, pro-war voters.
This is the first election in American history where the winning candidate has failed to gain more than half of the national vote, however! Lockwood wins only 47% of the popular vote.
