July 1917-July 1918: Rise of Germany and the End of the American Golden Age
The months proceeding Wilson's shooting, Europe's situation developed outside of the administration's expectations. France had surrendered to Germany, and gained substantial amounts of French lands. This ruined American plans for an offensive from France, and American troops were ordered to move through Italy and station in Austria.
Furthermore, Germany had signed an alliance with Thailand, which proved a strategic and brilliant move on Germany's part as Thailand was allied with Iran, who was in turn allied with Portugal, who was in turn allied with Mali. Declaration of war would have meant declaring war on half the world, and Germany knew that they had temporarily disabled American chances of entering the war.
Germany by now stretches from France, through the Netherlands, into deep Russia where it recently annexed Ukraine.
America had responded by beginning an embargo against German, Polish, and French trade.
In the following weeks, Wilson and his cabinets met nearly all the time to discuss Germany's alliance network. Eventually, when meeting in Iran, a deal was settled from which Iran agreed to end their alliance with Thailand in exchange for the US negotiation a peace between Austria and Iran. This was seen as a huge victory, not only for imperialists, but for peace activists.
During this time, economists had noticed a stagnation in the growth of the American economy. The Golden Age, which began during the Blaine administration following the military and scientific growth in the Finland Conflict, had ended. The wealth that was accumulated that allowed unprecedented amounts of patronage and welfare had dwindled, and several art galleries and theaters began closing as they were replaced by military barracks and factories.
Wilson's military department began replacing infantry with mobile SAM divisions, which proved more effective in battle, more mobile, and had the opportunity to intercept enemy air attacks.
French connections with Argentina were discussed, and Argentina agreed to stay neutral should a war break out.
Mali had begone rising as a world power after victories against French and German colonies in the following months. American troops ready to take Cameroon were surprised when Malinese flags were stationed on the surrounding military bases, as Mali had captured Cameroon during the previous weeks.
Finally, Japan had been developing worries among Wilson's administration with their rising technological and military power. After signing defensive pacts with Russia and Mali, Wilson had quickly regretted his alliance with Korea, as it appeared American alliance with Korea could lead to a war with three rising world powers.

In Wilson's defense, how has any of his actions caused this? Germany would have grown even more without Wilson, and he still has kept us out of war. The only mistake I see is allowing Japan to rise and possibly begin an attack against Korea.

If we did elect Reimer, we would most likely still go to war with Germany eventually, only Germany would be stronger and larger because we hadn't interfered as early as we would have with Wilson.

I think in response to the fraud and treason committed by the evil communists, I, Senator T. Renzo Trevisan, Moderate Socialist from New Jersey, support arrest of leading communists for conspiring to first rig the election, then kill the president. The more moderate socialists (myself included) should not be arrested, but the radical branch should all be tried for treason.

While politically, I stand with you guys, though I am more moderate, you are betraying the democratic principles on which our country was founded on! I am part of the more moderate branch and I voted for Wilson because while economically I am a social liberal, I value upholding the constitution! All of you should be arrested for treason!
Except here most Americans sympathize with such terror tactics, and everybody wanted Wilson dead.
Not everybody wanted Wilson dead, only a relatively small minority of crazy communists who are willing to engage in voter fraud and violently violate the democratic principles of the constitution to get their way. To get what you wanted, you are making America into the very thing you despise most, a military dictatorship, not a democracy!

I do believe this goes against my constitutional rights good sir. You are making America look worse in the eyes of other nations. America is a land where people are allowed to believe what they want. If Adolf Hitler runs for president and people join his Nazi party then good for them. Us communists will fight this in the courthouses and the media. You underestimate our strength. Exactly! Only a small few wanted him dead and that means only those who were involved should be arrested. We did nothing wrong. You are defying the constitution because we are all equal no matter our beliefs. What kind of nation is this where you can't speak our mind? You talk of how we oppose the democratic principles yet you are doing an extremely autocratic/fascist thing by telling us we are bad because of what we believe. I am a communist and there is nothing wrong with that. Also, no one said anything about getting rid of the democratic principles, we just strive to change the economy as it could be much better.
